#WOTR21 – #Review – The Only Sorceress by Anya Breton

Self-proclaimed sorceress Kora Walsh knows exactly how to use her shiny new MBA. She’ll open a new age shop in a colony of the country’s most powerful witches. But the town rife with bigots doesn’t want her or her sleek shop tainting their perfect community.

Kora would leave if she had any choice in the matter. She’s trained from childhood for her true task—infiltrating coven leadership as her mother’s mole. Failure to do her familial duty is not an option, not when her childhood nemesis is assured her failed soul for an eternity of torture.

And thanks to the colony’s loudest supporter, the beautiful Desmond Marino, failure is a very real danger.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I absolutely love this story! Kora is the daughter of the goddess of magic, but she is half human. What does that mean for her? Yep, she must live topside with all of us humans….and shifters, witches, and vampires, oh my! Since she is half human and has to live with all of us mere humans, she has to work and make a living. On top of that, she has to do “odd” jobs for her mother that include being dropped in strange places to stop rogue witches from doing crazy things. Her most recent mission is to infiltrate the leaders of Wipuk, a secret society of supernaturals. She is up against the odds with all sorts of different creatures all while trying to open her very own “Rarities” store. Kora is an awesome and quirky character who gets put in the middle of some really strange and bizarre situations. But how she handles these is epic. She is sarcastic and witty. It is these characteristics that keep everyone around her on their toes all while keeping you engrossed in the story. Kora’s story is exciting and engaging. I cannot wait to continue this journey.

#WOTR21 – #Review – #NewRelease – Amara Acquired by Michel Prince

Amara Acquired

In 2002 four planes disappeared over Western Wisconsin, thirteen years later one has requested landing privileges.

Jocelyn ‘Joss’ Randall is on a time crunch. A business trip to Detroit already had her plane bumped an hour and for some reason the plane is taxiing on the runway forever when they finally land in Minneapolis. Her seatmate is annoying her with fears of missing her connection and all Joss wants is to see her baby Molly and get to a birthday party for her niece. The last thing she expected was a week in Detroit would feel like a decade.

Carlton Randall is finally to the point of moving on with his life. His teenage daughter Molly is yearning for independence and his long distance girlfriend Carrie has been transferred to Minneapolis. Things are falling into place for his grief to end. The
loss of his wife, with no remains to claim left him questioning for years. Accepting the mysterious loss only to have the woman appear. Young, unchanged and with no understanding how her one-year-old is now fourteen.

Distance between Joss and Carlton isn’t a new thing, but when he refuses to touch her, looks a decade older and refers to her as an it, not a his wife, the divide is growing. Strange language, lost thoughts and dreams in the form of memories haunting Joss does not help the situation.

Is the man haunting her dreams truth or fiction? Has she learned a language never heard before by anyone on Earth? And if this dream world is real, is that where more than her heart lies?

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I received this ARC from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review.

What a whirlwind! With Fate at its finest and glitches in the system, this is an insane story that is gripping with so many twists. You will remain completely engaged from beginning to end. One night Joss’ plane disappears without a trace along with 3 others. 13 years later she reappears completely unchanged, and the details of the other planes keep changing. She finds that she is haunted by a strange man from a strange place, and she keeps speaking crazy weird words in a language that no one knows. She feels like she is going crazy. Her husband, Carl, had finally come to terms with Joss being gone, he is raising a teenage daughter that reminds him everyday of Joss, and has a new love in his life that he truly feels at peace with. Now Joss and Carl are all over the place with their emotions. They both know that they were drifting apart before Joss left but what now? How do you move on from this? Move forward? Their story completely pulls at your heartstrings. They both truly found themselves when they were apart, and the hard part is what do they do now? What about their teenage daughter, Molly? There are a million questions, incredible emotions, a great cast of diverse characters, with crazy incredible settings. Oh, I didn’t mention the ending….one helluva ending! Wowza! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

#Review – Hunting Jessica: Into the Shadows by Elizabeth St. John

Hunting Jessica: Into the Shadows (The Hunting Series #1)

Book 1- The Hunting Series

Hunting Jessica is a heart-pounding, suspenseful, face-fanning paranormal romance that will lead you into a world you never thought could exist. Follow Jessica into the shadows and discover an ancient secret which could alter even your reality.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

As a fan of the paranormal, this definitely was intriguing. This is a fantastical tale of hellhounds and vampires all intricately woven into many twisting paths full of deceit and lies. Don’t worry, there is a love story too. It took me a little bit to get into the story. However, I think this happens a lot with the first book in a series because we are just getting to know characters and the world building is needed. Jessica is a vampire hunter and works for Jay. She wasn’t always a believer of the paranormal but was attacked once and Jay helped her. When she lets one of the men, Gage, who is also a love interest, move into her house, she gets a lot more than she bargained for. Once the secrets are let out she is brought into their world of hellhounds. There is a delicate balance within the hellhound packs and this is one very big part of the web of crazy that this story is. Rayce is another, hawt as a hellhound, man that is the new and current love interest. He is amazing but these two have a lot to overcome if they are going to make it. We find out so much about the insanity within the hellhound packs and the stories go sideways so quick. I never want to give spoilers, and I am trying my hardest not to, but there is so much going on in this book that it is easier for me to just tell you to read it. Naturally, there is always a character that we have beef with, right? I mean, there were times when I wanted to shake Jessica for just being that naive when she is a super strong woman. And there were times that I wanted to shake Jay and Rayce for not doing something to stop the madness that was going on. Overall, I think this was a good read and if you are looking for a new twist on the paranormal, you should give the hellhounds a try.

#WOTR – #Review – The Amalgam (The Aberration Book 1) by Michel Prince

Genetics, radioactive spiders, mutation following tainted energy drinks. No one knows what triggered teens to suddenly get powers. Abilities emerge, first sought, then destroying lives with only one link between those effected. Their birthdays all end in double zeroes.

Riley Weston wished he could be an awkward kid in high school, but life had other plans. The Aberration Laws made all around him suspect, until the wheel of fate turned to point her arrow at him.

Even if your powers have yet to emerge. The government is set on owning all those in possession of abilities.

For Riley, a camp, ran by Aberrations, hides, trains, and keeps them safe. But the world wants their powers. To meld them into a force no army could defeat. Riley, and those like him, now walk the world scared, angry and afraid. Which is not the combo you want with unlimited powers.

Can Riley learn to control his gift before outside forces find him? Or before inside sources give away more than just him, but the whole camp.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Did you read the blurb?! Mutations, aberrations, genetics….YA Sci Fi? Sign me up! This is something straight out of a superhero comic! I live for this stuff! This story is an intricately woven fantastical tale that never leaves you with a dull moment. Right from the jump, Riley’s house is being searched and he is in a sort of panic room or safe room. He has been forced to live in secrecy for fear of being taken to a type of detainment camp to be experimented on. The time has come for him to secretly be taken to a secret camp with others like him. His mom and dad basically have to smuggle him out and make a secret trade for this to happen. All hell breaks loose and Riley is swept away to the camp. Only, it’s not exactly a camp. This is a massive center with tons of others that are “special” like him and others that are “normal” with no powers. He quickly finds out that not everyone can be trusted. And as his power starts coming to fruition. Only he finds that he doesn’t have just one power like the other aberrations,  but multiple. Now we have a teenage boy that has been thrust into a crazy situation that he is trying to navigate, he needs to learn his powers, all while being scared and confused. This is a dangerous combo. But wait, there’s more! He finds an incredible group of friends that he can absolutely rely on but when you are told that you may be “the one”…How are you supposed to react?! And don’t forget, we still don’t know who to trust.

There is an incredible explanation as to why these kids have powers. The way that these teens figure it out and explain it, brings a historical type of element to this book. Gods and goddesses from way back when could all be part of who they are today. And when stuff really starts to go haywire, the truth starts coming out with even more twists coming your way.

Seriously, if you need something different to shake things up, this is the book that will do it for you. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the sequel. Bravo, Ms. Prince! Loved it!

#WOTR21 – #Review – The Amulets by J. Lawson

The Amulets (The Amulets Trilogy #1)

A centuries-old war, a lineage of magic thought long dead, and a girl desperately struggling to find her place.

Jordan has a secret; one that’s kept her intentionally antisocial. So, when new girl Georgia moves to town and begins working at the same bookstore, she is naturally apprehensive. Yet, discovering their unanticipated connection makes her question everything she’s ever believed.

When they discover unusual happenings linked to the old mill, they along with Sawyer, handsome grandson of the town crank, find themselves forced to investigate a potentially evil source of conflict threatening the safety of their town. Will Jordan and Georgia’s common gifts, along with Sawyer’s courage and charm, be enough to get the answers they need to save the town? Or does letting yourself care just mean you have more to lose?

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Who says we need less dreamers and more concrete intellects? Jordan’s boss! Psh! First, I love that our main character works in a bookstore and promotes fantasy books, just saying. The Amulets, for me, was a pure and wholesome young adult book. It was very sweet. Jordan is a shape-shifter and has kept this secret for many years. She is afraid if she gets close to someone that she will ultimately lose them because they won’t understand. This is something she struggles with throughout the story. Their small town is truly a small town. Everyone knows everyone and you only fall into a few different categories with school and work. And, if you make it out, you don’t come back. Until Georgia shows up one day to work at the same store as Jordan. These two are definitely kindred spirits and you can feel the bond forming right from jump. Their friendship is something most of us wish we had. Then we have Sawyer, a super cute guy who brings them coffee! Score! Jordan and Georgia are both shapeshifters and Sawyer is not. The secrets now become very delicate. On top of this, the town has lost their dang mind! This causes the trio to do some investigative work which ends up getting really hairy in the end. And when I say hairy, I truly mean hairy. Reality can be just as crazy as the stuff people imagine.

The story started a bit slow for me but I think with this being the first in the trilogy the world building was needed. It is super sweet too. No swearing and no crazy make-out sessions. There are a couple kisses shared between Jordan and Sawyer, and they were perfect. I definitely think that this is geared toward a younger YA group. Once the story got moving, it was hard to put down. And now that I reached the end I need to know what happens next.

#Review – Rebellious and Reckless by Michelle A. Valentine

Rebellious and Reckless (Campus Hotshots #1)

He’s Rebellious in the ring and Reckless in Love.

Sky Cold knows exactly what she wants, and it’s Luke Finnegan, the college campus star quarterback. The only problem is she’s not even a blip on his radar. In order to get noticed by her crush, she’s willing to exchange the extra bedroom in her apartment to Luke’s tattooed, older brother to find a way into his social circle.

Baker Finnegan is determined to get out of his father’s shadow and do things his way. When he falls on hard times, and the sexy, slightly nerdy co-ed Sky offers him a place to live in exchange for a fake friendship, he can’t pass up the opportunity. But when Baker quickly realizes the only match he wants to make for Sky is one with himself, he has to convince her to look past his reckless ways.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Sweet torture and a glutton for punishment. Life isn’t perfect and we don’t always get what we think we need. Think, being the key word. Things never seem to go the way you want but in the end it just works. The story is a bit on the cliche’ side because ultimately we have a nerdy type of girl who essentially has a makeover and then gets the attention of the hot guy. Only in this story, she has the attention of two brothers…both are hot in their own ways. Sky gets Baker to agree to help her get a date with his brother, Luke. Then the fun starts! Baker moves in with Sky as part of the deal. But then they start to get close. Both of them have secrets…and both involve part of their family. These secrets are most definitely not cliche’. You seriously need to read this.  As things continue to unfold they can’t deny the pull that they have between each other but Sky still can’t decide if she wants Luke or if she is falling in love with Baker.

“Do you have your Finnegans confused?” This is one of my favorite lines because this sums Sky up completely!

We have the hot jock, the rebel fighter, and the sweet librarian. All of the makings of a romantic comedy that will keep you turning the pages. Even though some of the story is cliche’, it is still a fun read with its own twist. And that makes it a must read!

Tessa is forced to make a choice on which side has humanity’s best interests in mind. She begins to realize the greedy and destructive nature of humanity and the possibility that neither side is righteous, and both are corrupted by power.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

The story starts out with a bang and the action continues clear to the end of the book. Tessa lives in a post apoc world on a ravaged earth where everyone is just trying to survive. The basic humans try to do their part and lay low so as not to bring down the wrath of the Evos, the superhumans, who stopped taking orders from us lowly humans a long time ago. Tessa is pushed to the brink when an Evo attacks her school and her sister is missing. She and her best friends are put in the middle of a fight trying to save her sister and Tessa finds she may have some abilities of her own. She then gets to meet some other Evos who are trying to bring the bad Evos down so that everyone can live in harmony. She feels that she is being manipulated for her powers and this causes her to struggle with figuring out where she belongs in this crazy new world.

The story was written well with good world building and a great story line. There is also the political component that lurks in the midst of the story. Each side thinks they are right and Tessa has to figure out where she belongs or if she tries to run from them both. There were quite a few typos in the book and some areas were a little difficult to read because of this. Overall the story was great and definitely has me intrigued. A solid 4 stars.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

This is a fast read that has a little bit of everything! Josie was about to get married but her fiance died right before the wedding. She is mourning the death of her fiance’ when strange things start happening to her. Turns out her house is haunted and the medium she calls is the stripper who gave her a lap dance at her bachelorette party! Lets see, we have a stripper medium, a dead fiance’, a haunted house, and great friends…what else do you need for this story?!  It is a well developed story with great chemistry between all the characters. Even with a death in the story, it is a sweet and fun read. Reading this in one sitting was no problem at all. It definitely will keep your attention to the last page. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Or die trying…

When truth shines a light, beware of the shadows

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Oh, the suspense! This whole series has been crazy intense. I really enjoy how this story followed Lila and Cody into adulthood. In the last book they were the best of friends and I hoped that they would both continue together and be happy. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. The world is full of all types of evil. People in general are crazy and the Sinclair’s put the icing on the cake! Unfortunately the turmoil that the Sinclair’s started is still in full swing. Lila is an attorney now, and Cody is an IT guru. They are both continuing to work against The Order with characters from the past books from this series. People are getting murdered, lives are being threatened, and we have to go back to some of our old ways in order to stop them. The lies and deceit have not stopped and are intricately woven throughout this rollercoaster of a story. There are so many moving parts that you don’t know if you need to look left or right. And in the midst of the insanity, Lila and Cody are finding each other again (swoon). One of my favorite things about this series is that it is so unpredictable, and this one is no exception. An old enemy surfaces and will make your jaw drop. Rooting for our favorite heroes will keep you on your toes as you turn each suspenseful page and will keep your heart pounding all the way to the end. Order of Truth was the perfect finish to this series. Bravo!

#WOTR21 – #Review – Death Match: A Michele Shepard Story (The True Death Series #7) by R.K. Gleason

Death Match: A Michele Shepard Story (The True Death Series Book 7) by [R.K. Gleason]

Human beings aren’t the only creatures, in all the planes of existence, threatened by change and fear the unknown. Horace’s recent confrontations with ‘superior beings’ and the unusual circumstances of Niki’s pregnancy have placed a bounty on both their heads. That is, unless Jehna can broker a deal that ensures everyone involved has something to lose, without tearing the group of friends apart.

As the details of the blood-contract unfold, it becomes increasingly obvious it’s not ‘if’ the agreement will be broken, but when…

What will it mean for Horace and Niki when the lines are crossed, not to mention Shepard and their angelic allies? Will their enemies finally be able to swing the axe they’ve been grinding for centuries?

Which of the friends will fall under the heavy blade of revenge, and who will be left standing at the end of… Death Match?

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Death Match is all sorts of sideways, full of “it’ll be fun”, enthusiastic consumption, and being uppercase FUCKED! This is one of my favorite books in this series but not for the same reasons I enjoyed the others. In the other books, there was a lot of crazy gore and crude humor that made the books ‘off the wall’ enjoyable for me. This one though, a lot of people matured and really grew as characters and more of a familial unit. Our ragtag band of misfits is in a world of trouble. Lives will be taken, some spared, and all in the name of what exactly? Even a sliver of God can make a loophole. The guys all band together and keep to the contract that Jehna laid out while constantly being surprised when they learn of another important piece of the contract. As the story unfolds it will pull at your heartstrings but also keeps you on your toes with the action and wit that I am sure will never go away with this group. I am going to patiently wait for the next installment in this series. In the meantime, I am going to read Bob’s book, Savaged. On the other hand, I really miss Shepard and Horace. I can’t wait to see what trouble the gang can get into next!

I was born high in the Andes and raised by a band of wandering gypsies. At the ripe old age of 7, I struck out on my own, dabbling in the arts of alchemy and personal financing. Neither of the trades paid off. At 13 I became the personal juggler for Stephen King, but alas, that didn’t last long either. Since then, I’ve wandered aimlessly through life and this planet, stopping along the way to help people and smite the wicked.

A little while ago I decided to try my hand at writing. I published The True Death series independently in 2015 and currently have twelve books published to date.
