#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Melanie Jayne/M. Jayne

M. Jayne

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Melanie Jayne/M. Jayne– I’m a bitch, I’m a lover, I’m a child…well you get the picture. I spend my days creating women that I want to hang with, men that I want to do all kinds of dirty, filthy things to, and my nights tending to my dog and long-suffering hubby on our grain farm in Indiana. I write Paranormal Romance featuring the Novus Pack and Contemporary Seasoned Romance. I live to write and must write to live. I like my pizza with lots of cheese, my music loud, and my friends to have foul mouths and if you love trashy TV like the Real Housewives or Steve Wilkos— Let’s be friends. My life is never dull– I’m not for everybody but I am entertaining.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

Dog out/dog in, laundry started, candle lit, music on- each book has a playlist, Hint Watermelon water if it is a Novus book, Coffee, and Dove milk chocolate.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

The planning of the table, packing up the stuff, the excitement in the room as we are all setting up, the anticipation before the doors open and THE READERS!!!! Seeing old friends and Making new ones. We all the same in common- we love to read!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Anne Perry (yes, I will go to Scotland) and Patricia Briggs

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I try to write every day but Tuesday. If it isn’t flowing then I stop. I write 2.5-3 hours a day and usually in the morning, sometimes between 2-5 in the afternoon if my characters are talking to me. I edit in long stretches because the first round fixes are so difficult.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

At Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick Weekend in Indianapolis. Singling along to Pearl Jam’s song, Black. Everybody was on the dance floor with our arms around one another. She brought us all together and it was a magical night. There also might be a few other stories that I can’t put in writing but they involve Cowboy Cocksuckers( Google it– it’s a drink) and shenanigans.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have a book from my childhood, Christmas in a Small Village, that my mom would read to me every year, until I could read, and then I did it. I still get it out every year and read it.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Jennifer Daniels

Jennifer Daniels

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Jennifer Daniels. I’m from Upstate, NY and live in the Adirondack Mountains with my husband and son. I write fantasy/romance with a lot quirky moments. I love Harry Potter and could watch it every weekend if allowed to.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I usually sit in my rocker recliner when I’m writing. I need it to be pretty quiet and need only something to drink nothing specific.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting new readers and writer’s.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Katerina Martinez, Yasmine Galenorn, Linda Boulanger, Karpov Kinrade and many, many more.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

Nope, I’m not consistent at all. The mood has to strike me or I just zone out on the screen.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I had a fan bring their own books they purchased of mine to sign last year at WOTR. It was cool.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Opalla!! It’s my baby, my first born book…lol

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – C.E. Johnson

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m C.E. Johnson but you can call me Carrie! I’ve lived in the middle of cornfields and in the Windy City. I like both for different reasons so I settled somewhere in between the two. However, the older I get the more I miss the country. I spent a whole lot of money on a Master’s degree in Communications, only to discover my love for writing novels after I graduated. It’s an expensive piece of paper, but it’s mine and I’m proud of it. I’m a wife, mama, dog lover, coffee addict, and night writer.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

Sweet tea or coffee is a must. I write the best at my desk in my office. Sadly, its next to the playroom so I’ve gotten really good at writing while hearing “Bro! I just re-spawned! What are you doing? BROOOOO!” In case you don’t understand that, I live in a house full of gamers. It gets interesting.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting readers! It’s so surreal that readers want me to sign their books. When I meet the readers, it really fires me up to go write more!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Kristen Ashley! I love some Colorado Mountain Men!

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’m a sit and go girl. I used to try to sit down for a long period of time and get the words in. But now, I’ve found that I really enjoy writing for small spurts throughout the day. I can write for awhile, then take a break. (Ha! Did I just say break? I meant go do laundry, dishes, or scrub a toilet. Ah, motherhood!) And when I come back, new ideas have usually come to me.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My very first signing I had a reader who drove an hour and a half just to meet me. I was the entire reason she came to the signing. That is still pretty surreal to me.

#WOTR20 #NewRelease #Review #RH #AnitHero #KU – Vanity (A Villainously Romantic Retelling Book 5) by Mary Martel

Vanity (A Villainously Romantic Retelling Book 5)

The beautiful does well to hide the beast.
Nova Crimson was absolutely beautiful, and she knew it. Not only was she beautiful but she was smart, filthy rich, had a fabulous wardrobe, a great house, on paper she seemed to have it all going for her.
Well, what’s the problem with all of this, you want to know?
The interior didn’t match the exterior, or so the saying goes. Nova Crimson was a cold, ruthless bitch who got what she wanted when she wanted it and wasn’t afraid of the casualties who might get trampled in her wake.
There’d only ever been one person in her life who she’d allowed to see past the beautifully cold mask she hid behind, and that had been a boy named Olliver who’d been everything Nova had not. They’d become friends, of a sort, after Nova stood up to protect him.
Unfortunately, the very next day, Olliver and his useless drunk of a father disappeared without a trace. And Nova had been forced to go about her life as if a piece of her hadn’t gone missing right along with Olliver. The very best piece of her, the piece that held any time of compassion or love she might have ever had.
Now, all grown up and on her own in the world, Nova still can’t let the ghost of that boy go. The hunter in her wants to track him down and find him herself. But hunting men had only ever ended in one way with Nova and that was with their death. Something she made a great deal of money off of and was very, very good at.
One thing Nova had learned in life was that if you couldn’t do it yourself you needed the best of the best to get the job done for you.
That’s when River, Vega, and Talin walked into her life. That’s also when things took a drastic turn in Nova Crimson’s life because in order to embrace love one had to take off the beautiful mask that hid the beast and embrace the ugly on the inside.

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Oh snap friends.  This book is GOOOOOD!!  Nova is a typical female that Mary writes about.  She is feisty, fearless, and full of sass.  She is not waiting for a Prince Charming.  She pays him to “Help her out” *wink wink*.  Nova hires 3 sexy men to find her childhood friend who disappeared without a sound.

River, Talin, and Vega have no clue but when they are near Nova they loose their cool and just want to be with her.  There is something about her strength these men appreciate and approve of.  When they find her friend, we learn a lot about her and Olliver’s lives.

This book is a quick read but it’s sexy as hell.  There is so much angst plus impossible amounts of twists and turns.  I am going to say if you love her Dollhouse books, Nova and Duchess would be best friends!!!

Mary Martel was born in West Michigan and spent the majority of her life there. She currently resides in North Dakota with her husband, and her two beautiful daughters. She’s an avid reader, and when not writing she can be found with her nose stuck in a book.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight #5YearFamily – Jennifer Laslie

Jennifer Laslie

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Jennifer Laslie and I currently live in Layton, UT where I get to look at the mountains every single day!

Last December I made a huge leap by moving here from Louisville, KY. I’m happily married with two children and I’m sort of a crazy cat lady. We have five cats that rule our house and two dogs that try to stay out of their way.

I write both Young Adult and Paranormal Romance. When I’m not working or writing, you can find me at the bookstore with a coffee in hand or out hiking a trail in the Utah wilderness.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I’ve got to have something to drink, whether it’s water, a mixed rum drink, or coke and amaretto. My office has a big overstuffed chair and ottoman that I get settled in. I pull up Spotify for some light background noise and let my favorite songs play on shuffle. I try to remind my kids to leave me alone, but it doesn’t always work out that way. They’re 13 and 19 and you’d think they’d learn to listen to me by now, but nope!

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting both readers and authors. These events usually give me an opportunity to see author friends I generally only ever chat with online. I also get excited when I have readers come up to my table that know of me, and have read something of mine, but then they gush about how much they love it and it makes my day!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’d love to meet Jacqueline Carey. She is my all time favorite author! I do have a signed UK edition paperback of one of her books that I won online when she used to do giveaways on Facebook a long time ago. It is my most prized autographed book!

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I do not have to be at work until 9:30am MST. My alarm goes off at 6:30am every morning. I wake up, get ready for the day and get settled into my writing chair in my office with a coffee next to me. Because I work from home, I can utilize every minute up until 9:30 and then walk over to my desk to clock in for work. If I don’t have anything pressing in the evenings, I’ll eat dinner, watch a TV show with my husband, and if I’ve got the energy, I’ll try to write some more. If not, I’ll veg out and know that tomorrow I can tackle the word count.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Can I name two memories? Yes? Please? Okay!

The first is when I wrote my novel Mermaid Adrift for a boxed set, Sirens and Scales. The box set hit #89 on the USA Today Bestsellers List right smack dab in between Stephen King and Janet Evanovich.

My second is getting accepted as a client for Rebecca Frank. She is a phenomenal cover artist and she is the one who has designed all of the covers for my Unfortunate Spells series.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Refer back up to my favorite author. My most prized possession is an autographed copy of one of Jacqueline Carey’s books. I have all of her Kushiel’s Legacy series, but they are all the hardback editions from the US. The one I have signed from her is Naamah’s Kiss and it’s the UK cover in paperback.

#WOTR20 #NewRelease #AntiHero #RH #Review #KU – Identity (A Villainously Romantic Retelling Book 3) by Brandy Slaven

Identity (A Villainously Romantic Retelling Book 3)

the tough choices are what makes life

Years ago, I was the scape goat for a very powerful man and his six sons. I managed to escape and build a quiet life for myself. When the opportunity arose to help others in similar situations, I took it. Now, I’m known in the streets for my talented hand in forgery among other things. Almost anybody a person wishes to become, I can make it happen, well, with the help of my two best friends.

Arsuilla. Survivor. Savior. I answer to them all. Oh, and voice stealer. I swear, throat punch a guy one time and it’ll stick with you for a lifetime.

Life is looking up until the six sons find me. At first I fear they’ve been sent by their father to drag me kicking and screaming back to him. But I soon come to realize, I’ve got more to fear from Anderson, Alejandro, Abraham, Atlas, Alek, and Aric. Like losing my heart to the six brothers.

This is a Villainously Romantic WhyChoose Retelling with some chuckles, several fearless stunts, and enough determination to rival the sea.

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

*Clapping*  The Little Mermaid was my girls favorite Disney movie so I was super excited to read this book.  I mean everyone hates Arsuilla AKA Su.  She has left everyone she loves and everything she knows to keep the ones she loves safe.  She is now helping others who left with nothing on their backs.  She says she wished she had someone helping her when she escaped so she is returning the favor with her talents. When the guys some back Arsuilla freaks but soon starts to remember and fall for the brothers.

The scenes with the br0thers are Bow Chicka Wow Wow reads for sure.  ANNNND Of course since it’s a RH series you can’t pick just one and thank God you don’t have too.

This is a great addition to the series of anti-hero books!!

Brandy Slaven lives in Tennessee with her husband and two wild children. If you can’t find her typing away at her laptop, you will find her with her nose in a book at the beach or hiking at one of the state parks. Bringing her characters to life is one of her greatest accomplishments.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Erin Trejo

Erin Trejo

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m a full time writer and a mom of 4 kids. I’m typically pretty quiet until I get to know people. Then hold on to your ass!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

Typically when I write I like it to be quiet. If I hear music, I will sing along. It’s a downfall. lol.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting new people! I think it’s amazing to connect with people that I may not have gotten the chance to before.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

OMG there are so many. I would say Carian Cole. She has listened to me whine since I started writing and never once complained. She is always so helpful and such a sweetheart.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I have a specific spot in my room. I call it my bubble corner. I like to live there. haha

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Wow, I’d say meeting Golden Czermak. He is just a huge inspiration to so many. I love that man!

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

As someone who has met a famous person and been crushed by them, I totally related to Emma.  She totally dug Ollie and to find out what he was really like…ugh.  Emma wins a date with Ollie who is in her favorite band.  She is totally stoked because hell its OLLIE.  She soon discovers what a not awesome dude he is and then we see Caleb.  He too is in the bad with Ollie.

This book is essentially a friends’ to lovers’ story with Emma and Caleb finding each other and then falling for each other.  Caleb stepped up and helped Emma when her date with Ollie was a hot mess.  Caleb used to be a player but has grown tired of it.  Which I was kinda stunned by because he is so not like Ollie but I guess that cheetah changed his spots!!  LOL

I enjoyed the story and look for more in the series.

Preorder the other books in the series now too!

NEVER KISS A ROCKSTAR (Dec. 5)
NEVER LOVE A ROCKSTAR (Feb. 5)
NEVER LEAVE A ROCKSTAR (Mar. 5)

Sarah Darlington was born in Colorado and grew up all over the United States. She and her family call Virginia home these days. The best word to describe Sarah is ‘creative.’ She’s passionate about designing, crafting, and photography. But most of all… she loves to write. Her creative bone and OCD personality mix well.

Her romance books are sexy and heart-gripping at their core, guaranteed to make you swoon. Any of them can be read as a stand-alone, but all are connected within the same world.

#WOTR20 #5YearFamily #AuthorSpotlight – JM Walker

J.M. Walker

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

J.M. Walker – Oh gosh. I hate talking about myself. I’m married with 2 furbabies. I love coffee, peanut butter and beer. Oh and cookies. Not all in that order. Horror movies are my jam. I HATE romance movies but love writing them. Go figure right?

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

Just music. I also love writing at Starbucks too. I can bang out a couple thousand words in like 2 hours there. Apparently the noise helps.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting readers!!!! And getting to know my fellow authors.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’ve met most of the people who attend WOTR. As for the new authors attending, I haven’t read any of them. 🙁

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

Nope. No schedule. I’m all over the place which works well for me.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Honestly? Meeting so many readers and authors. This has been a crazy ride. One that I never expected to be on and while it’s been challenging at times, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Broken Scars – It took me 6 years to write and release it. I lived an breathed that thing. Lucas Crane will always be apart of me and I can’t wait to revisit him and see how he’s doing.

#Sugar4Spice #AuthorSpotlight – Miranda Shanklin

Miranda Shanklin

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Miranda Shanklin I write paranormal romance about witches. I live in central Illinois with my husband and two teenage children. we have two dogs, a turtle and three cats. I am a paralegal for my day job and write every chance I get. My mind is always spinning and coming up with the next story or working out what will come up next in the story I’m working on now. My family sometimes has a hard time keeping my attention because I will get lost in the story in my head, but instead of getting annoyed it has become a family joke.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I used to need it to be silent. My husband built me an office and put extra insulation around it as a sound barrier. Now I have to play Pandora so there is some kind of noise in the background. I always have peanut butter M&Ms and Mountain Dew there too.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love seeing other authors that I have met at other signings but I have to admit I can’t beat the feeling of meeting readers who have read one of my books and is there just to find me and wants the next book. Or hears what the books are about and gets excited to read them. That is what I do this for, the readers, so when they get excited it makes it all worth it.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Stephen King. I have been reading his books since I was a preteen. I don’t know if I would even be able to say anything if I came face to face with him. I would completely fan girl.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’m a sit and go whenever I have a chance kind of person. Just like I write. I don’t plan anything. I feel it’s too forced if I plan it out because then I have to follow this plan that’s already laid out. Then if something new comes to me I can’t do that because it will mess up the rest of the plan. I am just as surprised as to what is going to happen next in my books as everyone else. I tried doing a schedule and I ended up sitting there at a blank screen. I had to go back to just sitting down and writing when it felt right to me.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I get a booth at a local festival every year and sell copies of my books. I had to stop writing for a little bit while I had some health issues. I had one woman come to my booth every year and ask if I had gotten my trilogy written and published yet. This year I had just gotten the last book published before the festival. She was so excited she was bouncing as she paid for the books. She said she was going home to re-read the series and then start the trilogy.
she was so excited. She didn’t lose interest, instead she just kept waiting and couldn’t wait to read what I had written. I am still amazed by that.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

The first book I wrote. It will always be my most prized possession. It shows that I had a dream and no matter how much I was told it would never happen, I made it happen. I worked hard and I made my dream come true.
