#AuthorSpotlight – M.J. Schiller

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself and which Twinsie do you know.

Hi! My name is M.J. Schiller and I’m a romance writer/retired lunch lady. (You probably haven’t met too many of those!) I’m also a mother to one wonderful 26-year-old and three equally wonderful 24-year-olds! (Yes, they’re triplets!) I like singing at karaoke and watching St. Louis Blues’ hockey!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Usually when I write a series, I have each of the books planned out, so they’re usually equally difficult or easy. However, the first one does seem to go more quickly.

What comes first? The plot or characters?

It’s kind of simultaneous and also depends on the book. For DAMAGE DONE it was a single line that popped into my mind that spurred the rest. “Even through bloodshot eyes he could tell she was different.” It all built from there. Plot and characters are so closely intertwined for me it’s hard to say which comes first.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Nora Roberts.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

1) What do they credit their success to. 2) What inspires them. 3) Have they ever felt like quitting.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series?

Probably blurb writing, although all can have their difficulties.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Probably the toast my husband made at my first book signing. He had planned it out and I was very touched!

What is your definition of success?

For me success in the business equals having enough sales to pay for editing and covers for the next book, and advertising. If I could make a little more to ease some of the stress on my hubby, that would be awesome, too. Success in life is a whole other story. I guess my definition of that would be striving to be the best that you can be each day and serving others.

#AuthorSpotlight – Naomi Valkyrie

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself and which Twinsie do you know.

I’m Naomi Valkyrie. I’m an Autistic Author that loves dark and spooky things. I spend most of my time writing paranormal fantasy, paranormal romance, and procrastinating – I mean networking – with other authors in a Discord group.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I have found that each book comes with its unique challenges.

What comes first? The plot or characters?

It depends. Sometimes all I get is a name to start with, other times I get bits of story line.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

This is a tough question. I read so much that it is difficult to choose just one. For this round I’m going to say, Domino Finn.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

(1) Where do you research the magic elements you write? (2) Where did the idea for the Black Magic Outlaw series come from? (3) How many parts of the BMO books did you love but have to cut out during editing?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series?

Blurb writing – no contest. I hate it so, so much, lol.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I think the memory that stands out is feeling relieved that there were actually people who loved my first book.

What is your definition of success?

There are several categories of success. You can be successful in all areas, or just in some areas. At this point in my life, I feel like anything that makes you feel accomplished or satisfied with your work is a success.

#AuthorSpotlight – Maggie Adams

Maggie Adams

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Maggie Adams – Maggie Adams is an internationally bestselling romance author. Her first book in the Tempered Steel Series, the romantic comedy-Whistlin’ Dixie, debuted in Top 100 for Women’s Fiction, Humor, on November 2014. Since then, she has consistently made the various best seller 5-star lists with her Tempered Steel Series. Her series has launched the tiny town of Grafton, Illinois, into international recognition with sales in Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, Australia and the UK. She is the recipient of various awards for excellence including Dayreader Reviews Best of 2015, the Readers Favorite Award 2016, the Indie Romance Convention Romantic Comedy Award 2017 and the 2017 New Apple Awards -Suspense. She hit #1 best-seller on all major ebook sites with her contribution in the Feisty Heroines Romance Collection of Shorts in 2020.
She also writes paranormal romance, young adult romance and women’s fiction. Maggie’s books can be found on eBook and paperback on her website and all major book sites.
When she’s not writing, she can be found dancing, singing and cooking (usually all at the same time), and spending time with her family and friends. Her life, according to her husband, is a living version of the a Lucille Ball sitcom, but they wouldn’t change it for anything!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The others after in my opinion. You have to make sure all your timetables, characters, and scenes are in sync with each new book. It’s amazingly tedious.

What comes first? The plot or characters

Characters are always first for me. Those darn voices in my head!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Lexi Blake!! Of course, I’d probably be so star struck, I’d likely giggle until I snort like a pig then pass out.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

How do you maintain the freshness of each book in a series? Is your husband your guinea pig for figuring out scenes? (mine is…) Who is your favorite author?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

The Blurb!!! Gah, I hate writing those. I’m always afraid my knowledge of the book is going to either give out too much (spoiler) or not enough (boring).

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Wow! I’m not sure I could pick just one. I’m always amazed and humbled that people recognize me at events. Same goes with other authors. I’m like, “but I’m just me and you’re so well known. How do you know me?” lol

What is your definition of success?

Being happy with your life, no matter what you do, or what others think. It’s taken me quite a long time to come to the conclusion that if your heart is happy, then life is good.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given a code for the audio book by the author for an honest review.

I have too stay I really enjoy the narrator for this story.  Michel has Logan narrate her Tattoo series called The Permanent Hangover.  I truly do enjoy his voice and the variations he can make for the different characters he voices.  There are times his voice is like melted butter ladies *wink wink*.  It was a great listen.

Ok if you haven’t read anything by Michel lemme tell ya, she writes some hard topics.  She doesn’t sugar coat them and she can make things a bit uncomfortable, but she is always respectful and truthful to the story.  This story does hit the topic of mental health issues for one of the side characters.    Her raw, gritty, TRUTH is something I actually look forward too.

This is the story about socialite Dani whose father is the rich IT Genius in Chicago.  She portrays the life of privilege which she HAS but doesn’t have.  Confusing right?  Her dad informs you he is rich, but she isn’t.  She has to chip in on the family’s weekly groceries, so she doesn’t take anything for granted.  Dani has a great career as a stylist for some of the football’s players of the NFL Team.  She is stunned stupid when she meets Rome getting fitted and not se well by her nemesis.

Rome sees Dani and thinks she is going to be another rich, spoiled, socialist but is shocked when she doesn’t know who he is.  HIM!!!  She doesn’t know Jerome Speed???  WHAT!!  After a brief and intriguing meeting, he needs to know more about her. The two bumps into each other when Dani was taking her “Tuesday Treat” day and hang out.  Rome is stunned she isn’t throwing herself at him and actually tends to dismiss him at times.  Who is this woman!!!??  Does she not know who he is and what his reputation is????

Rome and Dani start to spend time together when the paparazzi, his custody battle, her families not so happy reaction to her being in the gossip rag, annnnnnd a psycho baby momma cause so much trouble for this two.  They have an amazing chemistry, and nothing seems to stop them for being together.  I loved the story and the resolution of the drama between the side characters and the main character.  I am very excited for the next book because Dalton was a GREAT Beta to Rome’s alpha in this book.

Michel Prince is an author who graduated with a bachelor degree in History and Political Science. Michel writes young adult and adult paranormal romance as well as contemporary romance.

With characters yelling “It’s my turn damn it!!!” She tries to explain to them that alas, she can only type a hundred and twenty words a minute and they will have wait their turn. She knows eventually they find their way out of her head and to her fingertips and she looks forward to sharing them with you.

When Michel can suppress the voices in her head she can be found at a scouting event or cheering for her son in a variety of sports. She would like to thank her family for always being in her corner and especially her husband for supporting her every dream and never letting her give up.

Michel is a member of RWA Pro and Midwest Fiction Writers. In 2013 she was awarded Elite Status with Rebel Ink Press. She lives in the Twin Cities with her husband, son, and cat.

Characters – I don’t plot. I’ll take notes but that’s about it.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Tijan and Lily White. They are both my unicorn authors!

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

Um…well I’ve talked to both of them so…I guess I would ask Lily to help me get deeper into the dark subjects I write about. Go beyond the blood and gore kind of thing.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

The blurb. Always the freaking blurb.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Meeting and interacting with readers! So this would include all of the book signings I’ve been to as well!

What is your definition of success?

Besides being able to quit the day job of course, which I think is a goal for a lot of authors – I think I’m pretty successful. Sure, I don’t have a movie deal or anything but I have readers. They are what keeps me going and striving to be a better author, person, etc. I really couldn’t do this without them.

#NewRelease #Review Her Sweet Surrender (Brie’s Submission #21) by Red Phoenix

56607249. sy475

Brie has steeled herself for the battle ahead, but she has no idea the forces that lay in wait for her.

In the midst of chaos, she experiences the sweetest surrender in the arms of her Master.

Despite facing an uncertain future, Brie has never known such bliss…

Her Sweet Surrender

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

With every lease of this series my love for Brie, Sir and Rytsar grows more and more. I enjoy seeing all the members of this series also.  They have so much love for each other no matter how upset they get at on another just like any family does.

The things these Doms do for Brie amaze me with every scene. Master Anderson never disappoints with his pranks. Watching Sir take Brie on a trip down memory lane of sorts at the submissive school was wonderful. Seeing what a big heart Brie has for helping others is inspiring. The connection Brie, Sir and Rytsar have is an amazing bond that cannot be broken.  The gift that Rystar gives Brie is heartwarming. You have to love it when Lea, Mary and Brie get together you never know what will be said and what jokes will fly.

There were a lot of ups and downs in this book. So may happy things and then tragedy just as in real life. I need to know more of how things are going to go in the future for all.

#AuthorSpotlight – Quinn Ryder

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself and which Twinsie do you know.

“Well, I can’t tell you my real name because anonymity is everything when you write under a pen name, but I go by Quinn Ryder. I’m new to the MC/Mafia dark romance world, but have been writing under a different pen name for over five years. I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades, because there’s no genre I’m afraid to tackle as long as I have the inspiration to get the words out on paper. (or computer screen 😉 ) I am married with two kids, both in those crazy teenage years where attitude is in abundance, and friends are your only reason for living. I might as well live in a zoo with how many pets I have, and I spend most of my time either homeschooling the hormonal teens, dabbling in the underbelly of the criminal world with my stories, or editing for other authors. I enjoy watching movies, spending time with my family, and writing, writing, writing. As for the Twinsies, I’d love to get to know each and every one of you. I’m new to your blog, but you definitely have a new subscriber. ”

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

To be honest, the actual writing of certain books has never been hard for me. What is hard is the spontaneous bursts of inspiration that tend to lead me away from finishing series. I’ll be writing in one series, then get an idea for another. When you’re writing for two pen names, you have to go where the words take you, and sometimes it’s into new worlds that are screaming to be written.

What comes first? The plot or characters?

PLOT! There are times where I’ll have a book in my head but the characters refuse to name themselves. 95% of the time I have the blurb to my stories written before I have even started the book.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Hmm, I’d really like to meet Cassie Mae, Suzanne Collins, and JK Rowling (Mainly because my daughter is a super freak when it comes to Harry Potter, and I’d love to see her face while meeting one of her idols.) but I did already meet one of my Unicorn authors, RS Grey, when I first started getting into publishing.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series?

Blurbs have always come easy for me, titles and names have as well, so, in my opinion, the hardest thing about writing for me has always been writing the middle of a story. I write the beginning of a book, then the ending, and it’s the middles of a story that like to mess with me. I think of it as kinda like building a sandwich where you only have slices of bread and you have to go searching for that perfect ratio of meat, cheese, and condiments to pile in between that give your sandwich all the pizazz and flavor to make the perfect bite. Writing is like making sandwich. You have a solid beginning and a mind-blowing ending you know the readers love, but you also need those pieces of brilliance in between to round out your story and make it the perfect mix that readers can’t wait to sink their teeth into.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I think my favorite memory as an author would be publishing my first book. I was reluctant to take that leap off the proverbial ledge into the writing world because I was afraid I would sink, and now that I’m here, I keep treading water looking into the vast sea of amazing stories wondering which wave I belong to.

What is your definition of success?

I think success is what you make of it. For me success was the first time a reader contacted me to tell me how much they loved my story and how the book affected them in a emotional and positive way. I never expected people to love my books the way they do, but the outpouring of love I get from my readers is all the success I need. Sure, becoming a best-selling author who brings in a lot of money is a writer’s dream, but as long as people love my stories, that’s all the success I’ll ever need.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this book.

One of my favorite things about this series is the fact it does not shy away or sugar coat intense topic.  The story has hit on domestic violence and racism hard in these books.  This book is the biggest hammer to the topic of all the books and I worry/fear more will happen with the current “bad guys” of the storyline.

*Clapping* Topaz gets a man!!  FINALLY!!!  I have loved her from the start of the series and so I have been waiting to read her story and find out who steals her heart and makes her an Ol’Lady.  She is the “I’ll cut you bitch” momma hen to Roadkills “I will smother you to death” momma hen of the women in the club.  Topaz has been in the MC life first when she was with Dell and Steel and now with Red and Roadkill.  She knows her place and has earned respect from everyone for her loyalty to the club.  But Topaz is just SAD and that hurts me.

Onyx is the best sidekick to Hollywood you could have.  The two have a great bro-chemistry and it shows.  Onyx knows being black is a huge issue for most MC’s but not for Red and his crew.  They are interested in the character of the person.  The color is of no concern.

Unfortunately that is not the issue with a lot of people, especially the ACT-UP idiots….cult…..assholes???  Let’s go with racists assholes.  If you aren’t white, then you aren’t right is their slogan.  This attitude affects many of the Steel family in Turnabout Creek from Lil’ Mama, Cream, Hack, and many of the babies who live in the ranch.

When the racists idiots kidnap Onyx and Topaz they have to deal with her immediate dislike of him.  He thinks its because he is a big black man buuuuut that is far from the truth.  Topaz has lost and lost a very dear chunk of her heart.  Onyx makes her feel things she has learned to ignore and numbed herself too.

The story of them dealing with the kidnapping and confronting their feelings was sooooo amazing.  But seeing Topaz find a new skill set and feeling finally “at home” in Montana was the cherry on top in the story BUUUUT can I just say, Mountain is next and this girl does like the quiet ones….Better hold me tight Baldy!!
