27264499

After witnessing the gruesome death of his father at the hands of his Uncle Ian takes his brother and flees the only home he’s ever known.
For years they live amongst the humans hiding their true nature and running from their past.
Until one day they stop. Stop running. Stop hiding. All because they cross the scent of a woman.
Finding your mate is something every Shifter longs for.
But for Ian Reighliand whose father was once a King finding his mate is the last thing he wants.
Drawn to her in a way he can’t resist he watches her from the shadows.
Until one day he’s forced to step into the light. Until he’s forced to save her.
And claim what’s rightfully his.

Goodreads

Holy shifters and the b@d@ss women they attract! Shayne is a girl that is just floating through life. She doesn’t have any close friends, no family, and hates her job. One night her path crosses with Ian and Riley. The brothers are shifters!!! All of a sudden Shayne is thrown into a world that she doesn’t understand. The boys are used to being in a place of power and are not used to here standing up for herself and her mouth. It is very amusing and will put a smile on your face during their banter. Absolutely hilarious. They find themselves in some very tricky situations, not all of are safe. They find out more about their uncle who is the current king by default. They decide to go back to their lands and place Ian as the rightful heir to the throne. The story is very hard to put down. There is always something crazy going on. With all the action and the banter the story will keep you hooked! This is my first book this author and sure not to be the last. I have no idea where Mary Martel has been hiding, but I found you now! I am looking forward to the sequel!

#Review – The Amber Project (The Variant Saga #1) by JN Chaney

The Amber Project (Volume 1)

In 2157, a mysterious gas known as Variant spreads across the globe, killing or mutating most organic life. The surviving humans take refuge in an underground city, determined to return home. But after generations of failures and botched attempts, hope is beginning to dwindle. That is, until a young scientist makes a unique discovery—and everything changes. Suddenly, there’s reason to hope again, and it rests within a group of genetically engineered children that are both human and Variant.

Terry is one of these children, modified and trained to endure the harsh conditions of a planet he cannot begin to understand. After years of preparation, Terry thinks he knows what to expect. But the reality is far stranger than anything he can imagine—and what he will become is far more dangerous.

Goodreads

Holy dystopia! The Amber Project is a great dystopian journey. This is a genre I love to read and sometimes get a little iffy on how much it will differ from others in the same genre. The author sets the setting so that you are right there. The characters all feel incredibly real. You will connect with them very quickly. Humans are trying to keep their race going while living underground. The earth has been destroyed by the gas, Variant. During the entire story you are given snippets of audio recording from past and present regarding Variant and the various experiments the scientists and the military have been working on. During all of this you live and feel what the genetically altered kids are going through. You see why and how they are taken from their homes and sent to a place where they are trained like soldiers. And finally you experience the changes that they face internally and externally. They are forced to go to the surface for a mission. Many things are unknown and very dangerous. The journey they take and the uprisings going on below the surface are sure to keep you stuck on the story. The ending is very well written. It’s enough to wrap up this story but more than enough to keep you waiting on pins and needles for the next. This is my first story by JN Chaney and absolutely, under no circumstances, be the last. Well done!

Goodreads

This story is very much intriguing. I was very excited to get into this as the author starts from the very beginning letting us know that this is based on real events. Which in turn makes me want to read it even more. We get started and get some background on the village and the people. We meet Penny Lane as well. I thought this was going to be more about Penny Lane actually investigating the paranormal activities but this was not the case. Four girls try to summon their friend who tragically passed away but they unlock some bad spirits. From here the story kind of jumps around between these girls and a few other characters with different types of paranormal things happening. Very little is actually about Penny Lane investigating the incidents. It is a short story and easy to read but I wish the author would have spent more time building the setting and letting us get to know the characters better. I really wanted this story to be great. It was good for me but it has the potential for so much more. I look forward to see what else David Cooper sends our way.

#WOTR – #REVIEW – Love and the Corps (The Heart Nebula Series #2) by Ava Cuvay

Love and the Corps (The Heart Nebula Series #2)

Bound by duty, two soldiers yield to their hearts’ command.

Captain Jo Behsue has never questioned her career with Central Command’s leading military force—until now. Recent mission failures and the constant battle for acceptance from her fellow Corpsmen kindle her frustration, while the attention of a golden-eyed Klorakian mercenary ignites her body. Wrapped in his arms, she discovers even a scarred, hollow shell of a captain can love.

An officer in the Klorakian militia, Lux fights to return the rightful monarch to their homeworld’s throne—a planet which scorns his genetic shortcomings. He is loyal to his cause and king, but faces a bleak future once their mission is complete. His seduction of the combative yet beautiful Captain Behsue provides a glimpse of hope, and he fights for a life with Jo, who finds only beauty in his defects.

This book is intended for a mature audience. It contains graphic language, vivid relations, and the word “moist.”

Goodreads

Willing and wanting! Packed full of action and sexual angst. Captain Jo is with the Corps and Klorakian mercenaries are their allies. Jo has always been the ugly one. Her life is with the Corps, life and body. She has trained hard and believes she is invincible. She goes on a mission and is saved by the Klorakians. A certain Klorakian, Lux, is the one that saves her. Lux is an outcast himself. Full of genetic defects by Klorakian standards. Both are unwanted until they run into each other. Naturally fireworks explode. They both find refuge in each other but Jo continues to fight it as she is constantly trying to figure what is right and wrong. Lots of secrets are uncovered between the two of them. This is a sexually charged push and pull between them but they are always in the middle of a battle. Whether it be with the PITAS or with their emotions. They overcome many obstacles and then begin to wonder if they are worth each others time. This is such a crazy ride. Love the characters and the world building (or space building). It’s outstanding! You feel like you are right in the middle with the sights and sounds of all the soldiers. This author has an incredible knack of pulling you right in the story and making it where you absolutely don’t want to put the book down. Well done, Ava! Another out of this world story!

#Review – The Scent of Lilac (Arrow’s Flight Novella #1) by Casey Hays

The Scent of Lilac (Arrow's Flight Novella #1)

And for the first time in her life, she finds herself in opposition to the Council.

In her despair, she is drawn to the one person she has fervently resisted: her mate. Soon, her feelings for him shift into something real and powerful—powerful enough to make him human. Powerful enough to make loving him dangerous.

The Village stands on the brink of chaos, and an ever-growing mood of dissension threatens. In the midst of it all, Mia’s heart begins to change. But when a group of young rebels drags her into its fold, her courage is quickly pitted against her fear. Will she join the fight and allow bravery to transform her spirit? Goodreads

A beautiful story of finding yourself and standing up for what you believe in…or what you are not sure you believe in yet. 🙂 The companion novella picks up right where Breeder leaves off. In Breeder, Kate has been chosen as the new leader but ends up leaving with the boys from Eden. Mia decides not to leave with Kate but the longer Kate has been gone, Mia realizes that she is truly alone. She starts to think about some of the things that Kate said as she left and Mia starts to pay attention to her surroundings more. Her village is falling apart and she finds solace with here mate in the pit. She starts to question more of her life and what is truly right and wrong. She changes in this story as she stands up for what she believes in and brings new meaning to her life and the village. She becomes stronger because of the hand she has been dealt. There is an array of bad that happens but those are the things that can make people stronger. The ending of this story takes place after the end of Master. It is a very intimate, heart wrenching, and lovely story that will stay with you long after you finish it.

#WOTR – #Review – Viva Zapata & the Magic 8-Ball by Savannah Verte

Viva Zapata & the Magic 8-Ball: A motivational tale of personal transformation with humor, adventure, and friendship.

Four women face their flaws, fears, and futures when they meet in person for the first time for a girl’s weekend in Las Vegas. Each gets a bit more than they bargained for as they get to know one another over three days in Sin City. Truths come out to prompt change as they learn that life is less about the cards in their hands than the way they play the game.
In the end they realize that there is more about them alike than different and that anything is possible with friends who support their journeys. Three days, a Mexican revolutionary, and a Magic 8-ball that came along for the ride later, they each leave Las Vegas different than when they arrived.

Sometimes what happens in Vegas can’t stay.

Goodreads

This is out of my normal zone of reading but I really enjoyed this book. Most of us can relate to the women that this story follows. They met in an online book club and are all very different women. They finally meet for a “girls weekend” in Vegas. It was a little difficult for me at first to keep all the women straight but ultimately I fell in love with these characters. They are all dealing with some sort of demon in their life. The brief history lesson you get about this revolution is a great part of this story. The magic 8 ball is relevant as well. They all are on their own personal revolution and become better friends for this. I can’t go into the story too much because it will give it all away. This is a light, funny read with great friendship. This is a must read for all women!

Born and raised in the upper Midwest, Savannah’s gypsy spirit and never quit attitude keep her busy and seldom idle. For so many reasons, Savannah considers herself a ‘Contemporary Vagabond’ when it comes to writing and hopes that others find her diverse offerings as enjoyable to read as they are to write.

Her first release in decades, Viva Zapata & the Magic 8-Ball began the journey August 1, 2015. Her short story, What they didn’t know, was featured in the January/February BTS magazine, and she co-authored a paranormal piece, Kingdoms Fall, which came out in early 2016. Her next two solo ventures, the first two books in The Custos series -Book of Time & Book of Change also released in 2016. After that, she’ll be working on her competition piece, Chasing Daylight for Cherry Adair’s Finish the Damn Book Challenge, she has an upcoming anthology work called Immortal Alchemy, and an untitled short story for a charity anthology that is a TBA release. There is a long list of titles to come after those are done too.

As the primary owner and driving force behind Eclectic Bard Books she considers herself immensely fortunate to see writing from varied perspectives as she endeavors to publish the authors rostered there. #Review – Master: Arrow’s Flight #3 by Casey Hays

Master: Arrow's Flight #3

First, a knife. Then a flaming arrow. Now . . . bullets that explode and destroy their intended targets with a white poison that seeps into the veins on impact.

Instant death.

They call them Eden-killers, and never before have Ian and his people been in such danger. After all, how can someone die when he’s so hard to kill?

But as Kate fights for her life, Ian prepares for a battle of his own. Eden is under siege, and the city’s only hope lies in the hands of four boys who shifted only recently. Four boys who are just as susceptible to Eden-killers as every other man from Eden.

Ian is determined to save his family, but before he can, he must learn the truth about Eden. He must face his own demons. He must come to grips with the fact that what Kate has been searching for her entire life is what he needs, too.

He must learn, for once, to let someone save him.

Master is the long awaited finale in the Arrow’s Flight series.

Goodreads

Full of love, fear, and faith! The cliffhanger we were left with was intense! But we start right where we left. Ian is scrambling to save Kate and will do anything to get her the help she needs. This is where it gets intense. There is a ton of stuff going on with an impending war and the truth coming out about Eden. Ian is going crazy trying to be in two places at once…back home and with Kate. They are welcomed with open arms in Jordan and seek the help they are searching for but what they stumble upon is a higher power. Kate and Ian are both shown a kindness by the people of Jordan and ultimately they want to help save them but they get more than they bargained for. For the most part the story is full of action with the right amount of worry, love, and fear. This is a Christian dystopian novel and sometimes the internal struggle that Ian and Kate both have with the higher power is a bit exhausting but it ties everything up perfectly at the end. Both are faced with many hard choices and challenges but with the help of new found friends, and old ones of course, they are able to move forward. The ending is not at all what I was expecting…in the slightest bit, but I think this pulls the entire series together. I am looking forward to the novellas to come so we can dip into Kate and Ian’s lives a little more. They are truly loveable characters!

Skeleton Key Book Series
One Skeleton Key. Endless Adventures.
https://skeletonkeybookseries.com

Landon has never seen his own reflection. He saw hers instead. He grew up watching this girl in the mirror grow with him. Grew up memorizing every feature, every movement, every horror she endured. He can see into her palace, into the darkness she’s trapped in.
When he was little, he told his parents about her. They thought she was an imaginary friend, and they humored him.
But she didn’t go away.
And when Landon was seventeen, he fell in love with her.
She is a captive of the Queen of the Damned.
Now he’ll risk everything to try to save her—his life, his home, his entire world.
Bloody Mary
The queen in the mirror.
Bloody Mary
Waiting to steal your soul.
Bloody Mary…

Goodreads

What a unique spin on the Bloody Mary stories. This is a YA novel that can be read as a standalone but is part of a series. Landon is 17 and grew up watching this mesmerizing girl in the mirror…that no one else can see. Elizabeth is said girl in the mirror. She held captive in the Isle of the Damned by Bloody Mary. She can feel Landon and his strength. She has been held captive for so long everything tends to run together. Things start to go awry and the Isle of the Damned and Earth are in trouble. Landon is called on for an important mission and Elizabeth finds her true strength and calling. This is truly a twisted tale that is the emotional rollercoaster you come to expect with teenagers. However, there are twists to this ghost story that you won’t see coming and these will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end. This story touches on depression and how they overcome these obstacles. The characters and world building are great. You won’t go wrong with this story. I was not aware at the beginning that this is a novella for the Skeleton Key series but am looking forward to reading more!

Will Wren and Maddox be able to get past the fear and find the road home to each other?

Goodreads

The final book in the Wounded Bird Series! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! This has been a truly captivating series from the beginning and continued strong! Lots of strong emotions. Can anyone be truly happy? Wren is struggling with trying to be happy. Things are going her way but there is still one hole…Maddox. At the end of the second story Maddox decides he is going to be sure that he is happy or die trying. He is finally tired of hurting and watching Wren hurt as well. These two go through a slew of trials trying to find their happy. Will everyone accept or not? Or do they matter? I was really worried about what the twist will be coming into the last book. I was a mess trying to figure it out. Bella holds true to her style and throws you an insane twist that will grab your heart and twist it in the best possible way. Grab your tissues for the extreme lows but you will also smile with a huge heart. Bravo, Bella! This is an awesome series and an incredible ending!!! Mwah!

#Review – Devour (Death & Decay #1) by R.L. Blalock

Devour (Death & Decay #1)

St. Louis is falling to pieces. In the midst of rioting, a dangerous new disease has sprung pushing an already dire situation over the edge. Those who are infected suddenly become extremely aggressive, attacking and even eating those around them. And Olivia “Liv” Bennett is caught right in the middle of it.

Liv’s hectic life of school, work, and motherhood grind to a halt as the city around her begins to devour itself. Forced to flee from her car with nothing but a diaper bag and her eighteen-month-old daughter, Elli. Liv must trek forty miles on foot across the feral infested suburbs of St. Louis to a safe haven that may not even be safe.

What other hope does she have?

As her world begins to crumble, Liv is left clinging to the hope that Slag Stead, a two hundred and fifty acres, self-sufficient farm, remains a beacon of light and not another slaughter. But getting there just might kill her.

Goodreads

The beginning lines of this story will devour you… sucks you right in. This story starts 5 days before zombies start taking over. There have been riots all over the city. She takes off on the fight of her life. She finds quickly that communications are starting to go down and things are getting crazier by the minute. The story walks you through all of Liv’s journey for 5 days. She is struggling to try and keep her and her daughter alive. She finds new allies and friends but continually experiences loss and heartache. I cannot give spoilers but the end is one to die for. Such a crazy ride!
