I received this book from the author.

I love Historical stories and Dawn has some great stories!!

This story begins with Pia mourning the loss of her father and having to move from the USA to France.  She is not happy about leaving her family home but since she is a woman, she must go to her grandpere.  The story jumps in right away with lots of action.  Pia and her maid Tully are secluded in the deck of the ship when pirates attack.

Pia comes face to face with pirate Thor.  He is fierce and hot…wait not now Pia. She is so confused because of all the men to show interest in, a pirate is not the right one.  Not for her station on life annnd for her reputation.

Thor had plans for Pia.  She was the perfect revenge tool for him but once he sees her and her beauty, he is stuck stupid.  He soon has a change in plan because tossing her aside is no longer his objective.  Keeping her is!!

The story jumped right into the action of the kidnaping.  Thor and Pia are two peas in a pod.  They two are faced with feelings they should not be having yet can’t stop having.  When you find out why Thor has kidnapped Pia, you understand his motives but still wanna smack him in the head for “knowing what’s best for her”.  Sigh…

A spicy Christmas novella.

Ohio. December, 1860.

Sheriff Charlie Calcut can count on two things every Christmas: his Mother feeding him until his pants don’t fit, and endless teasing about his bachelorhood. Not this year. To appease his mother, he wrote letters home crafting a fake fiancee. But now he’s expected to bring a real live woman home for Christmas, and the only one he can trust with this crazy plan is pants-wearing, hard-living Rose Hawthorne, better known as Thorny Rose.

There’s a war coming, and Rose means to be long gone on the way to Oregon before it reaches Ohio. So she can’t resist Charlie’s offer to help her on her way, and to have one last holiday full of home cooking and a loving family–even if it’s not her own.

Christmas festivities and cold nights pull them together with a passion neither expected, but is that enough to build a life upon? And when the whole world is going dark, can love be the light?

Life is never quiet at the court of King James I, especially with his good friend and secret lover, Sebastian Hewel, by his side. Fated For The Duke (Enduring Legacy, #13)

Descended from witches burned at the stake, Lady Emilia Noble knows all too well how society persecutes the different. She trusts no one but her own siblings, never daring to reveal to anyone outside the family that she, like her grandmother before her, can read a person’s emotions through the changing colors of their aura. When her brother’s foolhardy boast that he can predict the future entangles him with the unscrupulous Lord Abernathy, Emilia is faced with a new threat: the ruination of the family’s finances and the unmasking of their secret past.

Until Emilia meets Felix Hunter, the Duke of Kintore. For years, Felix has watched as his immoral uncle, Lord Abernathy, has cast shame upon their family through his dishonest machinations. Determined that Abernathy won’t hurt anyone else, he vows to help Emilia resolve her family’s debts. He’s been drawn to her since the moment he met her, and slowly, she begins to trust him too. But when Abernathy threatens to reveal the Noble family’s supernatural gifts, Emilia’s worst nightmare becomes a very real reality.

Can Felix and Emilia’s love triumph over the forces of evil, or are they fated to be perpetually alone?

When love is mixed with magic, anything can happen.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Before I start, I should say I have not read all the books in the series, but you don’t need to in order to follow each story.  However, each story is a descendent of the characters from the very first story.  So if you haven’t read the first book I recommend you do so to understand what is happening or where these stories came from.

Ok so this story, Emilia and her sisters all have the gift to read peoples auroras which came from their burned at the stake witch descendants hence why there is a paranormal theme.  This can be a gift and a curse for people.  It becomes a curse when her brother tells the wrong people about his ability and BOOM the bad guy enters the story.  However, we soon learn the bad guy has a sweet family member in the wings who will do all he can for Emilia and her family.

I enjoyed the story of Felix and Emilia.  I loved the light touched of paranormal in the story because I am a huge paranormal girl.  This story, as with all of her stories, have the theme of the importance of family.  I loved seeing her bringing her writing gifts to this series.

Mr. Sebastian Stanwick never intended to marry. It was bad enough that his father gambled away everything they owned and then drank himself to death, leaving his mother broken until she could not go on. But the death of his good friend at the hand of the man’s wife only solidifies Stanwick’s decision to remain a bachelor. Women were simply unpredictable and unstable if not taken care of properly.

Hélène Mirabelle wants few things in life. One, is to perform on the stage, and the other, is to be out from under the roof of her overbearing new family: Lord Bentley and the Trent brothers. Since her mother’s recent passing, Hélène’s desire to return to Milan and the stage has only grown. A husband could never fit into the plans because no decent man would take an actress as a wife.

One fateful night leaves Hélène questioning if being an actress is the only thing she wants, while Stanwick begins to wonder whether all women are truly prone to madness and if they are, he may never get Hélène off of his mind.

Lady Disguised, a novella, first appeared in anthology, A Pact Between Gentlemen, released November, 2013

Book 8 -All Genviève Mirabelle wanted was her mother’s belongings and a place for herself, out from under the watchful eyes of her step-brothers. The Trent Brothers, specifically. Since coming into her life they have had very definite plans for her future, despite her objections. There is only one thing keeping her from seeking her freedom: her mother’s missing shipment. Once found, she can live as she wishes, without a gentleman telling her what to do.

Mr. Jonathan Bridges owns one of the finest shipping lines in London. That is, he did until his secretary and a few employees disappeared, leaving a muddle of things. Now several crates are missing and he has no explanation for the owners. The one most persistent in demanding answers is Miss Genviève Mirabelle. As much as he tries to put her off, she is determined to help him. Heaven save him from meddling females who are better served sitting at home having tea.

Their search leads them from the docks and right into the heart of a smuggling ring. But their lives are not the only thing in danger. Their hearts hang in the balance, since neither one ever anticipated what was to come.

Book 9 -A SECOND EPILOGUE: Catch up with the Trents, meet up with old friends, and possibly meet someone new.

Dearest Reader,

You are cordially invited to the wedding of Mr. Jonathan Bridges and Miss Genviève Mirabelle. The marriage is to take place at the Church of St. George, Hanover Square, Mayfair, London, on May 1, 1815 at two in the afternoon. I am fully aware that this is not a proper or appropriate time for a wedding. However, the church has been quite busy of late, sometimes with two and three weddings scheduled a day, and neither the bride nor groom were willing to wait weeks just so they can be married before noon. Thus, they have expedited matters and obtained a Special License. This was mainly due to Mr. Bridges not willing to wait longer than necessary to make Miss Mirabelle his bride.

A wedding breakfast shall follow at the home of Lord and Lady Bentley, and a ball will be held that evening. I do hope you’ll join us for this most celebrated event. Besides the Trents, friends and acquaintances you might be familiar with will also be in attendance, but I don’t dare give their names away. That would ruin the surprise.

The Right Honorable Countess of Bentley

Book 10- The one thing Rose Trent, Dowager Countess of Bentley, has ever wanted was her freedom. Now it’s within her grasp. Or it was, until she is kidnapped on the very first holiday she’s ever taken. What should have been traumatic turns into the most adventurous time in her life, thanks to a handsome Scot named Aiden MacGregor. Unfortunately, she only has a fortnight to thoroughly enjoy herself before her stepsons show up to pay the ransom.

Laird Aiden MacGregor usually thinks through everything before taking action. After all, order is necessary to a successful business and home. But now, one rash action throws everything into disorder. He wasn’t the one who kidnapped the delightful and beautiful Lady Bentley, but he’s the one who will pay the price. Fearing the worst, he’ll spend his last days on earth making everything right with his family, securing their future, and spending every moment he can with Rose before he swings from the gallows.

With a word, or perhaps a promise, Rose might save his neck, but at what cost?

For The Love of a Widow by Christina McKnight – 5 Stars

I receive this book from the author for an honest review.
Oh man!! This book was amazing. I loved the novella and the different approach of the characters. Lettie is a great heroine who has gone through A LOT in the last 6 years. She has left her best friend/betrothed, her dowry, her EVERYHTING to marry a common man. To marry a soldier. All of this against her families wishes.
Daniel was so far in his “cups” to care that his best friend was calling off their marriage. He only cared about ruining himself further in the gaming halls, with willing woman and other things. His depression and downward spiral after his father’s death left him a mess and so saying good bye to Lettie was fine with him.
6 years.
6 years later everything has changed. Lettie is not the popular debutant in the Ton from before. She is a jaded widow who has seem more death and blood shed then any one should have seen. She is lost without her beloved Gregory. He was lost to her in the war. She returns home poor, and destroyed on the inside.
Daniel has realized his life is nothing without Lettie. He let her go 6 years ago, because he was too drunk to know any better and has regretted it every day. When she returns, he will do anything to have her back.
The heartbreaking recounts from Lettie are enough for you to understand why she pushed everyone away. When Daniel opens up to what made him wake up, you want to badly for them to figure to out. Seeing Daniel open up to Lettie, I was totally swooning!! This story was a great read and I would love to read more from them in the future…maybe have them pop in to a future story would be awesome too!!
Stolen by My Knave by Dawn Brower – 5 Stars

**Claapping** AHHHHHH Captain Jack’s book! *Bootie Shaking and fist pumping* I have been so wondering about him after Evelyn’s book and now we know what happens to him.

Jack wakes up after a fall through time to save the king annnd his mistress soooo the king gives the stranger a title but no lands. Jack is in England time trying to figure out what to do and maybe how to get back to his time and life. He knows that getting an invite to the 2 week ball is probably going to drive him nuts. Having a title means young married minded woman will be looking for a husband. That is not in Jack’s cards.

Elizabeth knows alllll about time travel given that her grandmother and mother both did it. Her grandmother escaped Captain Jack and her mother fell through time to marry her father. She has seen visions of Jack but always thought they were her imagination running wild and never really thought that she was seeing the real man.

When they meet unexpectedly at the library, the chemistry was awesome. They both are intrigued and want to know more. When Jack tells Elizabeth his name and then tells her who she is…..Que plot twist….the two can’t be together!! GASP!!

When Jack talks to Alys all about her life, time travel and he learns all is not what he thought so he runs to find and claim his Elizabeth much like Mr. Darcy in the book he is reading!!

This book was one of my favorites in the series!!

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I have been so waiting for Peyton’s book. She was the baby of the family and the secretive one, so I wanted to know how this hard woman would fall or more who would win her heart.  I admit I loved seeing her soft side emerge and caring for 2 lost souls much like herself as a child.  She is the perfect person to take care of these troublesome kiddos for sure.  She can handle the spunk and hurt they feel over the loss of their mother and subsequent father.

Damon is lost without his wife.  He can’t imagine a day without her and yet here he is living while she is no more.  He is so afraid of screwing up his kids, he hides from them not realizing that is what is screwing them up.  Damon is beyond frustrated when the new governess is not able to handle his children and yet she also will not stand down from him when he gives a dictate.

When Damon discovers a “secret” side to his new governess he is beyond interested in her but seeing her care and support for his children makes his heart seize up.  He should be the one caring for them and yet she is.  He should be the one comforting their night terrors and yet she is the one they come to.

I loved the dynamic of the two.  Damon and Pey are prefect matches for each other.  She will not allow him to hide from his duties as a father and he shows her that loving a man is more then just giving up your freedom to live in a cage.  The love match is a slow burn because they are both from different stations in life and different places.  He has no idea of the heartbreak she has felt in her life and she comes to understand what losing is wife has done to him and his children.

Garrett!!  Oh Garrett!! I am so ready for your book.  Seeing you with the kids made my heart melt like jelly….seriously I love him so hard and I can’t wait to see some woman make a proper gentleman outta him.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Oh sister!!  This book is an amazing jump into a series of books that will all be based off the family of witches centered in this story.

This is a crazy look at how absurd times were during the witch trials and any wrong move can land you being labeled a witch.  Your entire family is then subjected to torture and then death whether you admit or not to being a witch.  This is such a such  horrible part of true culture.

This story is about a family who tried to help out another but is then marked withes.  We see the witches trying to save their family, so they will endure and their bloodline will stay alive.

If you like witches or the Salem Witch Trials, then this is a book for you to give a try. The backstory of this family is short and sweet but just enough to get you to want even more.

The Lady Loves A Scandal: Regency Novella

Originally published in IT STARTED WITH A WHISPER Anthology

Lady Sybil Anson thought she had it all. Even a match of the heart, despite so many London elite marrying for convenience. But the night before their betrothal was to become official, the love of her life vanished—with a hastily scrawled note and little more. She feared the worst as her heart ached for Gideon, and the scandal sheets simply made matters worse with their preposterous musings on the hows and whys of Viscount Galway’s disappearance. Now, more than a year later, he’s unexpectedly back, and Sybil will have her answers.

Many, many years ago, Gideon Lyndon made a grave mistake. One he’s spent most of his adult life trying to rectify. And despite the progress made, the sacrifices were extensive and damaging. On the verge of repairing one misdeed, he finds himself faced with his greatest challenge yet: winning back the woman he has loved since the moment he met her. But after a year of silence, convincing his headstrong paramour to take him back will not be easy. Especially since he can’t even explain why he left—not if he wants to keep her safe.

The Lady Loves A Scandal: Regency Novella by Christina McKnight

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.

This is such a fast paced and action-packed novella.  If you haven’t read Christina, this is a great book to sink your teeth into.  The world she creates is solid and accurate.

Sybil and Gideon are mad in love.  They are sneaking away in the evening to steal a final kiss before the contracts for their betrothal are finalized.  When Sybil watches Gideon ride off she is devastated.  She has no idea where he went of when he will return.  All she knows is ruination in the ton.

There is only one reason Gideon would leave Sybil and that secret comes tumbling out leaving him no choice but to go and face the past.  When he returns a year later, he is hoping Sybil will have him back.

The love between the two is very evident in the fact they both do whatever to see the other.  They both will risk everything to be together. When Gideon finally comes clean about why he was gone and then Sybil’s brother comes crashing in on the couple, we get to see the real love dynamic at play.  They are both willing to do anything to keep the other safe but also hope to salvage their love.
