#wotr #attendingauthor #seriesstarter Perfect Risk (Mason Creek 1) by C.A. Harms

Mason Creek, Montana is my home. It always has been and truth is, there is no place like it.

I can hide away in a big city, pretend as if I’m not drowning. I can ignore the sadness inside my heart that is begging for a change. But if I’m being honest, my sense of belonging has disappeared. I thought I wanted the big city life, the fast track and all the glamorous things. Turns out, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than home.

Coming back to help run my mom’s business gave me the perfect escape.

But there is one problem.

An unresolved past has a way of haunting anyone. Things can sure get complicated when the man that broke your heart all those years ago is now your new landlord.

It may get a little messy, I may regret my decision to stay…
But then again, this might just be the Perfect Risk.

Review by Twinsie Dee

i bought this book here is my honest review

Sadie had enough of the big city life and once she got the call that her mom broke her hip, and she found her boyfriend cheating on her that was all it took for her to pack up her and head back home to Mason Creek. Moving home brought excitement and joy it also brought back the memoires of high school and bring made fun of for being dumped and humiliated by the high school quarterback Wyatt Murphy who was now the town deputy. Wyatt first found out that Sadie was back in town when he ran into her spilling her coffee all over the front of her, and then Sadie found the perfect cottage to rent not reading the fine print that Wyatt was the owner. Will these two leave their past in the past or will they make it awkward in town, it could be the risk that they both need to take. omg this is the perfect book to introduce someone into the best town that is Mason Creek.

C.A. Harms is an avid romance and mystery reader. She’s always had a love for books, getting lost in writing and storytelling even as a young girl. She enjoys happy endings and HEA love stories.

She lives in Illinois and enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She holds an addiction for Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha’s and KitKat when she should really be focusing on water and maybe a fruit or two to make herself feel less guilty, but that feeling quickly passes…thankfully.

She is easy going, fun, and although she may seem like one of the quiet ones at first, you just wait until she gets to know you better…that quietness changes, fast

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight #eventsponsor – Molly McLain

Molly McLain

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Molly McLain. I write steamy small-town romance with blue collar book boyfriends. I also live in a little town in Wisconsin with my husband of 22 years. Our three kiddos are all adults now, but I’m still in denial about that.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones that come after! I like to change things up, so sticking in the same series, town, family, etc. is sometimes a struggle for my ever-bouncing brain!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to incorporate tropes or situations that I haven’t written before.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Just keep writing. Stay off social media and make writing the words your number one priority ALWAYS. Do I do this myself? No. But I should, and not doing so is my biggest regret as an author.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

An hour or so. I have a day job, too, so writing isn’t always my number one priority.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Right now, no. I love them all, especially as I’m writing them, but I can’t say that I favor one over the others at the moment. They’re all special in their own ways.

What is your definition of success?

For me, it’s living a simple, comfortable life with peace of mind and a full heart. I want to know I’ve accomplished my goals and that I’ve done a good job as a mom, a wife, a friend, and an author.

Cassandra Featherstone

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Cassandra Featherstone has been writing since she could hold a pencil.

She is passionate about literacy, but when she picked up her laptop to write her first published novel in March 2020, she focused on subjects that not only spoke to her soul, but affected many of the women she’d met throughout her twisty life path.

Bullying, PTSD, body dysmorphia, mental illness, reinvention, and claiming your space are frequent themes in her books, as well as respectful, non-fetishized representation of LGBTQIA+ relationships.

Cassandra lives in the Midwest with her computer geek husband, artsy college goblin, an author dog, and five cats that Loki himself spawned. Her works include sci-fi fantasy/urban fantasy, paranormal, humorous, and academy whychoose with characters over eighteen. Her books never include non-consensual elements, but feature accurate, safe depictions of BDSM and kink lifestyles.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first! I have to learn their voices.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to make sure I’m not falling into a trap of not moving the plot enough— pacing it to make sure they don’t feel like they’re waiting around for things to happen.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Pick and choose what to give your energy to. Do not do everything just because everyone is. Cutting things out that weren’t helping me was a goddess send this year.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Four to eight hours depending on if I work my day job.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Ughhhhh why choose? I love them all so much. I usually have a secret fave in the family group though.

What is your definition of success?

Being able to support myself without the evil day job 😉

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – J. Lawson

J. Lawson profile image

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Jackie Lawson. I write under the pen name J Lawson. I’m originally from the Quad Cities; more specifically, Davenport, Iowa. I moved to the Peoria area 15 years ago. I have a master’s degree in English Literature from Western Illinois University. I’ve loved reading and writing ever since I can remember and I published my first book in 2019 with another following each year after.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I’d have to say the others after. There isn’t really a whole lot different about writing each book, except I hate having to recap the previous books at the beginning of the following books. I’ve read a lot of them where they go into far too much detail about the first book and I’ve read some where they don’t go into enough detail. I feel like finding that sweet spot is the hardest part.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Finding a balance between the book being plot driven and character driven is a great way to keep things fresh. If you stay character driven, after a few books you’ve exhausted a lot of their story and they either have to keep having exponential growth (which, I’m sorry, feels unrelatable, unrealistic, and exhausting) or the focus has to shift. When you switch the focus between the characters and the story itself, that gives you more time to develop both and keep things fresh.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

I know a lot of writers have multiple projects going at once. I can’t do that myself because I get mixed up and things begin to run together. I have, however, found that if I’m getting burnt out on a project or I’m getting stuck, journaling helps me with that. I can focus on something completely unrelated, or I can hash out the issues I’m having in a journal and sometimes I will “talk” myself into a solution through the journaling process. Don’t be afraid to step away when you need to to re-center.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

As much as my mental capacity allows. I’ve found that it’s important not to force my writing. Writing has been a catharsis for me for so many years that if I force it when I’m not feeling it, I can become resentful of it. I never want that to happen. So there are days where I’ll write for 6 hours, and then I won’t write again for several days. During the several days off, I’ll often jot down notes or ideas or things I think about, and then there comes a day where things just click and I can write out everything I’m thinking or have thought of on the days off. It’s my personal process.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Ooooo, this is a brutal question. It’s like having to choose a favorite child. In my Amulets Trilogy, I think Mama Landry will always be a favorite. There’s so much to her, yet she’s quite a secondary character. I’ve always kind of found myself drawn to secondary characters who you want to know more about. She’s definitely that. So much so in fact that I plan on doing a prequel to the trilogy that will focus specifically on her and her story. For my new paranormal fantasy series, Peculiar Lessons, I think it’s Professor Cessair, simply because, again, he’s not the main focus, but he’s a driving factor in the story. And he’s so out of touch that it’s fun to bring comedic relief to a series that can become somewhat heavy.

What is your definition of success?

Reaching a goal. Period. End of story. If you simply wanted to get out of bed today and you did, success. If you wanted to clean and all you got to was wiping down the counters, success. If you wanted to write five pages and you did, success. I find a lot of people get bogged down in the details or try to assign a “level” or “degree” of success and that’s not a thing. If you did what you aimed to do, you succeeded. People can write amazing things but then focus so much on whether they think it’s “good enough” that they never get to enjoy the success of accomplishing the goal. Just having done it is incredible!

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I think it’s important for writers to write what THEY want to read. So many times a writer gets focused on writing what they think OTHER people want to read, and it will never come across as genuine as writing to one’s own heart.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight #eventsponsor – Nikki Leigh

Nikki Leigh

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I absolutely adore writing, even the editing! Gasp, I know shocking huh? Now to the fun stuff… I’ve been happily married for 32 years to my wonderful supporting hubby. Without his love and support I probably wouldn’t have made it this far. When we’re not touring the United States between our signings, you’ll find us in our other favorite spot… camping!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first, by far!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I keep things fresh by trying to visualize how I’d like to read it and by coming up unique twists and turns the readers don’t see coming. My pocket editor is great for helping in this particular area.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take your time. It’s not a race. Take time for yourself, do the things you enjoy. And when it becomes too much, step back even if it’s only for 30 minutes. Remember our books don’t write themselves, contrary to some readers’ beliefs! We’re good, great even but the master has to be in peek performance to obtain greatness.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I spend on the average 10 plus hours writing and editing.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Ethan. He’s in my first series. He’s special to me because even with all the lies he uncovers that his father has hidden from him he still manages to show his love for his family.

What is your definition of success?

Holding each one of my book babies in my hand. Even if no one liked them (which I pray never happens) the fact will always be that I busted my butt off and brought my story to life and the proof is in my hands.

#wotr #attendingauthor #standalone The Panty Plot by Tori Ross

Laney Wyatt has problems. She’s just been fired from her brand-new paralegal job. To make matters worse, her student loans are coming due and her medical bills from a past skiing accident are piling up.

When Laney learns about a website where she can sell her dirty panties, she initially laughs it off as a lark. But it’s no lark when she starts making hundreds of dollars a week and has more than enough to pay her medical bills and rent.

Too bad Milo Coulson, her old crush from high school and her brother’s best friend, finds her page and buys her underwear for his own naughty use…

Review by Twinsie Dee

i bought this book and here is my honest opinion.

Someone needs to take a cold shower after reading this book. Laney just got fired from her job and can barely pay her half of the rent now. her besties take her out to get drunk and they call her brother Landon and his super-hot friend Milo to come meet them at the bar. Landon and Milo will do anything to help Laney out, but Milo will do anything he’s always found her attractive, but lately it’s just hit him that she’s not just his best friend’s little sister but a woman. After a bit of a pity party Laney gets set up with a temp job with Milo’s help when one of his coworkers is about to have her baby. still needs more cash so she’s going to start selling her dirty panties online after her friend said it as a joke. Little does she know Milo is her biggest buyer after he overheard her 2 best friends talking about her profile on the site. but when both Milo and Laney finally tell each other about their feelings for each other will Milo’s obsession with her panties come between them or will it continue to be his dirty secret. Also, how will Landon take it when he finds out about his best friend and his sister. All the sexy time, talk and that time of the month are happening. You might want a fan on high to cool you off while reading this sexy, steamy book.

Tori Ross is the bestselling and award-winning author of steamy contemporary romance and romantic comedy. Her book, The Cuffing Season Contract, won the National Indie Excellence Award for romantic comedy, and she’s written several shorts, novellas, full-length books and serials. When she’s not writing, she runs a podcast called Sitting Here Reading Corn with Tori Ross and plays pickleball to get out of the house. She lives with her family and a hyper dog that needs extensive training.

T.S. Ankney

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

T.S. Ankney T.S. Ankney read her first romance novel at age twelve, when she snuck a book with a risqué cover out of a relative’s cabinet and read it at night under the covers with a flashlight to avoid getting caught relishing the “good parts.” She is a tiny blue dot in a big red state in the Midwest US and she loves a sad song, a happily ever after, and believes representation matters. When not writing, you can find TS streaming documentaries, reading new books by her favorite authors, or indulging in reality TV competition shows like Project Runway or Great British Baking Show.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I tend to write in series where the romantic suspense plot spans three or four books, so the first book is really important to set up the worlds and and start the mystery engine. But each book presents its own challenges.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Every character is unique so their story is unique. Staying true to them and getting readers on their side keeps it fresh.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Find what works for you and do that. There’s a lot of advice out there but it’s not one size fits all.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

4-6 hours.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I can’t pick just one! I love them all.

Being able to support myself doing what I love and to touch people’s hearts.

Beverly Ovalle

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Beverly Ovalle I first published in 2013 TEN YEARS already, yikes! I love paranormal romance and I read more than I write, lol. But that’s okay. I’ve two grown children, one granddaughter and the hubby still likes me.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Any writing is hard. I am not a creature of habit, so I have to force myself to sit down and accomplish something.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to make sure that each situation is different with my characters.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Make sure to take breaks when writing. Not everyone is a machine. Be happy if you get any words down. I’ve happily strutted away after writing fifty, lol.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to do a minimum of an hour a day. TRY being the keyword.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Each new book brings a new favorite character, so I guess I’m fickle. Right now it is Mara from my upcoming book Waking Tamara.

What is your definition of success?

Having someone enjoy what I wrote.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Teresa Gabelman

Teresa Gabelman

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Teresa Gabelman. I write paranormal romance. The Protector Series (Vampire) and Lee County Wolves (Shifter). I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestseller because I have the best readers ever. It’s all because of them. I love to read when I have time; I’m a huge gamer and just got my first PC gaming system (SWEET), and I have three dogs I absolutely adore. I have a very supportive family as well as a reader community that I call my chosen family.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones that follow for sure.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Making each character and storyline different but still (in a series) keeping to the main or overall storyline. (Did that even make sense?) LOL! Adding new characters for readers as well as myself to look forward to in future books.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t give up when you want to give up, and believe me, that will definitely come. Find a good support system you can turn to when you want to smash your computer into a million pieces. I have a great group of ladies I turn to, and they are amazing. They tell me to hush, get over it and write. LOL! Sorta kidding. Seriously, an amazing support system or person is the key. Everyone needs to vent during those stressful times. I also cuddle with my dogs…a lot. Finding a snuggle buddy helps tremendously.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Depends on deadline time. During the end of a deadline, I am pulling all-nighters. When deadlines are not looming, I usually write, rewrite, listen to, and edit four to five chapters a day, depending on what is happening with the life stuff. That doesn’t always happen, but it’s the goal.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

It has to be Steve. He’s a hilarious Warrior who never shuts up and is always in trouble, especially with fellow Warriors. Readers often ask me where I come up with his lines; honestly, I have no clue. They just come, and for an author, that is so refreshing when you have a character that happens with. His banter with other characters even has ME laughing, which is welcomed when I’m stressed to the max. So yeah, Steve is my go-to character.

What is your definition of success?

My definition of success happened to me with book one of the Protector Series when I made my first sale. Before I published Damon in 2011, I told my husband and son that if only one stranger bought my book, I would have successfully become an author. I will never forget the day I sold my first Damon ebook to a complete stranger. I wish I knew who that stranger was so I could hug them because that was a dream come true for me.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Thanks to all the readers who support us by reading our books. You’ve made a lot of dreams come true. We couldn’t do what we do without every single one of you.

Jessa Aarons

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi. I’m Jessa Aarons.
Oh my, talk about myself… I’m horrible at this LOL!
I’m a Midwestern girl at heart and have lived here my whole life. I was born in Green Bay, WI… Go Pack Go… but moved a smidgen south and have lived in the same south-eastern city since I was two. In fact, I currently live only 4 blocks away from my parents. I really moved far!
I’ve been married to my hubby, who I call Mr. J, for 7 years. We’ve been together for 12 years. He’s the reason I started writing books. He’s been my biggest cheerleader since day one, and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without him. He’s seriously the best!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Definitely the ones after it! When I started my Rebel Vipers MC, I had so many characters wanting to talk, that picking the first was easy… bok one’s story was plotted in mere days. After that, things went wonky for a bit. Because all the “others” wanted their story’s told too, I’ve juggled my writing order around so many times, I couldn’t tell you what my original series order plan was anymore.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Mostly by having a different trope for different books. One of my characters was a single dad, another was a commitment-phobe, and even another a enemies-to-lovers type. By switching things up by story style, even in one series, you could keep things fresh and fun!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t rush yourself! I’ve been there, and I crashed. It’s so easy to compare yourself to other authors out there, and wonder why they’re doing “x, y, & z” better than you. Don’t! Write for you. Go at your pace. Write the stories you want to read. Being an author should be fun, you got this!

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Some days zero minutes… others, fourteen hours LOL! But when I’m in book mode, I usually aim for word count instead of time. I’ve had it take ten hours to write five thousand words. And the next day I can do that many in four. It depends on how “agreeable” the characters are in telling me their story.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

So far I’d have to make it a tie. Smoke and Haze, from book 4 in my Rebel Vipers MC series was so much fun. It’s a MMF story, about their journey to not only accepting their own sexualities, and their new places in the MC and newly patched Brothers, but also in finding the right woman to fit into their relationship. There’s angst and danger and so much love in this book, I didn’t want the story to end. I probably could write them 3 more books!

What is your definition of success?

Success to me is when readers want more. More books, certain characters to get a story… just more. If they want more from me, that to me means they like what I’ve done so far, and it means I’m doing something right.
