Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I am a GIANT fan of this series.  I think each of the male characters become my favorites and Draven is no different.

Marla, we know through the series, but you don’t need to know the complete series to read this book.  However, why wouldn’t you!!  Remember I love each character and couplings.  If paranormal is your jam you need these books.  Ok back on track of the review.  Marla is the adoptive momma to a couple of orphan shifter pups.  Her entire world and reason to live is these pups.  She wants to make sure they are loved and feel safe with her.  She never had that with her own mother.  She is healing her childhood trauma with the twins.

Draven is a friend of the pack and had been around.  He is the 2nd oldest vampire ever.  All of a sudden, he feels a weird attachment to Marla…the shifter he has known for a while as she works for his buddy Sterling.  Draven is well past the age to find his Fated Mate but then he gets the “feeling” when he is near Marla. He will do anything to show he is a good, safe man even though he is a vampire.

Draven is the best man and perfect for Marla.  He is calm and willing to wait for her.  Marla is the perfect mate for Draven.  She has so much strength and can handle the coven’s drama for her mate.

This story was soooo good.  I loved the drama of what is happening with Draven’s coven and the pack. Having people come and try to take the twins but having Draven’s coven all out of disarray made for a lot of twists and turns.  I mean every time I thinks something would happen BOOM I was wrong and was like DAYUM!!

The story was such a great read.  I devoured it and would have finished in a day but dang it I had to do adult responsibilities and couldn’t.  However I got it finished in under 2 days.

Mother to two teenage boys, 2 four legged babies, and wife to a loving army veteran who doesn’t mind the extra voices in her head. Miranda grew up on a dairy farm in Illinois, but calls Portland, TN home now. She is an avid reader, coffee addict, wine lover, crafter, and beginning quilter. Though her true passion is in creating her own worlds, characters, and stories for her readers.

#Review #Horror – Be My Friend by Mique Watson

On March 14, 2010, 16-year-old Jacob Stewart vanished.

In the weeks following his disappearance, strange interactions he’d had with a mysterious online figure also known by the name Cronos came about.

This document is a collection of interviews, computer files, public news reports, and online speculation, as well as copies of Jacob’s online interactions with Cronos that were obtained via the Freedom of Information Act.

What we hope to accomplish by bringing this case to light is to reignite the desire to find Jacob and Thomas … because they could still be out there.

I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to this book. This is quite different for Mique and I can now officially say that I’ve read everything he’s published. I’m super proud of this by the way.

This book was written in an interview sort of way and I really liked that style. Maybe I just have a vivid imagination but I could picture myself sitting in the interview with the characters. Either at a police station or in their home. It was a unique way of writing the book, so kudo to Mique for doing it this way.

Now first I’ll say that this is not an extreme horror. But man…I’m not sure what’s worse. Extreme horror with all the gory bloody details or this type that’s depressing and just sad. Oh so sad.

Jacob is lonely. Man is he lonely. I wanted to reach into the pages and give him a hug. His dad passed away and his mom ignores him. His older brother is off doing his own thing and living his own life, so Jacob feels like he has no one. Which technically, he doesn’t. Not in the way he needs.

He finally ends up on this online chat and meets Cronos. I got icky vibes from him right away. Jacob did not and that made me sad. He just wanted a friend. He wanted someone he could confide in. Someone who loved him. He was awkward and shy and anti-social. He had a hard time talking to anyone really. I can’t say I blame him for that. Especially when he tries voicing his thoughts and all his mom does is yell at him.

Jacob ends up finding what he needs in Cronos. After chatting for a few weeks, things get weird. Really weird. And outright disturbing. Cronos has Jacob doing things to make him feel better and to help him heal. But these aren’t your ordinary type stuff. No. It’s dark web crap. It’s called The Blue Whale Challenge. – I looked it up and from what I found quickly on Google, it was a TikTok thing back in 2016.

Jacob ends up going missing and the whole book is about trying to find out where he is. You find out. Sort of. Not in the way people wanted though.

I have to say that this is my favourite non-extreme horror book of 2024 so far and I can’t wait to see what else Mique comes up with.

#Review #ExtremeHorror – Them by Mique Watson

Jeanette thought she’d get to enjoy the cozy, rainy evening after the hellacious week she’d just endured.

Snuggled up on her couch with her Labrador, Nico, everything seemed perfect. Rest couldn’t come sooner.

Then it happened.

The program on the television cut to black.

EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM.

Jeanette’s heart stops. The signal is choppy, yet the message is clear: “They look like people.”

And then the power goes out.

Someone knocks on the door. It is soon made clear to Jeanette that the world she once knew has ended. The place she once called home is now anything but. The world beyond the threshold of her door is a passageway to the deepest bowels of hell itself. Will she survive?

This book started out as a slow burn type horror novel and then when the horror stuff finally happened, it was like a slap in the face. I knew going in that this book was extreme but I wasn’t expecting what I read. Did I love it? Yes. Of course. Not sure what that says about me though.

Jeanette intends to have a quiet night at home with her dog and then suddenly, her world changes for the worst.

Like Mique’s other books, the scenes in this one are detailed, gruesome, and not for the faint of heart. If you like creepy, maybe alien type people who do things that are…awful doesn’t even begin to describe what they did, then this one could be for you.

This book was also beyond gory, which I feel like Mique likes challenging himself and making his gory scenes that much more…well…extreme.

This one is a fun little read and it definitely has some disturbing parts to it.

Now onto the next one!

4 Stars

My eyes burn from crying. This was a rough one. I was emotionally invested from the moment these 2 met. Despite knowing the inevitable was going to happen, I kinda just hoped for a miracle.

Lyssa and Scarlett are both bat shit crazy. Maybe that is what made them such a perfect pair. I mean, there’s no need to mince words, these women are both violent assassin’s. With that being said- violent assassin’s need love too.

Secrets and lies eventually catch up with you, no matter how much you try to ignore or outrun them. Well, Scarlett and Lyssa find that out the hard way. I guess I’m perfectly okay with them choosing the angst filled route to eventual happiness because, lez-be-honest, the craziness made the sexy time that much more hot!

These 2 are made for one another and I refuse to accept the ending. Lol I’m hilarious, like I have any control over it. This is not a choose your own lesbian adventure. I’m so happy book 2 is has been released. I shall start that now so I don’t sit here dwelling on things…

Persephone Black likes Ice Queens who melt behind closed doors, Underworld Empresses who protect what’s theirs, and Bad Girls who stay bad to the end…but win the love of a good woman.

If that sounds enticing to you too, you should read her books. Villains are (anti)heroines and danger is an aphrodisiac in Persephone Black’s thrilling Sapphic Mafia romance novels.

Nestled in the shadows of the Mori Forest lies The Ivy Institute. It may look like something out of a fairytale, but if the rumors are true, it’s where nightmares reign.

i was given this book by the author for an honest review

Last week I received my invitation to The Ivy Institute to train with all the others like me or so I’m told, my father got greedy and used me as his cash cow. I was almost unstoppable so when I got my invitation I was dreading it. al the Ivy Institute we were the elite from witches, vampires, shifters, healers and almost any kind of supernatural being you could think of now I was one of them, at my new home where I hope I would learn about my powers and hopefully survive. in a new place where I’m granted privacy and respect, I’m not sure what to do with it but I’m hoping they too aren’t taking advantage of me. this was a great read it started out a little slower for me, but I had just finished a different genre, so it took me a while to get into it but once it picked up for me it was fantastic as usual.

Albany lives in Michigan where she’s happily married to her high school sweetheart. She spends most of her time juggling her four children’s extracurricular activities, with her nose stuck in a book. When not reading you can find her writing her very own book boyfriends. Albany’s passion is writing romance with real characters that are far from perfect, but always seem to find their own happily ever afters.

Meg and Michael wanted some time alone with Michael house sitting for different coworkers, and Meg being at her parent house there was no time for just them. Well one rough ferry ride to Meg’s aunts’ cabin is just what they needed. A tropical storm, being surprised by Meg’s entire family at the cabin they were all trapped together still not alone, stuck on an island with a bunch of bird watchers, a grumpy unwelcomed homeowner, and a dead body what else could go wrong. Sometimes wanting to get away can be a bigger pain then staying put. also, who spots the most puffins on the island. this was such a interesting and hilarious read the birders just make it that much funnier.

#Biography #audio – Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology by Leah Remini

The outspoken actress, talk show host, and reality television star offers up a no-holds-barred memoir, including an eye-opening insider account of her tumultuous and heart-wrenching thirty-year-plus association with the Church of Scientology.

Leah Remini has never been the type to hold her tongue. That willingness to speak her mind, stand her ground, and rattle the occasional cage has enabled this tough-talking girl from Brooklyn to forge an enduring and successful career in Hollywood. But being a troublemaker has come at a cost.

That was never more evident than in 2013, when Remini loudly and publicly broke with the Church of Scientology. Now, in this frank, funny, poignant memoir, the former King of Queens star opens up about that experience for the first time, revealing the in-depth details of her painful split with the church and its controversial practices.

Indoctrinated into the church as a child while living with her mother and sister in New York, Remini eventually moved to Los Angeles, where her dreams of becoming an actress and advancing Scientology’s causes grew increasingly intertwined. As an adult, she found the success she’d worked so hard for, and with it a prominent place in the hierarchy of celebrity Scientologists alongside people such as Tom Cruise, Scientology’s most high-profile adherent. Remini spent time directly with Cruise and was included among the guests at his 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes.

But when she began to raise questions about some of the church’s actions, she found herself a target. In the end, she was declared by the church to be a threat to their organization and therefore a “Suppressive Person,” and as a result, all of her fellow parishioners—including members of her own family—were told to disconnect from her. Forever.

Bold, brash, and bravely confessional, Troublemaker chronicles Leah Remini’s remarkable journey toward emotional and spiritual freedom, both for herself and for her family. This is a memoir designed to reveal the hard-won truths of a life lived honestly—from an author unafraid of the consequences.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audiobook.

I have to say I have been very interested in listening to this book for a while now but kept finding other books to read.  I finally decided to take the  plunge to see what this book was all about.  I am very interested in what you hear about Scientology and the why’s of this religion.  So listening to Leah’s story of her introduction to it all the way through her leaving it was pretty fascinating.  As someone who is not extremely religious the thought of spending so much time dedicated to church was enough for me to say NOPE.  LOL But I thought Leah did a great job breaking it down to explain the devotion people have to the church and fellow members.  I really did like the insight to what she said about the way the church operated and functioned as a business vs a church at times.

I am not going to lie hearing her thoughts and opinions about famous celebrities and their ties to the church were very interesting.  I mean some of the things she said about certain people didn’t seem, to me, to be inaccurate.

If  you are a fan of Leah’s you might read the book for her brash personality (which I loved because it is so me) but others might read it for the inside “scoop” about the church and LRH.

Leah Remini is an actor, producer, and #1 New York Times bestselling author. #WOTR24 #Sports #friendstolovers #audio – Aiden, San Francisco Shockwaves Book 2 by Samantha Lind

It took just one look and I knew she was meant to be mine.

Her body language told me she was onboard, but my job had her slamming on the brakes. She was convinced professional athletes had a puck bunny in every city, but that was far from the truth.

I agreed to be her friend for now……but how do I make her see we’d be better as lovers than just friends?

I purchased this audiobook.

I love Samantha’s books.  They are a great look at sports characters, but they are also “real life” and the just glamorous looks at the life of a sports figure.

This is book 2 in the series, but you don’t necessarily need to read book 1, when the couple meet, to follow the story.

Tori goes with her bestie to hang out with her boyfriend Ryker when she meets Aiden.  She is enamored with him, but he is a sports player…and player in many versions, she is sure.  Tori is good for flirting but not committing to a player.

Aiden things Tori is amazing. He is wanting so much more with her and is going to do all he can to prove he isn’t the manwhore she things he is.  Friends is the way to prove he is a good guy and the guy for her.

I loved the story.  I think they are both so relatable with their flaws and faults.  Tori was a bit stubborn because of her past but Aiden is right there to be the man he knows she needs.

I really loved this story and had it listened to for almost a day.

i was given this book by the author for an honest review

Small towns don’t always allow you to run away from your past or problems like most think they will. Declan was one of those people after resigning from his job after his brother got killed, Magnolia Grove was his fresh start or so he thought. Til he was confronted by his new neighbor yelling at him to quiet down and let her relax. Judging a book by the cover Declan thought Ayla was just a normal small-town woman relaxing at home next to the pool while her husband brings home the paycheck for her to spend. Fact Ayla is the town dentist after graduating from dental school and her dad handing the practice over to her, but Ayla had one day a week off from work where she can relax and decompress, and the rest of the neighbors knew that, so they respected her quiet. Declan wanted to keep his past pushed down but Ayla wasn’t one to let that happen, she was going to keep pushing to knock those walls down or will Declan keep adding brick by brick to those walls. will Ayla be the key to help Declan through his past trauma or will it cause him to self-destruct. omg this was such a great read, and I couldn’t put it down, the mystery behind it while the small-town love perfect combination
