#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – J.M. Madden

J.M. Madden

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Jennifer/ JM. I am a former cop turned romance author! Lol! I started publishing in 2010 with small epubs and now, almost 40 books later, I am completely Indie. I LOVE writing and highlighting diverse heroes.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I need a steady table and preferably a pumpkin cold brew beside me. It can be noisy or quiet. My favorite place of all to write is on my deck with my leg heater running!

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting readers that have had no other chance to meet me, and getting their insight into the books!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’d LOVE to buy Ilona Andrews a coffee! Or Marjorie M Liu. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet several of my unicorns!

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I TRY to write every day, but I end up writing in spates. I’m a little odd in that I write on several different manuscripts at the same time. Some days are business days, others are writing days on several different books.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Destin, Florida, several years ago, I had a group of readers show up in matching purple T-shirts highlighting my books!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have books that I know I’ll never part with, several signed. I don’t prize one over all others, though.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Jessica Marin

Jessica Marin

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hello Twinsie Girls! I’m Jessica Marin, and I write contemporary romances with alpha males, strong females and all the feels of laughter, angst and love. And you bet my books end with HEAs because everyone deserves their happily ever after! If you love second chance romances, alpha males, enemies to lovers and friends to lovers, then my books are for you!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

Silence! LOL. I seriously get distracted very easily, especially by my phone. So it is smart of me to put my phone somewhere else, pop my noise cancellation headphones and get writing.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting the readers. I am a people person and love meeting new people.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Oh wow, tons! Anne Rice and Judith McNaught are my top two.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I have two young kids, so I try to write from 9 am – 3pm and then again after they go to bed or are doing homework. I also have a part-time job, so my schedule is quasi-consistent.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Best memory is my first signing and someone told me they read my book.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Jemima J by Jane Green. That is the book that I loan out to people who don’t read romance and it converts them every time. I just love everything about that book. All my signed paperbacks from other authors are prized possessions.

#WOTR20 #authorspotlight – Aspen Winters

Aspen Winters

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Aspen Winters, I have been publishing for almost three years, but have been creating my stories since I was a young teen. I may have an obsession with Stingrays and teas.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I adore Milki’s, a korean drink or fresh loose leaf tea…..I also tend to snack on raspberries and/or Hobnobs when i can get my hands on them.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

meeting new people, especially the readers that come out.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Besides, JK Rowling……probably

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I write everyday, I give myself a certain about of words or chapters for myself and I have to get that done.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Meeting some of my best friends because of becoming an author. I wouldn’t have met them otherwise.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

A simple stone necklace, because it belonged to my Grandma, who was the one who got me interested in reading and writing.

#WOTR20 #5YearFamily #authorspotlight – Jenna Jacob

Jenna Jacob

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m a crazy woman who lives in Kansas and writes steamy, panty-melting romance. I like music, food, camping, food, reading, food, traveling, food, dragonflies and coffee. *Grin*

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

1. – Coffee. 2 – Chocolate. 3 – Whatever I can find that I don’t have to take time to cook or warm up…usually potato chips. LOL There are six people, two dogs and a cat in my house at any given time, so the noice level fluctuates from total silence to the cacophony of a Super Bowl game touchdown. I hijacked the dinning room and turned it into my office when I first started writing, so Mr. Jacob put up some french doors that blocks out a bit of the volume. But honesty, I’ve learned to ignore most of it. I had to! LOL

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

The READERS!! OMG – I love reconnecting and meeting new readers. It’s the best thing in the whole wide world!!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’ve already met him… it’s Dean Koontz. But I’d LOVE to meet him again.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I write everyday, seven days a week, and have an established a word count for every story that I *must* hit each day. So if I’m absent from social media, it’s because I’m struggling to hit my word count and can’t come out and play with y’all.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The first time I was asked for an autograph. That totally blew my mind!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have a 1800-something cookbook that my husband’s Grandma gave me. The pages are old and yellowed and the spine is in terrible shape, but it’s definitely my prized possession.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Alison Bliss

Alison Bliss

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Alison Bliss is a best-selling, award-winning author of humorous, contemporary romances. A born and raised Texan, she currently resides in the Midwest with her husband, two kids, and their dogs. As the youngest of five girls, she has never turned down a challenge or been called by the right name. Alison believes the best way to find out if someone is your soul mate is by canoeing with them because if you both make it back alive, it’s obviously meant to be. She writes the type of books she loves to read most: fun, steamy love stories with heart, heat, and laughter. Something she likes to call, “Romance…with a sense of humor.”

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

When I’m working on a book, I need a comfortable chair and silence in whatever room I’m in. Unfortunately, I’m not one of those authors who can write to music or have it playing as background noise. It’s just too distracting for me, and I end up chair-dancing and singing way more than actually writing. For snacks, I usually grab some of my kids’ Goldfish Crackers or steal some of my husband’s Twizzlers. But anything that isn’t messy and won’t stick to my fingers or gunk up my keyboard will do.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love seeing all the familiar faces of the authors and readers I already know, as well as making new friends. As an author, I spend a lot of time making connections online through social media, and that’s great. But it’s nice to be able to see their faces in person and not as a thumbnail. You learn so much more about a person when you can see their expressions and hear their tone of voice.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’d love to meet Rebecca Zanetti in person because her books are always so much fun to read. I’m not usually much of a paranormal romance reader, but her Dark Protectors series is one of my favorites! She writes about alpha males who are protective, loyal, and even a bit bossy, and then she pairs them up with strong, sassy heroines who will challenge them and defy them in every way. It makes for great chemistry on the pages and a whole lot of enjoyment for the reader. Her books are an automatic one-click for me.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

When my kids were younger, I used to write every day and stayed on a familiar schedule. Now that they are older and involved in more extracurricular school activities, I find myself constantly on the go and my working hours have become much more erratic. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to balance family responsibilities with writing time. But the one thing I make sure I do is to work on the same days my husband does each week so that we always have our days off together. That way we can spend time together, do a family movie night, or play games with the kids, and I won’t feel pressured to get back to work.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

It’s so hard to choose just one since there are so many proud moments to look back on. Like when my dream agent first offered to represent me. The signing of my first contract. The release of my first book. Spotting my first mass-market paperback on the bookshelves in the stores. That moment my editor told me I was a bestselling author. When I received the phone call that Size Matters had won the 2017 Holt Medallion in Long Contemporary. But I would have to say my favorite memories are the ones I’ve made while attending WOTR for the past four years in a row. It’s my favorite event, and it’s something I look forward to every year!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have a lot of signed books from other authors, and I consider each of them to be prized possessions. But the books on my shelf that I cherish the most are my own. I hope that doesn’t come off any certain way, but I have to be honest. Like other authors, I work very hard to bring my books to life. Not only that, but I also give up precious time with my children and husband in order to write them. That alone tells of their extreme importance to me. I don’t give up time spent with my family for just anything. It has to be something that matters greatly to me. And my books do. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be an author. 🙂

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Jeannette Winters

Jeannette Winters

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi, I’m Jeannette Winters. I’m one of eleven children and my mother was an amazing storyteller to us. Although my stories are romance and romantic intrigue, I’d like to think I inherited her imagination and sense of humor!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

For me, I love to sit on my front porch with a cup of tea and my laptop. Once I start writing, any noise around seems to vanish as the characters come to life.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

There is nothing better than attending a signing and talking about our favorite book boyfriend, where he is an what he’s doing next… Really, they don’t ever leave us, do they?

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’d love to meet Nora Roberts…. I spent many hours reading her stories….

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I really try to keep to a writing schedule, but I am a grandmother of an 18 month old. He comes to visit often and I welcome each interruption. He calls me mem-mem, and reminds me of why I do all I do….

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Wow, there are so many wonderful memories, but I’d have to say that I traveled with my sister Author Ruth Cardello to a book signing. We decided to share a table at that one. Sharing such an event like this with your sister is something you don’t forget….

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Although I have grown so much as an author, The Billionaire’s Secret was the very first book I wrote. It is what started me on this beautiful journey where I have made so many wonderful new friends.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight #5YearFamily – Valerie Twombly

Valerie Twombly

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Valerie Twombly and I write smoldering vampires, fallen angels, dangerous demons and sinful shifters. I’ll give you a happy ever-after, but I won’t make getting there easy. I love chocolate and dogs. The most recent addition to my family is Cooper, an Aussie/Border Collie rescue. I live with my husband of 22 years in Northern IL

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I need to have music, but where I sit depends on my mood and my muse. If I’m writing in my firefighter series, then I need to have YouTube going. Hearing and watching firefighters do their job really helps put me in their reality.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Hands down meeting the readers. I also like taking time to check out the other authors at the event. After all, I love to read too!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Sherrilyn Kenyon. I think I might actually become speechless if I ever met her.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I write before I leave for work and at my lunch. Sometimes I get words in on the weekend. It all depends on if those people in my head are talking to me or not.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Hanging with Larissa Ione at a reader event. I’ve always been a fan of her Demonica series, but it was awesome to connect on a personal level. Every time I think “should I write that?” I think of her and press on. I still love her writing, but I now adore her as a person and friend.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Hmm. Actually, it’s one of my own books. Rescue Me is the second firefighter book I wrote, but the first where I really delved into firefighting. I wanted to put the reader at the scene and I did that with the help of a great friend who is a firefighter as well as some local guys. What makes this book special to me is the fact several firefighters have read it and thought it was awesome. Hey, I got guys to read romance! I call that a win.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – CJ Baty

C.J. Baty

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

C.J. Baty presently I live in Southwest Ohio, but I live part time in Seveirville, TN. I published my first book in 2013. Spending time with my grown children is a passion. And I’m looking forward to the day when my husband and I can fully retire and do some traveling. I’ve always been an avid reader, when I was offered the chance to write my own stories by an Indie Publishers I was shocked and thrilled. It has been amazing ride getting my stories down on paper and out into the world. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I have a mixed tape of nature sounds that I listen to most of the time when I’m writing. I love the sounds of a creek flowing or rain falling. My one go to drink is Diet Mt. Dew or coffee if I’m writing in the morning. I have several favorite spots to go to when I want to get away from my office. A local Waffle House where the girls keep my coffee cup full. A bagel/muffin place where my NANO group meets and my local library. It was recently refurbished and it’s an amazing place to work.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Authors! Readers! People! Books! What’s not to like? To be honest, the moments where I get to meet someone who loved something I wrote and they are as excited about it as I am. Also, fangirling over authors that I adore, that’s a definite plus as well.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

My unicorn author was Josh Lanyon! I by ‘was’ I mean I finally met her last year at the GayRomanceLit event. She and I were both signing authors. It was the most exciting moment for me. I was totally tongue tied but I’ll never forget it.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’m definitely a sit and go girl. If the words aren’t flowing, I’ve been known to pack up the laptop and tell my husband ‘be back later’. He knows I’m going to find someplace to inspire me.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My favorite moment so far, came at 2019 Writer’s On the River event. I finally got to meet a reader who had been following me for sometime now. We’d chatted on line and I knew I’d love her. She surprised me at the event but the sweet thing was so excited she was blushing and couldn’t speak. That touched my heart so much, but I was just excited to meet her.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have a signed copy of Josh Lanyon’s The Dark Tide (Bk 5 in the Adrien English Series). Meeting Josh and having her sign that book was amazing highlight in my life. I cherish the book and that memory.
