#Review – Lycan Her Mate (Paranormal Dating Agency Kindle World) by Bella Roccaforte

Lycan Her Mate (Paranormal Dating Agency Kindle Worlds Novella; A Wolf's Hunger Book 14)

Emma has always been shy and only attracts the worst type of men. With her best friend, Jenn, finding love and moving to another state, Emma feels very lonely. Maybe she needs professional help, and Gerri Wilder’s Paranormal Dating Agency is just what the dr. orders for a broken heart. Gerri has helped Jenn find her future husband after all, why can’t she work her magic for Emma as well?

Zane is a half-breed wolf with a bad reputation. His father was the Alpha of Duskmoon pack until he was challenged and killed by the sheriff, Ryland Breakwater. Believing the pack would never accept a half-breed like Zane as Alpha, he’s never challenged Ryland. As an outcast in his own pack he’s never searched for love. He just tries to stay out of trouble, even though trouble always finds him.

But the Hunger strikes and all bets are off. Zane has his sights set on Ryland and restoring the good name of his pack.

With a good woman by his side, will Zane be able to win the favor of the pack and strike Ryland down? Or will he allow the Hunger to consume him, dragging him down deeper into darkness?

Goodreads

“Fate is far more powerful than an angry wolf.” Soooooo, where do I start? Zane and Emma are opposites but are exactly alike in that they always attract trouble, lol! Emma meets Zane kind of by mistake when Zane makes sure she is safe after a small altercation at the bar. But Zane is a perfect gentleman and makes sure she gets in her car and leaves. This is where things start to get fun. Neither of them can stop thinking about themselves. Zane has no idea what’s going on. Emma’s friend leaves her the Paranormal Dating Agency card (that just doesn’t disappear) so Emma gives in to give it a try. These two crash together and stir it up! We get just the right amount of Alpha male, Bada** female, action and sexy time (wags eyebrows)! This is an easy quick read and just the right thing to get your blood pumping!

#Review – Blood Courtesans Boxed Set: Awakenings

Blood Courtesans Boxed Set by Michelle Fox

Darkly decadent and sinfully sensual. Enter a world where vampires are real and meet the women who become their blood courtesans. Come let the fangs slip into your throat and awaken you to a whole new life. A boxed set of ALL NEW stories in this popular series.

***This review is for Refrain by Susan Griscom***

Vampires! Yes! It’s so hard to take a vampire story and make it unique. I often find that there is a lot of monotony with them. But this is hardly the case for the Blood Courtesans. In this world vampires are real and out in the open. They are normal people like you and me but they drink blood…maybe they are not what you consider completely normal, lol! Neriza is our female lead in Refrain. She lost her parents in a horrible car accident and this accident has left her sister paralyzed. Neriza is the sole provider for herself and her sister along with taking care of her parent’s debt. She decides to apply to be a Blood Courtesan. She tries to do this quietly as her uncle doesn’t agree with vampires paying for blood. Basically she gets rented for sex and blood. She has a unique quality about her that makes her a bit more valuable and she is accepted right away. She is essentially “rented” by Lyric (through his assistant) so that she can go on tour with the band and keep him sustained. Lyric happens to be the lead singer of the band Crimson Rivers, also her childhood crush, also a total hottie with an accent! He wants her gone and gone ASAP!  She can’t figure out why so she puts all of her effort into getting him to keep her so that she is not in trouble with the Madame at the agency. As these two are learning to work together she gets some terrible news and finds that her dad was in the middle of some shady dealings, and here is where the real fun begins. Neriza and Lyric do form a friendship and confide in each other about their pasts. As things heat up both of their pasts come to the present and we find that the world may not be as large as we all thought. I can’t give you ANY more of the story without giving away tons of spoilers. The intensity between Lyric and Neriza with the witty banter is enough to make you want to read the book. But all the crazy twists in between are what makes this story amazing!

#WOTR – #Review – Halfway Drowned (Halfway Witchy #4) by Terry Maggert

Halfway Drowned (Halfway Witchy, #4)

Something is wrong with Carlie.

A magical storm. An ancient shipwreck. A hidden evil.
All three are tied together as Carlie must defend Wulfric against his past, which emerges after a raging storm tears across Halfway Lake.
When government agents descend on Halfway to investigate the mysterious shipwreck, Carlie discovers that all is not as it seems.

A thousand years old, the Viking ship holds bones. And secrets.
Not everyone went down with the ship. There were survivors, but they might be less than human. They cross paths with Carlie in a showdown that will bring her own secrets to light, for saving Wulfric came with a cost. Now, it’s time for her to pay.

Dive in with Carlie as she fights to save the one person she can’t lose.
Herself.

Goodreads

“The time for pure magic was past. It was time to bring out my b***hcraft.” Yep, this is Carlie! She is our resident witch of Halfway that has an incredible talent for waffles and has an amazing love for Vikings (hey Wulfric!).

If you have followed this series you know that Carlie is our resident witch of Halfway and she does not take kindly to “visitors” (the things that go bump in the night) wreaking havoc on her beloved town. Out of the blue a Viking ship surfaces in the lake and this brings all the visitors to gawk and the government to come investigate. Things aren’t always what they seem and Carlie is a pro at this stuff. However, this ship hits home for Wulfric and brings up his very distant past. While they are both trying to work through the craziness that this ship has brought on they are both battling other demons. Wulfric is dealing with his past and Carlie has to deal with her future. Carlie is a very strong and resilient character but is very down to earth. And her love for her town and family is ginormous! Include the craziness that they are dealing with and her snarky remarks and this story will have you laughing out loud and the next minute having you deep in thought trying to figure out the next move. This is one of those stories that will suck you in from the beginning and keep a strong witchy hold on you until the very end.

At the risk of giving any spoilers I am going to give you a couple of my favorite lines:

My words were lost in a rumble of thunder that shook the air in my chest. Raindrops the size of baked potatoes slapped against my skin in a constant, frigid pounding, driven by the vicious wind. The howling rain felt like a car wash run by sadistic gods, determined to scour off my skin.

I am many things, but my humanity and witchcraft would coil around each other like warring serpents until dawn, when I would ask and answer a power far greater than my own soul. The answer I was granted would determine nothing less important than the rest of my life, but the need to ask the question was overpowering. I could not go on without knowing, and for Wulfric’s sake – and my own – I would not be denied.

In other words, you must read this! P.S. Be sure to check all the covers out. They are some of my favorite!

#WOTR – #Review – Sterling (Black Mountain Pack Book 3) by Miranda Lynn

Sterling (Black Mountain Pack Book 3)

Feeling the need for a change, fox-shifter, Sterling accepts a mission in Texas to help a struggling pack’s club. The situation is worse than they thought when they arrive but when Sterling meets Reana he know he’s found he’s been given a second chance to have a mate . Too bad she doesn’t want one.

Reana is one of the few in her pack not effected by the black magic affecting them. When Sterling came to town, she thought he’d be the answer to their problems with the Resistance. She wasn’t expecting a possessive mate ready to settle down just when she’s ready to take off.

Time is running out and Sterling needs Reana’s help to save the pack before they’re forever trapped in this web of magic wreaking havoc on all their lives. But Reana isn’t sure she can accept fate and her mate, just as she’s ready to leave pack life behind for a life of solitude. Will Sterling change her mind and get his second chance? Or will Reana’s strong will keep them both from the happiness they deserve?

Goodreads

Yaaasssss! Love this!!!! I thoroughly enjoy the Black Mountain Pack series. Each book centers on a different shifter and Sterling got his shot! I love me some Sterling! One of the biggest things about his past is that he had a mate and she died. He is sort of in a slump with everything that has been going on with the pack and decides to take on a mission that takes him from his home and pack. Something is shady in another pack and there is a resistance that doesn’t want shifters mixing in packs. He and his crew go to infiltrate. Here is where we meet Rea. She is a waitress at a club but this club has got some serious restrictions. Low and behold she is a fox too!!!! And these two foxes want, no, they need each other. While Sterling and his group are in the middle of the turmoil of trying to find out what the issues are with this pack, Sterling is having a hard time keeping his mind off of Rea. Rea has had it ingrained in her that she can’t have a mate because leaving her pack will mean certain death. She tries and tries to maintain herself around Sterling but neither can help the undeniable pull. While they are orchestrating a strategy to take this shady pack down they have a budding relationship that is incredible to witness. The snarkiness that Miranda Lynn brings to the story along with all the action, and let us not forget the sexy time, really makes this story come to life. They are normal people who happen to be shifters. And they become the shifters that we love! Sterling is one of my favorites yet and I am looking forward to meeting the new members of the pack. Bravo, bring on the next one!

#WOTR – #Review – Shifter’s Pride (Spirit Walker’s Saga Thrillers Book 2) by Laura Hawks

Shifter's Pride (Spirit Walker's Saga Thrillers Book 2)

Detectives Shaw and Shade are more than your average crime solvers; they are Spirit Walkers.

When they catch a gruesome murder, they’re able to discern the killer has been active since the end of WW2 and the number of killings seem to be increasing in frequency.

They have one lead – Feather Woods – who appears to have known each of the victims. Is she being stalked or is she the culprit?

The detectives race to find out before Shade becomes the next victim.

Goodreads

This is a supernatural shifter thriller with some great history. This is book two in the saga but can be read as a standalone. I did not read the first but am incredibly intrigued to do so. At the very beginning we get some of the gruesome. There has been a murder and it was one of Feather’s best friends. Then another murder and it seems to be linked with Feather again. The detectives that interview her are shifters as well and know more of the history of Feather along with her brother, Raine. Ren, the lead detective, knows Feather from the 1800’s and soon Feather is reminded of who he is. Ren instantly wants to help Feather but his partner, Apple Shade, thinks Feather is the reason for the murders. This story goes back and forth between the 1800’s, WW2 and the present. There have been multiple murders over the past years that fit the same as these current murders. Now they are delving deep into the past to try and find the serial killer. While they are all investigating they find that they are all in danger. While they are leaning on each other some major feeling develop and then we get some sweet sexy time (wags eyebrows). But the way that this entire story unfolds, along with the back and forth from past and present, really keeps you on your toes. There are many twists and turns but at the risk of giving spoilers I am recommending this to everyone. It is very interesting and intriguing. This is a first for me from Laura Hawks but won’t be the last!

#WOTR – #REVIEW – Legend of the Raven (The Union Series 2) by Shawn Reilly

Legend of the Raven (The Union Series #2)

When Elle Ison finally flees from a five-year abusive relationship, she finds that freedom is still just beyond her grasp. She has no place to run, no money and no options.
That is until a band of mysterious, good-looking heroes come to her rescue, sweeping Elle up into the world of ani-shifts, humans with the ability to shift into animal form. Elle becomes mesmerized by the magic of their world—one she believed only existed in her imagination—and the mystery surrounding the Lake family. Especially the intimidating Asher Lake who is charged with leading the secret organization of shifters known as the Union, and the protégés left in his care.
Elle is lost and lonely—and wants nothing more than to be part of a real family, even one as broken and dysfunctional as the Lakes. But if Elle chooses to stay, she must bind herself all over again—this time by archival laws which dictate that she make a commitment to a man who has vowed never to fall in love. For Elle, this means forfeiting the one dream she has never realized.
Elle must weigh her options: should she give in and relinquish her right to dream of love…or will she leave the safety of Lake Manor behind, along with the family she has come to care for—and never look back.

Goodreads

The fates are at it again…or is it destiny?

“It’s hard living with the things I can’t change. I don’t want to see guilt and regret staring back at me in the mirror every day of my life.” Being afraid to live, to really live is, is a common theme in the Lake household. If you are reading this I hope that you have read Call of the Raven as the Legend of the Raven picks up right where we left off.

After the intense ending of the first book we are brought right into the madness that makes up the Lakes. We get to really get to know the Lakes and the protégés. Each one has their quirks and differences. Elle, however, is taking things in stride. She has more or less been given an ultimatum. It’s one that keeps her safe and taken care of for her entire life. But there is a contract involved between her and Asher. I am not one for giving spoilers but we are met with a tragic event at the beginning and this has all of them on edge. As time goes on we really, REALLY, get to know the characters and learn much more of the Union and Council. Plus we get to get inside Asher’s head! (swoon) Asher is the keeper who vowed to never love and not to fall in love so that he doesn’t get called by the raven to his certain death. Elle being in the picture now has changed everything. Asher is breaking. Elle is getting comfortable. And they are all coming together as a family. With Grant’s daughter in the home with them it seems that Grant has been visiting her. Now on the hunt for Mary’s mom and any clue on what Grant was doing to try and break the curse everyone has been on high alert. With the Gothi around, the Blackbirds, and traitor lurking around things get really intense.

One of my favorite things about the series so far is that this shifter story is not the same as any others I have read. They are ani-shifts that are normal people but with different laws and some pretty cool abilities. The world building is amazing and the characters….well the characters you fall in love with. Each one has their own quirks and issues. We all can relate or know someone that is similar to each and every one of them. The intensity with the twists and turns make this a page turner. I couldn’t wait to see what happened and have already started book 3. I am hooked!!!

When it seemed like I was only an F away from flunking out of the sixth grade, a retired schoolteacher took me under her wing. After some tutoring and testing, she informed my parents that the reason I was having trouble in school wasn’t that I was dumb but instead dyslexic. When my stepfather heard this, he decided to take me to a used bookstore with the belief that the best way to improve my reading skills was to read. Some of the books were hard to get through at first, but with his encouragement, I refused to give up. We made many trips to that bookstore, and I especially loved the science fiction and fantasy sections. Then one day, after complaining about the ending of a particular book, my stepfather told me that if I didn’t like the books that I had been reading, then to write one myself—so I did.

My first attempt resulted in a horribly written western when I was fourteen, staring a cocky gun-slinging cowboy by the name Curt Calhoun. Curt along with his seven brothers, who all shared C names in common, may never have seen the pages of a book, but that was the day I started writing, and never stopped.

She supports those with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and animal rescue.

#WOTR – #Review – Rust (King’s Harlots MC #6) by JM Walker

“An unexpected evil brings both the MC and Military world together in this brand new series by J.M. Walker”

His demons are loud.
Held captive within his mind, he does everything he can to forget his life before Vice-One.
As one of the newest recruits, his main goal is to have his “brothers” trust him and he’ll do just about anything to make that happen. Until one passionate night with Creena Chan, the military was all he had.

She’s hiding from her past.
A trained professional, she keeps that part of her life to herself. The darkness weighs heavily on her chest, mixing with the beats of her heart, caused by the one man she tries to ignore. Vincent Stone is nothing like she imagined. Months of flirting lead to an explosion she never saw coming.

Only when Creena and Stone’s limits are tested, do they realize exactly what they will do to find that peace their family and friends deserve.

Goodreads

“Love and pain. It was a toxic combination.” I am going to miss the King’s Harlots! This is not my normal genre but it is an epic mix of awesomeness! The series has gone from really good to oh my gawd amazing! Every book seems to get better and better. It has been a non-stop love/hate relationship that most definitely keeps you wanting more. Rust is no different. Although, I must say that Creena’s and Stone’s stories may be my favorite  . One thing that this series has given us is the raw and gritty. Well folks, it absolutely raw and gritty in the best possible way. I want to talk about the story but I know I will give away spoilers so that’s gonna be a no-no this time. They are both holding secrets, like major secrets that are gonna shake the Harlot’s and Vice One’s worlds. The back story of these two is intense. When Creena and Stone crash together things explode! It’s HAWT!!! It’s ACTION packed! It’s TWISTED!! It’s OVER!! (wipes tears from face).

In an effort to not spoil the story I will give you a couple lines that were my fave!

Sex with Stone came at a price. It cost me my sanity because all I could think about was him. My thirst for him was never quenched. It only made it worse. I could drink him up, feast on his body, and never be satisfied.

We crave that darkness but even after accepting its fate, it can still haunt us for years. Maybe even the rest of our lives. Sometimes people take advantage of that. Hire us to do their dirty work because they’re scared to do it themselves.

This is an incredible series with an equally incredible ending. Bravo, JM Walker! Get it girl!

#Review – Faye Magic (The Othala Witch Collection) by Jo Michaels

Faye Magic (The Othala Witch Collection)

**This is a standalone novel written in the world of Othala and may be read independently of the other books in the collection.***

Welcome to Sector Sixteen of Othala.

Prepare yourself. It’s a competition like no other.

Think: The Hunger Games meets The Selection.

The last one standing wins the man.

Meet Morgan LeFaye Woodenson. She has her life planned out. She’ll marry Sawyer, the love of her life, and they’ll run into the sunset to be nomads, surviving off the land, not reporting to anyone, free to live their lives as they see fit.

At least, that was the plan until the imprisonment.

When reagent Orinthal’s wife dies suddenly, Faye is forced from her home and thrown into an arena to compete with every other nineteen-year-old girl in Sector Sixteen for the highly coveted place at his side. If she doesn’t win, she dies; if she does win, she loses everything she loves.

Deception and ruthlessness fill her, and she’s determined to find a way to hold on to her dreams—even if that means becoming someone she never thought she’d have to.

Goodreads

What a great read! Just like the synopsis says this is sort of like a cross between Hunger Games and the Selection but full of magic and shifters. What more could you really want? Well I’ll tell you…tragedy, love, hate, and a great villain! Faye, along with all other 19 year olds are brought to an arena and are expected to fight to the death and the winner gets to marry the ruler, Orinthal. He takes a new bride every ten years but his current wife died. These girls have no say in being part of this or not, no choice. Faye has an incredibly hard time with this as she had a plan for her life. She makes friends with some of the other girls and has no idea how she will be able to kill them. But she plans to win so that she can take out Orinthal as well. The bonds that she makes with some of the characters before the arena become incredibly strong. Including a certain guard named Grant. They have no idea why but they have a magic pull to each other but can’t express this or they could be killed. Once in the arena Faye meets some beings that she thinks are monsters. But what she really needs to figure out is who the real monsters are and exactly who she can trust. She is constantly running in multiple directions trying to figure out what to do. Crazy twists and turns pop up and her long lost mother shows up with some crazy truths. I can’t give you much more as I do not want to spoil the story. It was nothing like I expected it to be. The world that has been built will pull you in and as the characters come to life you will not want to put this down. It’s action packed both magically, emotionally, and physically *wags eyebrows*. It’s a great spin and a must read!

Jo Michaels is…

Hi, I’m Jo. Let’s forget all the “Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah” stuff and just go with it. I’m a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.

I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I’m going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I’m married to. Along with my children, he’s my whole world.

I’ve lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I’ve had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I’ve written about in Yassa.

Goodreads

I cannot get enough of The Shifter’s of Kladuu series! This is the 5th book and although these can be read as standalones I highly recommend reading them in order as many of the characters come back throughout the series and there is a better understanding of exactly what the back story is on each one. The Draqon’s Brat is the story of Maxsym, the Draqon’s Hive Master, and Veronica Gideon, the spoiled debutant daughter of Captain Gideon of the Zynthar Space Station. Maxsym is a playboy from the hive and has defied orders and has infiltrated the Zynthar Space Station in hopes of assassinating Captain Gideon due to his dealings with the flesh trade (trafficking). Maxsym has been appointed the guard over Veronica and is hoping this will get him closer to her father, Gideon. Right from jump Maxsym and Veronica absolutely hate each other. Well, they really love to hate each other, LOL! There is an intense push and pull between the two. They are both hard headed and stubborn and the banter between each other is both fun to read as well as frustrating. At times you want to shake them both and tell them to get on with it! But this frustration is incredibly well written and necessary for the story. Veronica and Maxsym both uncover more secrets and cover ups that Captain Gideon is part of. They both need to decide if they are worth it for each other or if they need to part ways due to the different worlds they are from. The story is one of those that you will sit and read in one sitting and not even realize the amount of time that has gone by. Trust me, you need this series in your life!

This is a re-telling of Rumpelstiltskin, but a beautiful story nonetheless. Lena was a witness to a horrific event when she was younger but no one believed her about it. She later has a child but due to her paranoia she lives in constant fear. She has isolated herself and her daughter. One day her nightmares come true and her child is taken through the mirror. She gets help from a fae and she enters their realm. As she is learning about this other realm she finds things out about herself and the two men that are helping her. She uncovers many secrets but with these bring many more questions. She is falling for these two men but she also needs to find her daughter. The twist at the end really makes the story fall into place. The story overall is great but I found myself trying, too hard at times, to remember all the different types of magical beings that were being introduced into the story. I’m a sucker for Fairy Tales and this is another great one!

FANGIRL TURNED WRITER. SLYTHERIN SHADOWHUNTER FROM DISTRICT FOUR.

I’m fairly confident that I came out of womb reading the book. I’ve always loved stories in whatever medium they come. Books, movies, television shows… It didn’t matter. I didn’t discriminate (I still don’t!). It was only a natural progression that I become a writer myself.

I’ve been telling stories for as long as I’ve been reading. Even if it was just standing in front of my family acting out dramatic retellings of my day or making up stories of my own it didn’t matter. It was only a matter of time until I branched out into being a real writer and sharing my stories with friends and strangers alike. And you know what? It’s the best job in the world.

I write dirty, sexy stories about humans & their supernatural lovers. I grew up dreaming of being a Greek Goddess, not a Princess, so I wrote a book about it. In my Grace of Gods series normal humans find out they possess the souls of Greek Gods within them. They are whisked out of their lives and brought to Mount Olympus, thrust into the new and dramatic lives of their Gods.
