#Review – It seemed like a good idea at the time by Kylie Scott

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete had been left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years on, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back all those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

So I know people are calling this a taboo relationship and I guess maybe 15 years older is Taboo but our heroine is 18 years old soooo I didn’t see much wrong there.  I thought the taboo element was making a pass at your dads business associate…LOL  now THAT is a bit of a bad decision!!  The heart wants what the heart wants thought right???  ANND Adele wants Pete.

After Adele’s little slip up, we see her 7 years later and at her dad’s wedding.  FYI her dad was a scream.  He was so funny as was his new bride.  Great secondary characters for the story.    The complex relationship between Adele and Pete is explained in current and flashback scenes.  We see Pete dragging his feet at being with Adele at the same time wanting to be with her.  I seriously wanted to throat punch him a time or two.  The characters are so in their own heads that they are what cause so much heart ache and despair for themselves.

The story was well written and made you hurt for them both while also wanting to slap them upside the heads .

#NewRelease #Review #Contemporary #HoP House of Payne: Tag ( HoP Book 7) by Stacy Gail

Mysterious. Anonymous. Genius.
No one knows the identity of the famous urban artist known only as Tag, and that’s just the way Tag likes it. He got his start in one of the most gang-ridden neighborhoods in Chicago by anonymously tagging his world with beautiful graffiti, and that anonymity kept him alive. Sure, Tag’s work is now so hot it’s being turned into tattoos at the greatest tattoo studio in the world, House of Payne, but he’s still not going to reveal himself. To anyone.

Volatile. Passionate. Brilliant.
Artist Ivy Gemelli is the last of her family. Mother—dead. Father—shot in his cab for fifty bucks. Uncle and brother—murdered in the family’s auto paint shop, which was then burned down to the ground. She’s the last one standing in a never-ending struggle to just freaking survive, and it’s made her tougher than nails. That’s why, when she sees her own art show up in Tag’s designs, she’s more than ready to go to war.

Hot. Powerful. Irresistible.
Tag wasn’t looking for a sexy complication like Ivy, but that’s exactly what he’s got. Her murdered brother’s long-ago lie brought them together, but now that Tag’s got Ivy in his sights, he’s not about to let her go. Ivy is all fire and fury, and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep this sex-on-stilettos woman with him, even if he has to keep her in the dark about his past.

***This standalone, hot contemporary romance contains a strong alpha male, mention of the sexual practice of edging, and a spank or two (or three). There are multiple, explicit sex scenes (you have been warned). No cheating, no love triangles, no cliffhangers. HEA guaranteed. This book is not intended for readers under the age of 18**

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book.

It’s time to go back to my favorite Chicago Tatttoo shop House of Payne!!  Boy does Gail start this one off with a bang!!

Ivy isn’t about to let anyone steal her unique artist signature and she doesn’t care how famous he is.

Ivy is awesome!!!  She is a stuff as nails girls from a rough part of Chicago and has lead a rough life.  The one thing that has been there for her is her art, the thing that she has had all her life.  She might be small but she is mighty and takes no crap off anyone!!

Tag is a internationally known artist, will known as everyone knows the name and art, but no one knows who the mysterious artist actually is.

I love how Ivy and Tag are introduced!!  Talk about bearing it all for your art, lol.  She’s so talented and feisty I want to be her when I grow up.  I also love how when she learns the truth about something she owns up to her mistakes.

Tag, well I must say I must say he is no Max, however he ain’t half bad. While he is a artist that creates tattoo designs for the House he isn’t a tattooist.  He always goes after what he wants and after seeing Ivy he wants her.

While the way these two get together is not your average meeting, it certainly is fitting for two unique artist to come together in their own unique way.  No one else can say that they met the way they did.

The way the get to see where both Tag and Ivy came from and what they made of themselves is awesome.  It just shows you that you can be more than your surroundings.

I have never been to Chicago but Gail has a way of making me feel like I am there each and every time I read one of her House of Payne books and a way to make you feel like you are a part of the family that is the House of Payne.

I can’t wait to find out more about the new characters that have been introduced and see our old friends again in the next book!!

#NewRelease #Review #NewSeries #Shifter #SpinOff Mating Season (Morgan Clan Bears Book 1) by Theresa Hissong

Drake Morgan has kept his family secret from the humans for eternity, having no desire to put their existence out into the open like the other shifterkind. He lives a solitary life with his two brothers hidden on his farm deep in the backwoods of Northern Mississippi.

Every spring, their bears call to prepare their home for the arrival of a mating season. The search for their mates begins, and Drake has to rethink his disgust of humans when one of their females show up on his land, scenting of his destined mate. Morgan’s bear demands he keep her for himself, but he knows she will never accept his true nature.

Tessa Ward moved to this little town to hide from her abusive ex, taking two jobs to pay rent and put food on the table. Her position at the local parts store sends her into the heart of the country to make one simple delivery to the local farmer, Drake Morgan. Upon arrival, she is thrown into the world of the paranormal after one touch from the bear shifter and she finds out his true nature.

Mating season has arrived, and Drake is prepared to fight for the woman who is fated to be his bride. When his mate’s ex comes lurking around his sacred property, Drake will stop at nothing until his female is safe, even if it means killing a human…not that he cares for them anyway.

If you have read Theresa Hissong’s series Talon Pack you have met Drake Morgan.  He is a grouchy bear shifter that sticks to his land, loves his brothers which are his Clan, and hates humans.

Tessa Ward is new to the area, on the run from her abusive ex husband and not in anyway looking for a man, which is good since what she finds is a shifter. LOL

I do love a broody, bearded man and that is exactly what Drake is.  Yes his bear is after him to find a mate, however he does not agree that it has to be this little human.  Humans are bad and nothing you can say will change his mind.

Lol, the bigger and broodier they are the harder they fall.  Drake’s bear knows what he wants and he wants the lovely Tessa.

Tessa has been through some crap man, you would think that a man like Drake would scare her but instead there is something that calls her to him.  Even though Tessa has had it rough doesn’t mean she is a push over though, she stand up for herself when she needs too.

Drake are her really are meant to be,that Drake is a dominant in the bedroom  and found Tessa to be submissive is HOT!  I love how everyone sees how Tessa has a calming affect on the grouchy bear that he doesn’t.  However, when Tessa is threatened he is no where near calm!!!  She is also calmed by him.  Soul Mates!!!!

The way the bears are with their women is awesome and I can’t wait to see Drakes brothers find their mates.

Ever since that horrific night, I’d shut men completely out of my life. I’d gone from the spunky, fun, Alex DeMarco to a broken woman terrified of intimacy. What’s worse is my ex fiancé, Todd Livingston—the man who tore my heart in two—wants me back, and as much as I’d like to deny it, the feelings are still there.

Both men want what I can’t give—my body and my love—and neither are willing to give up the fight. But only one of them can unbreak this heart of mine.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Suddenly, being alone with Nick in the dojo has me nervous. I’m shifting my weight from foot to foot and not completely sure what to do with my hands. “Hey,” he finally says, offering me a small smile.

“Hi.”

“You ready?”

“As I’ll ever be,” I grumble, not really sure if I can do this.

Or if I should.

No, I definitely should. After what happened last week, a woman should know a few basic self-defense moves.

Nick heads over to the bench and unties his belt, dropping it on the bench beside my bag. Then, he strips off his white jacket.

My jaw hits the floor.

Unlike our time on the boat Monday, where he wasn’t wearing a shirt, this time he’s wearing a white tank top underneath, and if it’s possible, I think it makes him hotter. It hugs his very hard, very muscular upper body in a way that I’ve only read about in books. (Or saw one time when Linkin stripped for my sister, Lexi.) His shoulders…my word, his shoulders. The definition and muscles are like a work of art. Nick turns back to face me. “Is this okay? It’s hot.”

Yep. Definitely hot.

“Umm, sure. Whatever. Fine.” I know I try to sound casual, but really, it just comes out like a bumbling, blubbering teenager.

“Good. Now come here,” he instructs, and the tone goes straight to the apex of my legs (which are practically shaking, by the way). Why does it sound dirty?

“I’m going to show you just a few moves to help you escape an assailant. The first is an open hand strike. You’re going to use the heel of your hand to strike some of your assailant’s most sensitive areas,” he teaches, demonstrating the move. “Aim for the eyes, nose, mouth, or neck.” He stands in front of me and holds my hand, positioning it and showing me the correct ways to execute. “Here,” he adds, moving my hand to his face.

I can feel his breath on the palm of my hand as I slowly shadow his movements, practicing without actually striking him.

“Good. Now, if he comes at you from behind, your elbow is a valuable weapon. It’s hard, and when thrust into his face, neck, or stomach, you could definitely buy some precious time to get away.” He moves behind me and I immediately thrust upward with my elbow. He easily dodges the blow, as mortification tinges my cheeks.

“Oh my God, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to try to hit you, it just…was a reflex,” I insist.

“You’re fine,” he chuckles. “It’s good for you to actually practice the moves. Well, except this next one. No need to practice the knee to the groin. Just know it’s one of the most effective ways to disarm an assailant. If done right, your perp will be lying on the ground, crying for his mommy while you run away,” Nick teases, holding his hand over his…area.

Of course, my eyes drop down.

Why wouldn’t they?

He was just referring to someone’s…package.

“Yeah, no need to practice that,” I quickly reply, again a blush burning my neck and cheeks.

Is it hot in here?

“Let’s go over a few ways to block a punch or slap,” he says, showing me a few techniques using my arms and hands, before finally demonstrating what to do if the assailant gets me down on the ground.

Yep, I’ve officially lost my mind. I’m practically rolling around on the mat with Nick, who is trying to teach me moves that might one day save my life. And all I can think about is the way his arms feel when they wrap around me or the way his package brushes up against my thigh, not once, but five times.

Five.

Yes, I counted.

“Okay, that’s the basics. I want to do a few of them in a real-life situation. Stand over there, and I’ll come at you. I want you to take me down.”

“Wait, what? I can’t take you down. You’re…big.”

And, cue the blush…

Nick chuckles. “I’ll be okay, honey. Promise.” Then he winks at me, and my entire body seems to catch fire. “Ready?”

No. I’m definitely not ready for this.

Welcome to the small town of Haven, where the Grayson brothers live.  The hot, hot, hot Grayson brothers!!

Gina is awesome!!  She is a tough, no nonsense bar owner who is fighting her feelings with Nate.  She is bound and determined that this is only going to be a fling, no matter how much it hurts her heart.

Nate is totally in love with Gina, after all he did give her his virginity and she is a great person too, who cares that she is older than him.  When Gina’s life is in danger Nate shows age is northing but a number and goes to saves her.

This is why Jacob is one of my favorite authors, Revenge On The Rocks is a novella, however so much is packed into it!!!

Family looking out for family,  love, danger, and let’s not forget hot sex!!!!  I am sooo glad that there are more single Grayson brothers, because I can’t wait to come back to visit Haven!!

Nate had spent the day rotating the horses on the family ranch to ensure that each child attending Camp Melody—a respite for terminally ill and special-needs kids—would have a fresh mount. Though it was early April, the day was unseasonably warm. He’d worked up a hell of a sweat saddling, unsaddling, and grooming the steeds. When dinner was done, he’d been anxious to grab a shower and head into Haven. But brothers Nash and Noble had seized both bathrooms, forcing Nate to wait an extra thirty minutes to scrub the scent of horse and sweaty grime from his body.

It wasn’t until he hit town and pulled to a stop in front of the Hangover that anticipation and excitement replaced the lingering annoyance he’d felt toward his brothers. After pocketing his keys, Nate strode toward the bar, beyond ready to lay eyes on the sexy woman he’d been dreaming about all day…Gina.

But when he stepped through the door to find hiswoman wrapped in the arms of his twin brother, rage born of jealousy erupted within. As he watched Noble place a kiss on the top of Gina’s head, a fire of pure possessive rage thundered through Nate’s veins.

“Get your fucking hands off her,” he bellowed, eating up the floor in long, angry strides.

“Uh-oh.” A mischievous grin lit up Noble’s face, followed by a playful wink. “I think we’ve been caught, darlin’.”

Logically, Nate knew his brother was simply baiting him, and that Gina had absolutely no interest in his twin. Emotionally, none of that mattered. Noble had crossed the line and Nate was three seconds away from pounding his twin to dust. Nate and his five siblings had grown up teasing, tormenting, and ultimately beating the hell out of each other on a regular basis. He’d whooped Noble’s ass plenty of time and could damn well do it again.

“Caught? Caught doing what?” Gina blanched. She peeled out of Noble’s grasp, landing a sharp elbow to his ribs. “Get your paws off me, asshole! I’m not one of your bed bunnies. And get the fuck out from behind my bar.”

Nate was proud of his feisty woman for taking his dickhead brother to task, but he still wanted to beat the bastard ugly for touching her. Noble’s grin only widened as he hurried around the bar and sidled onto the barstool alongside Nash, who was smirking.

As if sensing Nate’s rage, Gina placed her hand on his chest to placate him before flashing him a gentle smile. “Would you mind hauling out another keg from the cooler for me, please?”

“You know I wouldn’t.” He narrowed his eyes at Noble. “Touch her again, asswipe, and you die. Got it?”

All traces of humor left the man’s face. He raised his hands in surrender. “I was just messing around, lover boy. No need to get your tampon stuck sideways.”

His muscles grew taut. Grabbing Noble’s shirt, Nate hauled him up off his seat. Fury rippled outward as they faced off, nose-to-nose. “Mess around with someone else. Gina’s off-limits.”

“Chill out, man. Christ, I didn’t mean anything by it.”

Nate released his brother with a powerful shove and an evil glare.

Nash let out a low whistle and slapped Noble on the back. “You just got shit on.”

“Shut the fuck up, or I’ll shit on you,” he countered, smacking Nash upside the back of the head.

Ignoring his idiot brothers, Nate exhaled a ragged breath before locking his stare on Gina. The rage inside him instantly melted, replaced by the fiery hunger of demand. She flashed him a carnal smile, then turned and headed toward the back room. As he followed behind her, Nate’s stare was glued to the sexy sway of her ass. He moved in close behind her, Nate cupped her tempting orbs in both palms. Once they’d made their way around the corner, Gina abruptly stopped. Pivoting, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed in tight against his chest. Nate’s cock roared to life as her hard nipples scraped the flesh beneath his shirt. Gripping her ass tighter, he slanted his lips over hers, rocking his lengthening erection between her legs, and swallowed her gasp.

With a tiny giggle, she pulled back. A provocative smirk tugged her lips. “I missed you today, too.”

Lifting onto her tiptoes, she pressed her lips to his.

Nate had kissed her a million times. Still, every time his mouth met hers felt like the first. Sliding a hand to her strawberry-blonde curls, he fisted her mane and tilted her head back. He saw her mutual need, raw and scorching in her pale blue eyes…could practically taste the desire pulsing through her system. It was all the incentive he needed. Pressing his mouth to hers again, he delved desperately past her lips and swirled his tongue deep inside her heated wet silk.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Man Oh Man.  #TeamGray alllll day long ladies!!  I claimed him in book #1 and I am still all day long loving him.  After reading this book if you are not on #TeamGray them I don’t think we can be friends…I mean…I totally dreamy sighed at him in a scene in the story…..yup dreamy signed.

Gosh so I don’t know how to do this review without giving away the spoiler of the guy who got cut …so I am gonna be a little vague on some of the specifics.

Spencer is still a raging dick and I hate him. I kinda wonder if Cat the producer is banging him anyway…..gross.

Gabe who I thought might be a cool dude kinda shows some not so good qualities about himself……????  Master Manipulator kinda like Spencer??

Thomas…still a raging douche canoe and I can’t stand him….Yeah when you get more info about him…gross and no thanks…..

Darius….Well Mr. Tall Drink of Water…..I really am wondering why he holds his cards to close to his chest and yet I really like him.  But I got the spider tingles at times and wonder what is really going on there???

*Que the birds chirping* Gray……Yup he is my pick,  If Jade tricks me and makes him some major under the covers asshat, I will be sending her major text messages and threaten to no longer be her friend!! LOL

Claire loses a guy in this book, guys have a challenge, and she goes on dates with the guys again.  When the books ends we are finding out who will stay and who might be leaving in the reality show………..

Seriously I loved this next book and m dying to see who stays and who goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” While you’re more likely to see Jade headbanging than Dirty Dancing, she–like Baby–won’t be put in a corner…or a box. So even though you can’t really stick her books in one genre, you could say she mostly writes steamy Contemporary Romance–and, while you’re at it, you’ll notice in her stories that Jade freaking loves Colorado, hard music, coffee, bad words, and CHOCOLATE!!! And so do her characters.

Oh, and there’s always a glimmer of hope…because if life doesn’t have that, what’s the damn point?

Fast and fun, “quickie” read! Sweet and snarky with the right amount of testosterone manipulation…..

So, I must say that I have never been a fan of the Bachelor or Bachelorette or whatever type of dating reality shows there are and such. However, a friend of mine just raves about this author and says you need to give this a try. I started reading it and am just getting started in the story when something occurred to me….I was actually hooked! I continued reading it, and reading it, and finished…..then had discuss this book ASAP because it ends on a cliffhanger. You will not know who goes home the first week. UGH! I NEED TO KNOW! You get a glimpse of who the men are and who Claire is but then there is the one on one time that they spend together. I started forming opinions and started to root for a couple of the guys *wags eyebrows*, but  I’ll let you form your own opinions, haha! Next thing you know after the dates some things are revealed and then I’m all like “I hate that guy” and “I really need this guy to win”. SMH! I don’t know how I got so wrapped up on this already but I need more! Ms. Jade C. Jamison, please bring on book 2 soon!

Wild Hunger (Heirs of Chicagoland, #1)

In the first thrilling installment of Chloe Neill’s spinoff to the New York Times bestselling Chicagoland Vampires series, a new vampire will find out just how deep blood ties run.

As the only vampire child ever born, some believed Elisa Sullivan had all the luck. But the magic that helped bring her into the world left her with a dark secret. Shifter Connor Keene, the only son of North American Central Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, is the only one she trusts with it. But she’s a vampire and the daughter of a Master and a Sentinel, and he’s prince of the Pack and its future king.

When the assassination of a diplomat brings old feuds to the fore again, Elisa and Connor must choose between love and family, between honor and obligation, before Chicago disappears forever.

Goodreads

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

I have not read the series that this book is a spin off for I guess I should say right off the start.  I have seen the other series and thought YES but it’s so deep in and I just don’t have the time to dedicate to starting a new series so when this happened I jumped.  I didn’t have any real trouble understanding storyline information from the other series.  I think the author did a great job explaining issues during the story for people like me to get was happening.  But I love paranormal so I can just kinda roll with it and go.  Some people might not be able to just go with it.

Essentially this book is about Elisa and the fact of her birth being so crazy and supernatural….see she is the only VAMPIRE child to be born and born with magic too….see why I love paranormal???!!

Connor and Elisa have a very complicated and sorted relationship to say the least.  They have great banter in the book and it made me laugh a bit.  They also have great chemistry which makes for fun reading too.  Connor and Elisa have to figure out about themselves and what they want when what they are starts to show.  This makes everything a bit more interesting.
