#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight #eventsponsor – Nikki Leigh

Nikki Leigh

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I absolutely adore writing, even the editing! Gasp, I know shocking huh? Now to the fun stuff… I’ve been happily married for 32 years to my wonderful supporting hubby. Without his love and support I probably wouldn’t have made it this far. When we’re not touring the United States between our signings, you’ll find us in our other favorite spot… camping!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first, by far!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I keep things fresh by trying to visualize how I’d like to read it and by coming up unique twists and turns the readers don’t see coming. My pocket editor is great for helping in this particular area.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take your time. It’s not a race. Take time for yourself, do the things you enjoy. And when it becomes too much, step back even if it’s only for 30 minutes. Remember our books don’t write themselves, contrary to some readers’ beliefs! We’re good, great even but the master has to be in peek performance to obtain greatness.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I spend on the average 10 plus hours writing and editing.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Ethan. He’s in my first series. He’s special to me because even with all the lies he uncovers that his father has hidden from him he still manages to show his love for his family.

What is your definition of success?

Holding each one of my book babies in my hand. Even if no one liked them (which I pray never happens) the fact will always be that I busted my butt off and brought my story to life and the proof is in my hands.

#WOTR24 #Contemporary #ThrowbackReview – Love’s Last Chance, Hollywood Hearts book 5 by Jean C. Joachim

Love's Last Chance (Hollywood Hearts. Bk 5)

Dorrie Rodgers left three men behind in New York when she moved to L.A. to dance the lead in a movie. Engagement to a powerful producer made her life complete. But an accident ended both her career and her impending marriage.
After three years of struggling along teaching yoga, Dorrie is hired to choreograph a movie. Wanting to share her joy at this fabulous chance to resurrect her career, she is determined to end her single status.
Questioning her decision to leave each of three men in New York, Dorrie returns to the Big Apple for one more day with each. Was she hasty in her decisions to leave them behind? Will one of these men make her change her mind? Will her return to the past bring the love she is seeking or will loneliness propel her back into the arms of the one man who broke her heart?

Review by Twinsie Angie

I gave this a 4.5 but rounded up.

I recevied this book from the author for an honest reviews.

SO I have to say this book was my favorite book my Jean. I loved the whole premise of the story. A woman who had been looking back at her past loves and deciding if maybe she let Mr. Right go…..She has the opportunity to be back near 3 men who might have been the right one. So after a failed engagment with a DB, picking up her life pieces, and starting over….she reaches out to 2 of the 3 men but knows she is going to se man #3 at a weekend reunion.

So enter man 1, Archer. He is sweet and had some [passion BUT very reserved. Then Enter man #2, Rick who is still kinda a DB and wants to date her ANNNND a handful of others. However when man #3 enters, John, My heart went pitter patter with desire, lust and pretty much alot of tingley bits 😉

Now on top of all these men she is trying to juggle and figure out HOw she wants, guess who decides he loved Dorrie again? YUP The DB ex…smh…really dude!! Annnnd then anohter suiter coming outta the shadows and I was like WHUT!! and YOU HAVE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!

Serioulsy this book had a lot going on but it was a really quick read that kept me guessing, made me heart broken and even made me yell at Dorrie for being so dang dumb sometimes!!!

I’ve been making up stories for as long as I can remember. When other kids wanted to be doctors, teachers or firemen, I wanted to be a writer.
As soon as I could read, I began devouring books. I’d read anything I could get my hands on, but Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” and Nancy Drew mysteries were early favorites.
In school, term papers were my favorite homework. While others bemoaned the amount of work involved, I jumped in, burying myself in research and writing the document with care.
Still fiction was my first love. After college and a degree in English, I fell into the world of advertising. After many years in corporate America, I went my own way. Working and raising two kids took all my energy and creativity. But when the youngest went off to school, all the stories ideas in my head came to life. Mac Caldwell and Callie Richards landed in my head and refused to leave. So I told their story. What started as one book has become six. Now I greet my characters every morning at six and jump back into their story, enjoying every minute. I’m blessed to be able to work at something I love. More than 70 books later, I’m still up at the crack of dawn, crafting the tales of the people who live in my head while nursing a cup of tea and a few pieces of black licorice.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – T.S. Ankney

T.S. Ankney

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

T.S. Ankney T.S. Ankney read her first romance novel at age twelve, when she snuck a book with a risqué cover out of a relative’s cabinet and read it at night under the covers with a flashlight to avoid getting caught relishing the “good parts.” She is a tiny blue dot in a big red state in the Midwest US and she loves a sad song, a happily ever after, and believes representation matters. When not writing, you can find TS streaming documentaries, reading new books by her favorite authors, or indulging in reality TV competition shows like Project Runway or Great British Baking Show.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I tend to write in series where the romantic suspense plot spans three or four books, so the first book is really important to set up the worlds and and start the mystery engine. But each book presents its own challenges.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Every character is unique so their story is unique. Staying true to them and getting readers on their side keeps it fresh.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Find what works for you and do that. There’s a lot of advice out there but it’s not one size fits all.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

4-6 hours.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I can’t pick just one! I love them all.

What is your definition of success?

Being able to support myself doing what I love and to touch people’s hearts.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Beverly Ovalle

Beverly Ovalle

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Beverly Ovalle I first published in 2013 TEN YEARS already, yikes! I love paranormal romance and I read more than I write, lol. But that’s okay. I’ve two grown children, one granddaughter and the hubby still likes me.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Any writing is hard. I am not a creature of habit, so I have to force myself to sit down and accomplish something.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to make sure that each situation is different with my characters.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Make sure to take breaks when writing. Not everyone is a machine. Be happy if you get any words down. I’ve happily strutted away after writing fifty, lol.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to do a minimum of an hour a day. TRY being the keyword.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Each new book brings a new favorite character, so I guess I’m fickle. Right now it is Mara from my upcoming book Waking Tamara.

What is your definition of success?

Having someone enjoy what I wrote.

Seven years. Seven years ago, I did the right thing. I broke her heart. I had always planned to come back. Planned to make things right. But time wasn’t on my side anymore. She was engaged. Another man’s ring was on her finger, and it was time to fight for what I’d always known was meant to be mine. Our history was painted with regret and unspoken truths, but now, I finally have the chance to close the distance between us. To show my best friend’s little sister she’s always been my end game. But something comes lurking out of the shadows. Something neither of us saw coming. Book 3 of the Timber Creek Series. Series will contain interconnected standalones. Please read reader note for TW.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Oh boy.  Greyson Roy you are one naughty and swoon worthy man.  Look I am coming out of the gates with my favorite lines….”You are everything” followed by “Sit on my face NOW Rosie!!”  Yes girls the same man who made me swoon also made my knees a little bit weak.

I gotta say Easton is still my main man but damn did Grey give him a run for his money.

This book is EVERYTHING you want with a Best Friend’s sibling and a little bit enemy to lover.  The chemistry and sexual tension between Tilly/Rosie and Grey are OFF THE CHARTS!!  Holy Moly.  These two are meant to be together and yes there are legit reasons why Grey does the shady when he leaves 7 years ago…but he makes it up to her in so many ways as we discover through the novel. Every single time we learned of the ways Greyson “took care of Rosie” made my heartbeat faster.  For real this book….swooooooooon. Tilly, as any heartbroken woman does…hides behind another man. LOL  The story of her and Blaine is a wild ride.

The twists and turns of this story are great. I really had no clue who the bad guy was and was shocked when it all played out at the end.  The end of the story gives us a glimpse into the next books and LAWD is it going to be good!!  Whit is in trouble in a lot of ways.

I do want to say this is the 6th book I have read by this author.  I love how her writing style is developing and her writing is just getting so much better.  The first books were GREAT. I loved them but I feel like she is more confident.  Her story telling had improved with each book.  Her flow is much better.  She is blowing me away with each additional story she is writing.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I have wanted Tilly’s story since meeting her. She is a strong-willed independent woman even though she is deaf it does not and will not define her. She has the confidents that she is going to what she wants no matter what. However, she holds her heart close never wanting to give it away like she did with Grayson only to have it crushed again. She will not be that 17 year old girl again.

Tilly had a crush on her older brothers best friend Grayson when she was in high school only problem was he was older and headed to college. After her mother died Grayson was the only one who was able to reach her to pull her out of the darkness she was in. Grayson knew they were in two different points in their lives and put space between them.

Seven years later Grayson finds out his Rosie is going to marry another man. Let’s just say Grayson has something to say about that and is on the first plane home. It was amazing seeing these two journeys from the past up to the present. Only question is can Grayson he win his Rosie back or has he lost her forever?

I loved Tilly from the moment I meet her she is such an amazing character.  Oh boy did Greyson catch my eye. These two have serious chemistry even if they tried to hold back. I loved Tilly and Greyson story the twists in this story were ones I didn’t see coming. This book had me turning pages like they were hotcakes. I needed to know what was going to happen and how this was going to end. Then when I was at the end I wanted more. I loved how this book sets up the next book and oh man am I so excited to see what is in store for Whit. I just know it will be every bit as good as the other books in this series.

S.J. Chaynie is a small-town Texas girl who has found a love for writing. She enjoys writing romance, with a sprinkle of suspense, and a little humor. If she is not busy writing her newest ideas, she is spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters. She believes a good book and a lot of laughs is the best medicine. She brings suspense, love, angst, and sometimes the occasional heartbreak to her stories. Always a HEA, but every character and story she holds close to her heart and hopes they touch yours as well.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Teresa Gabelman

Teresa Gabelman

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Teresa Gabelman. I write paranormal romance. The Protector Series (Vampire) and Lee County Wolves (Shifter). I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestseller because I have the best readers ever. It’s all because of them. I love to read when I have time; I’m a huge gamer and just got my first PC gaming system (SWEET), and I have three dogs I absolutely adore. I have a very supportive family as well as a reader community that I call my chosen family.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones that follow for sure.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Making each character and storyline different but still (in a series) keeping to the main or overall storyline. (Did that even make sense?) LOL! Adding new characters for readers as well as myself to look forward to in future books.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t give up when you want to give up, and believe me, that will definitely come. Find a good support system you can turn to when you want to smash your computer into a million pieces. I have a great group of ladies I turn to, and they are amazing. They tell me to hush, get over it and write. LOL! Sorta kidding. Seriously, an amazing support system or person is the key. Everyone needs to vent during those stressful times. I also cuddle with my dogs…a lot. Finding a snuggle buddy helps tremendously.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Depends on deadline time. During the end of a deadline, I am pulling all-nighters. When deadlines are not looming, I usually write, rewrite, listen to, and edit four to five chapters a day, depending on what is happening with the life stuff. That doesn’t always happen, but it’s the goal.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

It has to be Steve. He’s a hilarious Warrior who never shuts up and is always in trouble, especially with fellow Warriors. Readers often ask me where I come up with his lines; honestly, I have no clue. They just come, and for an author, that is so refreshing when you have a character that happens with. His banter with other characters even has ME laughing, which is welcomed when I’m stressed to the max. So yeah, Steve is my go-to character.

What is your definition of success?

My definition of success happened to me with book one of the Protector Series when I made my first sale. Before I published Damon in 2011, I told my husband and son that if only one stranger bought my book, I would have successfully become an author. I will never forget the day I sold my first Damon ebook to a complete stranger. I wish I knew who that stranger was so I could hug them because that was a dream come true for me.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Thanks to all the readers who support us by reading our books. You’ve made a lot of dreams come true. We couldn’t do what we do without every single one of you.

Kate Rudolph

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m a paranormal and sci-fi romance writer who lives in Indiana. I love writing about kick butt heroines and the steamy heroes who love them. I’ve been devouring romance novels since I was too young to be reading them and had to hide my books so no one would take them away. I couldn’t imagine a better job in this world than writing romances and sharing them with my fellow readers.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The later books definitely!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to mix and match different genre and trope elements – no one says that book nine in an alien romance series can’t ALSO be a murder mystery.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Words on the page, seriously. Even if all you can manage is a sentence, write it down.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

An hour or two.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I love all my children equally.

What is your definition of success?

I’m able to support myself by writing books and that is definitely part of is.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Jessa Aarons

Jessa Aarons

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi. I’m Jessa Aarons.
Oh my, talk about myself… I’m horrible at this LOL!
I’m a Midwestern girl at heart and have lived here my whole life. I was born in Green Bay, WI… Go Pack Go… but moved a smidgen south and have lived in the same south-eastern city since I was two. In fact, I currently live only 4 blocks away from my parents. I really moved far!
I’ve been married to my hubby, who I call Mr. J, for 7 years. We’ve been together for 12 years. He’s the reason I started writing books. He’s been my biggest cheerleader since day one, and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without him. He’s seriously the best!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Definitely the ones after it! When I started my Rebel Vipers MC, I had so many characters wanting to talk, that picking the first was easy… bok one’s story was plotted in mere days. After that, things went wonky for a bit. Because all the “others” wanted their story’s told too, I’ve juggled my writing order around so many times, I couldn’t tell you what my original series order plan was anymore.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Mostly by having a different trope for different books. One of my characters was a single dad, another was a commitment-phobe, and even another a enemies-to-lovers type. By switching things up by story style, even in one series, you could keep things fresh and fun!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t rush yourself! I’ve been there, and I crashed. It’s so easy to compare yourself to other authors out there, and wonder why they’re doing “x, y, & z” better than you. Don’t! Write for you. Go at your pace. Write the stories you want to read. Being an author should be fun, you got this!

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Some days zero minutes… others, fourteen hours LOL! But when I’m in book mode, I usually aim for word count instead of time. I’ve had it take ten hours to write five thousand words. And the next day I can do that many in four. It depends on how “agreeable” the characters are in telling me their story.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

So far I’d have to make it a tie. Smoke and Haze, from book 4 in my Rebel Vipers MC series was so much fun. It’s a MMF story, about their journey to not only accepting their own sexualities, and their new places in the MC and newly patched Brothers, but also in finding the right woman to fit into their relationship. There’s angst and danger and so much love in this book, I didn’t want the story to end. I probably could write them 3 more books!

What is your definition of success?

Success to me is when readers want more. More books, certain characters to get a story… just more. If they want more from me, that to me means they like what I’ve done so far, and it means I’m doing something right.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Judith Lynne

Judith Lynne

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Judith Lynne. I’m a lifelong romance lover; dipped my toe into other types of writing in my life (including trying screenwriting), and came back to finally write the romances of my dreams. I live in Ohio and love it; keeping my houseplants alive, learning to garden – and baking bread! My readers know I have a pet turtle who doesn’t care about my writing at all, and the world’s handsomest nephew-dog. Most people don’t know I have a PhD in literature and a master’s in linguistics, but it’s obvious I get WAY too nerdy with research for my books. I love primary source material.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Hot tip: the second book is the hardest, for some reason. The first book is the easiest!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I have characters of *all* kinds, and I write a series by picturing a group of people who will wind up connected somehow (rather than being connected to start with, like a family). I love found families. So I keep things fresh by reminding myself what’s unique about these two people and their relationship compared to the rest of the troop; the story is always driven by the relationship.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

I’d say get a husband as supportive as mine but he’s taken! Plug into a social network of writers who will support your efforts, and plug into a conference or club that puts on events that will spark your creative juices when they feel stale. Know what fills up your tank.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

2-3 hours. But some days it’s nothing and some days it’s 12.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Anthony, because he’s incredible. I never imagined someone giving up so much for love before I “met” him. And Tella because she’s Batman. 🙂

What is your definition of success?

Someone falling in love with one of my characters. Which makes them a friend of mine, because I fall in love with all of my characters!

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I’m putting out my tenth book but I still feel like I’m just getting started. I hope any readers out there who love the Regency time period will let me know what types of books they’d still like to see from me – reader inspiration is the best! It’s not always “I want to see this” but often it’s “I never see this” and I think “Hold my beer…”
