A bit about me…

I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances–the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed–though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

“Come, I want to show you my favorite section here,” he says while dragging me behind him. Now it’s as if he’s a kid in the candy store. Laughter escapes from me while I’m being pulled. I glimpse back and forth between everything as it’s covered in greenery and wonder what it would’ve been like back in the day. As we slow, I notice the Ragnaie up ahead, and I pray that he’s going to say this is his favorite spot. I really want to walk underneath it.

“You coming?” he asks, tilting his head in that direction. I offer the biggest goofy smile ever and follow along. I take in the green trees that cascade over the gravel path making a canopy above our heads. The sunlight peers through open sections of the trees above, creating a spotlight effect down toward the road as we walk along. Pierce takes my hand into his and squeezes it a little more than he has before. I close my eyes and glide through as I imagine being here with my fiancé or lover in the future. We could come here for him to kneel down and propose to me, or to celebrate our first year of being wed.

I stop and breathe in the air around us. I want to memorize this moment for as long as I can. I want to remember exactly what it smells like, the sounds of the birds chirping, and the slight creaking of the branches. I picture that it’s the sound of the branches intertwining more into each other, forming a tighter bond than before. The hopeless romantic in me wonders if that’s the sound that two lovers’ hearts make. When two people who love each other unconditionally grow old together, do their branches mend together to make a canopy of their souls?

Pauline strives to make every reader feel sexy and desired by the time they turns to the last page. The Midwest is home, but her heart stays tethered to New Orleans where she travels three times a year to recharge her creative muse. She is amazed that she gets to wake up every morning next to her hero and go to bed each night listening to her two boys argue over who gets to put the cat to bed. When not writing, Pauline enjoys listening to music and watching Penny Dreadful and Game of Thrones. When it comes to romance, Pauline has one goal. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

Funny tidbit. My mother was a showgirl at the Tropicana in Las Vegas before I was born. My father said she had great moves. I was lucky enough to inherit that sexy sway and decided, when I was twenty-one, it would be a grand idea to work at a strip club a couple of nights to pay for a semester tuition while I was in college. Well, I made it up on the stage for the audition. Had the slimy owner give me the thumbs up. The music went live. I covered my hands over my face and ran out of the place. So, I decided to keep my dancing moves on a regular dance floor from then on.

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

As a reader I enjoy reading them as long as the characters have a deep connection to one and other. I prefer series that tie the heroes together. I also like to write series because I feel I can build the world with layers and create a bond with the reader. I don’t feel they are easier or harder to write. Each book has to stand on its own merit and therefore be as independent as a stand alone. However, it does grant the writer and reader a longer period of time to get to know the whole cast.

Where do you do most of your writing?

In my office. I have a 1900 Victorian home. My office in on the second story. The third floor is reserved for the rug rats. My office is decorated in the likeness of a picture I found of an old brothel in Storyville, New Orleans. The decor consists of all my trinkets from my travels to Nola.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

Currently, I just finished Lissa Matthews’s Break Me. I’m also reading Megan Hart’s Hold Me Close and Bonnie Dee’s When All The World Sleeps. I am usually reading a fetish, straight, and gay erotic romance all at once.

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

Oh my gosh, yes! I’ve been reading gay romance for years, but never expected the genre to literally explode. The books are rich with broken characters and emotional plot lines. I read more gay romance than any other genre. I love to write gay romance.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

That I can do it! I’ve been writing short stories and poems since I was a little girl. One day sat down and said, “I think I’ll write a book.” So, I wrote a book, submitted it to a publisher and it got signed. It is amazing I get to write down the stories in my head and people cry and smile when they read them. I feel very blessed.

What are you working on now?

Claiming Dane, the second book in the Hot Southern Nights series comes out on March 22nd. Currently, I’m writing Broken Pieces an erotic romance Young Adult book.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

Lock myself in my office and write with James Bond movies playing in the background.

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

Highest high…the first time my dad held a signed copy of my first published novel. The lowest…the last time I knew he’d ever hold one of my books again.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I am dying!!  This book had me cracking up and then wanting to throat punch the two main characters multiple times through the story….but a good throat punch is always ok right???

Billy and Madison. Madison and Billy.  Those two have been dancing around each other for too damn long.  I have been WAITING for their story since we saw the sparks fly in the very first book.  Billy aka Mr. Primp and Proper who is fighting his attraction for his co-worker/best friend’s little sister.  Madison aka Ms. Wild Child is going to get her man or make him “uncomfortable” for the rebuffs.

Billy is so repulsed by Madison’s behavior but at the same time he is completely turned on by it.  Madison is so mad that Billy won’t admit he want her like she wants him so she is going to make his life a living hell.  When Billy gets some troubling news instead of being the logical thinker be drowns in the bottom of a bottle.  WELLL, that might had been what broke the camel’s back because things with Madison are ON!!  Then when he needs help, Madison is there to jump into the fire to help him figure his drama out.  He is floored by this new side of her.  He is also even more attracted to her.  This is NOT who he thought she was.  Madison is over the moon that Billy is letting her in a bit.  She is even excited he is opening up and trusting her which is something only her wild imagination would have even thought possible.

The sassy and feisty attitude of Madison had me cracking up but then wanting to hug her because she is a kind soul who only wants to help those she cares for.  Billy is so “stickup his butt” until Madison helps him see that wild and out of control is ok and makes life worth living.

My favorite scenes are: Madison breaking her butt…..LOL  yeah its great reading.  I also loved Billy’s affliction…..Again I was cracking up but so moved by his statement.  But what I really loved was seeing Billy let go and open up to let Madison in.  I also loved Madison teaching Billy that unpredictability is a great gift to possess.
