Goodreads

I grabbed this book off Amazon for free when I knew that I would be seeing this author at an author signing.

I love novella’s because they give you a feeling for an author and their series.  If I like a novella for a series I am more inclined to read a whole book in the series.  Well this book gave me a great bit of insight to this authors writing. I gotta tell ya, I am super excited to read more!

So this short but sweet story does end in kinda a cliffhanger but not really a cliff hanger??  Does that make sense??  In a way this book is set up for as a serial, IMO, then a novella…does that kinda clarify my comments about it being cliff hangery???

Annabelle and Jackson have had it bad for each other for a long time.  When they both end up staying at Annabelle’s family cabin at the same time and don’t know it….wow baby does it get steamy.

I loved that we, the reader, knew both the characters were at the house together but it took a few chapters for the characters to discover it and WHAT A WAY TO DISCOVER IT!!!

This is a super quick, steamy read but one I can’t wait to finish!

Daddy’s Best Friend
London Hale
Publication date: May 2nd 2017
Genres: Erotica, Romance

She’s temptation personified
Nathan had always been more than just my dad’s friend. I never thought he’d see me as an adult, especially not after avoiding me for so long. But one hug, one moment feeling every inch of him against me, shattered that illusion. Consequences no longer mattered—I was eighteen, and I was willing to risk everything for my shot with him.

He’s not going to resist anymore
I never should’ve seen Eve as more than my best friend’s daughter. As a cop, I knew it was wrong. It was my job to protect her from guys like me. Chasing her could cost me my career—not to mention the only family I’d ever known—but I couldn’t hold back another second. One taste, and I wanted her. To hell with the fallout.

#WOTR #Spotlight – Anna Hague

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Anna Hague.
I have an alternate career as a sports writer, covering any sport, but my first love is IndyCar racing. I’m married to a wonderful, supportive husband, and we have three parrots and a dog. We’ve hosted foreign exchange students for many years and have been lucky enough to visit their home countries.

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve written stories since I was very young, and I still find old notebooks with partial stories or ideas I’ve jotted down. I began to seriously pursue romance writing a few years ago when I was so fed up with my job at the time, I needed the escape of writing. Even though I kept working, I cut back my hours and dived head first into my projects.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

I’m a huge fan of Kat Martin. We both used to live in Bakersfield, CA, and I would see her at local signings. I also enjoy reading some kink, and for that, my favorites are Tamsen Parker and Tara Sue Me. Really, though, I just want a good story and will read just about anything.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

It is much more painful than I thought, but I have so many other author friends who are helpful, supportive, and will hold my hand when I need it.
Since I still write for newspapers, the style is very different, and switching back and forth is a challenge.

What are you working on now?

I am nearly finished with Appearances which is an opposites story mixed with suspense. This book will be available at WOTR. Additionally, I am starting a sequel to Captured Hearts. The book was meant to be a stand alone, but several people are requesting more of the story. I have many notes and ideas in a notebook just waiting for me to begin.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

Complete pantser. Years of newspaper reporting makes me work better without a plans. Planning is usually a disaster for me.

#WOTR #Spotlight – NJ Cole

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m NJ Cole. I’m probably like most authors on here. Writing is my second career. I’ve published 8 books. I’m a mom and I’ve been married for 22 years. My husband is also my Dom. We attend a BDSM club weekly. I’ve really learned to explore that part of myself and bring it to my writing. Recently I’ve started writing about my personal experiences and sending it out in my newsletter.

When and Why did you start to write?

I started to write fan fiction and I still do. I always have something out there for free. It just kind of spiraled out of control after that.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

I’ve found out that I can’t read and write at the same time. If I stop to read a book, I can’t get back into my own writing for a few weeks. It’s a bummer for a girl who loves to read and write.

What are you working on now?

I’m still working on a story called Milk Money. It’s a fan fiction, but it’s also going to be published. I’m working on the sequel to it now. In addition, I like to role play. Some of my role plays can be published. This summer I hope to put out at least two books.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I assume that means writing by the seat of my pants? And that is me. I know the beginning, and then I let the characters tell me as I go. Once I was near the ending and I was like, “Ohhhhh, so that’s why the hurricane had to be named Abby!” I do often roll my own eyes at myself.

#Review #TwinsieForTheDayJordan – Like a Girl by Holly S. Roberts

Like a Girl

What if pro football is missing a key ingredient? Like a Girl is When Harry Met Sally meets Jerry Maguire with a whole lot of girl power thrown in.

Aiden Patrickson’s dreams of a championship ring mean nothing when playing for the worst team in pro football. A strong arm and deadly accuracy make no difference unless your front line stops the opposing team from trampling the quarterback.

It’s a new season and the suits upstairs are bringing additional players on board to turn the team around. Aiden has no clue what they’re thinking. The new kicker is old enough to be Aiden’s father. The only bright side is his daughter, a hot little number who catches Aiden’s eye and adds a touch of excitement to the new season.

Jordan Givens can’t stop her attraction to football’s bad boy quarterback. Aiden wasn’t ready for Jordan to enter his world but she’s worked her butt off to find her place in the male dominated sport of football. Aiden and his teammates don’t know what hit them when Jordan enters the locker room like she owns the place.

One crazy night in Jordan’s hotel room almost ruins her dreams and somehow, following the sexiest encounter of her life, she must avoid Aiden at all costs. It doesn’t matter how good he looks in tight football pants, she needs to focus on the end game.

Football is not a gentleman’s sport. It’s raw, dirty, and violent. Maybe what this losing team needs is a woman’s touch.

Review by Jordan

What an empowering and inspiring story! I’m not a sports fan although I know enough to hold a conversation with my husband if need be. This story had me captivated from page one. From the fact that Jordan is strong woman who didn’t take any crap from the boys. She stood up for what she believed and that girls can do anything boys can do. Football has always been seen as a boys’ sport, but Jordan set out to change that thinking as the first female pro football player. Aiden is the all-American quarterback that ever girl wants. Fortunately, he decides he likes Jordan better than any supermodel because she doesn’t hide who she is. I loved the hype and suspense that were included. The story left two things for me to remember…. be who you are and KICK LIKE A GIRL!

#WOTR #Review – Heat by CA Harms

HEAT by CA Harms
Series: Montgomery Men #2 (Standalone)
Genre: Contemporary Romance
— SYNOPSIS —
Beckett Montgomery is a well-known detective in the New York area. He takes his job seriously and has little time for anything else.

But when he’s called to Shanelle Kramer’s apartment after she’s frightened by an intruder in the middle of the night, he finds himself getting a little too involved. He can’t seem to let go of the image of the beautiful, scared blonde sitting at the end of her couch in those tiny shorts and that even tinier tank top.

It was his job to keep her safe. His job to find the man stalking her.

But Beckett is finding it next to impossible to keep this case strictly professional.Maybe just one taste would end his addiction for Shanelle.
But one taste was just a tease….
He needed more.Because the Heat between them was just too hot to resist.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

OH Man are those Montgomery Men hawt!!  Beckett doesn’t disappoint by any means either.  He is brooding, alpha and just yumtastic…mind you he is not my baby daddy Knox but he could keep the bed warm at nights!!

Beck is not used to working for woman but he sure has too with Elle.  She is naïve and kind, sweet and innocent, giving and warm.  SO when he spies her at a club he is bound and determined to get her until she leaves with another man.  Beck isn’t used to defeat.  Good thing old Lex is there to help him out.  OMG Seriously Lex makes the books.  I can’t get enough of him!!!

Elle is scared to step out of her comfort zone so approaching a man like Beck is not going to happen.  When she has a break in at her apartment, he is the detective to come and help her.  Thank goodness for fate stepping in and forcing her to talk to him.  But also, thank you Kim for shaking her and making her realize she is much more than just a case for the detective.

Of course, Beck screws up and of course we have to give him time to make a “Please help me get Elle back” plan.  Again, thanks to Lex for helping to arrange the 2nd chance for the couple.  I loved loved love the deal he made with Beck and so will you!!!

I loved this story and loved seeing the other brothers and their mother again.  I really can’t wait for Knox to get his book because he and I need our HEA.

— EXCERPT
The moment she lifted her gaze, I swear I felt the floor shift beneath my feet and my stomach grew weak momentarily.
It was her, the woman from the club that night. The one I’d thought of often ever since she walked away from me that night and though I barely knew her I swear I felt the loss.
She looked so confident then, but now she looked so delicate and frail. The scared look in her eyes made my stomach feel hollow. It was a strange feeling, really. Over the years on the job, I’ve looked into the eyes of a terrified woman so many times. I’ve listened to them explain their fears and describe the terror they lived through, and watched them break in front of me. But I’ve never felt the kind of things I did now.
I wanted to find the asshole that had placed her in this state and strangle the life out of him.
“It’s you,” she whispered. I was surprised she recognized me in her current state of mind. Our initial meeting was so brief it probably couldn’t even be called an introduction. “Beckett,” she whispered, and I took a seat before her. “Right?” I nodded and ignored the curious looks of those around us. “Yes,” I replied as she continued to stare at me. “Beckett’s right. Detective Montgomery, actually,” I clarified and her eyes widened just a bit.
Her lip trembled even though I could tell she was attempting to appear strong. I wanted to take her into my arms and hold her close. I wanted to whisper that she was safe now, but I refrained. Fuck, I had never had this type of battle when it came to my job. Putting my emotions aside had never been a problem until now.
“There was someone here,” she said, staring me in the eyes with a look of determination. “I saw him. He just stood there in the doorway watching me. And I was so scared to move because I had no idea what he wanted. I wanted him to leave, but he stood there, watching and waiting, I don’t even know for what.” She took in a deep breath. “I’ve never felt that kind of fear before.”
I allowed her a few moments to just breathe before I began my own series of questions, doing my best to sound supportive and genuine.
“I know it was dark, but was there anything about him you recognized?” She shook her head. “Could you tell if he had short hair, long hair?”
“He wore a hat. A baseball cap,” she clarified.
“Did he say anything? Do anything that you remember?”
She shook her head again.
“Did he turn in the doorway, was there any lighting illuminating the room that gave you the chance to see his side profile?” Another shake of her head left us with no answers. Tears rolled along her cheeks, and my chest ached. “It’s okay,” I assured her as I placed my hand on her forearm. “I’m gonna take a look around,” I said as I began to stand, and panic took over her features.
There was something greatly satisfying about the fact that she didn’t like the idea of me leaving her. “Just a quick scan,” I assured her as I stood. “I’m not leaving. I promise you, you’re safe with me.”
She gave a quick nod before she wrapped her arms around herself and sank back into the couch, as if she were attempting to hide from this evening’s events.
As I moved from her living room to her bedroom, I looked for any clue that may help us solve this puzzle. Each time I looked to her, she was watching me, and that satisfied feeling returned again.
I’d never wanted to be any woman’s savior. I just woke up every day and fought the bad guys because I fucking loved the rush.
But tonight felt different. Knowing that she was looking at me as her hero felt deeply gratifying.
I wanted to be the one to saved her. I wanted to take down the man who’d terrorized her and give her back her freedom. And damn if I didn’t want her to keep looking at me just like she was now.
Like I was her hero.
— ABOUT THE AUTHOR: CA HARMS —
A little about me. Let’s see where to start.
I love HEA stories, as long as they come packing a little heat. I need some excitement, some angst, and moments that make me fan my face are always good too. I am an Illinois girl, born and raised. Simple and true, it honestly doesn’t take much to make me happy. I love the little things; they truly mean the most. I may have a slight addiction to my new Keurig—oh my, that thing is a godsend. And so fast too. I have two children who truly are my very best friends, and their faces never fail to put a smile on my face. I have been married to my husband for sixteen years, and even though at times I want to beat him with a stick, I would never change the years we have had. We have learned and fallen, only to pick each other up, dust off the ache, and help each other make it right.
I am one of those authors that adore my fans. I love to hear from you. After all, it is because of each one of you that I continue to write. I look forward to your feedback.

#WOTR #Review – Dropkick My Heart by Winter Travers

Title: Dropkick My Heart

Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance
Release Date: March 29, 2017
AVAILABLE NOW

Kellan

Countless hours of practice, and enough determination to succeed no matter the cost is what has brought Kellan to standing at the door to his life coming full circle.
Life on the competition circuit was fast-paced, and exciting, but now Kellan is ready to settle down, and stay in his own bed for longer than a week.
Opening Powerhouse Martial Arts with his three best friends was just what they all needed to showcase their skills from traditional forms, all the way to show-style sport tricking.
Kellan thought he had it all figured out, except he didn’t figure in the sassy barista next door.

Molly
For seven years, Molly saved every penny she had to buy the quirky coffee shop on the corner.
Lattes, cappuccinos, espresso. You name it, Molly can make it.
Early mornings slinging coffee, and late nights thinking up the next new coffee craze leaves Molly little time to have a life. Her customers have become her family, and she would do anything to keep her customers happy.
Even venturing over to the new Martial Arts studio next door, and asking them to keep the screaming and grunting to a minimum. Surely one doesn’t need to scream so much, right?

With Molly throwing down the gauntlet to quiet down or shut down, Kellan does the only thing he can do.
Take off the sparring gloves, and show the barista just what Powerhouse Martial Arts is all about.
Strength, Style, & taking no prisoners.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Molly is the owner of a local coffee shop and is totally dismayed when she discovers that there are some not normal sounds coming from next door…I mean grunting is not an ok sound when you are trying to run a cool, chill coffee shop right??

Kellan is part owner of the “offending” shop next door to the coffee shop… Karate shop people…get your minds outta the gutter!!  When Molly struts her stuff over to get them to CHILL OUT , with cookies might I add because cookies always makes everything better, a war of the minds soon ensues.

This book was my first Winter Travers book.  I was totally cracking up at everything that happen in the short time that this war began.  The two sides have a few weeks to try and “break” the other down.  Seriously I loved the story and it was totally not what I was expecting but those are always the best books right???

I received a copy of this book via netgalley for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Dive Bar Series. Kylie has a way of sucking you into a book from the beginning and wanting to keep turning pages.  Ever feel like you were dropped into a twilight zone.  Well that is kinda what happens to Alex. She decides to go surprise a guy for his birthday that she has been emailing for months. When she arrives at the bar he has no idea who she is.  He has to be kidding with her he knows her. Gasp…what!! Joe has been pretending to be someone else this entire time.

I enjoyed Alex she was funny and witty but so did not want to trust Joe after what he did. Joe was the quiet bartender was loving and caring. The story line was great and watching Alex and Joe build on their friendship and grow into more was wonderful. Once things start going on the right path the past comes back and threatens to ruin everything they have overcome and built. Being able to read their emails from one another in the beginning stages of their relationship was perfect. I loved the banter these two had throughout the book and their relationship.

There was more going on it this book than just what Joe and Alex were going through. There was the whole Eric/Nell/Pat thing going on that took a twist I didn’t see coming.  We also get to see more of Vaughan and Lydia which was nice too. Oh and we even get a glimpse of the Stage Dive couples. Great job sucking me into the story my emotions were all over with this one and I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next.

#WOTR #Spotlight – Jolanthe Aleksander @Joli_Aleksander

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Jolanthe Aleksander
Jolanthe is a Marine Corps Brat and proud of it. The nomadic life of the military helped develop her love of reading and books became her friend.

A dancer, Jolanthe was a member of the CBA team the Fury and appeared in several productions in the area theatres circuit. She gave up her role of dancer/actress for her greatest role to date, that of Mother to a son who reminds her every day to find joy in the simplest of things and to use her imagination.

Missing the stage, and at the prompting of some on-line friends, Jolanthe gave rp-ing with an internet group a try. There she found and developed her skill as a writer.
When not working, writing, or keeping up with her son, Jolanthe can be found scouring antique shops, used bookstores, and of course, reading.

When and Why did you start to write?

Years ago, I used to write poetry. I started story telling writing when I joined an on-line rp group.
There were several people in the group who decided to had decided to do NaNoWriMo and I thought, why not give it a shot.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

oooo….there’s a long list of authors:
Hannah Howell, Francis Statham Patton, Lynn Kurland, Diana Gabaldon
JR Ward, Christine Warren, Patricia Briggs, Jory Strong, Lora Leigh
Anne Bishop, Savannah Verte, Cherise Sinclair, Jenna Jacob, Eden Bradley, Sierra Cartwright
These are just a few of my favorites.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

While writing the second book of The Veil series, I have found that pantsing, which worked well with the first book, doesn’t work so well when continuing a story. At least it hasn’t for me. lol
I’ve also found that I’m not as fast a writer as I would like to think I am. lol

What are you working on now?

Right now, I’m working on getting The Veiled Path to Destiny~The Veil Book 2 finished and to press.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I would say that I straddle both worlds at the moment, but I’m leaning more and more to becoming a plotter.

I’m Maxon Reed—real estate mogul, shark, asshole. If a deal isn’t high profile and big money, I pass. Now that I’ve found the property of a lifetime, I’m jumping. But one tenacious bastard stands between me and success—my brother. I’ll need one hell of a devious ploy to distract cynical Griff. Then fate drops a luscious redhead in my lap who’s just his type.
College senior Keeley Kent is broke enough to accept a pretty penny while I teach her to be Griff’s perfect girlfriend. But somewhere between the makeover and the witty conversation, I’m having trouble resisting her. The quirky dreamer is everything I usually don’t tolerate. But she’s beyond charming. I more than want her; I’m desperate to own her. I’m not even sure how drastic I’m willing to get to make her mine—but I’m about to find out.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

I love the start of a new series by a favorite author and Shayla Black did not disappoint here.
We are sent to the lovely tropical paradise of the Hawaiian Island of Maui with Maxon Reed and Kelley Kent.
Maxon is a high powered real estate mogul, number one on the island, and deals with million dollar listings. He also happens to be a workaholic who is always looking out for himself, if that happens to make him a jerk so be it.
Kelley is a sassy older college student and holds down various other jobs, one of them a singer at a bar.
Maxon has learned that he has to compete with another agent to get this new multimillion dollar listing. The problem is the other agent is his younger brother Griff whom he hasn’t spoken to in three years due to a series of errors on both their parts.
Enter Kelley, the perfect distraction for Griff to drop the ball on the listing. He just has to get her to agree to be the distraction and not get distracted himself, when she shows him what he has been missing out on while being a workaholic.
Kelley is so vivacious and zen I love her!! The only thing she really wants in life is to be happy and that is a awesome thing to me. Not money, not some high powered job, just happiness something that Maxon is sorely needing, for someone who seems to have it all he has no idea what he has.
I go between wanting to smack him and feeling sorry for him. He knows nothing of love only revenge and being number one, that is the way the was raised.
He fights so hard to not fall for Kelley while getting her prepared for Griff, when the time comes to choose between her and getting the listing he does something utterly stupid.
I love the way that things come to head, its great and it came outta left field for me!! I adore getting surprised in a book and Kelley surprised the heck outta me. Music is a big part of this book and the songs that Black uses fit so well that I find myself humming them throughout the book.
The ending was perfect and finding out that Griff story was next was great. I loved Kelley and Maxon and cant wait to read Griff, I also hope to see more of their little sister.

Shayla currently lives in North Texas with her wonderfully supportive husband, her teenage daughter, and a very spoiled cat. In her “free” time, she enjoys reality TV, reading, and listening to an eclectic blend of music.
