Catnapped by the Catman: An Alien Abduction Standalone Romance (Interstellar Protections Agency Book 1) by [Jade Waltz]

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Ok, first I have a question to ask. Do you prefer dogs or cats? LOL!

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from today, it’s that if I wanted loyalty, I should’ve gotten a dog. No matter how much I loved Loki, he was still a cat who could only serve himself. One thing was for sure: I wasn’t going to trust a feline ever again.”

Well, let me tell you something. When you are catnapped by a catman, trust is very difficult. However, when aliens and space travel are involved as well as a damned good explanation from the catman, it is extremely difficult not to fall head over paws for him!

Sarah is a single woman who has had poor luck with love in the past but absolutely adores her cat, Loki. One thing she was not prepared for was for her cat to make a deal with an alien cat to kidnap her. There were so many “miscommunications” that it was hard not to chuckle at their entire exchange. Once Sarah realizes she has been kidnapped and aliens do exist, she starts to try and figure out what her next steps are. Sarah and the catman cannot communicate so they are both fumbling around, which is super cute and adorable. The way that the catman and Loki banter back and forth is hilarious, but both ultimately have Sarah’s best interest at heart. Ultimately the point of kidnapping/catnapping Sarah is to save some of her friends and others that are traveling into an area where they could be attacked. I did expect there to be some more action but the action actually takes place away from their ship. Other than that, this story had a lot of funny moments, tons of banter, and a super sweet romance with a few really hot moments (bow chicka bow wow). I cannot wait to see what the next book unravels!

#WOTR23 – #Review – Megan Slays Vampires by Sophie Stern

If monsters aren’t real, why do I kill so many of them?

I’ve spent the last five years training as a vampire hunter. My goal is to hunt, maim, and kill as many of the bastards as I can. They’re infecting our city and each time I manage to kill one, five more spring up in its place. The vampire hunter’s council is breathing down my neck, but I’m already working 25 hours a day, eight days a week.

Then one night, everything changes.

I make a mistake and a vampire catches me. He doesn’t kill me, though. Instead, he brings me into his lair and he makes me question…everything.

What if everything I’ve ever been taught has been a lie?

What if the vampires aren’t the real monsters?

What if it’s me?

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I have no clue how to explain how much you NEED to read this book, but you NEED to read Megan Slays Vampires! Alright! I said it…now that I have that out of my system, I must start by saying this is my first Sophie Stern book and I CANNOT WAIT for more!!!! Megan is quite the badass! But once Donal enters her life, everything turns upside down. She realizes then that she is not chasing the monsters, she is working for the monsters. Once that realization hits home, she really has some things to think about. Megan is an orphan and has trained and slayed many a monster. This is her job, her life But Donal throws a wrench in everything that she knows. Let me tell you about these two. Donal and Megan have this perfect push/pull relationship. They are both witty and their banter is hilarious but can be as sweet as strawberry wine. The intensity between them is palpable. Once these two really open up to each other and start to work together, things really start to go crazy!

“A shapeshifter who can’t shift. A vampire with a vendetta. What an unlikely duo we make.”

This story has everything! There is angst, wit, sexy time (wags eyebrows), and action, but all the same it will pull at your heartstrings. I cannot recommend this book enough!

#WOTR22 #Review – Analissa, Guardians of the Origin by Miranda Shanklin

Analissa: Guardians of the Origin by [Miranda Shanklin]

Everybody always knew that Analissa would be the new Leader of the Guardians of the Origin. She took it for granted that she would take over for her mother with her best friends by her side. It didn’t exactly work out the way that she thought it would. Now, she has to take on the new responsibility while her best friends moved on to something else, without her, while she tries to deal with her insecurities. When she finally meets her soul mate those insecurities are doubled. She knew she was not good enough for him. Ozias knew that he was not the type to find one person and settle down with her. He had yet to meet a woman that could hold his attention for even a first date. When he first saw Analissa all of his beliefs were put into question. Now, he is expected to walk away from his realm and take on responsibilities he didn’t ask for while trying to decide if he has been wrong about himself and what he believes. He is certain she would never want to be with him if she knew how he had treated women in the past. This is a new adult spin off the Soul Series and is intended for an older reader. This does contain some adult content and is not intended for young adult.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

This is an intriguing read full of emotion but most of all it is about overcoming the crazy obstacles life gives us. Analissa and her family, including aunts, uncles, and cousins, all live in the same home near the origin. The Origin has tasked the adults as the Guardians of the Origin. She always knew that she would become the leader but wasn’t ready for what was in store for her. Having your life determined for you before you were even born makes you question a lot about life. She found here soul mate, from another realm no less. Other species have not been together in the past and this tosses a curveball into the already crazy mess of emotions that she is going through. She is often questioning whether she actually wants to be with Ozias or if she is just supposed to be with him. On the other hand, he questions the same thing. They both go through what I call “normal” relationship issues with insecurities and what not but they do make it through. And it is a sweet love story.

“You were meant to help each other and be there for each other. Neither one of you is stuck with the other. Your souls were created to complete each other. You’re a part of each other.”

I really enjoyed the story. However, I was hoping for a bit more information regarding the Origin itself and possibly more action. They are the Guardians of the Origin, so I assumed that there were be some crazy fight that ensues. There is one, but it was more of a skirmish. I do look forward to reading the rest of these because I feel like there is so much more to unfold.

When a witch and a siren walk into a bar, no wait that’s not even a funny joke but that is how this story goes well not technically a bar but anyway. When the siren Rivka gets sent on a mission from the underwater mob to get salt to save their leader she ends up getting caught during a cyclone and get helps from Lesya who is a witch not a very good one but a witch none the less. All Lesya likes to do is stay to herself grow her garden and hang out with her puffins, she wasn’t in the mood to help Rivka but ends up letting her follow along and sending her on her way once they get to the next city after the cyclone ends. Getting captured by pirates wasn’t in the girls plans but it happened and they got them self’s into way more then they bargained for once they got locked in the holds will they get out and get help will Rivka finish her mission or will they die in the hands of the pirates. This is a wonderful well written story that has so many twist and turns (for the good) that you don’t see coming.

HEATHER MARIE ADKINS writes too much but still too little. She also has too many cats, not enough tequila, and a torrid love affair with procrastination.

Heather resides in southern Indiana with a sarcastic cop who is entirely too dependent on puns. When she’s not plotting her next story or herding felines, she’s researching the weird, witchy, and woefully spectral for Spirits & Spells Podcast.

Goodreads

Review by Kelly

I love all things supernatural and am a sucker for the lesser-known supernatural beings. With that being said, I was completely drawn in by the Harpy.  This is an action-packed quick read where the police force and the supernatural work together to take down the baddies. Harpies are a rare breed and there aren’t too many around. Once someone finds out what she is they always have something to say and want to see her shift. She is rather annoyed by this, but her wit and snark keep everyone on their toes. It’s Harper’s first day on the job and she is already going out on a job. Things go awry but they are able to obtain other information that take them to an even bigger crime ring. When things seem too easy, something is usually wrong. Well, the team soon finds the chink in the armor and things go crazy! I wish there was more back story for Harper and her boss, Elias (I am hoping for more in the next books). Some of the story felt a bit rushed. I do sense an underlying love story happening between Harper and Elias, so YAY! I love that a member of their team ended up being a cupid because we never hear about them in the supernatural community. This is a new author for me, but this story definitely has me intrigued.

#WOTR21 – #Review – The Amulets by J. Lawson

The Amulets (The Amulets Trilogy #1)

A centuries-old war, a lineage of magic thought long dead, and a girl desperately struggling to find her place.

Jordan has a secret; one that’s kept her intentionally antisocial. So, when new girl Georgia moves to town and begins working at the same bookstore, she is naturally apprehensive. Yet, discovering their unanticipated connection makes her question everything she’s ever believed.

When they discover unusual happenings linked to the old mill, they along with Sawyer, handsome grandson of the town crank, find themselves forced to investigate a potentially evil source of conflict threatening the safety of their town. Will Jordan and Georgia’s common gifts, along with Sawyer’s courage and charm, be enough to get the answers they need to save the town? Or does letting yourself care just mean you have more to lose?

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Who says we need less dreamers and more concrete intellects? Jordan’s boss! Psh! First, I love that our main character works in a bookstore and promotes fantasy books, just saying. The Amulets, for me, was a pure and wholesome young adult book. It was very sweet. Jordan is a shape-shifter and has kept this secret for many years. She is afraid if she gets close to someone that she will ultimately lose them because they won’t understand. This is something she struggles with throughout the story. Their small town is truly a small town. Everyone knows everyone and you only fall into a few different categories with school and work. And, if you make it out, you don’t come back. Until Georgia shows up one day to work at the same store as Jordan. These two are definitely kindred spirits and you can feel the bond forming right from jump. Their friendship is something most of us wish we had. Then we have Sawyer, a super cute guy who brings them coffee! Score! Jordan and Georgia are both shapeshifters and Sawyer is not. The secrets now become very delicate. On top of this, the town has lost their dang mind! This causes the trio to do some investigative work which ends up getting really hairy in the end. And when I say hairy, I truly mean hairy. Reality can be just as crazy as the stuff people imagine.

The story started a bit slow for me but I think with this being the first in the trilogy the world building was needed. It is super sweet too. No swearing and no crazy make-out sessions. There are a couple kisses shared between Jordan and Sawyer, and they were perfect. I definitely think that this is geared toward a younger YA group. Once the story got moving, it was hard to put down. And now that I reached the end I need to know what happens next.

#WOTR21 – #Review – It’s a Wonderful Midlife Crisis (Good to the Last Death #1) by Robyn Peterman

It's A Wonderful Midlife Crisis (Good To The Last Death, #1)

A Paranormal Women’s Fiction with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!

Whoever said life begins at forty must have been heavily medicated, drunk, or delusional.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good.

But as they say, all good things come to an end. I’d honestly love to know who ’they’ are and rip them a new one.

One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed and breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job—deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there. I think they need my help, but since I don’t speak dead, we’re having a few issues.

To add to the heap of trouble, there’s a new dangerously smokin’ hot lawyer at the firm who won’t stop giving me the eye. My BFF is
thrilled with her new frozen face, thanks to her plastic surgeon, her alimony check, and the miracle of Botox. And then there’s the little conundrum that I’m becoming way too attached to my ghostly squatters… Like Cher, I’d like to turn back time. Now.

No can do.

Whatever. I have wine, good friends, and an industrial sized box of superglue. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything, apparently.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful midlife crisis…

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

This is a fun and quirky story about Daisy’s midlife crisis. Here she is tooling along in life and suddenly becomes a widow..that’s not the funny part, I promise. Things go haywire at her job and now she sees dead people. OMG, how sixth sense is that?! Her grandmother tries to explain things but Daisy finds herself fumbling along trying to figure out what it is she is supposed to be doing. These ghosts won’t go away, their parts are falling off and she is gluing them back on, she can’t get any work done, and she has an amazingly sexy man that keeps pushing himself into her life. Oh, but wait! There’s more! We find out some secrets about her husband too! This book is a riot! “Midlife was more than a series of crises. It was a freaking destination, and the ride was seriously bumpy.” While some of it was a bit corny, it was seriously funny and definitely heart-warming. I really needed a pick me up and something different from the usual paranormal romance-y type stuff. This was just what I needed. Bravo, Robyn! I look forward to continuing this journey!

#WOTR21 #Review – An Unexpected Brew: A Cinderella Story by J.E. Mueller

An Unexpected Brew: A Cinderella Story (A Fairytale Adventure #1)

A modern magical retelling of the classic Cinderella tale.

After years of working at the family coffee shop under her step-mom’s rule, Arnessa longs for something more. She dreams of leaving her small town to attend a bigger college where she can really learn her magic. As hope slowly seems to fade, a charming stranger offers to help her with her studies, and turns her fears into a reason to stand up for herself.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Delightfully charming! This was a super sweet twist on Cinderella. Cinderella and the prince both have a little magic of their own. All of the Cinderella elements were here but it was very modern and made it fun to read. Arnessa works at the coffee shop but so does one of her evil step sisters, Diamond. And she is a peach, NOT! Diamond lays claim to a guy who wants nothing to do with Diamond and everything to do with Arnessa. And due to said claim, the other evil step sister and evil stepmother come rearing their ugly heads. Since this is a retelling, it runs its natural course and there is the wonderful HEA. However, I really liked this retelling because they got to know each other. It wasn’t one night and then we have to match a shoe to a foot and that whole fiasco. This has a truly great “getting to know you” love story and it was adorable! If you need something super sweet that will lift you up, you should definitely give this a try.
