#Review #AudioBook – Attaboy by Sam Tallent

From Sam Tallent, author of the hit indie novel Running the Light, which Marc Maron calls “a beautiful rendering of a dark reality”, comes a story about poverty, addiction, and bare-knuckle boxing set in the shadows of the American heartland.
Teenaged Jesse is trapped. Growing up, he had all the potential in the world, but then real life intervened. Now he’s got a high school diploma, two perpetually black eyes, and a pill fix he can’t shake. By day, when he’s not high on pain killers, Jesse is hardening his body; it’s the only thing about his life that he can really control. By night, he’s a god in the makeshift ring under the barnyard flood lights, willing to take on any local tough the Madsen brothers put in front of him. Most of Jesse’s fights don’t last more than a minute or two. But as competition in town dries up, the Madsens go looking for better fights and bigger risks – with the chance for bigger payouts. Even as Jesse’s home life is closing in on him, he must find a way to win one more fight.
It’s the only chance he’s got.

This story was short but it was pretty intense.
It was also quite inspiring for a future book I’m writing but that’s a story
for another day.

We meet Jesse who is poor and needs to save up
some money for his sick grandmother. Also, battling with an addiction, he
learns to fight. He realizes that it’s one of the only things he’s able to
control. But the more he fights people in his town, the less opponents he has
as he pretty much fights anyone who’s willing to take him on. While he’s
hardened up, broken and bruised, the money starts rolling in and he can’t stop.
His grandmother’s medical bills aren’t cheap.

Jesse’s sister hates seeing him this way and
does what she can to make it so he can stop fighting. I liked the twist at the
end. It’s a desparate time, calls for desparate measures kind of situation.

This book was definitely short but I liked the
author’s descriptive story telling. It was like I could see Jesse’s fights and
what he looked like after the fact. I do wish the book was a little longer but
that’s just me and doesn’t take away from the story at all.

After getting the courage to talk to Jude about my little fantasy regarding his stepsister, I was surprised but elated that he agreed to go along with it.

My crush turned into more.

Alluring, sultry, provocative….hot, Hot, HOT! Right here is where you can stop reading my words and start reading J.M.’s words! But if you insist on going further reading my review, I need to say that right from the very beginning this story is sizzling. *wags eyebrows* Believe me, you want to read this at home and in one sitting. Jude and Mia have an intense relationship, and both realize that they want more. They love each other but they want to play… together, but with another person. They have never approached another person before and are unsure how to do so but little do they know that when they do, the heat that they cause would melt the coldest iceberg. Seriously, why are you still reading this? Go! Read Her Little!

#wotr21 #attendingauthor #novella #DualReview -Quinton (Ariel Kimber 6.6) by Mary Martel

Quinton Alexander is the head of his coven, or so he thinks.

He’s the type of man who would go to any extreme to protect his loved ones, and he’s also the type of man who would do anything it took to make sure they are all happy.

He grew up in a way that taught him that the only thing that really mattered in this whole world was keeping the people you love safe—a lesson he learned at a very young age from his twisted, sadistic father.

But sometimes in a man’s life, it’s nice to know that the people you love care just as much about you as you do them. Sometimes, it’s nice to be able to put yourself first for once.

Especially when it comes to the girl of your dreams, whom you have to share with the rest of your coven.

When it comes down to it, though, who’s going to go to extremes to protect the leader of the coven when he needs it? Who’s going to keep him safe? Or is he going to have to do what he always does and look after himself?

Quinton Alexander is an Ariel Kimber Novella. It’s a part of a reverse harem series. It contains mature content and is best suited for readers 18+.

My future baby daddy finally gets his own POV novella!!  Franz it did NOT disappoint.

So Quint/Uncle Quinton/Uncle Panty Thief loves our girl Ariel with a fierceness that even he is scared of and shocked by.  He will do anything to show her how much he loves her even buying her things he never in a million year would have thought of buying AND well..trying to keep them for himself.  LOL

I loved this book because we get to see what is actually in his head and at times, he is a bit of a drama queen.  LOL  For real baby let go of the secret thread ok!! Ok!!  But we get to see him bonding with Ariel and Tyson…and yeah, its good bonding *wink* What I really loved was finally seeing what happened to him as a child.  I mean we kinda knew his dad was all kinda of awful but year having him relive moments made me hurt for the little boy he was.

I enjoyed meeting new characters and wonder what crazy Finn will bring into the coven’s lives plus how will Bone and Ash respond to the family.  But I am so ready for the next book…..and maybe a little Salt and Pepper Twin loving!!!

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

This novella is everything you want for a short, quick read on a cold and dreary day.  Gah I wanted to read by the pool and instead I’m reading with a hoodie …in JUNE!!  Crazy!

This novella is a short read with so many possibilities for future books and I am here for them.  Sam and Grady will be a delicious read for another day.  But this book is about nerdy, hot bartender Levi and recently divorced Kenzie who quits her job and runs to the beautiful lake for the summer.  She needs to figure things out and figures them right in to the hot bartender’s bed…wiggle eyes.

The book is a jump through the summer where we are seeing scenes from Kenzie and her time with Levi, Sam, and her bestie Devin.  We see the start of something more with Levi which FREAKS Kenzie out.  She must make some decisions about her life and possible love before the end of the month.

I liked the novella and how it jumped through time.  We get to see the relationship develop and we see her building bonds with people which makes the thought of leaving tough.  I loved the end and the resolution and hope for more quick reads from the other side characters as well.

I bought this book and this my honest opinion

Oh Dash our loving, dark brooding, scared soul, ginger its his turn his story and I’m all for it. Dash is trying to find his place in life learning how to move on after the horrible house fire that took place at his cottage. Getting drunk and smashing shit with a sledgehammer, wasn’t the answer he was looking for, getting help from his brothers and Ariel would be the thing that helps him relax a bit, move on, and learn to realize that you can still have a memory without having a place to live where all horrible things happened to you. Ahh i jut over this novella Dash is just someone you want to hug and tell them everything is going to be ok.

#wotr #attendingauthor #novella #partofaseries Rain Kimber (Ariel Kimber 5.5) by Mary Martel

Rain Kimber thought that finding his daughter and finally being able to be a part of her life after so many years without her would be the end of his adventure.

He thought he’d find her, take care of the woman who’d stolen his child away from him (you don’t want to know), and then the two of them would immediately become the family they’d been before she’d been taken. Rain would soon learn that life didn’t always work out the way you wanted it to, and really? That was a lesson he should have learned a long time ago.

But it wasn’t all about heartbreak for Rain. With his daughter he gained an entire Coven of family, even the ones he didn’t want. What father got along with all of his daughter’s boyfriends? Not Rain, that’s for sure.

Just as life wasn’t all about heartache anymore for Rain didn’t mean it was all about happiness and rainbows either. The Alexander Coven, the one his daughter had joined, seemed to be a magnet for trouble and Ariel Kimber was right in the middle of it. Which meant Rain was right there with her.

And he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Oh its time to get into the head of dear old daddy. Rain has finally been giving back what a was taken from him all those years ago, he can finally be a dad to Ariel and that’s what’s he’s wanted to rekindle that relationship. But when they go on a adventure to find the female witch that came into the shop they got more then they bargained for she has a child and she was dying. So now Rain not only had to figure out how to parent a teenager but now a child who wasn’t his. With the help from Ariel and her guys will they be able to help keep this little boy from the council or will they all fail. This story from Rains point of view was so good eyeing what made him tick and why for that very reason it happened.

I bought this book and this is my honest opinion

Mara had one thing on her mind to kill her foster dad and get him to stop hurting her and her little sister, she did just that but she had no idea that powerful supernatural elders were watching her. They needed an assassin and they wanted her for the job. They promised riches and a place to live which what 16 year old would turn that down when she was on the run and living in a tent under a bridge. She is learning how to handle her new found powers and life and just finding out her best friend was a shifter she just couldn’t wrap her he’d around what her life had become now.

Jewels Arthur has lived in Central Illinois her entire life, she is a small town girl at heart and is terrified of city life. She grew up on a farm with 27 barn cats, video games, movies, and books to keep her company. She is obsessed with romance and swoon. Especially the paranormal type — humans are truly overrated.

As a hopeless romantic she wants everyone around her to be in love and wants to read about love all the time. She got married at 19 (suprise suprise) and she had a beautiful baby girl 3 years later when she finished college. She graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies. Her obsession with love led her to decide that she needed to write her own swoony books, with a bit of dirty of course 😉

Five friends that all come from different walks of life but come together at camp every summer. One rule they have made is that they don’t talk about life at home, and they always come to campfire at the end of the evening before bed. Camp brought them together and they look out for each other, but keeping how they handle things back home a secret is harder then some of them thought will their friendships stay true as camp is almost over or will it keep them apart and wishing they never went to camp in the first place. This was such a fun teen story that made you wish you went to summer camp when you were younger or made you remember the times you went if you did.

Danielle Keil grew up and spent the majority of her life in the Chicagoland area. A recent transplant, she is enjoying the Mississippi life, especially the pool in her backyard.

Danielle is happily married for over 10 years, and has two young children, a daughter and a son, who are exact replicas of her and her husband.

She also is a fur mom to their Corgi, Cozmo, who loves barking, mud, and peanut butter.

Danielle’s love language is gifts, her Ennegram is a 9w1, and she loves everything purple.
