Blood Freed (Blood Ravagers, #2)

Elizabeth “Liz” Frost has always been the wild one. But now, with a niece or nephew on the way and her promise to become half of the new psychic Oracle team for the Blood Ravagers Biker Gang, she’s ready to turn over a new leaf. And what better way to start than by answering the call when gang leader Dante needs help? Her mission: to travel cross-country to get the information the gang needs to complete the Oracle Binding Ceremony. Should be easy, right? Except for the incredibly tempting lone-wolf shifter named Dex who’ll be her riding partner and protector on the journey.

Dexter “Dex” MacCallahan is tasked with guarding Liz Frost, one of the gang’s beautiful and bewildering new psychics. Dex can’t refuse the mission, but there’s one small problem. The time of his Rut is approaching, a rare occurrence where male wolf-shifters must physically bond with their chosen mate or face certain insanity and death. It could cost him not only the new life he’s built, but also his battered, scarred heart.

Together, Dex and Liz must search for the information they need before his old nemesis and a rival gang annihilates all they hold dear. But when the simmering chemistry between them boils over into searing hot passion, will they risk losing their hearts to save the ones they love?

Goodreads

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.

Man was I loving this book.  I sat and couldn’t put it down.  I was loving Liz, Dex, and Rev in the first book.  I gotta admit I wasn’t sure which guy I wanted Liz with.  Hell, I would have been thrilled with a little MFM action!!  But when I got to see the dynamics between Liz and Dex, they totally belong together.

Liz has lived in the shadow of her sister Anna forever. She never thought she was enough, so she took on the party girl, cant be hurt persona.  She wasn’t content to sit but needed to travel.  She need adventure and the thought of settling down to be the Blood Ravagers Oracle kinda scared her a bit.  But she demanded the right to go and figure out what was missing for the spell to bind her, her sister, and the guys together.

Dex has had a rough life.  A lone wolf hiding from his past and the horrors of his family’s murders.  He is not a fan of The Council and will always protect the guys in the Blood Ravagers.    When he is told to go and help Liz, he flips out.  His rut will be happening, and he is already attracted to his alpha’s sister in law.  Nothing good can come of this especially when the alpha demands you leave her alone…hand off!!

Dex and Liz go through a lot to realize they bother are MORE then they think they are.  They both have a lot of opening and soul searching to happen to finally realize they too deserve a HEA.  The angst is great.  The “rutting scenes” are fun times to read 😉 but the connection they both make and the realizations they make on this journey turn their lives upside down.

Rev………GAH…where is my older then dirty vampire.  What has happened to him?  I so need to read and see how the guys save this dark soul.

#WOTR – #Review – Pursuit of the Raven (The Union book 3) by Shawn Reilly

Pursuit of the Raven (The Union Series #3)

Asher Lake, a wolf in his ani-shift form and Keeper to his people and the protégé’s left in his care, knows what he wants. He wants to reform the Union, become a better man, and test fate. Determined that Elle Ison has a place in his life, he sets out to discover just what that place is—while pursuing the one thing that might open doors to provide answers, to the curse hanging over his life, namely his stolen medallion.

Elle Ison, along with Asher’s brothers, Ari and Nixon, share two specific things in common—a love for Asher—and a desire to keep him alive anyway they can. Even if that means setting off on a fool’s quest or making certain sacrifices to keep him that way.

Goodreads

This isn’t some fairytale where the hero wins….This is the absolute truth about this series! Time is not on Asher’s side. And this is proving difficult for the entire Lake family. I have to be honest. At the beginning of the series I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Asher or not. Due to him being so closed off trying to protect himself he is a bit socially inept. But in this book we really see him evolving and now I don’t know what we would do without the one and only Asher Lake (and his mints). Actually all the characters are evolving. Asher wants to be a better man, wants to do good things for the Ani-shift community but there are others that are going to stand in his way. You can tell he wants to love too. Oooh how he wants to let it all go! At least this is what I read into it anyway, haha! As he starts to trust and opens up to be trusted all hell starts to break loose. All of the Lakes share a love for Asher and they will do anything to keep him alive. There are secrets that are being discovered. But with answers always come more questions. The new questions and the decisions that are being made will continue to keep you on the edge of your seat and trying to figure out the next move. Look out too because this one will throw you for a loop!

When it seemed like I was only an F away from flunking out of the sixth grade, a retired schoolteacher took me under her wing. After some tutoring and testing, she informed my parents that the reason I was having trouble in school wasn’t that I was dumb but instead dyslexic. When my stepfather heard this, he decided to take me to a used bookstore with the belief that the best way to improve my reading skills was to read. Some of the books were hard to get through at first, but with his encouragement, I refused to give up. We made many trips to that bookstore, and I especially loved the science fiction and fantasy sections. Then one day, after complaining about the ending of a particular book, my stepfather told me that if I didn’t like the books that I had been reading, then to write one myself—so I did.

My first attempt resulted in a horribly written western when I was fourteen, staring a cocky gun-slinging cowboy by the name Curt Calhoun. Curt along with his seven brothers, who all shared C names in common, may never have seen the pages of a book, but that was the day I started writing, and never stopped.

Shawn Reilly lives in Mt. Comfort Indiana. She has three beautiful and talented daughters, one very loving and supportive husband, and an overweight American Pitt Bull Terrier named Noah. When she’s not writing she’s spending time with her family, boating and fishing, and attending signings. She is the author of The Union series and The Children of the Alliance Trilogy. She supports those with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and animal rescue.

#WOTR18 #Review #NewRelease – Outcast, A Good Guys Novel by Jamie Schossler

OUTCAST

KAYLA
My infatuation with Ezra Johnson started how all obsessions begin—with a simple crush. Over the years I silently soaked up every shy smile and random act of kindness, wrestling them away to a secret place in my heart meant for unrequited love.
Because if it wasn’t for the fact that I tutor him once a week, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t even know I exist.
Then I find his sketchbook.
And it changes everything.

EZRA
There are two certainties in my life: I’ve been in love with Kayla Reynolds since I was fourteen, and I can’t have her.
I’ve spent years settling for a two-dimensional fantasy world, capturing her beauty with a pencil and paper. She’s kind, smart, gorgeous…
And she belongs to someone else.
Or so I thought.
An interesting turn of events makes me realize things aren’t always how they appear on the outside, and now I’ve got my chance to be the man she deserves.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been called a loser. The cripple. An outcast.
But maybe—just maybe—this time the good guy won’t finish last.

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.

OH MAN!!  Ezra!!  I gotta say it.  This is my favorite book of the series. FAVORITE!!!  Ezra and Kayla are such a great read!!

Ezra and Kayla are both blind to the way the other feels about them.  He thinks he is the gimp with the limp and the squishy belly guy so no way would this beautiful girl like him let alone LOOK at him THAT WAY.

Sure Kayla is a popularish girl who is seen as another guys girlfriend but little does everyone know what is really happening between Gavin and Kayla.  Side Note: Gavin needs a book.  He needs some love Jamie!!!

Ok back to the review.  When Kayla discovers Ezra’s secret she decided to go after what she wants buuuut is stunned he pushed her away.  The couple spend the summer writing letters and forming an amazing bond that will help them when they go away to the same college in a few months.

Ezra is such a great guy.  He feels even though he has changed a bit physically he is still not enough for Kayla and makes a few stupid decisions…but I mean even he says Guys do stupid things…..

Kayla is such a sensitive person.  She really loves her people with her entire heart.  She doesn’t let a lot of people in but when she does, you are set for life with her.  Looking at all the people she helps in her life from Gavin to Paul shows the amazing character she has and strength to know when to do the right thing.  Shauna is also a great person for her to connect with and she will help her grow in her charitable contributions.

There is just so much about this story that I love and I wasn’t able to put the book down because I needed to know what would happen….how would the first kiss go?  How would the first of OTHER things go? *wink*  But I loved seeing the two grow as a couple and as individuals in the story.

Goodreads

Oh holy hotness! Whew! Ask no questions, tell no lies. Kinyi is one fierce Draqon female who I loved to hate. When I first met her I wanted to throat punch her but as I got to know her in the Draqon’s Hero I found out that she is just misunderstood. She is sent to Earth to find the White Horn. As she is scouring the worst areas she locates him in Cyn City. The problem is that Tane, aka White Horn, has no want or desire to go back to Kladuu. He has his reasons but Kinyi is relentless. Tane runs an underground fight club and Kinyi ends up being in the middle trying to prove herself to Tane. All hell breaks loose and they find out that Gideon is missing. Kinyi just knows that he is on Kladuu and know she must find a way back home. Tane feels an undeniable pull to Kinyi and vows to help her get home but has no plans on going with. Until….. well I can’t give it away but he does go home. Both of these characters are incredibly strong and independent. Both have their secrets and fears. But when these unravel it will blow your mind! The story starts in gritty Cyn City and ends on Kladuu but there is never a dull moment with these two. No matter how much I didn’t like Kinyi at first, she made it up to me with Tane. This is my favorite of the series. It is bittersweet as I don’t want the series to end but it is set up beautifully for the next series in Cyn City! I am hoping we might see some of the Kladuu characters in Cyn City, but only time will tell. Bravo, Pearl! You rocked this!

Goodreads

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.

This is the 2nd story of the series.  I loved the first book so when Victoria asked if I wanted an ARC of this book, I jumped!!!

This is the story of Domnall and Davina…the story goes from when they were 10-year olds through adulthood.

Domnall was the son of 2 kings and the rightful heir to the throne.  His grandfather, The current King, annulled his parent’s marriage which leaves him untitled annnnnnd viewed as a BASTARD!!  Gasp!  He has made it his life long goal to avenge his rightful lands.  Along the way to his father, he finds a slaughtered family who’s only remaining member is a young girl.

Davina is  the daughter of a knight.  Her entire family was murdered, and she was saved by Domnall.  She finds herself living as a ward of the King but because she does have lands, the king can decide who she is to marry when she is old enough.

Domnall and Davina have some lessons to learn about trust, the court and family.  Their love story is so very enthralling.  There is mystery and deceit along the way for the couple

#WOTR – #Review – Halfway Drowned (Halfway Witchy #4) by Terry Maggert

Halfway Drowned (Halfway Witchy, #4)

Something is wrong with Carlie.

A magical storm. An ancient shipwreck. A hidden evil.
All three are tied together as Carlie must defend Wulfric against his past, which emerges after a raging storm tears across Halfway Lake.
When government agents descend on Halfway to investigate the mysterious shipwreck, Carlie discovers that all is not as it seems.

A thousand years old, the Viking ship holds bones. And secrets.
Not everyone went down with the ship. There were survivors, but they might be less than human. They cross paths with Carlie in a showdown that will bring her own secrets to light, for saving Wulfric came with a cost. Now, it’s time for her to pay.

Dive in with Carlie as she fights to save the one person she can’t lose.
Herself.

Goodreads

“The time for pure magic was past. It was time to bring out my b***hcraft.” Yep, this is Carlie! She is our resident witch of Halfway that has an incredible talent for waffles and has an amazing love for Vikings (hey Wulfric!).

If you have followed this series you know that Carlie is our resident witch of Halfway and she does not take kindly to “visitors” (the things that go bump in the night) wreaking havoc on her beloved town. Out of the blue a Viking ship surfaces in the lake and this brings all the visitors to gawk and the government to come investigate. Things aren’t always what they seem and Carlie is a pro at this stuff. However, this ship hits home for Wulfric and brings up his very distant past. While they are both trying to work through the craziness that this ship has brought on they are both battling other demons. Wulfric is dealing with his past and Carlie has to deal with her future. Carlie is a very strong and resilient character but is very down to earth. And her love for her town and family is ginormous! Include the craziness that they are dealing with and her snarky remarks and this story will have you laughing out loud and the next minute having you deep in thought trying to figure out the next move. This is one of those stories that will suck you in from the beginning and keep a strong witchy hold on you until the very end.

At the risk of giving any spoilers I am going to give you a couple of my favorite lines:

My words were lost in a rumble of thunder that shook the air in my chest. Raindrops the size of baked potatoes slapped against my skin in a constant, frigid pounding, driven by the vicious wind. The howling rain felt like a car wash run by sadistic gods, determined to scour off my skin.

I am many things, but my humanity and witchcraft would coil around each other like warring serpents until dawn, when I would ask and answer a power far greater than my own soul. The answer I was granted would determine nothing less important than the rest of my life, but the need to ask the question was overpowering. I could not go on without knowing, and for Wulfric’s sake – and my own – I would not be denied.

In other words, you must read this! P.S. Be sure to check all the covers out. They are some of my favorite!

#WOTR – #Review – Sterling (Black Mountain Pack Book 3) by Miranda Lynn

Sterling (Black Mountain Pack Book 3)

Feeling the need for a change, fox-shifter, Sterling accepts a mission in Texas to help a struggling pack’s club. The situation is worse than they thought when they arrive but when Sterling meets Reana he know he’s found he’s been given a second chance to have a mate . Too bad she doesn’t want one.

Reana is one of the few in her pack not effected by the black magic affecting them. When Sterling came to town, she thought he’d be the answer to their problems with the Resistance. She wasn’t expecting a possessive mate ready to settle down just when she’s ready to take off.

Time is running out and Sterling needs Reana’s help to save the pack before they’re forever trapped in this web of magic wreaking havoc on all their lives. But Reana isn’t sure she can accept fate and her mate, just as she’s ready to leave pack life behind for a life of solitude. Will Sterling change her mind and get his second chance? Or will Reana’s strong will keep them both from the happiness they deserve?

Goodreads

Yaaasssss! Love this!!!! I thoroughly enjoy the Black Mountain Pack series. Each book centers on a different shifter and Sterling got his shot! I love me some Sterling! One of the biggest things about his past is that he had a mate and she died. He is sort of in a slump with everything that has been going on with the pack and decides to take on a mission that takes him from his home and pack. Something is shady in another pack and there is a resistance that doesn’t want shifters mixing in packs. He and his crew go to infiltrate. Here is where we meet Rea. She is a waitress at a club but this club has got some serious restrictions. Low and behold she is a fox too!!!! And these two foxes want, no, they need each other. While Sterling and his group are in the middle of the turmoil of trying to find out what the issues are with this pack, Sterling is having a hard time keeping his mind off of Rea. Rea has had it ingrained in her that she can’t have a mate because leaving her pack will mean certain death. She tries and tries to maintain herself around Sterling but neither can help the undeniable pull. While they are orchestrating a strategy to take this shady pack down they have a budding relationship that is incredible to witness. The snarkiness that Miranda Lynn brings to the story along with all the action, and let us not forget the sexy time, really makes this story come to life. They are normal people who happen to be shifters. And they become the shifters that we love! Sterling is one of my favorites yet and I am looking forward to meeting the new members of the pack. Bravo, bring on the next one!

#Review #Shifter The Blackstone Bear (Blackstone Mountain 3) by Alicia Montgomery

Ben Walker’s bear is out of control and he can’t let anyone know, not even his family and closest friends. The darkness inside is threatening to consume him, but when he meets Penny, he knows she’s the one: his mate, the one who can calm his bear. And for once in his life, he feels he has a bright future ahead.

Even though she’s human, Blackstone has become a sanctuary for Penny Bennet. It’s the place where she could start over and escape the scorn of the people from her past. When Ben suddenly declares she’s the one his bear chose, she’s not sure if she believes him. After all, why would he want to be with the girl from the wrong side of the tracks?

When an unknown threat puts his family in danger, Ben must take the lead to protect everyone and everything he holds dear. But, can he also convince Penny she’s his forever mate, before it’s too late?

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

Holy bearded brooding bear!!!
Ben is the Lennox’s cousin, he is a bear shifter, and works at the mines with his cousins.
I love a brooding bearded man and that he is a bear shifter just makes it all the more awesome.
Penny is a new waitress at the bar in town called The Den. She had moved back into the area to take care of her dying dad and now that he has passed she has to stay until she builds her funds back up before she can return to Texas. She is a shy girl and has thought that Ben was hot since they bumped into each of their at his cousin’s bachelor party at the bar, but he has no clue she’s around. Until he gets a whiff of her, then he and his bear notice her as their mate.
In this story Montgomery gives us a man who is sure that his other side is a monster and a woman that can calm that monster, that man taking the time to woo that woman (not just take her and mate her), another Lennox wedding, and some crazy a** relatives.
I love Montgomery’s shifters, she always leaves me wanting more.

#WOTR – #Review – Shifter’s Pride (Spirit Walker’s Saga Thrillers Book 2) by Laura Hawks

Shifter's Pride (Spirit Walker's Saga Thrillers Book 2)

Detectives Shaw and Shade are more than your average crime solvers; they are Spirit Walkers.

When they catch a gruesome murder, they’re able to discern the killer has been active since the end of WW2 and the number of killings seem to be increasing in frequency.

They have one lead – Feather Woods – who appears to have known each of the victims. Is she being stalked or is she the culprit?

The detectives race to find out before Shade becomes the next victim.

Goodreads

This is a supernatural shifter thriller with some great history. This is book two in the saga but can be read as a standalone. I did not read the first but am incredibly intrigued to do so. At the very beginning we get some of the gruesome. There has been a murder and it was one of Feather’s best friends. Then another murder and it seems to be linked with Feather again. The detectives that interview her are shifters as well and know more of the history of Feather along with her brother, Raine. Ren, the lead detective, knows Feather from the 1800’s and soon Feather is reminded of who he is. Ren instantly wants to help Feather but his partner, Apple Shade, thinks Feather is the reason for the murders. This story goes back and forth between the 1800’s, WW2 and the present. There have been multiple murders over the past years that fit the same as these current murders. Now they are delving deep into the past to try and find the serial killer. While they are all investigating they find that they are all in danger. While they are leaning on each other some major feeling develop and then we get some sweet sexy time (wags eyebrows). But the way that this entire story unfolds, along with the back and forth from past and present, really keeps you on your toes. There are many twists and turns but at the risk of giving spoilers I am recommending this to everyone. It is very interesting and intriguing. This is a first for me from Laura Hawks but won’t be the last!

Legend of the Raven (The Union Series #2)

When Elle Ison finally flees from a five-year abusive relationship, she finds that freedom is still just beyond her grasp. She has no place to run, no money and no options.
That is until a band of mysterious, good-looking heroes come to her rescue, sweeping Elle up into the world of ani-shifts, humans with the ability to shift into animal form. Elle becomes mesmerized by the magic of their world—one she believed only existed in her imagination—and the mystery surrounding the Lake family. Especially the intimidating Asher Lake who is charged with leading the secret organization of shifters known as the Union, and the protégés left in his care.
Elle is lost and lonely—and wants nothing more than to be part of a real family, even one as broken and dysfunctional as the Lakes. But if Elle chooses to stay, she must bind herself all over again—this time by archival laws which dictate that she make a commitment to a man who has vowed never to fall in love. For Elle, this means forfeiting the one dream she has never realized.
Elle must weigh her options: should she give in and relinquish her right to dream of love…or will she leave the safety of Lake Manor behind, along with the family she has come to care for—and never look back.

The fates are at it again…or is it destiny?

“It’s hard living with the things I can’t change. I don’t want to see guilt and regret staring back at me in the mirror every day of my life.” Being afraid to live, to really live is, is a common theme in the Lake household. If you are reading this I hope that you have read Call of the Raven as the Legend of the Raven picks up right where we left off.

After the intense ending of the first book we are brought right into the madness that makes up the Lakes. We get to really get to know the Lakes and the protégés. Each one has their quirks and differences. Elle, however, is taking things in stride. She has more or less been given an ultimatum. It’s one that keeps her safe and taken care of for her entire life. But there is a contract involved between her and Asher. I am not one for giving spoilers but we are met with a tragic event at the beginning and this has all of them on edge. As time goes on we really, REALLY, get to know the characters and learn much more of the Union and Council. Plus we get to get inside Asher’s head! (swoon) Asher is the keeper who vowed to never love and not to fall in love so that he doesn’t get called by the raven to his certain death. Elle being in the picture now has changed everything. Asher is breaking. Elle is getting comfortable. And they are all coming together as a family. With Grant’s daughter in the home with them it seems that Grant has been visiting her. Now on the hunt for Mary’s mom and any clue on what Grant was doing to try and break the curse everyone has been on high alert. With the Gothi around, the Blackbirds, and traitor lurking around things get really intense.

One of my favorite things about the series so far is that this shifter story is not the same as any others I have read. They are ani-shifts that are normal people but with different laws and some pretty cool abilities. The world building is amazing and the characters….well the characters you fall in love with. Each one has their own quirks and issues. We all can relate or know someone that is similar to each and every one of them. The intensity with the twists and turns make this a page turner. I couldn’t wait to see what happened and have already started book 3. I am hooked!!!
