Cole's Salvation (Black Hills Shifters, #1)

Cole is the oldest of his siblings and is their clan’s alpha, since the death of his father. He gave up long ago thinking he would ever find his mate.

For months he’s been restless, on the verge of coming unglued. When his sister sets him up on a blind date, he almost loses it. She should know he’d only ever date his mate. When his sister refuses to cancel the date, he goes to let her down gently only to find that his mate is waiting for him.

Follow the Major family, a group of black bear shifters living in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Dealing with the death of their father and hiding their shifting abilities from the small town they’re from is nothing compared to the moment they meet their mates and claim them as theirs.

These are safe, interconnected novellas, guaranteed happily ever afters, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you glued to your Kindle.

Goodreads

I purchased this book.

Who doesn’t love a shifter series??  I mean they are my jam!  So when I saw a series written by 2 new to me authors, I jumped.  Another thing I loved was the fact the series is about a family of bear shifters.  I love books with the theme of family strongly woven into the theme of the book.

This book starts out with Cole’s alpha father being found murdered.  Now fast forward and he is a grumpy alpha shifter dealing with his 3 siblings.  He loves them but they are kinda on his last nerve.

When his only sister butts in and sets him up on a blind date at a sleezy bar, he goes just to save the girl from being taken advantage of.  When he enters…BOOM…his life changes in an instant.

Aubree loves her new friend but she is not to sure about this whole blind date thing.  When she sees a growly man entering the bar she is scared and intrigued at the same time over who he is.  The sparks fly immediately between the two and they soon are navigating this mating pull.

Cole was killing me with his over the top alpha bossy but Aubree sure put him in his place and let him know Girlfriend is not playing that way.

The story reintroduced the murder plot because the bad people are around again, so Cole and his siblings are trying to keep Aubree safe while investigating what’s happening.

I totally enjoyed the story buuuuuuut …here is when the shoe drops……I would recommend getting another editing of the story.  I am NOT a huge grammar Nazi but this book has several spots where I had to stop and reread to decipher what it should have said.  There were spots where the story didn’t flow very well and was a bit choppy.  However, even with those issues I am still looking forward to book 2!!

#WOTR19 #NewRelease #Giveaway #Novella #ChapterReveal – Wes, Love in Scrubs book 3 by AJ Renee

Wes

From the author of the St. Fleur series comes a fun tale of finding love in the emergency room.

Nurse. Mom. Daughter. Natalia Kruze wore many hats, but mom was the role she was most proud of. As a single mom, she couldn’t be everywhere at once, but she had been blessed with a patient son and helpful parents. Dating wasn’t high on the priority list, so it was safe to say it had been years since she’d experienced any kind of electrifying spark from a man.

With her defenses low after missing another soccer game, a patient catches her eye. Sexy and decidedly stubborn, Wes Wilkins succeeds in leaving his ER visit with her number.

Had they finally found the love they deserved, or will they put their dreams second to their kids’ needs?

CHAPTER REVEAL:

Chapter One

Natalia

“Jeremy!” I yell and stare at the pile of clothes next to the hamper.

“What?”

My eyes narrow on my son’s beautiful face, and I remind myself how much I adore him. “Excuse me?”

“Yes, ma’am?”

I nod. “Were you working on your basketball skills and failed?”

Jeremy looks from me to the pile I’m still pointing at. “Oh.”

I exhale with exasperation. “Look, honey, we need to work like a team. Please clean up. I need to get you to school so I can start my shift. Don’t forget I won’t make it to today’s game. I’ll be home right after, so grab a ride with Mrs. Sanders if Grandma and Pops aren’t there.”

After kissing his temple, seeing as I can no longer reach the top of his head, I rush to plate the breakfast I threw together for us. This is my life. It may not have turned out like I dreamed, but I wouldn’t trade Jeremy in for the world.

I was a young mother at twenty-one—not quite a teen pregnancy but still hard. Jeremy’s father decided rather quickly fatherhood wasn’t for him and left us the moment two lines appeared. Thankfully, my parents stepped in and helped us. I managed to finish my Bachelor of Science in nursing with their assistance. I can’t count the number of times I showed up to class with spit-up on me. I’m sure if they swabbed my clothes in one of my labs, they would have found all sorts of new-mother fun.

After fourteen years of doing the parenting gig on my own, I can safely say it’s still a challenge. Dating is rare, and my parents are still around to help. I don’t ask for a lot of help now that Jeremy is older, but they still have us visit often.

Jeremy runs into the kitchen, backpack in hand, and picks up the fork on his plate. In a matter of moments, the plate is devoid of the eggs and toast I put on it. My kid looks up at me and to the stove, looking for the pan I already put in the dishwasher. “No more?”

“Grab a banana. We gotta go,” I tell him and toss my wallet into a small bag.

He grunts and carries his plate straight to the dishwasher without rinsing it. I sigh but don’t say a word. Over the years I’ve become better at picking my battles, and this isn’t one.

When we get to his school, we exchange “I love yous,” and I pat his thigh good-bye. When he leans over and hugs me, I smile. Squeezing him, I enjoy the rare treat of a teenage hug at school.

“Bye, honey.”

“Bye, Mom.”

My next stop, after watching him walk up the steps, is coffee. Thursday mornings are my designated java pick-up days. I rattle off four different orders and drive the last few blocks to work once I have them.

“Thank God!” Jenna cries and plucks her order from the carrier.

“One of those mornings?” I ask and set the rest on a table.

“One word. Puberty.” Jenna drinks a healthy gulp of joe.

I nod and lock up my things. “Gotcha. I’ll be missing yet another of Jeremy’s games if it makes you feel any better.” Jenna shoots me a meaningful look. She may not be a single mom like I am, but she misses her own share of activities. “Well, here’s hoping today is an easy one.”

Later that evening, I look at the clock and sigh. Jeremy’s game is halfway through by now, which means my guilt is high and I’m almost through with my twelve-hour shift. I hate missing so many of his games. These are moments I know I can’t get back. It hurts the worst when I see understanding in Jeremy’s eyes versus anger or frustration.

He’s a great kid. He does well in school, gives me very little attitude, and is talented in sports. I’m hoping if he keeps it up, he can earn a scholarship for college, but we have a few years left to really worry about that.

“Hey, stop that!” Jenna scolds.

“Stop what?” I ask and set down the marker I was using.

Jenna waves her hand around my face. “That. Honey, I know you hate missing his games, but he understands, so quit beating yourself up about it.”

“That’s the problem, Jenna.” I sigh. “He’s only a boy. He shouldn’t have to be this understanding about all the games I miss.”

“No, he shouldn’t, but life isn’t fair. You’ve got a great kid, girl. No matter what you think, you’re doing really well by him.”

“Natalia?” Kara, another nurse on shift, calls out.

“Yeah?”

“You’ve got a live one in room one.”

I nod and squeeze past Jenna who pats me on my back. “On my way.”

Pulling up the patient’s admittance tab on the computer, I read the notes and frown. Forty-year-old male with testicular pain. Walking down the hall toward the triage room, I sift through my knowledge of all the possible things responsible for testicular pain.

Once I learned I was having a boy, I put in extra focus into male anatomy and physiology. I was determined to keep my boy safe and healthy to my best ability. This thankfully helped me tackle those not-so-fun talks about puberty.

“Good evening—”

Any other words centered around good bedside manners blank in my brain the moment our eyes meet. Crap.

His crew-cut hairstyle highlights his strong jaw. A light smattering of hair grows along it, and my hand itches with the need to see if it will feel soft or rough along my palm. His jaw twitches, and I find a sheen of sweat on his brow. The pain reflecting in his hazel eyes pulls me back from my fog.

I clear my throat and hope I’m not blushing. “What brings you in this evening, Mr.—”

“Wilkins. Call me Wes. I don’t suppose there’s a male nurse on staff?”

My brows knit at his tone. “Sorry, there’s not,” I say. “What’s bothering you that a female nurse can’t help you with?”

“No, it’s not—” He attempts to sit up, and he grunts in pain.

I move to his side. “Lie back down,” I tell him gently.

“S-sorry. Don’t mean to be an ass.”

Concern fills me at his words and the way his eyelids lower in pain. “Talk to me. There’s no reason for you to suffer any pain. I assure you I can help even if I don’t have the same parts as you.”

“Definitely don’t have the same parts,” he mumbles. He draws in a deep breath and clears his throat. “My testicles hurt, and they’re swollen.”

“Okay, did you sustain an injury to them?” I ask reassuringly.

He looks away, and his words are too soft to hear.

I place my hand on his shoulder, and a weird sensation travels up my arm at the contact. He turns toward me, and I see he felt whatever just happened. “I can’t help you if you don’t talk to me,” I say, ignoring the strange event and removing my hand.

“I had a vasectomy yesterday.”

“Okay.” I think of common complications that could occur with the procedure. “Swelling and discomfort are common in the first forty-eight hours—”

His lips pull into a hard line. “It looks like I have three testicles.”

My eyebrow raises. “Three?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. We’ll look at it in a second. What have you done in the last twelve hours?”

His eyes dart away again, and I realize whatever he’s been doing was not what his doctor ordered. “Come on, fess up. If your testicles are this swollen, you weren’t lying down and resting like I’m sure your doctor ordered,” I say in my mom voice.

“I was at my kids’ baseball game…”

The way he says it leaves me thinking there is more. “Mhmm… sitting on the stands?”

He shakes his head. “No, coaching.”

“I see. Did anything happen, since I expect you weren’t sitting in a chair relaxing while you coached?”

“One of the boys fell. I, um, helped him up, and that’s when I stumbled in pain.”

“I don’t suppose you coach toddlers?” I ask, knowing he’s going to say no.

“No, freshmen.”

“Definitely surpasses the ten-pound weight restriction.”

His eyebrows snap together. “Look, I wasn’t going to miss the game!”

I raise my hands in the air. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean any offense. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been here all day, and I missed my son’s baseball game tonight. One of many.” I whisper the latter and turn away. “I’ll go see if the doctor is available to perform your exam.”

“Wait!” he calls out when I reach the door.

I stop but don’t face him. I can’t. If I do, he’ll see the tears forming. I’m never this short with my patients. I chalk it up to my emotions after missing out on another event in Jeremy’s life.

After a moment, he apologizes and I walk out. This handsome stranger has pressed more conflicting buttons than I care to admit. Ignoring the fact that a man hasn’t managed to fluster both me and my lady bits in… well, ever, he’s a patient and therefore off limits.

I received this book from the author for an honest opinion/Review.

After falling crazy in love with Jason and enjoying Joshua, when AJ offered me book 3 I was alllll on board!!!

I gotta say the way the characters are meeting in this series is KILLING ME!!  Wes has some issues with his “business”” and nurse Natalie is there to assist the doctor. *Snickers*   The chemistry between the two characters is tangible and makes you want to see how or when they meet up again.

I will admit I WONDERED if Wes going to be who I thought he was and loved the story line.  The two are very interested in each other but must worry about how their kids will take seeing their parent date.  Natalie’s son has never seen his mom really dating.  Reece’s dad just got divorced so dating could be odd.

I loved how the boys were always to #1 in both parents’ minds.  They worried and wondered if dating would be a good idea or cause issues with the kids all the while dying to be with the other one.

The epilogue is perfect and made me super happy for where these characters have been, and we can see their future.

#Review #medical #Novella – Jason, Love in Scrubs, book 2 by AJ Renee

Jason

From the author of the St. Fleur series comes a fun tale of finding love in the most unexpected place.

Being stood up for a first date was the last thing on Ava King’s mind. Yet Mr. Wrong opened the door to Mr. Sexy, who’s already sitting next to her at the bar. One drink becomes two, and going against her own code, she goes home with the charming stranger.

Waking in Jason’s foreign bed sends her into a panic, and she escapes before any morning-after awkwardness can ensue.

Can fate bring them together again to see if their chemistry transcends one steamy night of passion?

Goodreads

I purchased this book.

Dude!  A Silver Fox!!???  YES PLEASE!!!  A Book Nerd!!?? HELL YES!!

I have to say I was hooked on Jason from his first scene in the book.  Hottie older man flirting and hitting on a woman at the bar.  His opening line to Ava had me in stitches!!!

Ava is stood up on a date but flirting and going home with Jason was a lot more then she expected when she woke up the following morning.  When she runs into him again……OMG I was dead!!  I mean Hell!!  That was a perfect way for these two characters to re-connect!!

Jason has been burned by love but is still hopeful that he will find an HEA of his own.  Even with his busy lob and caring for him ailing mom, he still believes there is someone out there for him.  He is a dreamy sigh kinda guy ladies!!

Ava is a sweet girl who wants love but has walled her heart off for fear of being hurt.  He opening to Jason is a huge deal.

When the two reconnect and begin to date, we see them both struggle to keep their emotion in check.  He is afraid too much too soon will fun her off and she is afraid of too much too soon will lose him.  They are such a great story.  The epilogue is a favorite of mine and I would so love to read more from these two because the ending scene could be fun stuff to read them navigating together!!

Events happen in life that can awaken our truest and deepest desires. They also show us our greatest fears. Sometimes we are forced to face those fears, other times we build walls that can’t be broken to protect ourselves.

A profound connection these two once shared. A strong friendship once formed was shattered. Fate has stepped in and shaken both their worlds.

The danger, the wild, the chaos, and the lifestyle of the Hellions world has become far too much for Savannah ‘Sass’ Perchton. Swearing off bikers and attempting a ‘normal’ life, she has settled. She’s committed to Nick, her country club, pretty boy. She’s found a way to be content.

Things aren’t always what they seem. Wrap an empty box in pretty paper and a bow, it may look amazing, but it’s still a hollow shell.

He’s a Hellions playboy. A different chick in his bed, off on a different ride, and always something new. He’s Frank the ‘Tank’ Oleander, Haywood’s Hellions Road Chief. Throttle down and life is good.

The fast pace of the Hellions life catches up to him. At a crossroads, he’s forced to face some life changing thoughts or succumb to the darkness of death. Teetering on the brink of giving in, her voice is all he’s holding onto. The coma he can’t pull himself out of, but her voice is the light in the darkness. He wants the girl who pulled him through when his life was literally in the balance.

She’s sworn off bikers. Can he pull through? Can she ever see past the lifestyle to the heart of the man behind the cut? Will they find their Forever Ride?

My Review –

Life as the Hellions motorcycle clubs VPs daughter leaves Savannah “Sass” hasn’t always been easy she has always struggles with  herself about wanting to feel safe and being away from the life that comes with the club and turning her back on family. Tank on the other hand is a playboy that doesn’t care what happens he’s ride or died for his club at no cost. When Sass and her best friend Doll are sent on a ride for their safety Tank ends up getting hurt and ends up in a coma. Once returned Sass visits him everyday and her new rebound of a douche boyfriend makes her choose her life with him or her family the only thing she ever knows. Making the hardest decision of her life Sass leaves the only thing she’s ever know behind and the wonder if Tank will ever wake up. Will the love Tank has for Sass be enough to pull him out of his coma, and get back to her? Will Sass find happiness outside of the only thing she’s ever know? Is forever long enough or nothing that will happen. I’m so in love with this series Chelsea just knows how to pull you in and make you fell like you are apart of this club and are family with them.

My Review-

This story is an amazing short, showing Monica a newly single divorced mom of 2 kids will do or what happens when she’s alone for the first time for a week without her kids and meets the hot sexy younger next door neighbor. Discovering just who she is and letting her inner sexiness out for a week and it might just be more then a one night or one week stand.

Rebel Lynch has spent two hundred years searching for balance between his human side and his inner wolf. As a den President of The Feral Breed Motorcycle Club, a lack of control over the beast within isn’t just a pain in the tail, it’s a death sentence. One served by his club brothers: the judges, jury, and executioners of the wolf-shifting community.

At Amnesia Gentlemen’s Club, customers and staff check their real-world identities at the door. Charlotte, one of the club’s best waitresses, ditched her legit career in corporate IT because she needs the kind of income those pesky IRS folks can’t track. When the smart-mouthed bombshell pulls a gig serving a private party, she expects nothing more than a few extra tips. That is until dirty-talking Rebel Lynch strolls into the room looking like sin incarnate, flashing motorcycle club colors, and blasting Charlotte’s expectations about work, life, and love straight to hell.

One glance at Charlotte and Rebel knows she’s his fated mate. But a wolf shifter is attacking women at the club, threatening Charlotte’s life, and putting the entire shifter community at risk of exposure. Rebel and his Feral Breed MC brothers must find the crazed shifter before he strikes again. If Rebel can’t uncover the new monster in their midst–and learn to rein in the protective instincts of a fully mated alpha–his future with Charlotte will be dead on arrival.

My Review-

When you find yourself with a cruse of being able to turn into a wolf you need to have a few things in your life 1) being able to find your mate and 2) Having a brotherhood people that understand and help shape you into who you are. That how life was for Rebel only thing was he had his brotherhood but after 200 years  living he still hasn’t  found his mate and started to believe that he was going to be alone with his brothers. Until he walked into the local strip club to help try and figure out what was going on within the town and within the shifters. That’s when his heart started racing and he about let out his inner wolf as he laid eyes on Cherry the cute waitress at the club. How was he going to protect her if she was involved he didn’t know. All he knew was that he needed to do whatever he could to keep her safe if someone laid a hand on her he was going to make sure they paid. I love this book and I need more..just don’t question it just go buy it.

#WOTR19 – #Review – Proper (Fucked #2) by RK Gleason

Proper (Fucked #2)

Dave and Pam Richter continue their race against time and the plague sweeping through their home state. They’ve watched enough horror movies to know it won’t take long before its tendrils reach past the imaginary borders, infecting the rest of the country, and possibly the world.

Despite their efforts, they continue to face one delay after another in their struggle to lead their family to safety. Their destination lays 2,500 miles away and will set their backs to the Pacific Ocean. But they’re discovering the virus turning the population into flesh eating monsters, isn’t the only threat they’re facing.

The military troops sent to contain the outbreak, led by Major Carolyn Brooks, are unprepared for the new, pack-like instincts, cooking in the brains of the infected. Now the government may be forced to initiate drastic measures in an effort to burn away all traces of the virusite from the face of the earth, before it’s too late.

*This is the second book in a series of novellas.

Oh my f’n god! I freaking love this series!

“You had me at blood and semen, baby.”

You have no idea how bad I want to drop the F bomb while writing this review. RK seems to really bring it out in me, haha! This story is what happens when the situation goes from UPPERCASE to PROPER. This is super intense from beginning to end and it wasn’t until the end that I could finally take a deep breathe.

Dave and Pam are still working on getting the family together and back on the road but they are in the thick of it when the mail woman tries to eat Dave! Gah! Soooooo intense! But a little spoiler, Dave makes it and the mailwoman doesn’t….Ha!

Major Brooks has her troops on the ground and going into the area to “contain” the virus. Little do they know the zombies are evolving a bit and have laid a trap. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the zombies are here and getting smarter!

This is a series of novellas so it’s a quick and fast read. I have read several of RK’s books and have been surprised by something in each book whether it’s something off color or off the wall, things that made me stop and try and figure out what the hell it is that I am reading. It’s part of what I love about this series. These are sarcastic people in a blended family that aren’t afraid of speaking their mind. At this point in the review you should stop reading what I have to say and go read the f’n book!

A little while ago I decided to try my hand at writing. I published The True Death series independently in 2015 and currently have ten books published to date.

#REVIEW – Sweet Enough To Eat by Alexa Riley

Nikki’s been crashing weddings with her bestie Sugar as she tries to find the one. When she least expects it, Dean pops up and he’s on the same page as she is. But a catastrophe involving a piercing, an IUD, and a trip to the emergency room has her running for the hills.

Dean always knew that when he found the woman that was meant to be his, he would know it. And the second he saw Nikki, he was ready for the white picket fence. But when they get separated she takes off… But not to worry – he loves the chase.

Warning: This quick follow-up to Wedding Cake Crasher gives you the whole story on Dean and Nikki. Read their side of the story and fall in love all over again…

Twinsie Jo’s Review:
This story is about 2 side characters from Wedding Cake Crasher. I haven’t read that story but plan on it. Even though this is a follow up, I wasn’t confused and I didn’t feel like I missed anything.
This story is super short but fun and of course, HOT.
Dean and Nikki meet at a wedding. Sparks fly and they feel an instant connection. Well things get moving pretty fast and while they’re getting hot and heavy. They get stuck. Literally.
How embarrassing??
After that unexpected incident, it doesn’t stop them from finding that happiness and love they feel from the very start.

Warning: Can a woman really have too many men love her? We don’t think so! Grab the follow-up to Too Hard and find out if these three can find their happily ever after.

Twinsie Jo’s Review:
This hot little number continues right where Too Hard ends.
Nellie is attracted to both Elijah and Owen and wants them. Both of them. Not one or the other. Both. But she thinks it’s wrong because she doesn’t know that they feel the same way.
This little story is just that. Little but hot. And so delicious.
Elijah and Owen are twins who have been determined to get Nellie as soon as they graduated college. Now that their schooling is done and their careers are set, they just need their woman.
Grab this short but hot story now! And if you’re anything like me, you’ll end up binge reading the rest of the books by AR!

#REVIEW – Too Hard by Alexa Riley

Harlow Harrison has just moved into a new apartment. The only problem is that Harlow thinks she can do everything on her own when it’s better to leave it to a professional After a disastrous water leak and an emergency call, the man that comes to her rescue might be more than she can handle.

One night on an emergency call he meets a young woman who calls to every dark place inside him. He’s old enough to be her dad and he has to keep his distance. The only problem is, Harlow doesn’t agree and it won’t take long for her to break down his resolve.

Warning: Butch isn’t too old to find love and Harlow isn’t too young to be taken like she wants. Find out what happens when these two finally give in to what their bodies have been begging for.

Twinsie Jo’s Review:
I’ll be honest. I grabbed this one because I want to read the one that comes after it. I’m a sucker for threesome stories and these ladies don’t disappoint! I also didn’t want to read out of order AND I need to catch up on all the AR books I’ve missed anyway, so it’s a win-win all around.
It’s been awhile since I’ve read an AR book and man, I have I missed these ladies and their filthy minds.
Harlow is a gamer/hacker/techy type person while Butch is a contractor. Sparks start flying high when she tries fixing a leaky faucet and water starts spraying everywhere. Butch comes to her rescue and fixes the issue but not the issue of his feelings for a much younger woman.
They try and fight their feelings and the intense connection they have but we all know, that neither of them win that fight.
This story was short, hot and oh so filthy.
Now onto the next one!!

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

OMG this was my first book by Vivian but I gotta tell ya, I wanna read more!!  This was just the perfect novella for me to get an idea of her writing style, which I will say is hawt and hilarious!!

The story was about uber alpha Aaron who met a hottie waitress a few months ago and he needed to go back and claim her as his own.

Scarlett is accustomed to men coming on strong, given that she is a waitress at a casino bar in Vegas.  Seems all the drunk men feel they are allowed to touch so when Aaron strolls back in, she is eye rolling him as just another handsy guy.

The story is sweet and hawt with a dash of humor throw in.  I enjoyed seeing Aaron jumping to try and impress Scarlett into going on a date with him.  I also loved Scarlett’s friends seeing Aaron as a guy worth trusting and getting her to finally agree to a date which changes the dynamic of their relationship.

This was an erotic novella and a great glimpse into Vivian’s crazy book worlds for anyone looking to try something new and naughty!!!

Vivian Ward is a romance author from St. Louis, Missouri. She pens dark and dirty stories about alpha heroes and strong heroines with emotional HEAs. Review by Twinsie Dee

Anya writes stories with romantic slants. Sometimes they’re extra naughty and sometimes they’re sickeningly sweet.
