You meet Mackenzie “Mac” Coalson who loves his family and town and would do anything to protect them. You also meet Dixie Harris who is a stubborn woman that loves her brother and would do anything to protect him and her family name.

Mac is determined to help rebuild his town after a flood has destroyed the majority of it but someone keeps sabotaging his work. Finally they find he culprits a group of teenage boys one of which is the brother of the new kindergarten teacher, Dixie Harris. Dixie in knowing there is an explanation and that the Mac she hears such great things about will listen to reason only to find out he is just as bull headed as she is and doesn’t listen to a word only wants the boys arrested.

Well Dixie is bound and determined to get Mac to see reason and convinces him to give her brother, Jamie, a job. While Mac and Dixie are busy butting heads the sparks begin to fly between them. Mac is reserved in his feelings being the southern gentleman he is. He knows Dixie is young for him and she challenges him at every turn. Dixie is smart, spunky, and sassy never was one to back down from anyone, she held her own, always felt she could take care of herself and her brother never needed anyone else. The banter back and forth between Mac and Dixie had me cracking up.

I enjoyed reading this and learning a little about all of Mac brothers. I cannot wait to read more about all of them and to find out who is sabotaging all their work. What a great start to a wonderful series.

A few of my favorites:

“Honey, you should be thanking me instead of yelling at me. I saved you from falling on your delightful little fanny.” His silver eyes twinkled as he pinned her with his gaze.
Mac threw back his head and laughed, the sound once again booming off the walls. “You remind me of a kitten I once had. Always spitting fire and clawing at me when I tried to pick her up, but after a few soft strokes, she began to purr.”

“Hi, Chance. How are you?” “Doing fine now that you’re here, sunshine. You brightened my day. Care to light up my nights?” He accompanied the ridiculous remark with a lecherous grin as he looked her over from head to toe taking in all of her curves in her simple suit.

“If she lacks experience, I’m sure you could teach her a few things.” Mac turned around in an instant and scowled at his brother. “She’s not that kind and you know it. She’s the marrying kind. Even you can see that. I’m not going there right now, so let’s just drop the subject and go get a beer.”
He wanted something. As his steely gray eyes deepened into the color of shiny pewter, Dixie realized with a start what it was. He wanted her. She could see the flames of desire leaping in his eyes. For an awful second she felt she’d been stripped naked and he had stolen her soul. He was definitely the Devil.
He was definitely a predator. And she was so very afraid she was his prey and he was ready to pounce.

“Stop! What is it with you and the whole stalking like an animal thing?” She ran around the coffee table. Mac smiled at the thoughts that flitted across her face. She was so easy to read. “Maybe you bring out the animal in me, baby.” She started to laugh. “Really? That’s the line you’re going with?” She snorted then clapped her hand over her mouth. Mac smiled. Yeah, where the hell did that cheesy line come from? “Hey, you put me on the spot. I can’t think straight when you’re standing there all sweet and naked.” Dixie blushed. “Much better, but I think you should leave.”

Maggie Adams is an Amazon Best Selling romance author.
