\nWith my drawings in hand, I head toward the backyard, the sound of the\nocean becoming more pronounced as I go. Everyone\u2019s already gone for the day,\nbut they left their messes behind. There\u2019s material all over the back deck for\nthe kitchen remodel and two new windows leaning against the siding. There\u2019s a\nlarge dumpster in the driveway for all of the old building material, but\nthere\u2019s still a small pile of scrap by the back door.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nI glance around quickly, confirming my guys cleaned up after themselves\nbefore heading to the very back of the property. Pink paint marks the route\nRhenn will use to dig a trench and run the wiring for the new lights. When I\nget to the back, I can already see what they\u2019re envisioning. There\u2019s a small\nclearing with a breathtaking view of the ocean. I can practically picture the\nsmall benches or swing back here, with a few lights to illuminate the path.\nSolid idea in adding it, I agree, pleased to enhance this area of the yard. I\nmake a few notes on my drawings and roll them back up.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nAs I get ready to turn and head back to my truck, a familiar scent blows\nin with the breeze. It\u2019s gardenia and honeysuckle, and the sweet aroma reminds\nme of a happier time. The memories come flooding back and I hate the longing\nthat starts deep in my chest. Closing my eyes, I let the salty breeze wash over\nme, fighting against the reminiscences. God, I hate I can still smell her, feel\nher as if she were standing right beside me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nOpening my eyes, I gaze out at the sea, wishing things could have been\ndifferent. No, I\u2019m not wishing away my son. He\u2019s the best part of my life and I\nwouldn\u2019t go back and do everything over again if it meant losing him, but\nwishing for\u2026closure. Needing it, actually. I never got it. Never heard why she\nleft in the middle of the night. Never was told what I did wrong. Never had the\nchance to make it right.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nMaybe being back here, I\u2019ll finally have it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nKnowing I have a ton of work to do and only a little daylight left, I\nslowly turn my back to the ocean, desperately looking to put some distance\nbetween me and the honeysuckle. When I turn around, I see a woman. Her long\nblonde hair is piled high on her head and her gorgeous hazel eyes are wide in\nshock. Soft pink lips are gaped open as she stands not ten feet away from me, a\nlook of surprise and horror written all over her beautiful face. She\u2019s as\nstunning as I remember in my dreams. She stands there, the house she grew up in\nas the backdrop, as tears fill her eyes. It\u2019s hard to breathe and even harder\nto keep myself from rushing to her, taking her in my arms.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nBut I don\u2019t.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nI can\u2019t.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nAs much as I want to, I don\u2019t move a muscle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
