Not just because their kids are monsters—whose aren’t?—but because they’re ready for some alone time to let their hair down and their fangs out. You see, not only are the kids monsters—their dads are too.

Even the most dangerous of creatures has a soft spot. These bad, dangerous dads love their kids to death, but they need romance.

Every year, for a few short weeks, these hot men with a little extra in their blood get to be who they truly are. And this year, life has a surprise for them. Whether they be mage, shifter, vampire, or changeling, these heartbreakingly handsome dads might be looking to tear up the town… but they’ll end up falling in love. All it takes is the right man to bring them to their knees.

KISMET & CADAVERS BY JENN MOFFATT

Thomas Anders is prepared for two weeks of alone time, or as alone as he can be living with his daughter’s sentient undead cat, running the family occult shop, and keeping San Diego safe from the strange and supernatural. What he doesn’t expect is for KJ Beshter to arrive in his shop bearing a gift card Thomas’s daughter cast a spell on. Thomas has met her handsome magic-sensitive teacher before, but now that Star is moving up a grade, he can cross that line. It would be perfect timing if something wicked didn’t want to sink its claws into KJ too….

MONSTER HALL PASS BY BRU BAKER

White-collar dad Hugh Whitby dotes on his adopted daughter, but she’s away at camp. Now it’s time let the vampiric urges he so tightly controls run wild and take advantage of his monster hall pass to feed on criminals. But when fae prince Rykoff of Harlow interrupts Hugh feeding, he catches Hugh’s daughter’s scent and vows to avenge the fae youngling he believes Hugh has captured.

Hugh had no idea his daughter wasn’t human, and it rocks the foundation of his world. He must convince Rykoff that the fae youngling in question is safe with her vampire dad and can prosper in the mortal realm—or risk losing her forever.

WOLF AT FIRST SIGHT BY RHYS FORD

SFPD Lieutenant Joseph Zanetti has spent years protecting his city, and from the looks of St. Connal’s Pub and its bad-boy owner, Levi Keller, the place is a hotspot for trouble and violence. Joe’s problem? Levi is delectably hot, with secrets Joe can’t wait to dig into.

As a Peacekeeper for paranormals, wolf shifter Levi doesn’t need the complication of a hot cop sniffing around his pub when he’s just sent his teen son off to summer camp. He’s busy brokering a peace agreement between two warring factions. When Joe stumbles into Levi’s world, both plunge into a situation neither one of them was ready for—falling in love.

ELF SHOT BY TA MOORE

All Conri wanted was to drop his kid off at Changeling camp, find the nearest halfway nice hotel, and enjoy a week of uncomplicated debauchery. It should be simple. It doesn’t work out that way.

When a local girl disappears, the neighborhood quickly lays blame at the well-guarded gates of the camp. With his son incriminated, a mystery to solve, and a malevolent pocket of the Otherworld to navigate, Conri will need all the help he can get—even if it does come from a distractingly pretty, tightly wound Iron Door agent who doesn’t trust Conri to be on the right side.

Head: Bonus scene: Trying not to vamp out at a PTA meeting

Thanks for joining me on today’s tour stop for the Bad, Dad, and Dangerous anthology. I teamed up with Rhys Ford, Jenn Moffatt, and TA Moore to imagine a world where dads who spend most of the year doting on their kids–baking cupcakes for the PTA and restraining their baser urges–can let their hair down for a few weeks while their kids are at summer camp and embrace their inner monsters.

I introduced my character Hugh from Monster Hall Pass at my last tour stop, and gave readers a taste of his interactions with his daughter, Ruby. Today I’m going to share a bonus scene that gives you a seat at the PTA meeting he references in the excerpt in my last post. Because it’s got to be hard to be an energy vampire on a good day–and any day you’re at a PTA meeting is most certainly not a good day.

Bonus prequel scene to Monster Hall Pass:

“I don’t care if you’re going to be recovering from surgery, Lila, you’re the chair of the games committee. You have to be at International Games Night.”

Hugh’s mouth watered as he breathed in the spicy scent of Lila’s anger. It was surprisingly nuanced, considering who it was coming from. He’d been on several PTA committees with Lila over the years, and the woman had never been anything but kind and accommodating. Too accommodating, in his opinion. Which is why the PTA president seemed to have no problem insisting she come run the school’s games night fundraiser a week after she scheduled to have major surgery.

“I won’t even be able to stand unassisted at that point, Beverly. I’m happy to help organize everything I can before the fundraiser, but I can’t be there in person to help that night.”

Hugh fought the urge to take a deep breath and savor the anger and irritation that was building in the room. PTA meetings were always an exercise in self control for an energy vampire like him. He fed off negative emotions, and any gathering that involved Beverly was guaranteed to have the auras of half the parents in the room lit up like Vegas.

“I’m happy to oversee the games the night of the festival,” Hugh chimed in, cursing himself for volunteering as soon as the words crossed his lips.

He was already in charge of organizing food trucks for the event, and he’d gotten his own tongue lashing from Beverly earlier in the meeting because he hadn’t managed to book the kinds of food she thought they should have. Beverly had ridiculously out-of-touch ideas considering this was a games night fundraiser at an elementary school. He doubted there’d be much demand for tapas or the weird raclette truck that he could smell from a mile away, but he’d majorly scored and the Kona Ice truck was going to kick back a percentage of sales to the PTA.

“If Lila wants to keep her position as fundraising chair on the board she’ll attend herself,” Beverly snapped.

Hugh shot Lila an apologetic glance, nearly swallowing his tongue at the way her aura glowed. He’d heard of being incandescent with rage, but she actually was. Her normally peaceful aura was shot through with reds and blacks that he normally associated with rapists and murderers. That was interesting.

But it wasn’t doing good things for his hunger. He needed to feed, and not at the PTA meeting. As much as he’d love to literally suck the meanspirited wind out of Beverly’s sails, he couldn’t risk exposing his vampiric nature or putting his daughter at risk.

So he settled for sneaking his phone out under the table and shooting off a quick text to the babysitter who was with Ruby right now.

Something came up. Any chance you can keep Ruby overnight? I’ll pay you double your rate.

He tried his best not to feed around home, but if he didn’t deal with this hunger spike soon he could seriously slip up. And as much as he could ill afford to pay a fool’s ransom to the babysitter to keep Ruby, he also couldn’t afford to lay waste to the PTA.

No matter how much that bitch Beverly deserved it.

Goodreads

Dreamspinner Link: https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/bad-dad-and-dangerous-11769-b

Bru Baker writes sophisticated gay romantic fiction with strong characters, real-world problems, and plenty of humor.

Bru spent fifteen years writing for newspapers before making the jump to fiction.
