My name is Annabella Michaels and I’ve been writing contemporary gay romance for over seven years. I live in a small town near Cincinnati, Ohio with my amazing husband. We have two grown children who are the loves of our lives and our first grandbaby on the way! <\/span><\/p>\n

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

For me, it’s the books that follow. The first book, I have the freedom to do whatever I want and make any changes that suit my tastes, but after that, I’m locked into certain things.<\/span><\/p>\n

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I try to add in new characters and different locations within the series, so each book feels like a brand new adventure while also sprinkling in scenes with familiar characters so my readers can “check in” with characters they loved from previous books. <\/span><\/p>\n

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Try and find other authors who you can sprint with and bounce ideas off of. Having someone to talk to–even just for a few minutes in between sprints–can really keep you from feeling so isolated as you work.<\/span><\/p>\n

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

On a good day, 5-6 hours. Busier days, I may only get 30 min.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maddie from my Hamilton’s Heroes series was fun to write. He was a ray of sunshine.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your definition of success?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being able to do what I love while making enough money to provide for my family. Anything else is just gravy.<\/span><\/p>\n
