Joel Shoemaker is a magician, a librarian and an author. He has acted in many community theatre productions and is directing three shows this year!<\/span><\/p>\n

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t written a series\u2026yet!?<\/span><\/p>\n

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n

No series for me. But I kind of want to continue my forthcoming picture book character, Silas. I might do that! If so, I think I would keep things fresh by finding new ridiculous plots for them!<\/span><\/p>\n

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I only write after I have a fairly fleshed out idea in my head because I want to pour out many many words! To feel accomplishment! So I say write irregularly, it works for me?<\/span><\/p>\n

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Probably just an hour or two.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I like all of my characters but my new picture book character is my favorite right now!<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your definition of success?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be happy.<\/span><\/p>\n
