#Review #MC #Dark #Audio #AgeGap – Birdie’s Biker, Royal, RBMN:Reno, NV, Chapter 1 by Misty Walker, Narration by Troy Duran and Kelsey Navarro

Vegas is where good people go to sin. Reno is where the bad ones go.

Amidst the drugs, weapons, and trafficking, a murder-for-hire market has emerged. And my motorcycle club is right in the thick of it.

If you can pay, we have a million different ways to solve your problem. You want someone to vanish without a trace? The Great Basin Desert is almost two hundred thousand square miles of “nobody will ever find you.” You want to make a statement? We’ve been known to hang bodies from the Reno Arch.

If you’re paying, we’re killing. No witnesses, no evidence, and no questions asked.

That is until we’re hired to locate and kill a group threatening biological warfare by exposing our city to a deadly virus they stole. It’s the big payday we need. But in order to take the job, we have to also agree to protect the spoiled brat who saw everything.

Small. Frail. Innocent. Frightened. I made her my little birdie, but she always wants to fly away. Too bad for her I’ve clipped her wings and locked her in my cage.

They say free birds sing, and caged birds pray. Her cries sound the same to me.

*Birdie’s Biker is a dark romance in the second run of the Royal Bastards MC. It’s sexy as sin, thrilling, gritty, and dirty. If you love tortured heroes and a heroine who learns her strength in the most depraved way, then you’ll love Birdie’s Biker.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audio book.

I am a HUGE MC reader.  I was needing a new series when I was recommended this one.  I admit when I saw Troy was a narration, I jumped.  His narration is awesome, and I knew I would love the story.  Kelsey was also so great at being Bridget/Birdie. She did a great job showing the naïve girl she was and the Bad Ass she was at the end.

Loki is a bad ass.  He is happy with his club girl or hang arounds for company plus a bottle of Tequilla.  His life is perfect.  No woman is going to lock his down and make him unhappy like he sees his dad.

Bridget/Birdie is a happy, clueless socialite.  She likes her life but knows she is missing something but what she doesn’t know.  When Bridget is thrust into Loki’s arms for her protection, the two clash off like crazy.  However, the more she pushes him, the more he loves her fire and sass.

I absolutely fell in love with the characters in this series but I will not lie, Roch….imma need to read your book ASAP.  I am so glad I have more credits to grab that audio as well!!!  LOL

The story of why Bridget is with Loki was good.  The crazy crash of chemistry these two have is so fun to read.  She pushes him and he pushes her, but they just can’t stay away from each other.  The way their relationship starts and the fear they both have about this relationship was written well.  They are both so unsure and yet sure of the other.

Like I said I cant wait for more from this series!!!

#REVIEW – No One Rides For Free (An Extreme Novella) by Judith Sonnet

Jodi was driving her children to college when The Man got in their car.
Uninvited, unwanted, and unhinged…
The Man has no name, but he does have a gun… a knife… and a bag of “toys”.
What starts as a forced ride into the desert escalates into a disturbing series of crimes and assaults.
Jodi and her children will soon pray for death.

WARNING: This novella is incredibly disturbing. It features graphic scenes of sexual violence, torture, and gore. It is not intended for easily offended readers. The print edition of this book includes an exclusive short story, which is not availble on ebook. It is also gross and disturbing.

Ok…um…WTF did I just read?? You know the book is going to be crazy when there’s a warning half way through. Especially when the end of said warning says “It’s just a book” over and over again. But seriously…wow. So I’ve watched a lot of horror movies. And I’m not talking horror movies like Scream or Halloween (I love those movies of course). I’m talking movies that have been banned or make you feel like you’re an awful person just by watching. So I’ve seen some stuff. But I swear nothing compares to reading horror. What I see in my head while reading and what you see in your head while reading, are two completely different things and that’s what I love about it. That’s what I love about reading in general but there’s just something so deeply disturbing with reading a horror novel that just hits me differently. And this extreme novella was no different.

First I’m going to start by saying IF YOU HAVE TRIGGERS – PLEASE READ WITH CAUTION. And please please PLEASE read the warnings.

So in this short but intense story, you get Jodi who is driving her two kids to college. They stop at a gas station where they meet The Man and his bag of toys. The things that happen…I seriously can’t even put into words. The author did her job. I felt dirty, disgusted, like I needed a shower and just plain gross. I have a strong stomach but there were parts of this that made me feel nauseous. I really have no words. At all. Even though the content of this book was horrible to say the least, I gave it a high rating because the author succeeded in making me feel things that I’m sure she set out to do. So kudos to her.

The Manipulator

I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me.
I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh.
But my words don’t affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave.
He’s always there, watching and waiting.
And I can never look away.
Not when I want him to come closer.

The Shadow

I didn’t mean to fall in love.
But now that I have, I can’t stay away.
I’m mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves.
The way she undresses…
I’ll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine.
And once she is, I’ll never let her go.
Not even when she begs me to.

While not required, it is highly suggested to read the novella, Satan’s Affair, first.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I was obsessed with the 2nd book of this duet so when I was offered book 1, I jumped.

Sampson and Lisbeth were HAWT reads, and I was so excited to see how we ended up in book 1.

If you read book 2 when it was first released, we kinda “know” what happens when Lisbeth comes looking for a bartending job but ends up as a stripper at the club.  This book takes us through the whole story with the crazy, jealous other woman and the not so amazing boss.

I loved the in-depth story that allowed us to SEE the couple when they fell in love,

#wotr #attendingauthor #Standalone Broken Scars by J.M. Walker

Ruined. Tortured. Broken.

What could have been the perfect childhood, turned into a hell that the devil himself would shy away from. I was forced to deal with an evil that would make the darkest of souls cringe.

Lily Noel was scarred but beautiful. She was perfectly flawed and everything that I needed.

Attraction bordered on obsession.
Passion bordered on ecstasy.
Addiction bordered on insanity.

Nothing could get in the way of our love.
Nothing…

For Lily and Lucas battling with the demons from your past is anything but easy. Lily was out on a date when she found out the guy was actually married and to stay out of a storm she wondered into a local tattoo shop on her way home to avoid the rain but little did she know her work was going to change. Lucas had the worst childhood and still continues to battle with those demons everyday when this girl walks into hi shop like she owns the place. Will these two over come their demons together or will they tear them apart. This book has so many twist and turns and will keep you on your toes till the very end. I freaking loved every bit of this book and love Lucas and Lily so much.

I purchased this audio book.

I was super excited for this novella.  I know you are supposed to read it first but for me, I read it after the original duet.  For me, it makes more sense.

This book was a great look at Sibby.  We learn about her family and why she is the way she is. We also see her meeting the characters from the main duet.

I do think this could have been part of the Sibby duet but maybe she wasn’t sure  about a Sibby book series??  Anyway, it was a good read if you love Sibby like I loved her.

#WOTR23 #Dark #revenge #Horror – Dolly by Measha Stone, narration by Michele Blackstone

He’s promised me sunlight.
Hope for a better future.
Freedom from this horror.
A life that doesn’t end in a dark cellar.

But, we’re trapped together.
Forced to live for the worst kind of people.
Desperate to survive for each other.

I crave his touch with every breath I take.
My heart aches for him.
He’s my hope for survival.
The man I want a future with.
I can have it all again, if only I trust him.
Even if that’s the only thing I can’t do.

Dolly by Measha Stone, narration by Michele Blackstone

I purchased the audio and paperback of this book.

I bought this paperback a year ago??  Like right when it came out.  I like dark books but I gotta work my way up to reading them.  I know I am weird.  ANYWAY!  I finally decided this was the time.    I saw the audio was available and since it was 5 hours that would only take me a day to read.

I want to start out by saying the narration was not my favorite.  I would have loved to have a female voice it AKA Dolly vs having a man AKA Ken Doll voice the story.  I also didn’t get drawn into the story with Michele voicing the characters and the story either.  I pushed through because I wanted the story. The story was where it was at.

Ok yall.  This book is a little slower to start but I wanna say PAY ATTENTION to the beginning 10-11 chapters because once we hit chapter 12-13, ITS GO TIME!!! I was there for it.  Dolly and Ken Doll are trapped and being abused by 2 horrible humans but why???  WELL, we soon discover why when they get free and go on their bloody revenge tour.  I was there for that as well.  The stuff we learn in each chapter had me saying YOOOOOO WHAT.  And also, a big GASP with “I did Not see that coming!!”  I mean I knew stuff would be flying outta closets but it got me good with the twists.

The story of Dolly/Abigail and Ken Doll/Brian was a good one.  The relationship between the 2 characters was sweet and loving one minute while total Bonnie and Clyde murders the next!!

#Audio #dark – Does it Hurt by H.D. Carlton, narration by Troy Duran and Michelle Sparks

Does It Hurt?

Who am I?

I’ve forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I’ve only ever walked in stolen shoes.

Could I be a girl who is searching for the meaning of life in faceless men? They were all so forgettable. Until he came along. He took me under a waterfall and made me forget my name, and in return, I took his instead.

Enzo Vitale.

An enigmatic man that will only ever love the deep sea. Or rather the predators that inhabit it. Turns out, he’s not so different than the monsters he feeds. He lured me onto his boat like a fish in the ocean, seeking vengeance for my crime. Had I realized his intentions, and that a massive storm would leave us shipwrecked, I would’ve ran.

Now, I’m a girl who’s seeking refuge in a decrepit lighthouse with a man who loathes me almost as much as he craves me. He wants to hurt me, but the old caretaker of the abandoned island may have intentions far more sinister.

It’s no longer a question of who I am, but rather, will I survive?

Review by Twinsie Angie

I received this audio book from the authors PR firm for an honest review.

Man there is so much to say before I get into the review for this book.  I read the Adeline duet like everyone and liked it a ton. So when this book initially was released I didn’t grab it because I was afraid it wouldn’t live up to the hype in my head after Adeline.  I let it go for a bit and was getting ready to grab the book when her PR firm offered a review audio copy.  Audio is my JAM and I said yes!!  Troy and Michelle were amazing voices for the story and kept me fully invested.  I loved loved loved the audio so much with them telling the story.

Now when I jumped into the story I could SEE a similar vibe between Enzo/Sawyer and Adeline/Zade and I was ALLLL in.  However, the story changed directions and so did the characters.  Now I see a lot of Enzo hate because he isn’t Zade and I don’t think that is fair.  Enzo isn’t a great guy but yes he isn’t Zade.  But Enzo is a great anti hero initially.  He does some not nice things to Sawyer on the boat when he finds his “Little Thief”.  When the 2 are stranded on the island with creepy Sylvester the story changed its vibe again from an Adeline vide to a mystery/paranormal.  There were a lot of things going on but through it all, Sylvester was CREEPY!!  LOL

I did enjoy the story and the twist of everything that was happening at the light house. I did enjoy the story of the survival and how Sawyer could change her life drastically.  I loved Enzo hating and then fully loving Sawyer.  I loved him pushing her and pushing her until she too was in love with him.  I absolutely loved the story for what it was…which is Sawyer and Enzo’s story.

What I didn’t care for …the sex filler.  Ya’ll I love me some sexy times but there were times I felt like oh hey lets just fill this chapter with sex and then move on.  I mean I skimmed a few sexy times because it didn’t move the story forward.  It was just filler.

So if you loved Adeline go into this with a different head space.  It isn’t as dark, there are dark themes, but understand Enzo and Sawyer are 2 different characters. Their story is nothing like Zade and Adeline.

#Review – Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson

4 starred reviews!

Orange Is the New Black meets Walter Dean Myer’s Monster in this gritty, twisty, and haunting debut by Tiffany D. Jackson about a girl convicted of murder seeking the truth while surviving life in a group home.

Mary B. Addison killed a baby.

Allegedly. She didn’t say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered: a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary and the jury made it official. But did she do it?

There wasn’t a point to setting the record straight before, but now she’s got Ted—and their unborn child—to think about. When the state threatens to take her baby, Mary’s fate now lies in the hands of the one person she distrusts the most: her Momma. No one knows the real Momma. But does anyone know the real Mary?

I was looking on TikTok about a week ago, for some disturbing books. I couldn’t find anything that struck my fancy, so I went on Pinterest and came across a pin about this book, along with a few others. So of course, I bought it.

First, I 100% suggest going in blind – if you can of course. I know a lot of us need to read the blurb but with this book, it was so much more fun, going in with no information at all.

Now I will preface this by saying that this is NOT a romance, while there are some romantic elements in it. It’s YA and packs quite the punch. It’s like Orange Is The New Black but with younger characters. Also, the main premise of this book is that the lead character “killed a baby”, so if that’s a trigger, please read with caution.

This book is raw and gritty in the best of ways. It’s dark, written well and kept me engaged from the first few chapters in to the end. I will be honest and say that it did take me about 3 chapters to get fully invested in this story but once I did, wow. Just wow.

Mary…oh Mary. I really couldn’t predict the outcome of this book. I was a mixture of feelings when it came to this girl. And I say “girl” because she is just a kid.

Mary was accused of killing a baby and this book recounts what actually happened. It’s a “did Mary actually kill this baby?” kind of story. We don’t even know exactly who Mary is until the very end of the book. Now I did glance at some reviews saying that they lowered their star rating based on the last chapter but I honestly thought it ended perfectly. I was left in shock and I sat there for a few minutes after turning that last page and thinking “wow.” Now that’s a job well done on the author part.

I won’t give much away because like I said, I do suggest going in not knowing much about this book at all.

So if you like stories filled with grit, mystery, family drama, and “who dunnit” moments, I highly reccommend reading this one!

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Whoa! Holy what the heck did I just read?! I have the worst (best) book hangover! A friend of mine read this and immediately recommended the book to everyone. She said the best way to go in was completely blind. Okay, I’ll bite. I purchase the book without reading the blurb on the back, I have no clue who this author is, and did not check out any of the reviews. I highly suggest doing the same, you won’t regret it. Now, if you refuse to go in blind, please continue on and I’ll tell you a little about the story.

This story is about Mary, who is now 16, but at age 9 was convicted of murdering an infant. The story dives deep into the life she has led leading up to this point. In jail, mostly in solitaire because no one knew what to do with such a young murder. She experienced mental and physical abuse…this will make you cringe. She is trying to survive. She is now in a group home and ends up getting pregnant by Ted. He is another group home convict. Mary is truly trying to make something for herself and with some help she starts advocating for herself. She is smart and wants to keep her baby, but she also must literally watch out for her life while living in the group home. A necessary evil. Some of the people in her life are incredibly terrible, but some are really genuine. The hardest part is trying to figure out exactly who you can trust. I went through most of this story just knowing that she was going to win but then you start to feel the doom and gloom. Then, all of a sudden, this crazy curve ball comes flying from out in left field and I sat here like, I can’t believe that just happened. But then the end actually happens, and I just sat there trying to comprehend what I just read. Like, did that just happen? Yeah, that did just happen…OMG! The twist at the end made my head spin!
