Dirty (Dive Bar, #1)

angies review

I received this book from the publisher for an honest review.

I look forward to a lot of authors and their new releases and Kylie has been one of my favorites.  I was super exited to read her new series after waving good bye to the Stage Dive guys last year.  When we were introduced to Vaughan, I was super excited to see more of him and get his story.  We know that his band breaks up after the tours over and I wondered what was up with him.  Well, Poor Vaughan comes home to a hot mess!!

The story begins with Lydia finding out some stuff about her fiancée literally minutes before walking down the aisle.  So what does any self-respecting woman do….she runs and flings herself over the fence to hide in Vaughan’s house.  She is very surprised when he comes in and finds her there.  Their #CrazyAtFirstSight story them begins.

Lydia and Vaughan have a crazy “I get you” vibe.  They each understand the cray of the other person and that makes an attraction grow…well that and her amazing boobs, hey that is what Vaughan says anyway!!  Vaughan is there when Lydia is dealing with her ex and his family. Then Lydia is there to help him with his family and their bar.  The have a lot of other drama/crazy to deal with and then they find themselves finding trust in the other when the last thing they should be doing is trusting anyone.

I liked the story and giggled a few times but I did feel a bit of a disconnect in the beginning of the story and at times I thought the story was developing slowly but a bit over the top??  Does that make sense???

I did enjoy seeing Vaughan, meeting his sister and the bar employees.  I can’t wait for Twist to come out next year.

Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book via netgalley for an honest review.

I love Kylie Scott’s work and Stage Dive Series is one of my favorites. I was supper excited when I found out Vaughan was the next book in this new series. I was stoked we were going to get to learn more about him.

This starts off with Lydia about to get married when she finds out the truth about her fiancée. Lydia freaks out and runs only to find herself breaking into a strangers bathroom window trying to get away. Next thing she knows she is a mess cuddled in the tub looking up at a massive man.

Vaughan is taken back by seeing this crazy broken woman in his tub. But there is something there between them or maybe it’s just her boobs at first. They both have drama they are trying to deal with. However, Vaughan tries to help her out and in turn she decides to help Vaughan’s family by helping out at the bar.

I so loved seeing Mal he was a great high point. I wish we could have gotten more of Lydia’s background from pre fiancée days because I really didn’t connect to her and with her strong personality toward the end I think I could have. However, I enjoyed meeting Nell, Boyd, Erica and even Pat and Joe. I cannot wait to see and learn more about these guys.  Now to wait for TWIST to come out.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

EEEP!!  Another awesome sifter series closed from Kenzie.  I love this sort and sweet (well not really sweet more like naughty) books.

This story continues from where the last one ended.  Cole was hired by a friend PI to protect celebrity actress and bear shifter Amberly.  She is not too thrilled to be stuck in the bayou. Her house was recently shot up and so she is in hiding with Cole as her handsome protector.  When Amberly gets word she is going to lose her coveted role, she flips.  When a bomb show up it sends her and Cole running deep into the bayou to hide out.

Their story is much like the other brothers in the series.  They can feel the “Mate Bond” and Cole will do anything to keep and protect his mate even if he gets hurt in the process.

The “who” and “why” of the stalking plot we pretty good.  We never really know until the very end the reasoning.  I enjoyed this book but wish there and been a little bit more.  This book felt rushed in comparison to the other 2 in the series.

Praise for COZZI COVE: BOUNCING BACK:

“I loved this story. It carries you through the full range of emotions, from joy to sadness, from happiness to anger.  The characters are beautifully written.” “I look forward to a return visit to the Cove.” TBR Pile

“Heartbreaking and heartwarming, sweet beginnings for some, sour endings for others, emotions jumping off the page as you turn eagerly to read more, welcome to Cozzi Cove. The author measured his scales to perfection in delivering the perfect balance of love, laughter and tears in this sexy, fun filled holiday romance entwined with some sadness. Summer magic waved it’s wand at all who visited and stayed at Cozzi Cove and I was one of those who wanted to stay.” Three Books Over the Rainbow

“poignant and full of beautiful imagery. It’s one crazy mix of characters, all weird and wonderful in their own way” “It made me laugh out loud, cry and want to snuggle up with someone I loved. I couldn’t have asked for more.” Divine Magazine

“In true Joe Cosentino style, this book is packed full of drama! This cast of characters will have you laughing out loud one minute before ripping your heart out the next.” Joyfully Jay

“If you like a lot of angst, some humor, love, sadness (be sure to have a couple of boxes of tissue handy), and some hot sensual man-sex, I highly, highly recommend this book. I loved all of the Joe Cosentino’s books, but I think this is my favorite to date! I am ready for book 2!” Cathy Brockman Romance

“Joe Cosentino has the amazing ability to combine heartwarming, feel good moments with droll, sometimes biting humor, along with insights into the frailties and peccadillos of being human.” “Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back is the very finest in literary fiction with a romance theme, yet it’s more than just that—it’s about human connections and empathy and finding a way out of the fear and inertia faced by so many. It’s also about courage and strength, about respect and coming to terms with all that life has to offer, and it’s about letting go. I loved this book and look forward to the next in the series. This is a highly recommended read, well-deserving of Five Stars.” GGR Reviews

I bought this book when I was in Texas at an author signing.  I had ZERO CLUE who the author was but she was chatting about her books and the word “Shifter” caught my attention.  I am a GIANT shifter fan.  When I could finally step up to her table directly, I talked to her about her first 2 books she had on the table.  She then told me that book 3 was out soon…SCORE!!

This is the prequel to the first book in the series but it gives me, someone new to the series and author, the history of Mena, Marc, Jaxon and Phoenix.

Mena is married to her hubby of 12 years.  When she catches him cheating she runs.  When she is running, she happens to run into Jaxon.  He can sense she is different and we the reader have no clue why…..Then BOOM the bomb is dropped.  We learn very quickly who the bad guys are and who the good guys are plus what the heck Mena has become.

For ME, this short novella got my paranormal loving heart super excited.  I mean, I am seriously going right into book 1 because as short and simple as this book is, it got me really excited to read the main story.

about the author

Ever find it hard to talk about yourself? Yeah, I have that problem, too. I have been married to my soulmate for 8 years, who wouldn’t pick up a book unless promised that it was filled with pictures. I have a beautiful 7 year old daughter, Riley, that talks too much and has a very vivid imagination. I have no clue where she got those traits. My step-son, Hayden, is 16 and very into football and hunting. I am a writer of paranormal suspense romance. If you enjoy a great love story with a massive amount of drama about angels, demons, ghosts, vampires, witches and fairy tale creatures brought to life through a twisted mind, then you might just enjoy reading my work.

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

When I was a kid my older cousin and sister wrapped sheets around themselves, stuffed straw in a garbage can and put me on top of it. They charged a nickel admission for family and friends to see our Nativity play. I didn’t mind since I was the star!

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

I got hooked on serials as a kid by watching ABC’s Dark Shadows. Later as an actor I played Carl Hutchins’ (Charles Keating) snitch on NBC’s Another World. So it’s no surprise that I write various series. To me the difference between a standalone novel and a series is parallel to knowing someone for a year or knowing him/her for a lifetime. I’m too nosey of a person to be satisfied with a crumb. I want the whole pie. What I love about a series is the ability to get to know characters intimately over a long period of time and grow with them. We can live through the characters highs and lows and become one with them. They are easier to write because it’s like coming home and visiting old friends. I know my series regular characters inside and out. They are more difficult to write, however, since I have to keep detailed notes on how my regular characters look and on the rooms in their homes.

I have quite a few popular series. My In My Heart anthology includes An Infatuation (Divine Magazine Readers’ Choice Award 2nd Place for Best MM Romance) and A Shooting Star loosely based on my high school years and ten-year high school reunion, and on my time as a theatre major in college. They were so popular as individual e-books, Dreamspinner Press published them together in one paperback. I still receive comments from readers that those stories made them laugh, cry, feel romantic, and changed their lives. I am very proud of them.

An Infatuation (In My Heart #1) Goodreads

My popular Nicky and Noah mystery comedy series from Lethe Press are farcical, gay, cozy, who-dun-its. In Drama Queen (Divine Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best Mystery, Best Crime, Best Humorous, Best Contemporary of 2015) theatre college professors are dropping like stage curtains. With the inept local detective more interested in getting into Nicky’s pants than solving the murders, it is up to well-endowed Directing professor, Nicky Abbondanza to use his theatre skills (including playing other people) to solve the case, while he directs a murder mystery onstage. Complicating matters is Nicky’s intense crush on Assistant Professor of Acting, gorgeous Noah Oliver, the prime suspect in the murder. In Drama Muscle Nicky and Noah have to use their theatre skills to find out why musclemen are dropping like weights in the Physical Education department while Nicky directs the Student Bodybuilding Competition. In Drama Cruise (not yet released), Nicky and Noah go on a cruise to Alaska, and discover why college theatre professors are going overboard like lifeboats while Nicky directs a murder mystery dinner theatre show onboard ship.

Drama Queen (Nicky and Noah Mystery #1) Goodreads

My childhood summers at the New Jersey Shore led me to create a fictitious place I call Cozzi Cove, a gay resort of eight bungalows run by ex-professional athlete Cal Cozzi in a private cove on the Jersey Shore. Assisting Cal is ginger, muscular Connor, the maid packed with muscles and a roving sponge. In Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back the vacationers are two brothers/college students who look alike, but couldn’t be more different. Mario is searching for love, and Harold is searching for lust. A wealthy older couple, Josh and Greg, play matchmakers for their gorgeous son Christopher. Opposites attract as player Tim meets shy Mark, and porn star Chuck Caliber connects with Sean, a virgin romance novelist. Finally computer game designer Arthur has a midnight sea rendezvous with a merman. Even married Cal faces an emotional upheaval when a gay bashing turns into something quite unexpected for him. After Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back released, many readers and reviewers praised its romantic, humorous, dramatic, mysterious style, and interwoven captivating stories. So I wrote Cozzi Cove: Moving Forward, where the vacationers include Rodney Maxwell and Dennis O’Halloran, a Tony Award winning actor and his estranged producer/husband with their two hired bodybuilder studs, Jarek and Zeus. Computer analyst, Sam, enlists his best friend Chase in a scheme to attract Sam’s hunky, unsuspecting best friend, Raul. Hunter, a female gay romance novel enthusiast, wants to experience gay life off the page. Middle aged Gil Van Truren tries to end it all—until he sees a vision of his first love from college. Cal also has his hands full with his boyfriend’s study buddy the gorgeous and muscular Carlo, and resident man of mystery George Valis who seems to know a great deal about Cal’s past. As with the first book, romance is everywhere on Cozzi Cove, and nothing is what it seems.

Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back (Cozzi Cove, #1) Goodreads

In the Jana Lane mysteries, with straight leading characters and gay supporting characters, Jana Lane was the biggest child star ever until she was attacked on the studio lot at eighteen years old. In Paper Doll Jana at thirty-eight lives with her family in a mansion in picturesque Hudson Valley, New York. Her flashbacks from the past become murder attempts in her future. Forced to summon up the lost courage she had as a child, Jana ventures back to Hollywood, which helps her uncover a web of secrets about everyone she loves. She also embarks on a romance with the devilishly handsome son of her old producer, Rocco Cavoto. In Porcelain Doll (The Wild Rose Press), Jana makes a comeback film and uncovers who is being murdered on the set and why. Her heart is set aflutter by her incredibly gorgeous co-star, Jason Apollo. In Satin Doll (The Wild Rose Press), Jana and family head to Washington, DC, where Jana plays a US senator in a new film, and becomes embroiled in a murder and corruption at the senate chamber. She also embarks on a flirtation with Chris Bruno, the muscular detective. In China Doll (releasing late May from The Wild Rose Press), Jana heads to New York City to star in a Broadway play, enchanted by her gorgeous co-star Peter Stevens, and faced with murder on stage and off. Since the novels take place in the 1980’s, Jana’s best friends are gay, and Jana is somewhat of a gay activist, the AIDS epidemic is a large part of the novels.

Paper Doll (Jana Lane Mystery, #1) Goodreads

Where do you do most of your writing?

Like Martin Anderson, the theatre department head in my Nicky and Noah mysteries, I have a cozy study with a cherry wood desk, fireplace mantel, bookcases, and window seat looking out over the woods. Since I am a college theatre professor/department head, I write in the evenings. My mother said, “Don’t you have anything better to do at night than write books?” I wonder if Stephen King’s mother asked him that?

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

I am currently rereading Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City books. I love his quirky and likeable characters, plot twists and turns, and surprise endings. I was deeply touched when readers compared my Cozzi Cove beach series to the Tales of the City series.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

It’s not so different from reading. Writing is about letting yourself be swept away by a story (in your head) and becoming part of the novel. I relish in beautiful locations and captivating characters as I happily enter the portal of my book. I also enjoy humor, romance, mystery, and a good surprise ending.

I’ve also learned that I am quite versatile as a writer. In addition to the four very different series, I wrote A Home for the Holidays (a sweet romance in gorgeous Capri, Italy) and The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland (my gay take on my favorite fairytales like Cinderella, Pinocchio, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, and the Snow Queen) both published by Dreamspinner Press.

What are you working on now?

Given my love for series, I’m writing the next Cozzi Cove novel, Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out, and the next Jana Lane mystery, Ragdoll.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

My spouse is an audio book narrator. So on a Saturday night I am typically writing a book in my study, and he is typically narrating one in his studio in the next room.

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

The highest highs are receiving reviews and messages from readers telling me one of my books changed their lives. The lows are the few bad reviews. Why attack a book someone has poured his/her blood, sweat, and tears into? As the saying goes, just say no.

I receive this sort story for an honest review.

This is a sweet 2nd chance kind of book…not 2nd chance like old lovers finding their way back but old acquaintances being put together.  The couple have to look at their past and deal with how it is hindering their present.

Tommy was the all-star hot jock everyone loved.  He was also kind of a jerk because he was the hot all-star stud.  Abby was the butt of the popular kids jokes but who was also there to help with failing grades in school.  When roles are reversed and Abby is the hot shot and Tommy is the self-conscious Veteran, the two have a hard time remembering past issues and present roles.

I am the author of the humorous paranormal romances that make up The Colony series. I love paranormal romances featuring vampires, but my personal taste is light-hearted and humorous – not horrific and gory.

I live in Austin, Texas with my husband and two children. I enjoy meeting with my monthly critique writing groups and meeting other writers in the Austin area through the WLT events.

I have lived in many different parts of the world. I graduated high school in Germany and I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I received a degree in Computer Science with a minor in math.

Besides writing, I am an amateur portrait and sports photographer. After enjoying a career in the software engineering business, I discovered that writing is in my blood, and had to put pen to paper!
