#WOTR22 – #Review – With You (A Novella) by: J.M. Walker

Our world changed five years ago, and it left behind this gaping hole in our relationship.

We were now trying to figure out a way to move past a tragedy without losing ourselves in the process.

Married, with a son, we needed to communicate but neither of us wanted to talk about our loss. Instead, we focused on our little boy.

Finally, after having had enough, we took a trip, learned new things about each other, and fell into an even deeper kind of love.

We revealed new truths about one another and because of that, we could come out of this stronger in the end.

Author note: With You is part of the Perfectly Stated Series but Meadow and Shade can originally be found in With Us, book 2 in The Next Generation Series. With You is a continuation of their story and is 5 years after With Us takes place.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. FYI should read With Us before With You.

Meadow, Shade and Sunny’s story gutted me. I mean really after loosing Sunny these two would have a rough road.  They were all starting to click each had their own rolls in the partnership and then to have a piece be taken away.  We all knew it was not going to be easy on Meadow and Shade. JM takes us 5 years out after the loss of Sunny.

The anniversary of his death is upon them and they are both struggling with the loss and with how they fit together without their other piece. These two are determined to make it work. Shade decides to take Meadow on a trip. A trip where they can reconnect and remember Sunny. I absolutely love what Shade does for Meadow.  Can I just say the Pizza OMG I could just taste that amazingness.

I absolutely fell in love all over again with Meadow and Shade. To watch all their struggles and how they cover come them or at least figure a way to move forward was heartwarming.  To loss a loved one and be able to fight to continue on without them is moving.

Love the way JM writes real life issues and makes the feelings jump off the pages and into your heart. Makes you feel like you are right there going through everything with the characters good, bad, and ugly. This may have been a novella but it scooped me up and sucked me in with all the passion and love throughout the book.

#WOTR22 #attendingauthor #Spotlight – Dawn Brower

Dawn Brower

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Dawn Brower I write historical and contemporary romance. I’ve been writing since 2014 and love writing. I have two sons that are now grown. My dogs are my new babies, lol. You’ll see lots of pics of them if you follow my social media.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Usually the first because that’s where the world building begins, but every now and then one of the later ones decided to make my life difficult

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I mostly write historical. There are only so many scenarios you can put your characters in and make it work. The characters themselves are where you make it more interesting. Like certain quirks or hobbies. Most of my female heroines have strong personalities. They can be unpredictable at times. For instance In Never Dare a Hellion Christiana actually shoots the marquess after he dares her to. She regrets it later but in that moment she’s like dare me, the nerve. Then bang. Oops.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take breaks. Yes, you need to keep some momentum, but utilize self care. Burn out is real and your writing will suffer. Don’t get into the mindset you have to do everything. Also do not compare yourself to other writers. Not everything works for everyone and no one has the same path they need to follow.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to write a chapter a day. Whatever that word count ends up being. I like to have something finalized. If I can’t do a whole chapter I at least end at a scene.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I really adore the Marquess of Foxworth. He kind of stands out across the whole series. Some of the things that come out of his mouth are hilarious.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Wow I have no idea but it would be amazing to see some more period pieces like Bridgerton. My Linked Across Time series is extensive and might be interesting to see o see adapted. With the past and present it would have more options. Like Outlander. The two main characters James and Alys (Searching for My Rogue) I think I would like to see Madelaine Petsch and Ben Barnes

What is your definition of success?

Finishing something I started. Sometimes that’s the hardest part.

#review #partofaseries #mysterysuspense —The Flock (Ravenhood book 1) by: Kate Stewart

Can you keep a secret?

I grew up sick.⁣

Let me clarify.⁣

I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy.⁣

Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic hearts, which resulted in my illness.⁣

When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naïve. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow.⁣

Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets.⁣

Secrets that cost us everything to keep.⁣

That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to.⁣

Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence due to my illness.⁣

And all were punished.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

The Flock is the first book of 2021 that I would give more than 5 stars if I could. And it left me struggling to write a review worthy of the epic story I just read.

This book came highly recommend from a friend. I went in blind and couldn’t put it down. It consumed an entire Saturday,  I was determined to finish the book. Nothing was more important than the answers to all of the questions bouncing around in my head.

The ending left me with more questions than answers but I know that I will always remember this story. The plot is original and the characters were unforgettable. I had ALL THE FEELS while reading and cannot wait to dive into book 2, where I hopefully find the answers I seek.

#WOTR22 #attendingauthor #Spotlight – Skye Malone

Skye Malone

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Skye Malone (they/them). I’m an urban fantasy and paranormal romance writer of nearly twenty books, currently based out of Central Illinois. I love (and write) action-packed stories with car chases, fights, and magic. My current series is a post-apocalyptic shifter paranormal romance based on Norse mythology called The Shifters of Ragnarok. When I’m not writing, I’m usually taking care of my retired racing greyhound or my three-legged mutt.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The other ones after it, every single time.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

The series is one big story to me, so there are overarching plot lines and things still to be discovered in every book. I’m usually excited for the later books in a series, not bored, because I get to explore events and show developments I (and hopefully readers) have been looking forward to throughout all the previous books.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

You’re not a machine, so figure out what is sustainable for you long-term. While you might be _able_ to do X amount of books a year, can you keep that pace? Things will come up in life that cause chaos. Nothing you can do about that. So don’t base your professional plan on you operating at 110% capacity all the time. You’ll crash and probably hurt your health. Elana Johnson says “start as you mean to go,” so always plan with an eye to the future and how you intend to operate five or ten years from now.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Four or five hours, sometimes more

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Ashe from the Kindling Trilogy. That trilogy was my first published work, and I’d been thinking about that story for nearly fifteen years, so I’d spent a LOT of time with her character and scenes in my head. I also just deeply enjoyed writing her story, more than I can say, so she has a very special place in my heart.

#NewRelease #Holiday – FAKED (a sexy Christmas romance) by Sarah Darlington

Faked

Faking it. I’d been faking it ever since I was sixteen years old.

Every orgasm during sex.
Fake.
Every sigh and moan. Every compliment and encouragement.
Fake.
No, sir, you do not have the biggest one I’ve ever seen.
Every cute conversation and sultry smile with a customer across the bar.
Fake. Fake. Fake.

So, why was it this hard for me to find a fake date to my sister’s wedding? Christmas was in one week, her wedding on the 26th, and I had yet to find some handsome, brainless, charismatic nobody to pretend to be my date for what was sure to be one week of utter hell.

Then I decided on him. The creepy regular from my bar. He might have potential with a makeover, but this… was going to be a disaster!
