Love Bitters (AntiLove Bookclub) by [Brandy Slaven]

If there’s one thing Imogene loves more than falling for five strangers on an accidental shared vacation, it’s definitely not having to let them go as reality slaps her in place.

With another life growing inside her body, it’s time for her to finally make the changes she’s desperately been avoiding since her sister’s death. Landing a job and an apartment is easy. Learning how to live alone and deal is the hard part. Thankfully with the help of some like-minded women and their appropriately named bookclub, Imma might just make it through the next nine months and maybe even more. Will she be able to stand on her own two feet when the past comes calling and decisions catch up to her? Find out in this first installment of the AntiLove Bookclub.

All eight AntiLove book club novels can be read as standalones. This installment is a WhyChoose, second chance romance with unplanned pregnancy and M/M.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

Oh Imma!! Oh hot boyfriends!!  LOL  If you haven’t read the novella “ Loves Little Surprises” then this is a great story for you!!!  For people like Me who met Imma and her 5 sexy as hell mens…this book was what happened IN BETWEEN the novella.

Ok long of the short of it, Imma (in the novella) went on vacation and shacked up with these guys when the house was double booked.  The guys and Imma formed an instant bond of love and belonging.  The story picks up when Imma realizes this might not work annnnd now she is knocked up.

But

  1. Will the guys be ok with it?
  2. Who is the baby daddy?
  3. Will there be an issue with one being the baby daddy and the others not being the baby daddy?

So many questions cause our lonely girl to breaks and ruuuuuuns.  She cuts the guys out of her life and tries to rebuild.  She gets a job and moves into her own place while the guys are starting to fracture and fall apart without their girl.

When one of the guys plots with another to bring her home, everything esems better buuuuut drama ensues.  Can they make it work?  Can they handle her pregnancy?  Can they figure out a family?

This book was a great bit of “More” for me since I loved the novella but begged for a longer story.

Now I gotta tell ya, Imma’s friends are HILARIOUS and I and I am dying for their books.  Those ladies are Bat Shit Crazy in the best kinda friend way.

But my favorite part was the cameo of Kendall and her guys….sigh….a reread might be in order!!!

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I loved this anti-love book club concept really get a bunch of ladies together and talk about how unrealistic the books are compared to real life.  Let me tell you these ladies are not love experts by any means. They are a melting pot of personalities.

First up is Imma who lost her sister and is dealing with her Mom and Dad being over critical of her.  She still lives at home and doesn’t have a job. She finds out that she is pregnant but not sure who the dad is because of a fling with 5 guys she met when a vacation took a minor detour.  Imma decides she needs to figure things out on her own.  She is afraid of what the guys will say and not knowing who the dad is she decides to ghost them.

All the guys are miserable that Im has left them high and dry with no word on why. That is until Wes finds her and confronts her. This was such a great homecoming for the guys and Im.  I really would like to know more about all Imma’s men because I fell in love with everyone of them. I do believe Thatcher is my favorite. He was the one that took the longest to come around when Imma returned.

I loved these guys I do wish I could have seen where their relationship began at the cabin. Let’s not forget the anti-love book club ladies.  I want to be in their book club and I cannot wait to learn about all of them.  I’m telling you these ladies have so much they are hiding from one another.  I liked the start of this series and cannot wait for more.

#Review – Here Lies a Saint: A Dark Bully Academy Romance by C.L. Matthews

Being rich is great until you become the saint of Arcadia.
Gentleman.
Charmer.
All-star.
They call me a saint, but if they knew the lies, the fallacies,
and what truths I hide, I’d be labeled a proclaimed sinner.
I lie, do all the bad deeds, especially if it does right by her.
She’s the darkness but also the light.
He’s my downfall but also my redemption.
Two opposites, but somehow everything I’ve fought for.
Earning her, saving him, it’s all I can think of.
Saint or sinner, I’ll win her.
Death or life, I’ll protect him.
Truth or lie, I’ll save them.
Arcadia isn’t prepared for the war its wrought.
Good thing I’m a fighter.
No one said I’d bow down to an unworthy king.

This series is insane! This book is insane! Just when I thought I knew what was happening and who was the bad guy and so on, boy was I wrong! I think the only person I trust is Colt.

When I started this series, I hadn’t read a lot of reverse harem type books. Maybe one or two but this series is hands down my favourite. And we still get three more books!

This is book 2 in the Here Lies Series and I definitely recommend reading the first book. I personally don’t think it should be read on it’s own, so grab book 1!

There is so much lies and deception in this book, it’s unreal! And can we talk about the hotness as well? I first started writing this review before I was completely done the book. I was actually going to say that book one has way more sexy times in it but…I think they’re both equal. There’s a scene close to the end of the book, in a woods that is beyond hot. CL Matthews definitely knows her way around a sex scene.

I find that the more questions that get answered, the more we’re left with unanswered questions just the same. Which I’m loving! There’s secrets, a kind of who-dunnit feel and you’re left not knowing who you can trust.

By the ending of the book, I was holding my breath through the last couple of chapters, trying to figure out what was going to happen and hoping for the best that nothing would happen to the characters I had fallen in love with.

Definitely an amazing read and I can’t wait for book 3!

#Review – Bully King by Andi Jaxon

I’m the pastor’s son.
He’s the star quarterback for a small Kentucky high school.
While the town worships him, I pray for God to take my life.
He makes my life a living hell by making me his victim.
This perverse game we play could end us both.
How can something that feels so right be so wrong?
The price if the truth is discovered is death, but I can’t stop.
Neither can he.
No one can know.
Can I risk it?
Is Roman King worth dying for?

*This story is a bully romance including dubious consent, assault, talk of suicide and is intended for readers 18+. Please proceed with caution.*

Twinsie Jo’s Review:

Oh my gosh. Where do I even begin?????? So I’ve known Andi Jaxon for awhile now. She started out as a client (I do designing on the side) and then we became friends AND to top it off, she reads my stuff too!! I’m also an author but I consider her a friend first and foremost! Anyway. So she had me read a novella about Roman and Jonah and I was like, sure! It was short, I had time, so I figured, why not right?? I read it, loved it but needed more. Which usually happens after reading a novella. Am I right? I knew Bully King was about Roman and Jonah and of course I had pre-ordered it. So when Andi offered me an ARC, I was himming and hawing because I wasn’t sure if I would get it read in time for release day. According to Goodreads, I read it in 4 days, which hasn’t happened to me in quite awhile. I’m a super slow reader but GAH, this book!

First, if you love MM (male/male) books, you absolutely HAVE to pre-order this now or one-click this on release day!

This book borders on dark. It deals with some sensitive subjects but it was so well written, it’s easy to see through the darkness to find the light.

Both Roman and Jonah spoke to me.

While Roman had a difficult life at home, Jonah’s home life wasn’t easy either. Being a gay kid with a preacher of a father, especially with where they live, made it even more difficult.

Jonah: Oh my gosh, this sweet sweet boy. His fear over what his father would think if he found out his son is gay. His fear over what the town would think. His fear is real. It’s there. It’s raw.

Roman: This boy stressed me out something fierce. He was mean but nice. Cold but warm. He needed Jonah but pushed him away. His pain was in your face and you saw it even though he hid it.

I absolutely loved Mary! And the rest of the side characters!

Jonah and Roman together was insane. They were passionate and aggressive.

There were parts of this story that even I had a hard time reading and had to put my tablet down for a breath or two. There was also a chapter where I held my breath through it all. A book has not caused these sort of feelings to stir in me in such a long time.

10 stars, Andi! 10 freaking huge bright shiny stars! I am so proud of you! Now give me more words. xx

#WOTR21 #NewRelease #AgeGap #OppositesAttract- Take Me Home by AD Ellis

A.D. Ellis is an Indiana girl, born and raised. She spends much of her time in central Indiana as an instructional coach/teacher in the inner city of Indianapolis, being a mom to two amazing school-aged children, and wondering how she and her husband of nearly two decades haven’t driven each other insane yet. A lot of her time is also devoted to phone call avoidance and her hatred of cooking.
She loves chocolate, wine, pizza, and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework, much to the chagrin of her husband. Who would pick cleaning the house over a nap or a good book? She uses any extra time to increase her fluency in sarcasm.
A.D. uses she/her pronouns.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 STARS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review

Marcus Kingley works for the family business. He’s content with his life that consists of lots of work and the occasional hookup with random men, for a night of no-strings-attached, meaningless sex.
He begins to question if he’s really been living when the family dr tells him he needs to take some time off. His health is suffering due to his rigorous work schedule. Marcus is told by his grandfather he must take some time off. He’s not exactly happy about this but he has no other choice.

Jordan Moore is a carpenter and farmer in a small town. He loves his small town life and would never dream of living anywhere else. He is resigned to being alone because his business that pays the bills and puts food on the table is way more important than everyone in town knowing his business!

When the men’s lives become intertwined, neither of them are prepared for what happens next.

A.d Ellis has once again wrote an absolutely amazing MM romance. Every couple she writes, I love, and Macus & Jordan were no different. I honestly cannot pick a favorite of these 2. They each had their own little quirks that made me fall in love with them and their story.

#WOTR21 #Anthology #NewRelease – Bad, Dad, and Dangerous by Bru Baker, Rhyse Ford, Jenn Moffatt, TA Moore

Bru Baker is the attending author.

Bad, Dad, and Dangerous

Title: Bad, Dad, and Dangerous Anthology

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

When the kids are away, the monsters will play.

School’s out for summer, and these dads are ready to ship their kids off to camp. Not just because their kids are monsters—whose aren’t?—but because they’re ready for some alone time to let their hair down and their fangs out. You see, not only are the kids monsters—their dads are too.

Even the most dangerous of creatures has a soft spot. These bad, dangerous dads love their kids to death, but they need romance.

Every year, for a few short weeks, these hot men with a little extra in their blood get to be who they truly are. And this year, life has a surprise for them. Whether they be mage, shifter, vampire, or changeling, these heartbreakingly handsome dads might be looking to tear up the town… but they’ll end up falling in love. All it takes is the right man to bring them to their knees.

KISMET & CADAVERS BY JENN MOFFATT

Thomas Anders is prepared for two weeks of alone time, or as alone as he can be living with his daughter’s sentient undead cat, running the family occult shop, and keeping San Diego safe from the strange and supernatural. What he doesn’t expect is for KJ Beshter to arrive in his shop bearing a gift card Thomas’s daughter cast a spell on. Thomas has met her handsome magic-sensitive teacher before, but now that Star is moving up a grade, he can cross that line. It would be perfect timing if something wicked didn’t want to sink its claws into KJ too….

MONSTER HALL PASS BY BRU BAKER

White-collar dad Hugh Whitby dotes on his adopted daughter, but she’s away at camp. Now it’s time let the vampiric urges he so tightly controls run wild and take advantage of his monster hall pass to feed on criminals. But when fae prince Rykoff of Harlow interrupts Hugh feeding, he catches Hugh’s daughter’s scent and vows to avenge the fae youngling he believes Hugh has captured.

Hugh had no idea his daughter wasn’t human, and it rocks the foundation of his world. He must convince Rykoff that the fae youngling in question is safe with her vampire dad and can prosper in the mortal realm—or risk losing her forever.

WOLF AT FIRST SIGHT BY RHYS FORD

SFPD Lieutenant Joseph Zanetti has spent years protecting his city, and from the looks of St. Connal’s Pub and its bad-boy owner, Levi Keller, the place is a hotspot for trouble and violence. Joe’s problem? Levi is delectably hot, with secrets Joe can’t wait to dig into.

As a Peacekeeper for paranormals, wolf shifter Levi doesn’t need the complication of a hot cop sniffing around his pub when he’s just sent his teen son off to summer camp. He’s busy brokering a peace agreement between two warring factions. When Joe stumbles into Levi’s world, both plunge into a situation neither one of them was ready for—falling in love.

ELF SHOT BY TA MOORE

All Conri wanted was to drop his kid off at Changeling camp, find the nearest halfway nice hotel, and enjoy a week of uncomplicated debauchery. It should be simple. It doesn’t work out that way.

When a local girl disappears, the neighborhood quickly lays blame at the well-guarded gates of the camp. With his son incriminated, a mystery to solve, and a malevolent pocket of the Otherworld to navigate, Conri will need all the help he can get—even if it does come from a distractingly pretty, tightly wound Iron Door agent who doesn’t trust Conri to be on the right side.

Head: Bonus scene: Trying not to vamp out at a PTA meeting

Thanks for joining me on today’s tour stop for the Bad, Dad, and Dangerous anthology. I teamed up with Rhys Ford, Jenn Moffatt, and TA Moore to imagine a world where dads who spend most of the year doting on their kids–baking cupcakes for the PTA and restraining their baser urges–can let their hair down for a few weeks while their kids are at summer camp and embrace their inner monsters.

I introduced my character Hugh from Monster Hall Pass at my last tour stop, and gave readers a taste of his interactions with his daughter, Ruby. Today I’m going to share a bonus scene that gives you a seat at the PTA meeting he references in the excerpt in my last post. Because it’s got to be hard to be an energy vampire on a good day–and any day you’re at a PTA meeting is most certainly not a good day.

Bonus prequel scene to Monster Hall Pass:

“I don’t care if you’re going to be recovering from surgery, Lila, you’re the chair of the games committee. You have to be at International Games Night.”

Hugh’s mouth watered as he breathed in the spicy scent of Lila’s anger. It was surprisingly nuanced, considering who it was coming from. He’d been on several PTA committees with Lila over the years, and the woman had never been anything but kind and accommodating. Too accommodating, in his opinion. Which is why the PTA president seemed to have no problem insisting she come run the school’s games night fundraiser a week after she scheduled to have major surgery.

“I won’t even be able to stand unassisted at that point, Beverly. I’m happy to help organize everything I can before the fundraiser, but I can’t be there in person to help that night.”

Hugh fought the urge to take a deep breath and savor the anger and irritation that was building in the room. PTA meetings were always an exercise in self control for an energy vampire like him. He fed off negative emotions, and any gathering that involved Beverly was guaranteed to have the auras of half the parents in the room lit up like Vegas.

“I’m happy to oversee the games the night of the festival,” Hugh chimed in, cursing himself for volunteering as soon as the words crossed his lips.

He was already in charge of organizing food trucks for the event, and he’d gotten his own tongue lashing from Beverly earlier in the meeting because he hadn’t managed to book the kinds of food she thought they should have. Beverly had ridiculously out-of-touch ideas considering this was a games night fundraiser at an elementary school. He doubted there’d be much demand for tapas or the weird raclette truck that he could smell from a mile away, but he’d majorly scored and the Kona Ice truck was going to kick back a percentage of sales to the PTA.

“If Lila wants to keep her position as fundraising chair on the board she’ll attend herself,” Beverly snapped.

Hugh shot Lila an apologetic glance, nearly swallowing his tongue at the way her aura glowed. He’d heard of being incandescent with rage, but she actually was. Her normally peaceful aura was shot through with reds and blacks that he normally associated with rapists and murderers. That was interesting.

But it wasn’t doing good things for his hunger. He needed to feed, and not at the PTA meeting. As much as he’d love to literally suck the meanspirited wind out of Beverly’s sails, he couldn’t risk exposing his vampiric nature or putting his daughter at risk.

So he settled for sneaking his phone out under the table and shooting off a quick text to the babysitter who was with Ruby right now.

Something came up. Any chance you can keep Ruby overnight? I’ll pay you double your rate.

He tried his best not to feed around home, but if he didn’t deal with this hunger spike soon he could seriously slip up. And as much as he could ill afford to pay a fool’s ransom to the babysitter to keep Ruby, he also couldn’t afford to lay waste to the PTA.

No matter how much that bitch Beverly deserved it.

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.
Hugh is raising his adopted daughter on his own. He can’t wait to drop her off at summer camp. Its his one time a year, to take care of his own needs. You see, Hugh is a vampire, and he needs to feed.
Rykoff is in the human world on a mission of his own when he comes across Hugh. Things with the 2 of them start off rocky due to Rykoff’s preconceived notions. The 2 of them must work together to save the day. The question is– will they be able to set their differences aside to get the job done?
Monster Hall Pass was a quick, fun read within the Bad, Dad, and Dangerous Anthology. I enjoyed the story. Bru Baker is a new to me author but I will definitely be reading more books from her after finishing this one.

#REVIEW – Loveless: A Male-Male Forbidden Romance by C.L. Matthews

I lie to everyone my entire life.
Hiding.
Lonely.
Loveless.
Then he came along.
The light to reveal me, casting my shadows away.
The partner to be here for me, who never allows me to be lonely again.
The man to prove I’m worthy, promising to show me I’m not loveless after all.
My little prince.
My savior.
My happy ending.
Mine.

Oh this little story was delicious!! While it was short, I didn’t feel like it took away from the story at all. I do wish there was more, just like an update kind of thing but alas, I’ll have to wait for Cassie to give us more MM fun.

Prim and Texas are best friends. After Texas has a horrible run in when his father catches him in the middle of something, Texas runs to Prim for help. Little did he know that he would meet a secret person in the mean time.

After a delicious encounter at a bar, super super hot scene by the way, Texas lets Prim help him.

And when he meets Prim’s father…well…you’ll just have to read to find out. 😉
