#WOTR22 #attendingauthor #Spotlight – PJ Fiala

PJ Fiala

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Patti Fiala, but I write as PJ Fiala. It’s not much of a stretch, I know. My husband and I have been married for 36 years and have been blessed. My careers have been varied, from waitressing, to factory work, to hair stylist, to business owner then to paralegal. After many years working in the legal field, I decided to finally sit down and write my first book in 2014. That started my final career – writing/publishing. I’ve written 28 books to date and have more coming. I have story ideas that will outlive me so I just keep writing to get as many of them out of my head as I can. When not writing, my husband and I ride our motorcycles around and visit as many inspiring places as we can. We really do live in a beautiful country.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The others after it for me. I normally know how a series will start and end, but fitting all the pieces in the middle can be a challenge.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to add different tropes to each book in a series, which then changes up the stories. I know if I’m bored writing a story, readers will be bored reading it, so keeping it fresh is not only important, but a necessity.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

You need to know this is a long game. Don’t take on all the social media to find readers – you’ll find that all it does is take up valuable writing time. Do do all the things – you’ll find tons of time wasted when you could have finished a book. Basically, pace yourself and put out the best product you can put out. Find a great team to work with you – editors, cover designers, beta readers. Over the long run, those will be the most important people in your career.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Likely only a couple of hours. The business part of this business is time consuming. The writing part of this business is draining. So, I start the day with business. If I have a book to format and upload, that gets done first. Otherwise, I can’t focus on my book. I keep thinking, “Gosh I need to get XXX done.” So, I get my business stuff done, then focus for a couple of hours on the writing. It works for me.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I hate to pick, I love them all. They’re like my children. But, I do have one that is special, and she’s that way for a reason. Jax Masters Sager, is a character I hold dear to my heart. She speaks her mind. She’s strong without being bitchy. She’s tough as nails and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. She doesn’t sit in the corner and wait to be saved, she runs in and saves others. She never second guesses herself because she’s confident as hell. She’s special, because I want to be her. Just like her.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Moving to Love’s Jeremiah Sheppard could be played by Brad Pitt. Think Brad in Legends of the Fall with the long hair and rugged look. Ford: Finding his Fire’s Ford Montgomery would be played by Liev Schreiber as he is in Ray Donovan. Doesn’t small talk, doesn’t suffer fools, and isn’t interested in gossip. Strong and silent. Saving Shelby’s Diego Josephs would be played by Bradley Cooper.

What is your definition of success?

Success for me is completing a book and hearing that readers love it. That doesn’t mean I need only praise, it just means so much goes into creating a new world, characters and situations for readers to enjoy is part of the reason I do it. The other part is that I enjoy it. To have both, is a blessing.

#WOTR22 #AttendingAuthor #Spotlight – Nan Reinhardt

Nan Reinhardt

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Nan Reinhardt BIO: Nan Reinhardt is a USA Today bestselling author of romantic fiction for Tule Publishing. Her day job is working as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader, however, writing is Nan’s first and most enduring passion. She can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t writing—she wrote her first romance novel at the age of ten and is still writing, but now from the viewpoint of a wiser, slightly rumpled woman in her prime. Nan lives in the Midwest with her husband of 48 years, where they split their time between a house in the city and a cottage on a lake.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I think the first because that’s when you create the setting, the secondary characters, and the secondary plot lines that will carry through the rest of the series.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

It’s all about creating a place that readers want to go or want to live, as well as secondary characters who are fun. Giving a secondary character a story that follows through several books is a great way to keep readers and myself engaged. Sorta like Carly Hayes and Mac Mackenzie in my River’s Edge books–so far I’m on book #7 with 3 more River’s Edge books contracted (and who knows after that?) and Mac and Carly have been together since book #2 and readers love them. I think because they are an older couple who are getting a second chance at love and they’re an unlikely pair.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Breathe. Creativity can’t blossom in a tense, uptight (I know I’m dating myself!) brain, so just breathe and write…even if you’re not working on your book, write something–your journal, an article, a blog. If you’re stuck and feeling like you can’t write, go out and take a walk or do something completely mindless. Also, fill the creative well with books and films and well-done TV shows. Absorb narrative.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I’m also a freelance copy editor and proofreader, so my day job takes up a good bit of my day. However, I get up every morning at 6 am and write for at least 2 hours, until my husband wakes up and our day begins. That’s my best time to write.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

My favorite character is always the one I’m currently writing, although I do confess to having a special place in my heart for Brendan Flaherty in The Baby Contract, because he’s sorta loosely based on my kid.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I’d be delighted if any one of my books were made into a movie–I’d say right now, I’d love to see my upcoming The Valentine Wager (releases 2/1/22) made into a film. I’d pick Simon Baker to play hot cop Ryker Lange and maybe Leighton Meester to play Irish spitfire Kitt Boynton.

What is your definition of success?

I believe success is being happy with who you are and what you doing right now in this moment, and if you’re trying to make the world a little bit better place–that’s a good thing, too.

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Michel Prince, multi genre author easily distracted by squirrels and shiny objects.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Others. I’m really bad at writing down important details while writing and I have to go back multiple times to previous books to make sure I have eyes, hair, tattoo’s, parents names etc are correct.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Different issues, while issues can be on a similar path every character like every person gets there a different way. While there are book formula’s that doesn’t mean you have to use the same ingredients.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Walk away, take the shower, take the stroll, find a hobby that allows you let your brain rest.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

One to ten hours. Breaks happen, so do good and bad days. All you can do is accept something was put down, reviewed or edited.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I like my characters that are smart asses best. Esme, Bounty, and Mandy are a few of favorites

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Amara Acquired, Jessica Biel, Betty White, Darby Stanchfield…. Haven’t figured out the heroes yet.

#WOTR22 #Trilogy #Mafia #BadBoy – Appointed by Fate (3 book series) by Skye McNeil

Appointed by Fate

Exonerated with Love

Credence

Appointed by Fate-

One of Iowa’s most prominent criminal attorneys, Joci Dorous is ruthless and devoid of emotion in the courtroom. It’s what makes her the best. Her most recent client allegedly committed murder and, despite a rocky start, Joci is determined to win Cameron Shearer’s case.

Since this is her first homicide, she has the support of a second-chair attorney—her ex who wants her back. To make things more complicated, her hunky cop of a booty call, Cameron’s arresting officer, isn’t quite ready to let her go either. Who knew being surrounded by three hot guys could be so deliciously exhausting?

As the mystery of the case unravels, she soon discovers the true reason behind Cameron’s impromptu visit to Iowa. It’s this knowledge that endangers all those she holds dear. Caught up in confusion, chaos, and criminal law, how will her heart survive the final verdict?

Exonerated with Love-

Can second chances really exist for a bad boy mobster and the only woman to ever steal his heart?

There’s a hit out on Cameron Shearer’s life, his mafia ties dragging him down the path of darkness once more. After a harrowing meeting, he discovers no one ever stays dead when you’re in the mafia. Determined not to lose the only woman he’s loved, Cameron turns to the Del Rossi mob for one last favor. Unfortunately for him, the ending may not be as happy as he once hoped.

Joci Dorous has it all. She’s happy, engaged, and just started her own law firm with her best friend. Everything appears perfect, until she discovers a suspicious trail of money in her business accounts and her once dutiful fiancé suddenly turns as shady as his mob boss. When strangers clash amid mobs, Joci is left to decipher who her heart truly belongs to

Credence –

Alliances are tested the final installment in Cameron and Joci’s love story when mobsters and lawyers collide.

Cameron Shearer’s life as a police officer is put on hold when the Del Rossi mob demands restitution. One last job with the mob then he’s done for good. Too bad for him his ex-girlfriend—and sister of his mafia boss—isn’t on the same page. Thrown into a life of heists, arrests, and his past, Cameron must walk the line of good and evil.

When Cameron is forced back to his mobster ways, Joci must face a potential future without him. Juggling two law firms, a family, and the mob is harder than she could’ve prepared for. Just when she thinks life falls into place, something disrupts their future.

#WOTR22 #AttendingAuthor #Spotlight – Marie Piper

Marie Piper

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hello! I’m Marie Piper, I live in Chicago, and I write American Historical Romance.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I tend to think the following books in a series are harder than the first book, because you’ve got boundaries you’ve set for yourself and established things that you can’t really change.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

If you can find something – an element, a character, a scene – that you’re excited about and that feels fresh and new, it can carry you through the less-inspiring times.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Taking long solo walks to let your mind wander. Getting plenty of sleep. Reading books by other amazing authors.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I don’t really have a daily routine – I’m a homeschool Mom, so I fit writing in whenever I can!

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I will always love Billie, the heroine of HIS BLUEBIRD BRIDE which is the first book in my Gilded Brides series, because I wrote her book in response to a writer’s group I was in at the time who basically all believed that a former prostitute or madam couldn’t be a heroine. I disagreed…so I wrote a series full of former prostitute/madam heroines. Billie’s book was the first time I felt really free to write what I wanted to read.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Christina Hendricks would be an amazing Billie in a movie of HIS BLUEBIRD BRIDE….though I think the Gilded Brides series could make for a good TV series, as there are plenty of characters to explore.

What is your definition of success?

Being able to write my weird little books and have some people like them. That’s enough for me.

#WOTR22 #NewRelease – With You by JM Walker

Our world changed five years ago, and it left behind this gaping hole in our relationship.

We were now trying to figure out a way to move past a tragedy without losing ourselves in the process.

Married, with a son, we needed to communicate but neither of us wanted to talk about our loss. Instead, we focused on our little boy.

Finally, after having had enough, we took a trip, learned new things about each other, and fell into an even deeper kind of love.

We revealed new truths about one another and because of that, we could come out of this stronger in the end.

Author note: With You is part of the Perfectly Stated Series but Meadow and Shade can originally be found in With Us, book 2 in The Next Generation Series. With You is a continuation of their story and is 5 years after With Us takes place.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

Sunny, Shade, and Meadow.  They were a hot AF book to read.  I mean MMF and MFM is delicious to read IMO.  If you are a fan of the series, we know what the evil author is known to do…kill people.  FREAKING JM!!!  So its not a spoiler to say this novella is taking place 5 years after the loss of Sunny.

Shade and Meadow are in love.  They have baby Andrew and yet something it not right.  They are not connecting fully.  They talk but they don’t TALK.  With the anniversary of the death other loved partner is pending Shade tales the initiative to make things right between his wife and him.  He wants to heal the wound and figure out what is happening between them.

Meadow is lost without Sunny. but she is also starting to spiral with the thought of losing Shade.  She knows he loves her, but her self-doubt and self-issues make her worry she isn’t enough for the man she is married too.

The novella is a great peak into the couple who is left to see what they do.  Can they fix it or do they also lose what is left .

J.M. Walker is an Amazon bestselling author who hit USA Today with Wanted: An Outlaw Anthology. She loves all things books, pigs and lip gloss. She is happily married to the man who inspires all of her Heroes and continues to make her weak in the knees every single day.

“Above all, be the HEROINE of your own life…” ~ Nora Ephron

#WOTR22 #attendingauthor #Spotlight – Kate Hawthorne

Kate Hawthorne

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi! My name is Kate and I’m your friendly neighborhood LGBT romance author. I was born and raised in California and lived there over three decades before relocating to Louisville (for my other job). We’ve (me, my husband, daughter, and dog) have been in KY for two years now, and while I miss the food and weather in CA, I love it here. Speaking of food. I love it. I’m a super food motivated person and the way to my heart is with books, wine, and good snacks.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I definitely think the subsequent books in a series are harder, but the first book comes with its own kinds of pressure. In the first book, you’re really tasked with setting up a world that’s interesting enough to keep readers coming back for the rest of the books ON TOP of the relationship story you’re trying to tell. But then the follow up books rely so much on the characters, you can’t really fall back on the world like you could in the first one. So, I guess they’re hard in different ways.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to keep things fresh by turning reader expectations on their heads. I think it’s a lot of fun to keep at least one character a little secretive and drop hints about him. Readers will start to form ideas and opinions about who his love interest will be or what his back story is, and then I get to write him completely differently if I want to! I think as an author it’s really important to listen to your characters and what they’re telling you, and being in tune with them and their stories keeps me on my toes, too!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Place value on your time. Being an author is a job, even if it’s something that you’re doing in your spare time/on the side. Your time is valuable, and you need to be responsible with it. Know what your priorities are, make schedules, and be respectful of your own time.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

A handful of hours. Since I have another full time job (that pays much more), my time is split. I write at least an hour in the morning while I have my coffee, and then I write over lunch, and then again at the end of the day.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I think it would be impossible to choose. So many of my characters are important to me for different reasons. The one that is standing out to me right now is a character in my book Unfettered. His name is Heath, and I put a lot of my own history into his character development, so he has a special place in my heart, for sure.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

This is so hard to choose!!! If I could turn my FIRST book, His Kind of Love, into a movie I would totally cast Oscar Isaac as Gabriel and Freddy Carter as Joel.

What is your definition of success?

I think success varies widely from person to person, and it even varies for me from day to day. I don’t think all success should be financial. For me, being happy with the work I’m doing is success. Being recognized by my peers for being good at what I do is success. Touching readers lives…also success.

#WOTR22 #attendingauthor #spotlight- T. Torrest

T. Torrest

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Tina, and I’m a bestselling romantic comedy author. I’m also a born and bred Jersey girl who watches too many movies. If you’ve ever read any of my books, you’ll see I’m a bit stuck in the 80s and 90s. Then again, I was an 80s teen (with the big-hair pictures to prove it), and it was one helluva fun decade. My favorite food is sandwiches.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I would say the last in a series is toughest to write. When starting a series, I can just let the ideas flow and see where the story takes me. Subsequent books take way more planning to make sure every loophole has been closed by the final page. When it all comes together, it’s the most satisfying feeling in the world.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

By setting each book in a different location or time period… centering each story on a different couple with cameo appearances from characters from earlier books… There are lots of ways to change things up while still keeping each series of books within a centralized theme.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Just fucking do it. Seriously. I have readers telling me all the time that they wish they could write a book. My advice is to always be writing, even if it’s just a paragraph a night. Sure it may take ten years before it’s finished, but time is going to pass regardless. When it does, you’ll either be holding your finished book in your hands… or not.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Oh don’t go by me. I’m a mess. I’ll write 20 words one day then 5000 the next. You can’t force creativity, but it’s important to at least open that doc every day. You never know when a spurt will strike!

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I gotta go with Trip. He’s hot, sweet, funny, cocky, and cool. Oh, and he’s also a god between the sheets. How could he not be my favorite??

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

The dream is for the Remember When trilogy to be turned into a 3-season series on Netflix. Since it’s set in the 80s, I’m obsessed with the idea of casting Zoey Deutch as Layla, and Lea Thompson as her mother (mother/daughter IRL). I still haven’t found the perfect Trip yet, but then again that’s a tall order.

What is your definition of success?

Raising empathetic kids. Being married to a true partner. Finding your passion and following it. Loving your friends and family. Being the kind of person who will be missed when they’re gone. Being able to give back.

#WOTR22 #AttendingAuthor #Spotlight – Jennifer Daniels

Jennifer Daniels

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hey hey! I’m Jennifer Daniels. I write Fantasy/Romance books. I’m from Upstate, NY in the Adirondack Mountains! My debut book Opalla, was published in October 2017.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

There are four books in Opalla. In the fourth book I had a hard time writing Poppy’s character. She is very happy go lucky, meets people easily and that is so not me. I had a hard the trying to relate to her character.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I keep a book bible of all of my books and I try not to repeat things that I have already done. I switch things up between writing a romance for one book than maybe switch up the next book to be a fantasy book.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take a break and walk away if your drained. Go do something fun or just walk away. There have been months before I could even sit and think of something to write.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Sending days no time other days it could be hours. It just depends on the characters and what they are saying to me.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Lyndy is my favorite character in the Opalla book. She is alot like myself and I could relate well with her. It felt natural to write about her.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I always have a hard time with this question. Because in my head the female characters are my family members (in a way) I have to have a mental picture of a person and it’s always my family. And my male character is always my husband. Opalla would be cool and there are four books in the series😋

What is your definition of success?

For me writing became my therapy after my last back surgery. Writing made me feel like I had accomplished something and I hadn’t felt that way in a very long time. My success was personal and it helped me be me again.

#WOTR22 #AttendingAuthor #Spotlight – Jade Waltz

Jade Waltz

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I am Jade Waltz. I am mother of two sons and a handful of cats. When I am not weaving stories or writing marching band drill, I am playing video games with my friends or knitting. I’m addicted to green tea and mints.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones after it. My Project: Adapt series is going to be 9 books long, and each book needs to build on everything that has already happened while keeping the reader’s attention. My series bible for it is over 100k words…. the size of one of the books in my series alone.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I don’t like doing the same thing twice — even between series. I always try to think of ways to improve the outlines and make it unique.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

If you are stuck in a writer’s block, try outlining or writing a different story. Whenever I do, it gets the creative flow for my original WIP going.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Three to five hours. Sometimes up to ten on the weekends.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Yes – Kaede from Project: Adapt. He is a broken soldier who wants to do good, but constantly has to battle his genetics and need to be with the woman he was assigned to protect.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Winnie Harlow playing Selena in my Project: Adapt series.

I’ve followed Winnie Harlow when she was on TV, watched a few documentaries about her journey and read articles about her life. Throughout it all, she explained how difficult it was to live with vitiligo. I wanted to create a main character w/vitiligo in my space fantasy and display the beauty of it. Winnie inspired me to create Selena – and Selena is surrounded by aliens who don’t know what’s determined as normal or not for humans, and even if they did, they wouldn’t care because they have a wide variety of patterns, coloring, and other attributes. Winnie would make an amazing Selena.

What is your definition of success?

I believe there’s different levels of success, with the lowest being finishing a story, followed by others enjoying it, and then making enough to pay the costs to make said story. Anything beyond that is just a bonus. Would I love to make more than that? Absolutely! But I am not going to get myself down if I don’t.
