#Review – Master: Arrow’s Flight #3 by Casey Hays

Master: Arrow's Flight #3

First, a knife. Then a flaming arrow. Now . . . bullets that explode and destroy their intended targets with a white poison that seeps into the veins on impact.

Instant death.

They call them Eden-killers, and never before have Ian and his people been in such danger. After all, how can someone die when he’s so hard to kill?

But as Kate fights for her life, Ian prepares for a battle of his own. Eden is under siege, and the city’s only hope lies in the hands of four boys who shifted only recently. Four boys who are just as susceptible to Eden-killers as every other man from Eden.

Ian is determined to save his family, but before he can, he must learn the truth about Eden. He must face his own demons. He must come to grips with the fact that what Kate has been searching for her entire life is what he needs, too.

He must learn, for once, to let someone save him.

Master is the long awaited finale in the Arrow’s Flight series.

Goodreads

Full of love, fear, and faith! The cliffhanger we were left with was intense! But we start right where we left. Ian is scrambling to save Kate and will do anything to get her the help she needs. This is where it gets intense. There is a ton of stuff going on with an impending war and the truth coming out about Eden. Ian is going crazy trying to be in two places at once…back home and with Kate. They are welcomed with open arms in Jordan and seek the help they are searching for but what they stumble upon is a higher power. Kate and Ian are both shown a kindness by the people of Jordan and ultimately they want to help save them but they get more than they bargained for. For the most part the story is full of action with the right amount of worry, love, and fear. This is a Christian dystopian novel and sometimes the internal struggle that Ian and Kate both have with the higher power is a bit exhausting but it ties everything up perfectly at the end. Both are faced with many hard choices and challenges but with the help of new found friends, and old ones of course, they are able to move forward. The ending is not at all what I was expecting…in the slightest bit, but I think this pulls the entire series together. I am looking forward to the novellas to come so we can dip into Kate and Ian’s lives a little more. They are truly loveable characters!

Landon has never seen his own reflection. He saw hers instead. He grew up watching this girl in the mirror grow with him. Grew up memorizing every feature, every movement, every horror she endured. He can see into her palace, into the darkness she’s trapped in.
When he was little, he told his parents about her. They thought she was an imaginary friend, and they humored him.
But she didn’t go away.
And when Landon was seventeen, he fell in love with her.
She is a captive of the Queen of the Damned.
Now he’ll risk everything to try to save her—his life, his home, his entire world.

Goodreads

What a unique spin on the Bloody Mary stories. This is a YA novel that can be read as a standalone but is part of a series. Landon is 17 and grew up watching this mesmerizing girl in the mirror…that no one else can see. Elizabeth is said girl in the mirror. She held captive in the Isle of the Damned by Bloody Mary. She can feel Landon and his strength. She has been held captive for so long everything tends to run together. Things start to go awry and the Isle of the Damned and Earth are in trouble. Landon is called on for an important mission and Elizabeth finds her true strength and calling. This is truly a twisted tale that is the emotional rollercoaster you come to expect with teenagers. However, there are twists to this ghost story that you won’t see coming and these will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end. This story touches on depression and how they overcome these obstacles. The characters and world building are great. You won’t go wrong with this story. I was not aware at the beginning that this is a novella for the Skeleton Key series but am looking forward to reading more!

#Review – The Experiment of Professor Polgas by Sarah Brownlee

The Experiment of Professor Polgas

If you were an animal, what would you be? This is the question Blaise, Ash and Dinah unexpectedly stumble upon during the summer holidays when they enter a strange internet café and a mysterious woman asks them to take an online test to discover their inner beast. They are happy to oblige. Online tests are always fun and this one comes with its own special perks.

But what they don’t realise is that not far away, in the heart of London, a mad professor is watching them. Professor Polgas is preparing something; something that will change them forever; something that will have them on the run for their very lives …

This fantasy novel from Sarah Brownlee is a thrill ride of twists and turns, ready to surprise at every corner and sure to delight both children and adults alike.

Goodreads

Great storytelling of how the Morphers came to be! You don’t have to read the other two novels in order to enjoy this one. Although this is aimed to a younger teenage audience it is nice to see how the Morphers came to be. This shows how the trio came upon the experiment with Professor Polgas. This is to find out what your inner beast is. The teens are then given an opportunity to participate in the experiment. When they make this decision to be a part of this they have no idea how this will impact not only their lives but everyone else as well. After the experiment there was no direction as the hall was sabotaged. They then find out that there are others that were part of the experiment that need help too. They go on this coming of age journey. They find themselves and their animal within. There is a balance for all things. The good and the bad. They have to choose where they stand and how they will protect that. This is a fun story that will get the other books a re-read so that I can enjoy the past with the present. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to many more.

OMG! I don’t have words right now! Sooooo….In Girl Divided the author leaves us with a huge cliffhanger and this picks up exactly where the other ended. Perfect! So I pick up the book and am immediately engrossed by the story and BOOM! Chaos! Tatum is confronted by Zach and is more or less forced to go to a family dinner with his “fiance” who is a real… you know what. Tatum is trying to keep Zach at bay and convince herself that Nigel is the safe and best choice. Well, that is until we find out what Nigel has been hiding. Our perfect Nigel is not so perfect. Naturally, Zach is there to help Tatum when one thing leads to another and she and Zach are back together. Officially unofficial. Soon enough everything seems to be going the way it should and another curveball is thrown. Whew! Then things just keep hopping at this point. I have no way to tell you about this story other than to tell you to go read this, and now! If I tell you anything more about it then I will give it all away. Again, Tatum is playing with FIRE! HOT FIRE! Then the end happens and smacks you in the face! Suzie T Roos has absolutely captivated me. You have my attention and yes, I am on pins and needles waiting for part two. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!!!

kellys review

5 stars from this girl! What is a girl to do when she has an overbearing jock ex (absolute horrible person), an Italian mobster boyfriend, and a hot Brit that all want you, one way or another? Tatum is living every girls nightmare of a dream. In this installment we continue Tate’s crazy life. She is being pressured to “speak for” Zach from his family. All Tate wants is to be with Zach but she feels like she will belong to the mob if she does “speak for” Zach. When push comes to shove they are torn apart by unfortunate circumstances. Tate meets Nigel. Oh Nigel *sigh* the hot Brit that gives Tatum a crazy case of the butterflies. She decides to move on and give things a try with Nigel but things continue to get crazy. Kyle is back and is as crazy as ever. Zach is in Italy and desperately trying to get back to Tatum. And Tatum, she is falling for Nigel. Secrets continue to surface and Tate is right back in the middle of trying to figure out what is right for her. Tate can be rather naive but what girl isn’t somewhat naive in high school? You have to fight for what you love and want but Tatum is playing with fire. The author leaves you with a huge cliffhanger so be ready because I finished this and immediately started the next. Oh yeah….I am hooked!

kellys review

I have Spoken For this story! This is a mixture between YA with some scenes that could move it into the NA category. I absolutely love that this is set in 1989. So refreshing! Tatum is a sophomore in high school and has just lost her best friend, her grandmother. She has always embraced being different and being her own person. She ends up with Kyle, the super hot jock. She then thinks that everything is great and how she is so lucky that he wants her. Tatum is extremely naive and keeps trying to give Kyle the benefit of the doubt when he gets extremely possessive and abusive. She is put in a situation that is life altering. This is where things get really emotionally unstable. She feels that she cannot go to anyone. Zach (the other super hot, dark and mysterious guy) knows something is going on but cannot resist being Tatum’s knight in shining armor….or mobster in black. So many conflicting emotions and crazy secrets start surfacing. Gauntlets are thrown. And Tatum always ends up in the middle. The characters in the story are well written, extremely relateable, and easy to fall in love with. In the end Tatum does get what she wants but it may be at an incredible price. I have to say that I picked this book up because of the cover. It’s absolutely gorgeous! The perk is that the story is even better. I could not put this down. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Yes! More Skylar!!!! Skylar’s last adventure has left her stunned. She has been having nightmares and is having a hard time coping. But of course she won’t let anyone in on this. Now, she is sick. As if she wasn’t irritable before, she is now. Who doesn’t love Skylar when she is a little irritated. She finds out that the owner of her favorite Chinese restaurant is missing. She is freaking out because she has no clue where she is going to get her fried rice now. What a fiasco! Sick Skylar, no fried rice, and Aiden is being nice! Whatever is she going to do?!

Oh my stars! Nothing halfway about this series! The Halfway Witchy series is one of a kind!

As if Carlie’s life isn’t already crazy enough there are strange happenings occuring in Halfway. And guess what? Carlie is here to protect, no matter the cost. Exit is a man who has been under an ancient curse who has recently woken up. Carlie and Gran are trying to help Exit, but Exit is not the only newcomer to Halfway. Warlocks and hunters are in the area and it’s unacceptable. We follow Carlie and how she is handling the fact that Wulfric is no longer hers but we also follow Exit and learn of his life and curse. It’s perfect for the book and Exit is a great charater to continue in this story. Crazy situations and emotions can cause people to do some incredible and insane things for the people we care about…and for ourselves. And this fits Carlie to a T.

“I did my best to look friendly and incapable of turning someone into a toad. Flowers were good. Toads, not so much. I probably could if I had time to write the spell, but that wasn’t the point, perception being reality and all that.”

“Gran and I are more than wardens and less than saints.”

“I wanted blood, but we needed justice. The two were diverging paths for me, and the only question was whether or not I could find the strength to hold back when the moment of truth came. As I began to walk deeper into the woods, I had no answers, only hope.”

***Carlie’s and Exit’s journey is a wild ride and is nothing short of exciting. Loving this series and can’t wait for more!***

synopsis

Slice & Dice

“Nothing good ever happens before ten in the morning.” ~Skylar Wolfe

Skylar Wolfe is far from your average PI. Full of snark and purple hair with a quick tongue and no filter from her brain to her mouth. Trouble always seems to find her and she always drags her cousin Levi along for the ride.

But this last bit of trouble she seems to have fallen into is the deadly variety. There’s a corpse at her door (no really, I’m completely serious) with her name all over it. It seems she has pissed off the wrong person. Being Skylar the list could be a little long. She teams up with Norcrest’s new delicious lead detective, Aiden Livingston.

Then leads the hunt to find the person responsible.

Hide & Seek

Skylar is annoyed that Aiden didn’t even bother to call or show up for moviethon.

She decides to head into the station to get on his case and maybe score a new case. What she finds one of Norcrest’s uppercrust in a cranky mood. Her daughter is missing and she’s bitching at everyone. Of course Skylar can’t resist messing with her. Mrs. Vivienne Cox rushes out in a huff after dealing with Skylar. Aiden decides to bring her in on the case.

Missing person cases were Skylar’s favorite. She dives right in. So did Collette Cox run away from her “oppressive” rich party life or was it something more nefarious?

Wiggle & Jiggle

Take off your clothes and pull up a seat, Skylar Wolfe is headed to a nudist community for her next snarky adventure! Join Levi, Aiden, and her newest victim, Bryce as they investigate a death involving Skylar and Levi’s mothers, Lorlei and Dorthoy Wolfe.

It all begins with a phone call from jail. With Lori and Dori locked up and Uncle Vic off on vacation, it’s up to Skylar and Levi to rescue them. With a ride from Aiden and a healthy dose of snarkiness from Skylar, they are off to save the day!

But it looks like that will be no easy task. Murder is a harder charge to post bail for than public nudity. So with the help of Aiden’s friend Bryce the crew has to come together to figure it out before it is too late. All the while the growing heat between Aiden and Skylar starts to deepen to something more than just dysfunctional coworkers. It will all come down to a choice…

and for Skylar’s sake, let’s hope she chooses right…

Snag & Bag

Skylar’s in over her head…

This time it begins with a visit from Aiden’s lawyer friend, Bryce. He has a case for Skylar. It’s a special one. He thinks the guy he’s prosecuting is innocent. He wants Skylar to find the real killer. Of course she agrees.

It will be fun, she thought.

With Levi in tow, she sets off on the investigation. Everything is confusing, nothing seems right. Then the unthinkable happens and they end up in a tight situation. Skylar must use all her skills to get them out of trouble this time. Will her snarky attitude make things worse?

kellys review

There is no way you can read this story and be in a bad mood. If you are looking for a fun and light read, this is absolutely what you need! Absolutely a page turner. I just love how no matter how heavy the situation is with Skylar she keeps a level head and continues with her sarcasm. Love it! Four short stories in one bundle, a must read!

Slice and Dice, 1

HIlarious from the start! Right from jump Skylar and her cousin, Levi are out on a bounty that has gone downhill. You can tell right away that Skylar is very confident in what she does but has the snarky, smart alec attitude to go right with it. She and Levi are private detectives but also handle some bounty work as well. Skylar is a bit unconventional but makes you fall in love with her character as she is incredible easy to relate to. I think she could be my best friend, lol! She is put right in the middle of a murder investigation and gives the detectives a run for their money. So funny!

“What time is it,” I grumbled. “Seven in the morning,” he answered. “What the hell?” I burrowed deeper under the blanket. “Give me three more hours . Nothing good ever happens before ten in the morning.”

“Come on, you know that you wouldn’t survive the zombie apocalypse, let alone a psycho chick.”

**************************************************************************

Hide and Seek, 2

LOL! Funny and sweet! Skylar is back at it. She has an attraction to the new detective and may or may not be mad at him for not calling or texting her. She goes to the police station trying to get another consulation job. Naturally, using her powers of persuasion, she lands a missing persons case that she can’t wait to figure out. Following Skylar and her crazy antics will have you smiling through the whole story. She has an intense personality but speaks sarcasm fluently. All the characters just go together like peanut butter and jelly.

“Missing person’s cases were fun. It was like a giant game of hide and seek.”

**************************************************************************

Wiggle and Jiggle, 3

Wiggle and Jiggle! This next episode that Skylar and Levi go on has their mothers right in the middle of a murder investigation. And who comes along to help? Aiden! Skylar and Levi run right to their mothers’ rescue along with Aiden and a new friend, Bryce. Right from jump Skylar has her no nonsense attitude and is determined to get to the bottom of this case. The story is so funny but has a little love twist now. You can’t help but to continue to smile, laugh, and keep turning pages.

“Skylar, we know you’re awake,” … “Shut up until ten. People that get up before then should be shot on principle.”

“Was it time now? For better or worse, I knew what my decision would be. It was how I lived my life. My motto or creed, if you will.”

**************************************************************************

Snag and Bag, 4

Skylar Style! Nothing she does is small…go big or go home. She is brought in on a murder investigation and ends up being right in the middle, again. She just can’t stay out of trouble. Aiden tries to talk her out of it and she pushes back. She is put in a very bad situation but comes out on top. Bryce and Aiden try to help her and Levi, but Aiden pushes her more and puts a twist on this story.

I pressed the buttons on the controller in a fury. I was going to kill every alien on the damn screen. …. I hit the pause button and turned. It was Aiden’s friend, Bryce. That piqued my curiosity. “Did you come to help me kill aliens?”

“A wackado. You know someone not right in the head. A moron. A dumbshit that doesn’t know when to leave someone alone. A wackado.”

synopsis

The bridge between Kate’s primitive village and Ian’s contemporary world is long and wide. Due to a horrifying event that ends in her self-imposed banishment, Kate finds herself at the mercy of Ian and his friends–the boys of Eden with their unnatural abilities and dark secrets. Kate has no idea if life outside the Village exists, but Ian promises her she will have a future in Eden if she will trust him. With Diana by her side, she takes the first step in faith.

The journey is harsh, full of relentless rainstorms, illness, clandestine troublemakers . . . and no sign of another village. When Diana’s daughter, Tabitha, is struck with a sickness that forces Ian to leave them behind and go for help, Kate’s hopelessness soars. But quiet and confident Justin takes the reins in Ian’s absence, and Kate feels a subtle bend toward him. Only then do the secrets surface, leaving Kate in a miserable state of shock as her faith in Ian falters.

Meanwhile, inside the modernized walls of Eden, Ian must face horrific truths about the source of his superhuman qualities. Truths that will test whether Kate can ever trust him again.

As for Kate, will entrusting her heart to a boy from Eden place her in graver danger than ever before? Will Eden finally be enough? Or will her heart continue to ache for something greater?

Be ready to commit because after you finish Breeder and jump into this journey you are going to NEED to ready Master! If you like YA and Dystopian books, then this series is for you. This author has already given you characters that are incredibly relatable in a primitve world that goes perfect with Breeder. Then this journey starts in The Archer and swallows you whole. Kate’s village is nothing in comparison to the technology that Ian’s city has. The further on their journey the more Kate realizes there is a huge difference. There are many, many lies and truths that unfold and has everyone questioning their reasoning and faith. The story is told from Kate’s and Ian’s point of view. I have to say that I was really getting upset with Ian and his friends but then when you get to see where Ian is coming from it made me question exactly how this was going to play out. There are so many twisting paths and huge decisions that they come across that makes even the strongest character question what’s right and wrong. This is a very emotional book. I was all over the place being happy, sad, hurt, confused….I even wanted to shake the author…a little bit, lol!

“Don’t worry. There it is again . I close my eyes, fighting back my tears. Everything I’ve ever known is slowly being swallowed up in this new life I’ve chosen. The future is more of a mystery than ever before. Dangers are everywhere from vicious storms to villains, and I am not to worry.”

“Some rules deserve to be broken, Ian. But think very carefully about which ones are worth it.”

“Death is everywhere; we can’t escape him. We can run away from the Village— run to the ends of the earth and jump off— and it will be he who waits with open arms to catch us every time. I am weary, so weary of watching him take us one by one. It is our true destiny, and there is no end in sight.”

There is a desperation with these characters that absolutely sucks you in and squeezes until the very end. And the cliffhanger…OH THE CLIFFHANGER! I meant what I said. I need to know what happens next!
