#Review – The Scent of Lilac (Arrow’s Flight Novella #1) by Casey Hays

The Scent of Lilac (Arrow's Flight Novella #1)

Mia has always taken pride in her submission to the Council. Compliant to a fault, she diligently follows the rules without considering whether they are fair or just. But when her best friend Kate kills the Council leader and banishes herself from the Village, Mia suddenly becomes a target for harassment. And for the first time in her life, she finds herself in opposition to the Council.

In her despair, she is drawn to the one person she has fervently resisted: her mate. Soon, her feelings for him shift into something real and powerful—powerful enough to make him human. Powerful enough to make loving him dangerous.

The Village stands on the brink of chaos, and an ever-growing mood of dissension threatens. In the midst of it all, Mia’s heart begins to change. But when a group of young rebels drags her into its fold, her courage is quickly pitted against her fear. Will she join the fight and allow bravery to transform her spirit? Or will she drown in her own cowardice once again?

The Scent of Lilac is the first novella in The Arrow’s Flight Series. Find the complete series at www.whisperingpages.com

Goodreads

A beautiful story of finding yourself and standing up for what you believe in…or what you are not sure you believe in yet. 🙂 The companion novella picks up right where Breeder leaves off. In Breeder, Kate has been chosen as the new leader but ends up leaving with the boys from Eden. Mia decides not to leave with Kate but the longer Kate has been gone, Mia realizes that she is truly alone. She starts to think about some of the things that Kate said as she left and Mia starts to pay attention to her surroundings more. Her village is falling apart and she finds solace with here mate in the pit. She starts to question more of her life and what is truly right and wrong. She changes in this story as she stands up for what she believes in and brings new meaning to her life and the village. She becomes stronger because of the hand she has been dealt. There is an array of bad that happens but those are the things that can make people stronger. The ending of this story takes place after the end of Master. It is a very intimate, heart wrenching, and lovely story that will stay with you long after you finish it.

#NewRelease #Shifter #Review Witch’s Mate (True Mates Book 4) by Alicia Montgomery

***Can be read as a standalone werewolf shifter billionaire paranormal romance book**

The next arc of the True Mates Series begins with San Francisco Alpha Liam Henney and witch Lara Chatraine as they fight their growing attraction.

When a chance encounter with Liam Henney sparks instant lust, Lara Chatraine discovers that the Lycan Alpha may be her True Mate. Lara Chatraine was born with special powers, but it comes with a price: a curse, one that would put Liam in danger if they pursued their attraction. Determined to protect him, she resists his advances and keeps the knowledge of their true connection to herself.

As Alpha to the most powerful clans on the West Coast, Liam Henney has a duty to his family and his people, not only to protect them, but also to produce the next Lycan heir. But, weeks after their passionate encounter, Liam can’t get Lara out of his mind. The normally constrained and reserved Liam has had one thing on his mind – to possess the bewitching beauty and make her his.

When members of the San Francisco clan turn up dead, suspicion turns to the bloodthirsty mages. Liam and Lara must work together to stop Master Mage Stefan, and take him down before he harms more people and expose the existence of Lycans and witches to the world. As Liam breaks down her defenses and stokes her desires, can Lara keep him safe from her curse and defeat the mages before it’s too late?

Witch’s Mate is a full-length (over 70,000 words) werewolf paranormal romance with explicit love scenes, naughty language, and shifter suspense action with guaranteed HEA and no cliffhangers!

Although it works as a standalone romance story, this book takes place in the True Mates series. Though not necessary, I recommend you read the rest of the books to understand the world and the main plot.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

Witch’s Mate is book 4 in the True Mates series and is about the Liam Henney, Alpha of a old and powerful family on the West Coast and Lara Chatraine a witch that is working with the New York Alpha against the mages.
These two are not new to each other, they’ve met before when rescuing her cousin from the mages that kidnapped her. They also had a hot elevator encounter at the Fenrir Corporation. It was so hot that neither can stop thinking of the other and thinking about Liam is something that Lara just can not have.
Lara is not just a witch, she is a blessed witch and blessed witches have great powers, but because being blessed is from the Goddess herself the must be balance and the balance is not being able to love. If she falls in love she then dreams of that loved ones death and then it happens. She fell in love before and the man was killed right in front of her and after the elevator episode she is scared that Liam could be someone that she could love and she doesn’t want to because she doesn’t want another good man to die. Since the elevator she is always on his mind even when he is back home in San Francisco. He knows that mages need to be stopped and if going to New York and helping Grant fight them also allows him to be with her, great.
Lara fights what she feels so hard, but you can only fight love and True Mates for so long. True Mates between a lycan and witch is practically unheard of, but fate has plans of her own and I believe that these 4 True Mate couples are going to be used for something major in the future and have a lycan/witch mated pair is going to be world changing.
So, we have a hot couple, a dangerous foe, a battle, another kidnapping, and several new characters. There also is hurt feeling in the name of love.
This book has it all and be prepared to yell at your reading device when they make you feel all the feels. I’m excited for the next book and cant wait to see who the next couple will be!!

#Review – Master: Arrow’s Flight #3 by Casey Hays

Master: Arrow's Flight #3

First, a knife. Then a flaming arrow. Now . . . bullets that explode and destroy their intended targets with a white poison that seeps into the veins on impact.

Instant death.

They call them Eden-killers, and never before have Ian and his people been in such danger. After all, how can someone die when he’s so hard to kill?

But as Kate fights for her life, Ian prepares for a battle of his own. Eden is under siege, and the city’s only hope lies in the hands of four boys who shifted only recently. Four boys who are just as susceptible to Eden-killers as every other man from Eden.

Ian is determined to save his family, but before he can, he must learn the truth about Eden. He must face his own demons. He must come to grips with the fact that what Kate has been searching for her entire life is what he needs, too.

He must learn, for once, to let someone save him.

Master is the long awaited finale in the Arrow’s Flight series.

Goodreads

Full of love, fear, and faith! The cliffhanger we were left with was intense! But we start right where we left. Ian is scrambling to save Kate and will do anything to get her the help she needs. This is where it gets intense. There is a ton of stuff going on with an impending war and the truth coming out about Eden. Ian is going crazy trying to be in two places at once…back home and with Kate. They are welcomed with open arms in Jordan and seek the help they are searching for but what they stumble upon is a higher power. Kate and Ian are both shown a kindness by the people of Jordan and ultimately they want to help save them but they get more than they bargained for. For the most part the story is full of action with the right amount of worry, love, and fear. This is a Christian dystopian novel and sometimes the internal struggle that Ian and Kate both have with the higher power is a bit exhausting but it ties everything up perfectly at the end. Both are faced with many hard choices and challenges but with the help of new found friends, and old ones of course, they are able to move forward. The ending is not at all what I was expecting…in the slightest bit, but I think this pulls the entire series together. I am looking forward to the novellas to come so we can dip into Kate and Ian’s lives a little more. They are truly loveable characters!

Goodreads

The final book in the Wounded Bird Series! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! This has been a truly captivating series from the beginning and continued strong! Lots of strong emotions. Can anyone be truly happy? Wren is struggling with trying to be happy. Things are going her way but there is still one hole…Maddox. At the end of the second story Maddox decides he is going to be sure that he is happy or die trying. He is finally tired of hurting and watching Wren hurt as well. These two go through a slew of trials trying to find their happy. Will everyone accept or not? Or do they matter? I was really worried about what the twist will be coming into the last book. I was a mess trying to figure it out. Bella holds true to her style and throws you an insane twist that will grab your heart and twist it in the best possible way. Grab your tissues for the extreme lows but you will also smile with a huge heart. Bravo, Bella! This is an awesome series and an incredible ending!!! Mwah!

#NewRelease #Review #Suspense #BDSM For His Eyes Only (Masters and Mercenaries Book 13) by Lexi Blake

FHEO available now

forhiseyesonly_highres

A night he can’t forget

Five years ago, Nick Markovic found himself consumed by his quest for vengeance. The one time he managed to find peace was in the arms of Hayley Dalton. Being with her was like bathing in sunlight, and he ached to feel that again, but he couldn’t. He gave his oath to Hayley’s cousin Desiree, his partner at McKay-Taggart and Knight, that he’d never let his darkness infect Hayley’s innocent world.

A spark she can’t put out

It was years before that Hayley offered everything she had to Nick. After that one amazing night, all she wanted was to be his forever. Unfortunately, Nick’s reaction was to walk away from her and never look back. The warm and caring man she’d discovered was gone, and after Des’s death, he’d only grown colder. But when Hayley finds herself in mortal danger, she’s forced to seek protection from the man who broke her heart.

A flame that threatens to consume them both

Haunted by the women he failed, Nick can’t allow himself to grow close to Hayley again. Running to stay ahead of the powerful forces that endanger their lives, they travel from the lush Garden in London to the glittering lights of Rio. As the threat against her becomes clearer, he realizes that to keep her safe he must confront the demons from his past, even if it costs him a future with the woman he loves.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

I love being back at McKay-Taggart and this time we are at the London branch, so really it’s McKay-Taggart & Knight which means we get to see The Garden!! I love that place, it’s so beautiful!!
Nikolai Markovic: Sexy Russian Bear of a man is in charge of the office while the bosses are away. Nick hasn’t been the same since his friend, lover, and coworker Desiree died on the op where Theo Taggart was captured. He also blames himself that his partner Owen was used by same insane Dr and his mind erased with her mind altering drug.
Hayley Dalton: Desiree’s poor American cousin who had her heart broken by Nick five years ago when he chose Desiree over her. Little did she know he did it so he could go and get vengeance on the people who killed his sister.
Hayley comes to Nick because after Des’s death she was sent two letters one for her and one for him and hers told her if ever she was in trouble go to him, when someone blows up her house that’s what she does.
What follows is a lesson in finding yourself, second chances, forgiveness, and hello it’s McKay-Taggart & Knight, so people trying to kill people, the spy games that we have comes to love from them, and that lovely give and take of a Master and his sub.
Nick learns to forgive himself for things he had no control over and that he does deserve the love that he pushed away 5 years ago and Hayley learns things aren’t always what they seem even yourself.
We also learn more about Ezra Fain, the “company man” that took over for Tennessee Smith. There’s more there then meets the eye and I’m sure that somewhere down the road we will have a book for him.
After reading the end I’m of course on pins and needles for the next book!!! Lexi Blake has done it once again, made me go from happy to sad, to ticked off, to breathless, and back to happy all in one book. She takes you to different locales and makes you feel all the feels so seemlessly every time I read her and this is why I love her.

FHEO teaser 4

Nick went back to staring at the report. “Hayley’s not mine. She was Desiree’s cousin. Now she’s my client.”

Who had been tired the night before and that was why she’d said the things she’d said. This morning she’d seemed much more sensible. After she’d had some sleep and a shower and had straightened herself up, she’d been quiet and seemingly reflective. She was very likely embarrassed by what had been said the night before.

I would get safety from murderers and I would get orgasms. I’m sorry, Nicky, you’re going to tell me how that’s a bad deal for me.

He was going to make sure she understood that his protection wasn’t based on whether or not she slept with him.

Because he wasn’t sleeping with her. He couldn’t hurt her that way again.

“So she was your old lover’s cousin,” Owen mused. “The lover you weren’t exclusive with and who wouldn’t marry you. The pretty girl who looks at you like you’re the sun in the sky is her cousin.”

“She looks at me like she would look at man who can save her.”

“I can save her.” Owen’s eyes lit up, his brows waggling. “Maybe she’ll look at me like that.”

Anger flared through his system. “Don’t you dare. I told you I would take care of her.”

His arms crossed over his big chest and Nick knew he’d been had. “Well, that answers the question with more honesty. You can pretend, but you like the girl. And if you honestly don’t then you need to know that the boys got a good look at her last night. If she’s going to be hanging about, she should be ready for some serious male attention.”

“What are you talking about?”

“The lads talked it over last night and decided there’s no dibs on this one. They all saw her at pretty much the same time. They looked over that dead body and saw her walking in the hall and that was when the fighting started. We all sat down and decided no dibs on her. She’ll get to pick. You should know that Sasha and Jax have decided if she picks either of them, they’re willing to share. I don’t play that way. That’s something I do know about meself. No need for you to be telling me that tale. If there’s going to be some sharing in the bedroom, it’s going to be the traditional kind between a man and a woman and her stacked best friend. That’s what I say.”

“You tell those boys to stay away from her or they will be dealing with me. They will not like to be dealing with me. I will put up with many things from them. They can poke all the corpses they like. They can punch each other. I do not care. They touch Hayley and I will be caring.”

“Wow, now you do sound Russian. A scary Russian. Still, I think if you don’t want the girl, shouldn’t she be allowed to choose? Think about it. It could be fun.”

“Are we talking about the lost boys and their battle for the new chick?” Kayla strode in, her hair in a high ponytail. It bounced as she walked, a testament to her seemingly ever-sunny personality. “I had babysitting duty last night and they kept talking about her even after lights out. Bad boys. I had a plan though. I think we make them compete in a beauty pageant. Hayley gets to judge.”

“I’m judging a beauty pageant?” Hayley followed behind Kay, and both women were followed by Charlotte Taggart and Penelope Knight. It looked like Hayley was rapidly being accepted by the women on his team.

That was not necessarily a good thing. The women on his team could create chaos like no others.

“That sounds like fun,” Charlotte said with a smile. “I think we should require Speedos for the bathing suit competition. No boring board shorts. If Hayley’s picking a lover, she needs to see some booty.”

Hayley stopped, her cheeks going the sweetest color of pink. “Wait. What?”

Penelope put a hand on her arm. “They’re teasing you, dear. Don’t worry about it. The lads will be very polite. Though you should expect some suitors while you’re here. Especially if you come down to the dungeon.”

Now he was the one flushing. “Excuse me?”

Hayley shook her head as she joined him at the table. “It’s nothing. I was just talking to the girls. Did you get the report? Penny said the Dallas office had found something.”

He was all too aware that they weren’t alone. Damon and Ian walked in with Brody Carter and Walter Bennett. The four men settled into chairs as the women joined them. Nick held out a chair for Hayley. He would have to remember that he couldn’t leave her alone for a minute or someone would be whispering in her ear, giving her ideas she shouldn’t have.

Like visiting The Garden on a play night.

It wasn’t happening.

#Newrelease #Review #Contemporary Passion Restored (Gallagher Brothers Book 2) by Carrie Ann Ryan

The Gallagher Brothers series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues with the one brother who thinks he can handle it all and the one woman who could change that.

Owen Gallagher likes everything in its place and is organized to a fault. While his brothers have each dealt with their own personal tragedies and stresses, Owen figures he’s had it pretty easy. That is until his perfectly ordered world is rocked at its foundation and he’s forced to rely on others. Now, he must heal his body and his soul while trying to ignore his delectable and utterly off-limits neighbor.

Liz McKinley is stressed out, exhausted, and not in the mood for a bearded and growly man in her ER. When she patches him up to the best of his ability, she’s prepared to push him firmly from her thoughts. Of course, that would be easier if she and her best friend hadn’t bought the house next to his. Now their paths seem to cross daily, and she is finding it harder and harder to say no to the injured and angry man next door. But she’s been scarred one too many times in her life, and even though this Gallagher looks good enough to eat, she knows that sometimes, sating that craving is the worst thing she can do.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

This is the second book in the spin-off of Montgomery Ink about the Gallagher Brothers.
Owen Gallagher- the organizer hottie of the Gallagher Brothers. He likes list, planners, order, and a fine woman.
Liz McKinley – overworked RN, brand new home owner, and wants nothing to do with men.
A chance meeting at a bar can change so many things.
The two meet with a hello and never think anymore about it. When Owen  ends up in her hospital ER Liz wants nothing more than to help him get treated and move on, because once the hospital gossip knows that she knows him, it doesn’t matter how or that they briefly just met that evening, it’s fodder for the mill.
After Owen’s brother Graham and wife finally let him go back his house after him staying with them, all he wants to do is sleep in his own bed with his own pillow.
When his younger brother sees who his new neighbors are though, resting can wait because its none other than Liz and her best friend.
Fate keeps throwing these two together and I love it. While they both love their list and plans, they each have something that the other needs. He can show her that someone who truly loves you stays. She can show him that list and plans are great, but so is living in the moment.
As scared as it makes her Liz just can’t stay away from him. He makes her feel so much and when she feels too much and runs, he always gives her time to clear her head and then he gets back in there where he belongs.
Owen falls for her quickly and though he is busy with trying to get a big bid for the company, he always puts her first even when her running kills him.
Ryan once again does a great job writing about someone who has had a past trauma and learns to truly live when they feel safe and loved.
Gallagher’s are four brothers that would do anything for each other, we’ve seen that in Graham’s book Love Restored and in Jake’s book Ink Enduring. We see it again in Owen’s book when they help him show Liz what a family really is.
I can not wait to read Murphy’s book next, i think it well be a tear jerker.

Goodreads

Girl On a Swing is absolutely raw. So full of an incredible amount of emotions. I promise that when you read this book you will feel EVERYTHING.

Pain, emptiness, depression, anger, betrayals…… elation, joy, happiness, and love. Wren is going through a very dark time in her life and she decides to just shut it all off. She sees no light at the end of the tunnel. She doesn’t want complications. She decides she will live life and feel on her terms only. But she is such an emotional character and this is not working to her advantage. She meets Rhys and decides to take him for a spin but with a very strict set of rules (booty call!!). She is doing everything in her power to remove Maddox from her mind and heart. Little does she know but Maddox is living in his own personal hell. Both are harboring an intense love for each other but circumstances are keeping them apart. Wren tries a relationship with Rhys. Wren is having fun with Rhys and enjoys being with him. She starts to let go and opens her heart up to him but this may bring about more complications.

The emotions are raw and real. These characters were written with lots of soul and heart. I was engulfed in this story. Bravo, Bella! You have pulled my heart-strings!

BRAND NEW BOOKS from some of your favorite paranormal and contemporary romance authors!

In a bonus Montgomery Ink novella, it seems that falling for your best friend isn’t as easy as fiction says and friends of the Montgomerys might finally find their happy ever after.

Wedding planner Arianna King had everything planned out down to the last detail until her father’s ultimatum changed everything. Being in love with your best friend isn’t always easy as Harper Rosso knows.

Sparks fly between the two of them once they finally take their relationship to the next level. Only the burning temptation than fills them might not be enough in the face of what they left behind and what threatens their future.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

This lovely little Montgomery Ink nugget is in the Valentine’s Day anthology Once Upon a Valentine.
Arianna King is the granddaughter of a woman who started a wedding planning business which turned into a company ran by her father called King’s Weddings.
She has been the woman behind the man for so long and now that her father is stepping down she can run the business her way, her father however does not have the same plan. The business is to be sold to their rivals Honor Designs and she is gone or Ari can marry douche canoe Justin Rosso and become president and owner of the company. She’s always known her father didn’t love her, but she never in a million years expected this, to make her choose between the company or herself!! She does the only things she sees she can do and quits!!!
Harper Rosso is the douche canoe’s brother but he is nothing like him and is Ari’s best friend and neighbor. He also works for Storm and Wes at Montgomery Inc. I have come to the conclusion that is a prerequisite that any man that is any way associated with Montgomery Ink or Montgomery Inc must be H.O.T. They grow them yummy in Denver!!!!
Ari and Harper have been best friends since they were young and Harper has been in love with her for a very long time, he’s just never told her how he feels. He has always done what is best for her, helped her when she needs it, and this time is no different.
He gets her to believe in herself and her dream of small and intimate weddings, believe so strong that she starts her own business Just for Them.
Along the way of starting her business and planning her first weddings, she starts to realize that her feelings for Harper aren’t just a best friends feelings but those of a woman and a man, something that he gladly helps her with.
It’s always great when best friends fall in love. To me it’s a strong bond only made stronger with that love. Harper and Ari seem made for each other and that is the way it should be. I love this series and I can’t wait for more.
If all of the stories in this anthology are this good then it will be awesome!!!

More Than a Memory (Cottage Grove, #1)

Disappearing without a word, Eden Richardt fled from her naïve former life in Oregon to start anew in the Midwest. Being a morning radio show host, she’s got a lot going for her except finding someone to share her life with. In that aspect, no one seemed to compare to the one. Having absolutely no desire to step foot back in her hometown of Cottage Grove, her decision was swayed with an invitation to her high school reunion and solidified after receiving a letter from her first and only love from her past.

Living his life the best way he knows how, Baylor Jenkins spends his time running the family plumbing business, after giving up his dream to be an Architect, and raising his almost teenage daughter solely without the help of his ex-wife. In the back of his mind he knows something was missing from his otherwise enjoyable life. But that something was actually a someone who disappeared after graduation; a former best friend turned lover.

Locking eyes after fifteen long years raises deep emotions and unanswered questions:

What happened to make Eden run?

Could their love for each other still exist?

Or will their past time together be nothing more than a memory?

Goodreads

Everyone wants to be more than someone’s memory. This is a cute story about second chances. Everyone deserves a second chance. Eden, Baylor, and Dean have been the best of friends….since, forever. They are finally graduating from high school and they all have their own little secrets. Eden has always been one of the boys but has secretly been in love with Baylor. She just didn’t know how to tell him. Come to find out that Baylor has secretly been in love with Eden. And just when he makes his move to let Eden know how he feels, Eden vanishes. She just falls off the face of the earth. 15 years go by. Everyone’s life has changed. Eden has gone off to make a career in radio for herself and Baylor has started running the family business and has a daughter. Neither has gone a day without thinking about the other. Thankfully for some meddling by others, Eden decides to attend her 15 year high school reunion. Emotions run high as secrets are revealed. So many misunderstandings but soon enough everyone’s laundry is aired out. This is a super cute story with everyone’s favorite second chances. This is a new author for me but I am hooked! Definitely looking forward to the next story!

synopsis

Jolie Quinn is a woman in charge. Her no-nonsense attitude has made her a rising star in the fashion world and her brand a household name among the Dallas elite. Nothing will stop her from achieving her goals—not even the gorgeous British security contractor who seems just as interested in seeing her personal assets as he is in protecting her professional ones.

After a tragedy left him broken, Heath Powell made a rule of staying unattached. But Jolie challenges him in a way he can’t ignore, and he isn’t used to backing down from a confrontation—especially when the reward for winning could feel so good. As passion blazes between them, the stubborn, confident beauty arouses more than his desire. She touches his heart.

When a mysterious enemy threatens Jolie and her company, Heath is the only person Jolie can trust to help. But working with him to save her business might put her dangerously at risk of falling in love…

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

This is the 12th book in the series and it shows no signs of stopping or even slowing down.
I love that this is a series that you don’t have to have read the books that come before. When past characters do pop in they are only in for a few scenes and it doesn’t take away from the main couple. That being said let’s talk about Jolie and Heath!
Heath Powell is a ex MI5 agent and bodyguard now he is a security contractor that has been hired by Jolie Quinn.
He has a had a horrible tragedy in his past that has made him the all fun no strings kind of guy that he is today.
Jolie Quinn is a no nonsense kind of woman that plans on taking her fashion company and brand all the way to the top. She has no time for a man or love, because she has been taught from a early age that love is false, men leave, and she can get to the top without one.
When a admirer starts leaving gifts for her sister and threats for her things get heated with Heath when he wants to be her bodyguard and not just her security expert at work. She doesn’t want him that close because even though she doesn’t want to be she’s attracted to him. Her headstrong ways and stubbornness makes her attractive to him which is the last thing he wants and is the total opposite of what he normally looks for in his “hit it and quit it” girls.
When you first meet Jolie she is the kind of woman that others see as a cold hearted bitch, but that is the last thing she is. Growing up with siblings that all had different fathers, a mother that was constantly looking for a mans love, a practically raising those siblings I mentioned, she has not lost the will to love only put a shell around her heart and it made her the strong woman she is today.
Heath has a deep need to make sure that this woman is protected at all cost, even if it cost him his life. Being with her has made him realize that he can’t go on like he was and she has stolen his heart.
As the mystery of who her sister’s admire is and who’s after her deepens, the two grow closer and closer and the come together and neither can deny what the other means to them any longer.
There is so much danger, mystery, and heart in this story that Shayla Black proves why she is one of my favorite authors. She can tell a awesome story, add in characters new and old, and never lose the couple at the heart of the story. I will gladly wait patiently for the next book in the series and while I do I’ll will do a reread of some of my favorite couple from the series.
