Alisha was abducted by Sayeed, a rich, powerful tyrant. She was broken down, abused and raped. She was married to David and although they had previously had marital issues, they had resolved them and were very happy. Sayeed married Alisha, without her consent or knowledge. She became his second wife. This story shows how Alisha(now renamed Sara) compartmentailzes her life and functions only to survive. She pushes her memories of David and her Philadelphia life back into the corners of her memory bank.

Alisha is gone for over two years before David is contacted by someone and that has knowledge of Alisha’s new life. Typical of the evil doings of Sayeed, this “friend” has been forced to do his bidding in order to provide his dying wife the medical treatment to give her as much quality of life as is possible. David tried to move on but could not let go of his memories of Alisha.…wishing.…wondering.…… Sayeed keeps David under surveillance and provides Alisha with pictures to continue to torment her.

The situation forces David to do what anyone else would do….(with the availability of money)….he enlists the assistance of a mercenary who has a connection and desire to see Sayeed fall. Pai did a fantastic job making you hate Sayeed and his actions while cheering for the separated couple. Knowing that this type of treatment and environment happens every day to women and children is sad. Her writing reflects how the broken has to survive horrific events.

Although the ending is as you would expect….for David and Alisha…..the mercenary, Eddie, seems to flash back in the end….. is this the beginning of a new story? Hmmmmmmmmmm

From daring escapes by tough women to chivalrous men swooping in to save the day, the creativity switch to Kishan Paul’s brain is always in the ‘on’ position.
