Hi! I’m AJ Renee and I write romance that gives you a break from reality. I have three daughters and we go wherever the military sends my husband. With as many hobbies and activities I enjoy, whether it’s learning how to use my new Cricut, reading, playing video games like Minecraft or Overcooked, playing board games, running, or painting, there’s no telling how I’m spending my time. <\/span><\/p>\n

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The first book in a series is the hardest hands down. It sets up the future characters and town and there is so much detail you want to pump into it without subjecting the reader to information overload.<\/span><\/p>\n

What comes first? The plot or characters <\/strong><\/p>\n

For me, I’d say a little bit of both. I can think of two characters but unless I have a general plot they are strangers to me. I want to know why they matter. What makes me want to drop everything to learn more about them.<\/span><\/p>\n

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

How do you work out the outline without making the writing process boring?
\nWhat do you wish you’d have done differently?
\nDo you know what characters\/stories you’ll write after you finish the Sunken Shadows and Forever Bluegrass series?<\/span><\/p>\n

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The blurb. I loathe writing it. There is so much pressure to write so few words that will draw in a reader and not give away too many details in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Meeting readers at signings. Getting to bond over books and meeting someone in person that you’ve been interacting with online is wonderful.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your definition of success?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m still trying to answer this question myself. One thing that makes me feel like a novel has been a success is when readers go out of their way to tell me they loved it. At the end of the day, I want my words to bring a reader happiness and that makes the story a success.<\/span><\/p>\n
