challenged coverAbout CHALLENGED

Lust, love, and second chances.

Growing up in the fast-paced and rough life of a motorcycle club wasn’t easy. Cleaning up the mess his father had made of Vipers Creed meant sacrifice. Cade ‘Spook’ Baker had given up everything to bring the club life back to what it was supposed to be: a family.

The choices he made were not what he wanted, but they were necessary for the club as a whole.
Second chances rarely came to Spook, so when his Trixie walked boldly into his clubhouse, the decision was made. Trixie would once again be his, this time for good.

Trix Lamasters was raised by a master—a master con. All grown up, she made her life solid by making it about her club, Sirens. But one bad business decision brought her to her knees, forcing her to call on the one person she had sworn she would never trust again.

Pasts have a way of not staying there. Things that were buried deep have a way of finding themselves in the light of a new day. Could something that had once crashed and burned for Spook and Trixie find a way out of the wreckage? With the odds against them, can they find a way to overcome the challenges, or will it all blow up in their faces?

About CONQUERING

Wes ‘Stiff’ Collins lived life on the wild side. He worked from the moment he knew what the word meant, always making the best of every situation. There was nothing about his past he would change.

Without a real family except his brother Xander, Stiff joined the Vipers Creed Motorcycle Club, and they taught him what it was to have people he could depend on. When his past crashed into his present, he vowed to protect the club that had always been his steady, even if it meant turning his back on the woman who had given him life.

Chelsea Miller’s life was simple: work, take care of her family, and save for the future. Everything was about having a goal and a plan. However, when her sister ended up battered and bruised on a diner floor, everything she thought was in her past suddenly threatened her future. In a moment, she had a new goal, everything else be damned. She would protect her family … at all costs.

Stiff and Chelsea’s worlds collide in an explosion of determination, strength, and lust. Will they give in to temptation, or will conquering each other be too steep a price? Two people not afraid to put in the work will either overcome everything in their paths or finally crumble under life’s troubles they can’t escape, all in the name of family.

Time seemed to stand still at this time of night, the time just before closing but not quite midnight. The time when your feet ached so badly they screamed at you to sit down, yet you knew, if you did, you wouldn’t get back up to finish out the night.

Huffing out a breath, I watched the clock. Tick, tock. Each second passed as I wished and hoped for customers to come in to keep me busy before I closed out the night. Only an hour to go before I had to clean up and go to bed alone.

As if fate heard my wish for once in my life, the bell above the door chimed, and the air in Charlie’s Diner suddenly thickened with their presence, compressing, making the space feel smaller. It happened every damn time they came.

I thought at one time it was just the age of this place, the low ceilings or something, that made it small. Nope. It was them: the five grown, hulking, badass men who each stood tall, proud, and screamed trouble. The Viper’s Creed Motorcycle Club, namely Spook, Boner, Stiff, and Dawg.

Each man was over six-feet tall, and each exuded a commanding presence.

Small town chatter was always buzzing with different stories of the men, Charlie included. It seemed people were divided over the club. Some spoke their praises of helping little old lady Pearson with her groceries in the car, while others swore they were criminals.

Me, well, I was nothing more than a waitress at a diner, trying to keep my head above water. I didn’t really care what the men did or didn’t do. When they came in, which I had to admit was pretty regularly, they were always excellent tippers. At the end of the day, that was all I was concerned with.

Rolling my shoulders back and stiffening my spine, I found the confidence I needed to handle the sheer amount of testosterone in the air from the men because they were all sexy. Each and every one of them: Spook with his beard and jet black hair; Boner with his tousled, sexy hair that looked like he had just rolled out of bed; Stiff with his bald head, tall bulked frame, and sexy as hell demeanor, making my girlie parts tingle; and Dawg who was sexy with his long dark brown hair that curled around his ears.

“Hey, guys, have a seat anywhere you like. I’m on my own tonight, so anywhere you go, you’re stuck with me,” I greeted them as I made my way to the end of the counter and rounded it.

“You say alone?” Dawg asked.

I raised an eyebrow at him, wondering why he had used such a sharp tone. I left it alone, though, sighing as I kept my pace while they settled into their chairs.

Stiff caught my eye as he flipped his chair around backward then promptly straddled it. He was always a toss up. One never knew what Stiff would do except flirt. He was notorious for it.

“Rickie was working the grill and had a family emergency about twenty minutes ago. Night shift,” I explained. “It’s usually me and the cook after ten-thirty on the weekdays when it ain’t busy.”

“Charlie know about this?” Boner asked.

“Nah, that’s between them when Charlie sees the time clock,” I said. The truth was that Charlie probably wouldn’t know, but I wasn’t a rat.

Pulling my scratch pad out of my apron, I clicked my pen, ready to take the guys’ orders.

Stiff watched me carefully, a little too carefully. So much so that I felt a blush crawl up my neck and heat cover my face, no doubt reddening my pale skin.

“We’ll be here till you close up.” The deep baritone of his voice shot straight to my belly. “I’ll tail you home.”

“That’s not necessary. It’s happened before. I’m all right, Stiff.”

Boner looked at Stiff then me. Before he could speak, Stiff met my eyes.

“Not happenin’ again, Chelsea. You wind up alone, you call the clubhouse. No need for you to be here by yourself.”

The guys all looked at Stiff as if he had grown two heads.

He was a womanizer; I had heard all the stories. Why did he give a shit about me being alone? Then again, the guys, all of them, had always been friendly to me when they came in. This was no different, and it was sweet in a badass sort of way.

The door chimed, and in walked two college-age girls, giggling like they were at some pop star concert.

“Be right with y’all. Sit wherever,” I greeted then looked back at Viper’s Creed. “What’ll it be? Gotta get started.” I gave them a small smile while I quickly scribbled their orders as the girls approached. They were overly done up in enough makeup to make a drag queen jealous.

“Pick a seat,” I reminded them as if I hadn’t said it two seconds ago. “Let me drop the fries, and I’ll be back to take your orders.”

“We’re here for them.” The darker-haired girl pointed at Stiff and Boner, biting her lip. I was sure it was meant to be sexy, but it failed.

I didn’t have time for this.

“Then I’ll get to work on gettin’ ’em fed while y’all get to work on gettin’ their dicks wet.” I rolled my eyes.

“Spunk, Chelsea. You got spunk.” Dawg laughed.

I didn’t look back. Instead, I headed behind the wall to the kitchen area where I mocked the girls continually in my mind while I dropped fries in the hot oil.

When the fryer quieted, I had to stifle my gasp as I overheard the brazen women.

“Like, what made y’all wanna be part of a club?” one of them asked in that valley-girl-wanting-to-be-seductive-and-failing tone.

The men laughed loudly, and then Dawg was the first to answer.

“We ain’t a club. We’re fuckin’ family.”

“You kn-know, TV makes it so h-hot,” the other girl began. “Wh-what’s the appeal?”

There was the sound of someone smacking the table hard, and I jolted.

“Pussy. All the pussy we can handle,” Stiff taunted, and I couldn’t help the way my heart thudded in my chest painfully. “Thing is, bitches like you come in here, thinking you can be a part of something like this. You don’t know shit, and you ain’t shit. Your only place is sucking my cock when I feel like having it sucked. Got plenty of mouses for that, so move the fuck along. We got dinner to eat.”

I couldn’t see the table from where I was flipping burgers for their patty melts, but I heard Spook after I made out the squeal of one of the ladies.

“Don’t ever fucking touch my leather. I’m Vipers’. I’m not yours, and you’re not mine. Like my brother said, move the fuck along.”

Spook could be intimidating on a regular day, but the ice in his voice now had me on edge to even take him his plate. Those two dimwits didn’t seem to get it, though.

“We could be your dessert,” one of the women said.

If I didn’t have a spatula in my hand with hot grease on it, I would have smacked my head.

The sound of a chair scraping back against the floor assaulted my ears before Boner said, “We’re not interested. Even on your knees, on my cock, or licking the motherfuckin’ floor, the two of you don’t make the cut. Move on.”

Hell, I fully expected them to at least take the girls out to the parking lot and fuck them. At least, that would be par for the course according to the talk of the town.

On a humph, I heard the girls exit.

I shook off the words and worked on my task of plating the men’s food.

Dawg laughed. “Can you believe that shit?”

“We live by a code and die by a code. Bitches don’t know shit unless we tell them. Pussy doesn’t get you by,” Boner stated as I dumped the last of the fries onto their plates.

“If we wanna see pussy, I’m sure we can head over to Sirens. Heard it’s got a new woman in charge.” The tone in Stiff’s voice made me wonder if they really did frequent the strip club in town.

“Order up!” I yelled out of habit before I took the plates burning into my skin out to the sexy patrons.

I really had to get my head out of my ass where Stiff and all of Vipers Creed was concerned. It wasn’t my business and never would be.

I received this book for the author for an honest review.

*Laughing super hard*  OMG I freaking love this series~!!  The banter and comedy is just too much.  Its real life bantering that I can see my husband having or banter with my bestie Melinda too.

I fell in love with Lindsey reading Whitney’s novel and couldn’t wait to read her book.  She is a total character and pretty much tells it like it is whether you want to hear it or not.  She gets the chance from her magazine to try and meet a famous author.  The magazine wants her to try and get an interview from a man notorious for NOT doing interviews.  If she can pull this off she will get a much deserved promotion.

Lindsey gets her friends keys to his Florida home and is shocked when the friend’s brother is also there.  He wasn’t supposed to be in town but they make an uneasy agreement to share the space.  When the agreement is made, Jay calls his friend and we learn secret number 1 of a few to come.

The couple are hilarious.  The banter made me giggle a lot.  The letters the couple begin to write each other are what makes the book.  However when in person, The hot and cold of Jayson to Lindsey made me wanna kick him in the butt but then we get to figuring out MORE secrets he has annnnd we can kinda see why.

I loved this story and can’t wait for more from these characters because they crack me up.

The Thief Steals Her Earl

synopsis

Following the passing of his father and an unforgivable act by a family member ending in near ruin for his family, Simon Montgomery, the new Earl of Cartwright, is forced to return home without finishing his education. However, that doesn’t stop Cart from absorbing every morsel of knowledge he can.

Unfortunately, doing so and applying his every moment to restoring his family’s lost heirlooms while seeing to his sister’s upbringing and attempting to wrangle his mother’s frivolous spending habits has made him somewhat of a recluse, a man unsure of how to live life unless it’s focused around academia, order, and routine. But what happens when Cart is faced with a woman as intelligent as he but far more cunning?

Miss Judith Pengarden has lived her entire life under her eldest sister’s firm yet loving guidance. When she discovers her family is in jeopardy of losing their home, Jude decides to use her skills to help them pay off their unsettled debts. However, when Jude attempts to steal from the wrong house, she finds herself alone, locked in a dank room at the night watchman’s residence, and she vows to stop thinking so spontaneously and risking her family’s name to scandal. Unfortunately, there are some loose ends that need to be tied up before she can. Luckily for her, however, she may have just met the man who can help her family and also steal a piece of her heart.

When Jude meets Lord Cartwright at a London garden party, he seems the perfect man to solve all her problems—a recluse unfamiliar with London Society and studied in antiquities. A lord like none she has met, Jude soon realizes that Cart is more valuable to her than any painting, sculpture, or vase. But when she’s caught in possession of Cart’s long-lost family heirloom, completely unaware of what it really means, can she convince him that things are far from what they seem? That despite the deceit and subterfuge, her heart is in the right place. With her family…and with him.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.  I really toiled with my rating in this book.  I mean is it a 4.5 or 5.  I was just back and forth. Then I went back and reread a scene…Christina will know…the Door scene…..yep it still gutted me so 5 stars it is.

AHHH!!   OMG If you would have told me before reading this book I would be dumping Harold, from The Lady Forsaken Series, I would have said you are cray cray…GASP…however Harold I think we may need to take a little break so I can see how I am feeling about Lord Cartwright/Cart.  No hard feelings right???

Lord Cartwright/Simon/Cart is so unlike any hero that Christina has written before.  He is so nerdy and awkward but I fell in love with him.    He is the person at a gathering with their nose stuck in a book.  He is unsure of himself socially and really could care less about breaking a Ton rule.  He is just after getting his family Earldom back in the right financial shape it should be after being stolen from by his uncle.

Judith/Jude wants to help her sister Marce but knows Marce will not have any of that.  Her and her twin steal a vase to hopefully sell for money.  This money she will give to her sister to call off the debtors who keep sending final collection notices.

When Jude and Cart meet, they are both thrown together and thought that they might just “tolerate” the others company but they actually get along.  Then something happens to Cart and he gets upset at himself for making a fool out of himself. When any other Ton woman would have run away, Jude stays to help him.

The two are so similar and they both love art.  Granted he loves to find it and she loves to steal it…Snickers…..but I just loved how put out she makes him.  She makes him feel alive and actually interested in life again.  I love how he uses scientific data to tell us the readers how he feels about Jude.  I love how she is so confused because she is guilted by why she is friending him yet also she is so consumed with spending as much time with him as she can

The side characters are amazing.  Sam I wanna throat punch.  Payton just needs a hug.  Garret *purr* needs to find the right woman.  THEO!!  OMG she steals the book!!  LOVE HER!!  But I am telling you …Christina is going to make us wait until the very last to know about Marce!  I FREAKING need to know about her!!  I am consumed with the need to know!!!  AHHHHH,………….

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I loved Gillian’s zombie series so when I saw she has a new series starting, I jumped.  This book is a totally different concept for me and it also intrigued me.  I mean working for Karma, Inc. You are the person who will be dishing out the bad karma we all want people to get served….awesome right???

Cassie wakes up and is given a choice…Limbo or working in the Afterlife.  Well who wants Limbo right?  She takes the Afterlife job and the sub company, Karma Inc.  She is a bit distressed because she can’t remember anything about her life.  Now most people can remember their life but not their death.  Plus Cassie finds out she was being “processed” a lot longer than most people ……hrmmm…..

The story is told in mainly present tense but we do see flashbacks of Cassie getting processed and the parts of her life start to come back to her while she is working her first Karma case.  We can see her figuring stuff out while also secretly investigating her life and death.

Now I will say the beginning of the story was a bit slow BUT that is because we are setting up the world Cassie will be a part of.  We had to get to know the ins and outs of the Afterlife. SO if you give it a few chapters to get things going the rest of the book flies.  The end of the book left me saying YES because I wanted to know what her investigator was going to uncover for her in the next book.

about the author

Gillian Zane is the author of the NOLA Zombie series. Zane is the pen name of a prominent blogger in the publishing industry, which will remain a mystery unless you Google it. Since she can remember her goal has been to become Master of the Universe and has decided to focus first on the literary world. Things are progressing nicely.

Zane has been a freelance writer for the last ten years and has published a few non-fiction works, none of which was very exciting. Zombies are much more exciting and a way for her to combine her two current obsessions, hot boys with guns and Doomsday Prepping. When she isn’t stockpiling MREs (Meal’s Ready to Eat) or researching how to build a cistern on a budget, she’s taking care of her little family and exploring the city that she loves, New Orleans.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Clapping my hands!!  I am loving these characters and different sports themes series.  I haven’t read many, if any, sports theme characters so this book was awesome for me.  I feel like I read more Shifter paranormal or MC books.  SO this was a great and nice departure for me to read.

Ainsley is a girl without any help in life.  You wanna talk about given a crappy life but still made something out of herself and still striving for more and better!!!  She is taking on 2 jobs, raising her teen age sister and trying to finish nursing school.  Meeting a boy or even dating are far off her list of things to do.  When she meets a cocky guy at one her many jobs, she is overly annoyed with is sexual come-ons and rich boy persona.

Cade has lived the life of privilege.  He has money and since he is a star athlete he gets a lot of attention for being him.  He can have any girl and they sure don’t ever turn him down…I mean he is CADE!!!  When he gets into trouble and is getting talked to by his parents, he is stunned the waitress isn’t all over him.  Doesn’t she know he is number 23.  I gotta admit.  I thought Cade was a mega DB and was high fiving Ainsley for rebuffing him.

As the story continues, Cade runs into Ainsley again.  This time he SEES her for what she is…different and he is really intrigued in what makes him want to get to know her.  The couple being navigating around dating while dealing with skeletons they both have in their closet.  Cade’s secret send his girl off the deep end.  I was kinda annoyed with her for her over reaction and then she over reacts again in the end of the book.  Yes I get what she has been thought and was glad Mica was there to kick her butt into gear.  Cade most definitely does redeem himself from my original  beginning thoughts about hm.  Sierra definitely let us, the reader, see his growth in the book.

I am super excited to read Mica and Lance.  That books is going to be a good one I can already tell!!!

angies review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I love a good 2nd chance romance.  I mean nothing is better than when the one that got away comes back right???

This book was told in a really interesting perspective.  It starts in the present but immediately it flashes us back to the past when Chloe ad Nash where younger.  Through the first few chapters we see their friendship grow and blossom into love.  Then the book cuts backs the present and we are with our couple now….apart…and unhappy!!

Chloe has had a rough life from the death of her father, literal abandonment of her mother after her father’s death and the treatment of her step-father.  The only light in her life is Nash and his family.  Chloe’s character seems a little too naïve for me.  There were parts of the story that were a bit of a stretch for me as a reader….her lack of sexual knowledge during her teens years but mainly her adult internal radar seems off.  She was too trusting for someone who has had lot of emotional and physical abuse even when her red internal flags are going off.

Nash has loved Chloe his entire life.  She is the one and he never understood what happened.  He is really angry, hurtful and bitter when he sees her but won’t stop perusing her.  I liked Nash and seems a bit more open to his character.  When he finds out Chloe is being hurt he does everything he can to help her.  Even after being apart for many years, when Chloe is attacked his first thoughts of her are and needs.

The story was good and I would read another novel from the author if presented and I have the time..LOL.  A bloggers work is never done.

about the author

I was born in Overland Park, KS, in the heart of Tornado Alley, and my life has been a bit twisted since. Actually, it’s not all that twisted, but I’ve always wanted to use that line. I grew up in St. Louis, MO, went to school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and moved to Bloomington, IL, fresh out of college, after my husband got a job at State Farm’s corporate headquarters. I’ve worked as a high school/junior college teacher, personnel recruiter, office manager of a jewelry store, and, for the past ten years, as a lunch lady. I like to karaoke and attend rock concerts. I am actively involved at church and spend too much time on Facebook. I am the mother of a eighteen-year-old, and sixteen-year-old triplets, and have been married to my husband, Don, for over twenty-four years.
I have been a writer all my life. My first book, which was co-written with Mary Ellen Murphey in second grade, was titled The Black Cat, and was written on blue hotel stationary, hole-punched, and bound by white yarn. I believe it is currently out of circulation.
When I turned forty, I had an epiphany of sorts. I realized those bigwig publishing houses in New York were now probably run by people younger than me, so I shouldn’t be intimidated by them. At about the same time I was watching one of those award shows, and Jaclyn Smith got up to give a post-humorous award to Aaron Spelling. She credited him for encouraging her to go into acting, saying something brilliant like, “Reach for your dreams.” Nothing new. Almost even seems a little Jiminy Cricketish. But, for some reason, it struck me that night. When Aaron Spelling was thirteen, he was probably just like any other acned thirteen-year-old. But he worked to achieve his dreams, and became a household name. So, I began to write. Once I finished my first book, I wasn’t able to stop. I would rather write than do just about anything else. After all, you get to make people (characters) do what you want and design your own happy endings. What power! What a privilege.

Embracing My Submission (The Doms of Genesis, #1)

synopsis

Haunted for years by dreams of a savage, amber eyed Dominant with lips so enticing my soul ached in frustration and lust. None of the Dominants at Genesis, my local BDSM club ever stirred me in such blistering ways. While I tried to fill my submissive desires vicariously through interactions at the club, I attempted to convince myself it was enough. But it wasn’t. My dream Dom made certain I hungered for more.

Forced beyond what I could bear, my passion and frustration exploded. I threw in the towel, determined to stop chasing a dream and gave up completely on finding submissive surrender. But fate intervened when two gunshots split the night. Forced to confront my desires and insecurities, I was shocked to realize that my dreams may have held a deeper meaning. Were they compelling me to finally embrace my submission?

I bought this book because I have met this awesome lady at signings and read several other books of her but not this series.

I am a fan of the genre of BDSM and so the “on- click” option was an easy one to make.  I grabbed it and sat down one morning for a quick and enjoyable read.  The story is about Emerald/Julianna who has had a fake Dom in her life before.  She joins the club and has been a submissive for over 4 years.  She is under the protection of Drake/Moses to help guide and care for her until she is claimed by the “one”.  She is a mess!!!  She wants love and each day gets more and more broken over never being chosen.  She knows she is a strong willed brat but the fact no one shows interest makes her begin to self-doubt in her true calling.

Mika is the quiet owner of the club.  He lost his one and only slave Vanessa years ago.  He is open the club to help others find the one but knows he had his and is never to love again.  When something happens to Emerald, Mika goes crazy!!  Little does the bratty sub know but Mika has been watching and wanting her for years!!  Say WHAT!!

The story is about all they have to go through to be together.  They have to deal with his denial, her attack, her feelings of inadequacy and his strong desire to Master her.  My favorite part of the book hands down was her having a tantrum at his office door in the club…omg I laughed sooo darn hard….Great and Powerful OZ!!!  LOL!!!  I also really liked the element of who was driving the two together in the story.  It is hard to let go of the past when you see a future you want but are scared nd guilty to want.

Creed, former Marine, is tattooed and tough. He’s scarred inside and out. Loss is no stranger to him, and he avoids getting close to anyone at all costs.

When Nina tries to steal his motorcycle they have a vicious fight, but necessity and attraction force them into an uneasy alliance. They travel together through the dangerous landscape, where trouble lurks around every corner and they need each other to survive.

But the biggest danger just might be falling in love.

Equally as exciting as it is sexy, Afterglow contains graphic sex and some violence, so please read at your own risk. 18+ recommended.

This is a standalone.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

OMG I am in love with this book and I totally would love to read more from this cast of characters.  I mean Logan needs some love too right????

SO this book starts out with Nina looking to make it to her grandmother’s house to ride out this killer virus.  She meets our hottie Creed when she is trying to steal from him..ooopsie Nina.  Creed is stunned stupid to find out that the punk that is trying to steal his motorcycle is a kick a$$ female.  The two run in to some not nice guys and Creed decides he needs to leave so he will see Nina safely to her grandma’s house and then take off for parts unknown.   I loved Nina’s sass and the fact she isn’t a helpless female character.  She has spunk and fire and she WAS going to see her family again.  I loved that Creed also loved her tenacity and welcomed her fire during their travels.

Along the way, the couple banter and it fuels the chemistry that is just burning underneath the story.  OMG I was like “SOMEONE MAKE A MOVE ALREADY!!”  It was super hawt.  When the two get to “getting to know each other a bit better” we can see them both forming an attachment but both don’t want to get attached because attachment means heartache.

Along the way, Nina and Creed meet some good people but mainly run in to the evil that is taking full advantage of this ruined society.  They two end up helping another person who also has lost it all due to the virus and that character tugged at my heart just like they did Creed and Nina.

The end of the book had me a mess.  I was reading as fast as I could because I needed to know if they would make it safely to Nina’s grandma’s house PLUS what will become of Creed and Nina.

Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book I was torn going back and forth for a while but once I realized who I was rooting for my heart was all in.  This is Ally’s story she is Angels BFF and a ball of fire.

Ally has a one night stand no names no strings attached but when she walks away she is left with more than she arrived with. After trying to find the unknown guy she moves on and starts to live her life. When she finds a great guy her mystery guy comes back and now she has to decide who she is going to choose. Will she stay with her new guy or go back to her mystery man?

Like I said I was back and forth with this one I wanted her to give Carson a change but I loved Joey. The thing Joey does made me love him and my heart broke from him. OH my gosh I forgot how much I loved Wes (SHHH don’t tell my BFF cause Wes is hers or that’s what she will tell you anyway). His talk was amazing oh and the pay back that Angel gets to pay on Wes had me rolling that was a great phone scene just saying. This story was such an emotional ride I was laughing at times, had some tears, and my heart was breaking at other times.  I had no idea what Ally was going to do or who she was going to choose and my heart was so happy for one of them and broke for the other. The Epilogue was epic and things were as they should be at the end in my opinion.  Way to keep me hanging on and turning the pages Heather D’Agostino.
