Death Threats: A Michele Shepard Story (The True Death Series Book 6) by [R.K. Gleason]

Arriving back from their rescue mission in Elysara, many things have changed in Purgatory and between Shepard and his friends. As things go from bad to worse, many of the souls return to their ancient and horrifying ways to survive. A new player has positioned himself as the cruel, would-be protector of Burnington. His demands are simple, complete subjugation and obedience at all costs. Shepard reacts in his usual fashion, with a cocktail in one hand, a Coffin Nail in the other and a ‘fuck you’ on his lips.

But his cavalier approach to the ruthless leader has unintended consequences, forcing our band of angels and mortal souls alike to fight for their lives, defending themselves on all sides and fleeing from an unavoidable enemy. Battling their way home and encountering unspeakable dangers along the way, our friends are forced to reconsider old alliances as they face new and more powerful enemies.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Each of the books in this series has been completely out of the box. In order to truly appreciate them you have to have some sort of an inappropriate sense of humor. I am proud to say that I have one of those! Each book, and this one is no exception, has had some sort of twisted, goriness with inappropriate humor that gets me in stitches every time. Death Threats comes right out of the gate giving you a WTF moment…and it is great! The continuous banter between Horace and Shepard is never ending but now we truly have a cast of great characters that all clash, can’t stand each other, but will fight to the end for each other. You know, it is what it is, and all that. I have to say that I am happy to see that Uriel and Bob have stuck around to get into shenanigans with the rest of the guys. And our new bad guy, ugh! He is truly wicked. Part of what I love about Shepard’s character is that he is always looking out for numero uno, but deep down he wants to do what’s right. He is going to grumble and complain about it the whole time. He is going to get under everyone’s skin while doing it. But it is totally worth it to see everyone else’s reactions. My love for this series increases with each book. Death Threats is one hell of a ride and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next!

OH HELL!!! Here comes BOB!!! I can’t tell you which of this series is my favorite because they are all soooooo different but with the same flare for gore, sarcasm, wittiness, and a killer plot! Again, I feel a little more evil with each book I read from RK. Maybe I’m going to hell because I can not get enough of the twisted thoughts, bent sarcasm and the rollercoaster of gore. But it’s totally worth it! These are my people!

“Sowing the seeds of discontent, creating doubt, disarray and general mayhem.”

This sums up this story PERFECTLY!!!!

Ok enough with this. The story starts right where 4 leaves off. Shep returns but with quite a vengeance as he actually died in purgatory! WTH?! RIGHT?! But the kicker is that he found Andrea. He F’n found her! And now it is his mission to get her back. But when he found Andrea he met Bob. And get ready for Bob! He is one of my favorite characters in the story. Well, there is Rusty (the cat) too. And he is freaking hilarious!!!! If cats could talk, LOL! Shep is ready to form the escape plan for Andrea. He gets everyone on board and gets some major help from Bob. But Bob, he is super simple but not. I hope that makes sense because it makes perfect sense to me. The thing with Bob is that sometimes he acts a little too quick and doesn’t give or get the best direction. Because of this the crazy group travels to some outlandish new planes of existence. The story stays gory with all the sarcasm that we love but we do get to see some of the truer sides of Shep….and Andrea. “Every choice I’ve ever made was for me and me alone, to save my (behind) or get what I wanted. I’m a survivor, not a (f’n) hero.” Shep says this and I think this is true for a lot of people. And as with the rest of the True Death series, nothing is as it seems. When we finally get to Andrea is everything all rainbows and unicorns? You must read this to find out!!!!!!!

The thing about RK’s characters are that they are a lot like me in some way, shape or form. I CAN RELATE! I feel like I know them and I can’t wait to hate them, love them, and threaten some of their lives! I am looking forward to continuing this series. And if you haven’t read the beginning of the series yet….WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!!!!!

Beacons in the End (The End Saga #3)

Book Three in the Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian Epic The End Saga.

I’m alive.
Gideon’s out there somewhere with Missy, looking for me. The monsters are evolving, but we are, too. We’ve come so far, survived the miraculous, defeated the evils that have tried to keep us from each other, and we’ll do it again.
We’re alive, and that’s a good start.
Strange, how finding each other in a dead world full of rabid predators with no cell service is the easy part. The hard part is what comes after. What will happen now that Gideon knows my truths? What will happen when he tells me his? Will we get our second chance? Will we have our happily ever after?
Things won’t be perfect when we reunite, we’ll have obstacles to overcome. But I believe in Gideon, I believe in us. We’ve found each other in this world twice before, and we will again. I just hope we can figure out what to do . . . next. To make things right again.

* * *

I won the first round, but this game isn’t over yet—it’s only just begun. There’s a stopwatch ticking somewhere, and the cool barrel of a nine against my temple says it’s go-time, there’s no backing down now.
It’s too quiet—as if somebody set the world on “peaceful” mode for a while. But I know better than to get too comfortable. There’s always been more to Vine’s games than meets the eye.
Time to level-up.
L1: Keep Missy safe
L2: Find Grace
L3: Protect the people I love
L4: Get that plane and get the f*ck out of Dodge
L5: Heal mankind
All in a day’s work on the Bright Side, right?

This is the third book in The End Saga. This series will appeal to those who don’t mind some diverse adult content in their reading. Due to certain triggers, this series may not be suitable for everyone, and is advised for ages 18 and up.

“To know who you are now, you have to remember how you became.” THIS!!! This is the perfect line for this book! This is the perfect line for life! This series is EPIC! The author writes very passionately, heartfelt and super fierce. This isn’t a zombie book. This is so much more! Every emotion whether it is something funny, scary, amorous….every single emotion is felt down to your core. Oh the feels!!!! Be prepared because it is beautiful and gritty and pure raw! Intense just does not do this book…or the series….justice.

Both of our groups are now on the run. Both groups have taken on others to care for…a lot of children! Now they are racing for survival. Grace and Logan are with one group and Gideon is with the other group. Grace and Gideon are so in sync that they just know exactly how to send the beacon to each other. Here is your spoiler….yes, the groups find each other. But they don’t find each other without some crazy scary situations ahead of them. Grace and Gideon were made for each other but they both have indiscretions that they don’t think the other will forgive them for. Nothing is perfect but this is The End afterall. Does everything have to be the same as before. The monsters are evolving, why can’t they? “How do you choose the correct answers when there aren’t any?” The whole crew is faced with many obstacles with which most involve themselves. But every single character is complex, strong and beautifully flawed. All of the characters are finding themselves again and it is absolutely breathtaking watching it unfold. Oh and did I mention all the hawtness?!?! Cuz guess what?! It’s super sexy in all the right places!!! So buckle up biotches cuz it’s time for another wild ride!!!

Bravo CL Zelle!!!! You rocked this! P.S. This is at the top of my favorite series ever!!!!

Christina L. Rozelle is the author of the bestselling YA Dystopian Scifi series, The Treemakers Trilogy, which includes her groundbreaking debut, “The Treemakers,” and its sequels, “The Soultakers,” and “The Seeker’s Keys.” Hailed for its strong, believable, and relatable characters, original and complex plotting, and phenomenal world-building, The Treemakers Trilogy appeals to lovers of dystopian literature who are looking for something refreshing and new.

Christina also writes adult post-apocalyptic dystopian under the nom de plume C.L. Zelle, with her first foray into the adult world, The End Saga (formerly The Night Blind Saga) releasing this year. Books one and two, “Willows in the End,” and, “Ravens in the End,” are now available, and book three, “Beacons in the End” releases Nov. 21, 2018. Proving to be quite the polarizing series, Rozelle shows her true prowess as a teller of tales with this no-holds-barred approach to a popular genre, showcasing her ability to evoke powerful emotions from her readers, be they positive or negative. She says, “as long as they’re thinking and feeling, my work here is done.”

When asked if she had plans to pull back on those wild reigns of her dark NA world, she just giggled, scrolling through her impressive backlog. Though she may not go any darker than this series, she says she’s created a lot of “wiggle room” between the YA world of The Treemakers, and the dark and taboo world of Grace and company, and she plans to fully employ every bit of that space (though, admittedly, she’s terrible at coloring inside the lines).

Rozelle’s writing roots sprouted with poetry and prose in countless journals in her early years, continuing through her tumultuous teenage years, and well into her turbulent young adult life. Though her younger self dreamed of scribing non-fiction and poetry someday, when she discovered the magic in creating fiction she never looked back. Overcoming countless obstacles of her own, the wisdom gained along her personal path through healing breathes life into her beautifully dark, yet hopeful tales of triumph. Filled with an array of emotional triggers, not many topics are off limits in her works. Rozelle’s exceptional storytelling dives deep into the survival and growth journeys of diverse, broken characters and unlikely heroes. Authentic, gritty, intricate, and wildly imaginative, her stories also offer hope–a light in the dark–as her characters discover their own inner strengths and worth in the midst of debilitating adversity.

Though her wanderlust calls her to a nomadic life of traveling the world in planes, trains, ships, and RVs, Christina currently resides in a small town in Texas, USA, with her four wonderful children and a bunch of furbabies, where she’s blessed to be able to do what she loves every day.

#WOTR19 – #Review – The Arbiter (Divinely Damned #1) by K.B. Everly and Brandy Slaven

#WOTR19 attending author BRANDY SLAVEN

The Arbiter (Divinely Damned, #1)

“She is too sinful to be Divine
and too righteous to be Damned.”

Nocturna; a hybrid, an all around smart ass, and the owner of The Apothecary, a night club for all the denizens that walk the earth to play amongst humans, is about to have her life altered by the Creator of all.

The last Arbiter has fallen and a new one must be chosen, one of both Divine and Damned blood. She will be both judge and executioner for the supernatural races, choosing how to punish or bless the souls brought before her.

Within her first week with her new status, Damned from all over are disappearing and disturbing videos of Damned being tortured and killed are surfacing. When Lord Monroe, one of The Infernal leaders of the Damned, becomes one of those who are missing, the Damned begin to point their fingers at The Rites; the Divine soldiers who are part of The Order of Abel. The clock is ticking, and it is her responsibility to find who is responsible and pass judgement. With the help of Enoch, an Infernal of the Damned, and Larkan, a Rite of the Order, Nocturna travels to Lord Monroe’s estate, hoping to find clues as to what happened to him and all the others.

Her integrity and her heart will be pushed and pulled in all directions as she faces the biggest dilemma of her existence; can she make the decision that is right for the lives of all, not the decision that is easiest for her. Will she stay true and lead the world into peace? Or will she choose sides like all the Arbiters before her and lead them all to destruction?

**This is a Reverse Harem Dark Romance that is recommended for ages 18+. There are elements of violence, such as torture and a body count, and steamy scenes that are sure to light you on fire. If you’re into that sort of thing, then boy do we have the book for you!

Goodreads

First, the cover of this book is amazing! Second, the premise of the story is incredible! Third, I can’t wait for the sequel!

“There’s always a fine line between everything. Love and hate. Cruelty and compassion. Pure and tainted. Light and dark. Most fail on either side of the spectrum within black or white, but none fall on that line that flows through the grey areas. No one is a perfect balance of all those things.”

This is what the Arbiter is supposed to be. Nocturna is a half breed. Half Divine and half Damned. There are very few halfies in the world and the Creator chooses one to be the Arbiter. The Arbiter is judge and jury over the Damned and Divine. Nocturna believes in a place that both beings can be themselves as long as nobody breaks the rules. She has created a sort of sanctuary for both within her club, The Apothecary. One eventful night and her world is rocked when she becomes the Arbiter. She finds that a past love and heartbreak, Enoch, is part of the Infernal who are the leaders of the Damned. She falls for Monroe, another leader of the Infernal. And has an incredible bond with Larkan, a Rite with the Divine. As they find out that Damned have been abducted and tortured they all find that they are part of the bigger picture and need to save these souls and stop the torturing. At the same time we are finding that not everyone on their team are loyal and their are traitors in the midst. Monroe ends up being captured, one of her dearest friends are abducted and her friend’s husband has been killed. Nocturna has to turn herself over to the bad guys in order to try and save the ones she love. And all the men in her life are going to be needed to keep her balanced between the Divine and the Damned.

This is a dark paranormal reverse harem story that is very intriguing. There is a lot going on within the big picture. It is dark and mysterious and is intense on the emotions evoked. It seemed to me like there was a lot of world building going on but some things were missed or rushed. Some of the characters were a little underdeveloped in my opinion. There was always just something out of reach. Overall though, I really enjoyed the story. There is a cliffhanger and I am anxiously awaiting the sequel to see how the story develops. It’s a wicked start to what I am sure will be an intense series!

#WOTR19 – #Review – The New Death (True Death #3) by R.K. Gleason

The New Death (The True Death Series, #3)

Three years after suffering torments at the whim of Daniel, The Guardian of the remaining angels in Purgatory, Shepard is left a wretched soul, untethered and adrift. But things have catastrophically changed in the delicate balance. There’s something unholy festering beneath the overcrowded streets of Purgatory, and only Shepard knows the key to its survival.

New friendships and alliances are formed, old friends resurface, and others are cast aside. Purgatory will never be the same, if it survives at all.

Goodreads

I feel a little more evil with every book that I read of R.K.’s! This series has me hooked! In this author’s true fashion The New Death continues with bad language, crazy friendships, witty banter and the perfect amount of horror and gore! I can’t tell you enough how good this book is and is probably my favorite of this series so far.

“But like someone I once loved told me, f*ck it.”

We start this story three years after Shepard lost Andrea. Shepard is in a drunken stupor and has missed everything that Matthew and Horace have done with bringing the new souls into Purgatory. Since Matthew can now bring all of the souls in to one location and Horace tries to explain the rules to everyone to avoid them being taken and killed by The Other Things, Burnington has become over-populated and is in a crazy state of disrepair. In the midst of one of the groups coming in, Niki is amongst them. She and a new friend escape the madness and make it out into Burnington, Purgatory just trying to survive. They are chased by some thugs and run into the subway system to escape them but what the didn’t know was that there are much worse things in the subway. Niki is able to escape and happens upon Shepard and he brings her back to the Open. At once Horace is taken by Niki. As the group become four again they make a plan to try and save her friend. Shepard is being haunted by Andrea and in one of his hauntings he is visited by another being that gives him the key to survival and bring balance back to Purgatory. This rescue mission almost turns into a suicide mission due to new developments. Old friends resurface and more questions are brought forth. This book is one helluva wild ride just like the ones before. And the twists that are brought in will have you smiling and saying WTF! I love this author’s style and can’t wait to continue the series! The story is gripping and definitely not for the faint of heart!

#WOTR18 – Review – The Vengeful Death (True Death #2) by R.K. Gleason

The Vengeful Death (The True Death Series, #2)

It’s been one year since the incident at The Lazarus Tower, and the destruction of the Hemo-goblins. Shepard and Andrea are in love, and Horace is beginning to move past Matthew’s unintended betrayal. But all is not well in Purgatory.

A powerful, hidden Angel is on the prowl, and he doesn’t like Matthew’s protection of Shepard and Horace. He’s planning to deliver his own judgment, to exact a pound of flesh or two for their audacity, and focuses his attention on Matthew.

Matthew knew it was only a matter of time before he’d be called to atone for his actions. Now he waits to reap the fate he has earned. But this Angel’s retribution won’t be laid on Matthew alone. He’s decided all of them will suffer.

Friendships will be tested and old enemies battled. Vengeance will reign, as impossible choices are made if any of them hope to see another day in Purgatory.

Goodreads

“Anger is a short madness.” This line sums this book up. I have to be honest. After I read the first book I just picked this one up without reading the synopsis as I wanted to be totally surprised by what I was reading. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! EPIC READ! Purgatory is a strange place. A place where you never truly die (unless by The Other Things) and it is always dusk. Never changing. Always going. In the first book we find out that Matthew is an angel and he intervened and saved Shepard and Horace, which is against the rules. He is getting antsy as a year has gone by and he still has not been punished. While waiting and waiting crazy things start happening to Shepard. This is the spoiler I will give, then no more! Shep is dreaming about people he knew and they are being dropped in Purgatory….but bad things are happening to them. They start to connect the dots and they have to figure out why this is happening. In the midst of this all Shep and Andrea have fallen in love and she has become part of their rag tag family unit at The Open. She is deaf but absolutely not dumb. And boooooyyyyy does she have a mouth on her, but it is all in her mind as she can’t talk. She absolutely fits with Shep. She is the female version of Shep only she can “say” the f bomb and the lord’s name in vain as she has to use her hands only. They way that this group interacts is hilarious. This is a love story of sorts but is super gory and witty as hell! And the ending……………the ending left my mouth hanging open trying to figure out what the hell happened! I was totally blindsided and no clue this was going to happen. It is so worth the read. If you took the time to read this review you better take the time to read this story….you won’t regret it! Now I’m off to read The New Death #3!!!!!! I have to continue and see what shenanigans Shep and Horace get into next!
