Twinsie Kelly’s Review

This is a fun and easy read with just the right amount of mystery with love connections. I love when you get a story that has paranormals that you are not normally used to and this story has them all! Mermaids, witches, sasquatches, unicorns, to a sphinx! I mean it literally had paranormals from all walks of life. If this was real, I could absolutely see the appeal of working at this resort. Since it is not real, I will settle for reading the series, LOL! Destiny just wants to work and be left alone. She loves her job but her boss is an epic…well, no one likes him. All of a sudden her boss drops dead, on her shift! AND SHE HAS TO CLEAN UP THE MESS!  How much worse could it get? Yeah, she is being blamed for his murder. She has so many allies but the paranormal community does things a lot different than humans and they hand out the punishments quick and swift. Time is running out for her. Her friends, ex, brother, and potential new love interest all work together and end up making things work out. All of the characters really make this story great. I look forward to continuing the series.

The Fetch Phillips Novels have become one of my top favorite series ever! For me, by the time an author reaches the 4th book and beyond, I start to lose interest because what more can you really do with a story? Things start to repeat or things get really far fetched and aren’t enjoyable anymore. That is the furthest thing for this series. I am as hooked to Whisper in the Wind as I was to the first book as I was to the second and third. I also continue to recommend listening to the audio as opposed to reading it. Mr. Arnold does an incredible job with Fetch!

I wasn’t really sure how this was going to pan out because Fetch is more or less trying to “give up” by staying low and just focusing on him and working Georgio’s café. He is controlling what he can control, himself and serving good coffee and food. However, Fetch can’t help it when he sees some teens in trouble because he sees himself. He puts his neck out on the line for them but then ends up being a sort of safe haven for the misfits. But hey, it gives him some purpose. While all this is happening, there is a radical that has been spewing things via propaganda and Fetch finds himself being pulled in all sorts of directions and working for everyone he swore off. I love all the new characters and all the crazy twists and turns. Just when Fetch found his place and realized what he was supposed to do, something changes and he is put on a completely different course. The ending left me with my mouth gaping open. I am anxiously waiting for book 5. Well done, Mr. Arnold, you have my full attention!

I cannot recommend this series/book enough. And if you do pick it up, I recommend it even more to listen to it via audiobook. My personal opinion is that the audio really puts the cherry on top. Fetch is not a super complicated character; he is just trying to find his place. He has for so long believed that the magic disappearing is his fault and has been holding this weight on his shoulders alone, but there have been sparks of the possibility that there may actually be some magic out there.

Fetch is put on a new “case.” This gives us quite a few new characters and a few that we get to see a deeper side of. True to past books, we get Fetch’s same dry humor and him constantly battling himself. But this book…this book really gave me some feels. Fetch and the others were put in some difficult situations that were difficult for me to process, let alone the characters. I mean, I felt like they were REAL. These characters have become a part of me. Earlier I said that I recommend listening to this if you have the chance, I really do because there are parts where the emotion is so intense that I was literally breathless and had tears in my eyes. And folks, I am not a crier. I AM NOT A CRIER! Fetch has evolved so much. I cannot wait to continue his journey and I am hoping to catch up with some of the others on the way. This is hands down one of my favorite books!

I cannot get enough of this series. I highly recommend listening to it via audiobook. The author/narrator is phenomenal! Every gritty corner, unsavory character, questionable moral, is felt as if you are right in the story. I love the wittiness and how irritatingly twisted up it makes you feel while reading/listening to it. Fetch just can’t catch a break and just when he thinks he has things figured out, he is pulled into something else just as chaotic and crazy and going down another rabbit hole….or dragon hole. There is never a slow moment. All the characters bring something to the table. Every. Single. One. Fetch and the police department are getting along now (kind of), he has “friends,” some people from his past pop back up in his life (and seriously gave me some kind of feels!), but most importantly Fetch started trying to figure out exactly what he is doing. He has switched sides and shared secrets he shouldn’t have. He was a huge part of the problem and just wants to do the right thing. But, like most people (religions, politics, etc.), they all can justify their cause. Fetch needs to dig down deep and figure out what his cause really is.  I am extremely impressed with this series and NEED more!  I am on my way to list to the next in the series! The Last Smile in Sunder City has a Noir Comic feel and is a great story. I listened to the story via audiobook and as kept thinking to myself, “how did the author come up with this title?” Then all of a sudden, it hit me and it fits this story perfectly. The world building is very intricate with a lot of twisted turns. Fetch has spent a lot of his life trying to find his place. Where does he belong, what is right and wrong, which side does he belong to? At this point in his life, he carries a great burden as he feels that he is the reason all the magic is gone. He caused this and is now in a constant state of loneliness and has basically shunned all humans, like himself. However, this latest case takes him down a rabbit hole that makes him remember much of his past and sparks a hope for the future. It is magical, gritty, dark, but witty. The narrator has the perfect voice for this type of storytelling. I look forward to uncovering more of Fetch’s monsters and seeing what else lies in the shadows of Sunder City.

Hello, my alpha and omega readers, have I got a treat for you! Even if you are not into alpha and omega stories, I think you’re going to like this one too. I myself am not a huge fan of the alpha and omega genre but I dip my toe in from time to time and Lexi Foss has some good books in her different series. So, I had an idea of what to expect but this trilogy exceeded my expectations. This trilogy is a retelling of Hades and Persephone. Serapina is the reincarnation of Persephone, but her reincarnation did not follow the usual reincarnation rules so there is some very interesting things going on here. There is a book that comes before this trilogy that follows Serapina’s sister’s story, but I have not read it and I was not missing anything for Serapina’s story. This trilogy has a mix of all kinds of things, including Greek gods and goddesses, a very interesting take on how the underworld looks and works, and letting go of the past to accept a very different future.

I have to say that one of the things that really impressed me here was the world building and the storyline. I am an avid reader and there were several things in this series that I just did not see coming. Serapina has her own ideas on how she wants to live her life and is determined to make her own way with a job and be independent. Hades is convinced that she is Persephone, and that she is pretending to not remember anything and that she is trying to trick him. Enter Maliki, Hades friend and an assassin, that Hades has keep an eye on Serapina. He is his own kind of chaos, and he keeps Serapina from being attacked by all different kinds of things in the underworld without her knowing it, so she thinks she is just fine living on her own. The third thing to heat up our magical story is Morpheus, the God of Dreams, who has been trying to get Hades to admit that he is also Persephone’s mate for hundreds of years. However, Hades has a jealous streak 10 miles wide that I swear borders on obsession and won’t admit to anything. Morpheus is determined to be part of Serapina’s life, including her dreams, and he is the one that really helps her learn the truth about who she is and what is happening to her.

Book 1 introduces us to our main characters, their world, and to the fact that something strange is happening but you can’t quite put your finger on what is wrong. Book 2 introduces us to the wider underworld, to the fact that something is very wrong with the way Serapina was reincarnated, and to the fact that someone has been using Persephone / Serapina’s soul to do some very underhanded things. Book 3 unravels all the lies, all the mysteries, and shows us if these three very different alphas can work together. Serapina is no weak omega that needs protected all the time, she is a fighter in more ways than one and she’s determined to fix everything even if it costs her her life.

I have to say I really loved the way this series looks at the world of the underworld and the entities that live there. There are such interesting characters and viewpoints. I do recommend reading this trilogy in order as each book picks up right after the previous one. I also recommend 18+ for readers interested in this story. While it is somewhat of a slow burn there is plenty of nudity and innuendoes before the explicit content that I’d say 18+ all the way. These books are all in KU:

Okay I am officially obsessed with this series. I actually think I became obsessed after book 1. This series has it all: Strong characters, a sibling bond, love, passion, action and more.

This book is about The Reckoning obviously. So we’re back with Tory and Darcy trying to fit in and navigate the ways of the Fae while dealing with four grumpy heirs who are trying to get rid of them. Just when they think they can trust people, it of course backfires on them.

So much happens in this book that I’m sure I’m going to forget quite a few things for this review.

We continue seeing what a monster Darius’s dad is and the intense hold he has on his sons. Darius is my favourite of the four heirs by the way.

Caleb and Tory and still doing their thing but he keeps giving her whiplash with his nice guy act and then suddenly turning mean and wanting to get rid of her.

Like Tory says in the book, at least Darius has been honest this whole time and she knows where she stands with him. He hates her – maybe not as much as he tries to though – and she hates him – again, not as much as she thinks either. I’m chomping at the bit for these two to get together.

I really like the dynamic between Darcy and Orion but I’m just waiting for their thing to become public and how it’ll destroy what they have.

I’m so excited to read the rest of the books! I feel like now we’re really getting into the nitty gritty of the world. ‘

So prepare to step into the dark minds of the Zodiac boys and watch out for the heartbreak and carnage that will ensue.

I got to book 3 in this series before I found a reading order and before I realized that I should have tandem read this one with book 1. But having read book 1 and gotten more into the series, it was fun going back to the beginning to find out why the guys are the way they are. They all have their own reasons, having to deal with their parents’ wrath but Darius’s situation is the worst of them all. His father is a monster and the things he puts Darius through, add to the fact that he uses his brother to get him to do what he wants…man I can’t wait for the day that Darius can take him on and get rid of him.

It was interesting to see the guys’ points of views during certain situations. Their filthy minds were definitely far more out there than the girls’. Lol!

There are so many different reading orders for this series/world and I feel that there is no right or wrong way to read them. Just enjoy the process.
