It’s a good quick read it’s a nice break from a book book, some of the poems spoke to you and others were just a little off. Other then that it was a quick read

#Sugar4Spice #AuthorSpotlight – Miranda Shanklin

Miranda Shanklin

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Miranda Shanklin I write paranormal romance about witches. I live in central Illinois with my husband and two teenage children. we have two dogs, a turtle and three cats. I am a paralegal for my day job and write every chance I get. My mind is always spinning and coming up with the next story or working out what will come up next in the story I’m working on now. My family sometimes has a hard time keeping my attention because I will get lost in the story in my head, but instead of getting annoyed it has become a family joke.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I used to need it to be silent. My husband built me an office and put extra insulation around it as a sound barrier. Now I have to play Pandora so there is some kind of noise in the background. I always have peanut butter M&Ms and Mountain Dew there too.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love seeing other authors that I have met at other signings but I have to admit I can’t beat the feeling of meeting readers who have read one of my books and is there just to find me and wants the next book. Or hears what the books are about and gets excited to read them. That is what I do this for, the readers, so when they get excited it makes it all worth it.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Stephen King. I have been reading his books since I was a preteen. I don’t know if I would even be able to say anything if I came face to face with him. I would completely fan girl.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’m a sit and go whenever I have a chance kind of person. Just like I write. I don’t plan anything. I feel it’s too forced if I plan it out because then I have to follow this plan that’s already laid out. Then if something new comes to me I can’t do that because it will mess up the rest of the plan. I am just as surprised as to what is going to happen next in my books as everyone else. I tried doing a schedule and I ended up sitting there at a blank screen. I had to go back to just sitting down and writing when it felt right to me.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I get a booth at a local festival every year and sell copies of my books. I had to stop writing for a little bit while I had some health issues. I had one woman come to my booth every year and ask if I had gotten my trilogy written and published yet. This year I had just gotten the last book published before the festival. She was so excited she was bouncing as she paid for the books. She said she was going home to re-read the series and then start the trilogy.
she was so excited. She didn’t lose interest, instead she just kept waiting and couldn’t wait to read what I had written. I am still amazed by that.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

The first book I wrote. It will always be my most prized possession. It shows that I had a dream and no matter how much I was told it would never happen, I made it happen. I worked hard and I made my dream come true.

#Sugar4SPICE #AuthorSpotlight – Lauren Eckhardt

Lauren Eckhardt

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Lauren Eckhardt – I’m a mama of two incredible boys, an introvert, empath, author of young adult and women’s fiction, and a women’s empowerment coach.
I also love to cook, read, travel, boulder and try my hand in whatever creative outlet I can when I get free time!

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

I’m pretty flexible on location but a must-have is chocolate-covered pretzels and wine or coffee dependent on time of day!

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting fellow book-lovers! And of course sharing my books. But talking to people about books in general is so much fun.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Lois Lowry

What author would you love to write with?

Taylor Jenkins Reid

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My 3-year old son telling people that I write books like it’s the greatest thing in the world (which it is). Also, finally overcoming all my introverted fears and excuses and pushing out over a decade’s worth of work in 4 books (with 1 more on the way) in 2019.

#Sugar4SPICE #AuthorSpotlight – J. Lawson

J. Lawson

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

J Lawson

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

Perkins Restaurant. Coffee or tea for sure and likely some kind of salad with an indecent amount of ranch dressing.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting people who have a passion for the same things as myself. Talking books is what brings me joy, so being able to ignite a passion for my own work is the definition of living the dream for me.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Karen Marie Moning. I would love to sit down and talk to her for just an hour even. She writes such relatable fiction which is not an easy task. I admire her writing style. I feel there’s so much I could learn and glean from her.

What author would you love to write with?

I’m so wary of collaborative writing, but I would absolutely be willing to give it a go with Kim Harrison.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Shortly after my first book was published, my cousin sent me a candid picture of her pre-teen daughter reading it in her room. The look on her face was complete concentration/focus and it actually made me tear up. That was all I ever wanted when I started writing this trilogy; I wanted people to read and enjoy my work. That’s the dream. It’s still surreal to think about it.
