Happy Pride Month everyone! Twinsie Tenise here. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to answer the questions for our pride month celebration. I thought hard about the questions and had fun coming up with them. I love that the authors seemed to have as much fun answering them. We will be celebrating all month with author spotlights as well as reviews for some of the LGBTQIA books we’ve read this year. Check back daily to learn more about that days featured author or book and add to your TBR piles. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about all of these wonderful authors and their work.
🏳🌈 Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
Harley Wylde (aka Dulce Dennison)
🏳🌈 How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
Over 300 – no favorite characters. That’s like asking who my favorite child is 😂
🏳🌈 Do you write one book and finish it completely before starting the next? If not, how do you keep yourself from confusing the projects?
I wish! I have multiple folders of partially written stories from as far back as 2008. Any related to series are tracked with a spreadsheet. Otherwise, I read what I’ve already written on a story then continue from there (if I’m hopping between books),
🏳🌈 What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is it a default setting?
Book Antiqua – it’s what my publisher uses so it gives me a better idea of final page count
🏳🌈 How do you ensure your LGBTQ characters feel authentic and mutifaceted, rather than just serve a plot function?
I have several family members who are part of the LGBTQ community. They’re just like everyone else. They have their hopes and fears, and struggle over crushes. I create those characters the same way I’d create any others, just with a few extra worries in some cases. There are some who stress over anyone discovering they’re gay, while others are out and proud. At the end of the day, creating any character and making them feel real means giving them a genuine personality, worries, struggles, and everything we as humans deal with every day. I know there are those in the community who live in fear, and my heart breaks for them, but in my eyes they’re no different from anyone else — they’re human. What does it matter who they love?
🏳🌈 What is one of your favorite books or movies with LGBTQ representation?
Feel free to share more than one, I know it is difficult as a reader to pick one favorite of anything. Especially if its book related.
I actually read a lot of manga and web comics, so my favorite is one I discovered on Manta (but it’s now in paperback!): The Dangerous Convenience Store.
🏳🌈 What is something you have used for a bookmark that IS NOT a bookmark?
Receipts or torn pieces of paper, occasionally a pen
🏳🌈 Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what are some of your favorite genres or songs?
Yes!! I listen to a variety of genres, but a few of my current favorites are: RIP by margo Seether by Veruca Salt It’s Tricky by Run-DMC Anyone but Me by Citizen Soldier
