Celebrating Pride with Kate Hawthorne #wotr26 #attendingauthor #spotlight

Happy Pride Month everyone!  Twinsie Tenise here. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to answer the questions for our pride month celebration. I thought hard about the questions and had fun coming up with them. I love that the authors seemed to have as much fun answering them. We will be celebrating all month with author spotlights  as well as reviews for some of the LGBTQIA  books we’ve read this year.  Check back daily to learn more about that days featured author or book and add to your TBR piles. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about all of these wonderful authors and their work.

🏳‍🌈 Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
Hi! I’m Kate Hawthorne and I’m your favorite author’s favorite author. I write kinky and contemporary LGBT romance and I’ve been publishing for eight years. I’m a southern California native, living in KY for the past 6 years. I love reading, writing, ghost hunting, and other woo woo shit.
🏳‍🌈 How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
I stopped counting, but well over 3 dozen at this point. Unfettered is probably one of my favorites right along with Bound.
🏳‍🌈 Do you write one book and finish it completely before starting the next? If not, how do you keep yourself from confusing the projects?
For years that’s what I did. One book at a time. Then when I started cowriting with EM Denning, I would have one solo book and one collab at a time. The past 6 or 8 months though I’ve been juggling multiple WIP’s at the same time. Right now I have 2 solo books and one collab happening at the same time. Thankfully, keeping them separate isn’t a huge issue because all the characters have very distinct voices and plot arcs!
🏳‍🌈 What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is it a default setting?
I write in an app called Dabble and use whatever their default is. I honestly don’t even know.
🏳‍🌈 How do you ensure your LGBTQ characters feel authentic and mutifaceted, rather than just serve a plot function?
One thing I try to keep in mind is everybody’s story is unique, in real life and in fiction so I carry that through to my characters. While I may come up with an idea for a book based off a trope or device I want to use, I always make sure each character has a starting and ending point for their character arc and make sure they fully realize that growth before the end of the book. I think so much about sexuality and identity is a spectrum and the best way to stay authentic to my characters is to let them inform how their story is going to play out.
🏳‍🌈 Do you have a favorite piece of LGBTQ history or fun fact you would like to share?
My brain always goes impossibly blank when you ask these questions.
🏳‍🌈 What is one of your favorite books or movies with LGBTQ representation?

Feel free to share more than one, I know it is difficult as a reader to pick one favorite of anything. Especially if its book related.
I mean, pretty much the only books I read haveLGBT pairings so it would be super hard to try and narrow it down. Obviously it’s tragic, but Song of Achilles is always going to be a masterpiece.
🏳‍🌈 What is something you have used for a bookmark that IS NOT a bookmark?
I dog ear my books.
🏳‍🌈 Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what are some of your favorite genres or songs?
I used to, but not as much anymore. I used to craft playlists based on the vibe of the book so the genre really varied, but I love emo and EDM.
🏳‍🌈 What is a super specific detail you know about one of your characters that has no relevance to the story?
I know Rhys St. George wears a size eleven shoe.
