Celebrating Pride with Beck Grey #authorspotlight

Happy Pride Month everyone!  Twinsie Tenise here. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to answer the questions for our pride month celebration. I thought hard about the questions and had fun coming up with them. I love that the authors seemed to have as much fun answering them. We will be celebrating all month with author spotlights  as well as reviews for some of the LGBTQIA  books we’ve read this year.  Check back daily to learn more about that days featured author or book and add to your TBR piles. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about all of these wonderful authors and their work.

🏳‍🌈 Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
I’m Beck Grey, a queer author writing my way through the rainbow. I write low-angst LGBTQ+ romance, both contemporary and romantasy. My stories are character driven, spicy open door romances where imperfect characters find perfect (for them) love.
🏳‍🌈 How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
I’ve written eight novels and six novellas, and I do have favorites. Embrace Me, Choose Me, and Vengeance.
🏳‍🌈 Do you write one book and finish it completely before starting the next? If not, how do you keep yourself from confusing the projects?
I do “one-at-a-time” write. If I were ever to attempt to write two books at a time I would only try if one was a contemporary and one was a romantasy just so I could keep plots straight.
🏳‍🌈 What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is it a default setting?
Yeah, whatever the default is.
🏳‍🌈 How do you ensure your LGBTQ characters feel authentic and mutifaceted, rather than just serve a plot function?
LGBTQ people are just like non-LGBTQ people, so I write stories. Period. The characters happen to be LGBTQ, and that’s NEVER the plot. It’s just part of who they are. Like being a teacher, or having brown eyes. So either I can write authentic and multifaceted characters or I can’t. Being a queer character has nothing to do with it.
🏳‍🌈 What is one of your favorite books or movies with LGBTQ representation?
Feel free to share more than one, I know it is difficult as a reader to pick one favorite of anything. Especially if its book related.
Let’s go TV show instead. Because the absolute BEST representation of queerness with an incredible plotline was Sense8.
🏳‍🌈 What is something you have used for a bookmark that IS NOT a bookmark?
a noodle. uncooked, of course. And it was very temporary. My reading was interrupted.
🏳‍🌈 Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what are some of your favorite genres or songs?
NO. I need quiet to hear the characters. Words start and I start singing. I can write to classical (LOOOOVE Handel and Vivaldi) or meditation soundtracks.
🏳‍🌈 What is a super specific detail you know about one of your characters that has no relevance to the story?
I had so many I wrote and published a compendium for my Love in the Pacific Northwest series. Characters’ favorite colors, how parents met, favorite foods, first loves, it’s all in there.
