Celebrating Pride with JM Walker #wotr26 #attendingauthor #spotlight

Happy Pride Month everyone!  Twinsie Tenise here. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to answer the questions for our pride month celebration. I thought hard about the questions and had fun coming up with them. I love that the authors seemed to have as much fun answering them. We will be celebrating all month with author spotlights  as well as reviews for some of the LGBTQIA  books we’ve read this year.  Check back daily to learn more about that days featured author or book and add to your TBR piles. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about all of these wonderful authors and their work.

🏳‍🌈 Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
J.M. Walker and I hate talking about myself. Lol – I’m a Canadian author who writes several different genres, travels the world (literally) and loves all things dark and spooky. I’m still on a hunt for a human skull I can use for a bowl.
🏳‍🌈 How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
50+ – Holy moly – Broken Scars WAS my favourite until I wrote the Within Chaos duet…
🏳‍🌈 Do you write one book and finish it completely before starting the next? If not, how do you keep yourself from confusing the projects?
Sometimes but most times I write more than one at a time because it prevents me from getting writer’s block. Although, I’m still struggling with that now thanx to the last duet I wrote. My projects are usually quite different from each other, so that helps me keep them straight.
🏳‍🌈 What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is it a default setting?
Times New Roman – I just find it looks better for writing purposes. I change it when I get to the formatting stage.
🏳‍🌈 How do you ensure your LGBTQ characters feel authentic and mutifaceted, rather than just serve a plot function?
I make sure they’re the centre of the plot. They usually start out as side characters that will get their own stories eventually. But with my Coffee Beans & Love series, Queerness is the main focus but I kept it light and sexy and nothing to do with the struggles that Queer people face.
🏳‍🌈 Do you have a favorite piece of LGBTQ history or fun fact you would like to share?
The Toronto Pearson airport has a giant Pride mural. I need to take a picture one of these days.
🏳‍🌈 What is one of your favorite books or movies with LGBTQ representation?

Feel free to share more than one, I know it is difficult as a reader to pick one favorite of anything. Especially if its book related.
Broken Dolls: Deliverance by Mique Watson. If you can get past the extreme horror bits, the MM story behind it is beautiful and heart breaking.
🏳‍🌈 What is something you have used for a bookmark that IS NOT a bookmark?
Bills, receipts, food advertisements, pen… lol
🏳‍🌈 Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what are some of your favorite genres or songs?
I do but it has to be instrumental usually. I love music that you listen to at a coffee shop, so if I’m at Starbucks, the music has words obviously but if I’m home, it’ll just be music only.
🏳‍🌈 What is a super specific detail you know about one of your characters that has no relevance to the story?
The guy in my next duet bites off someone’s ear when he was a kid. I don’t mention it in the books but I wrote it in the notes I did for his backstory.
