#WOTR23 #Review – Broken Outlaws By: BT Urruela

Xander Evans lived a tragic childhood, spending most of those years in foster care. He never felt like he had a home—discouraged with his plight—until he stopped in the small town of Truman Valley, Missouri. There, he met a woman who would change everything he ever knew. Paige Watson opened his heart and eyes to a new perspective; redefining Xander’s mind, body, and soul, giving him a new outlook on life. Unfortunately, luck had other plans and Xander now faced a new home—prison—after being sentenced to life for the murder of his true love’s mother.

Gabriela Michaels grew up with loving adoptive parents in Wyoming; her life far more stable than the brother she never knew, Xander Evans, who bounced around between foster homes. The stability and support encouraged Gabriela to become the first female US Army Special Forces soldier with three deployments under her belt. On her third and final deployment, Gabriela fell victim to a military sexual trauma. Upon leaving the service, Gabriela’s life quickly spiraled out of control in a fury of drugs and violence. Her only hope rested in a band of broken outlaws and her former flame, a brother-in-arms.

These broken outlaws came from different pasts, different circumstances, different influences, but together they forged a bond unlike any other. Through love, loyalty, and sacrifice they strengthened their broken places—kindred spirits in the world of sinners, misfits, and outlaws.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I found myself laughing at the characters and wanting to have a drink with them at points in the book. Then there were parts were I wanted to curl up next to them and hug them hold them and cry with them. You know something bad happens from the prologue but you get sucked into the story and you just don’t want to believe it’s going to happen or be true. These people become family, your family and you only want the best for them good things for them. I mean they are good people after all. What am I talking about who are these wonderful people well let me tell you about them.

Xander Evans grew up in foster care and is traveling through a small town in Missouri when he sees a guy giving a gorgeous woman a hard time. Well Xander is not going to stand for that and steps in. This wins the appreciation of the ladies father and an invite to dinner which eventually lands Xander a job at the Watson Wineries. Xander becomes close to the Watson family especially the daughter Paige. However, he keeps his distance because he doesn’t want to disrespect her dad Jack. Xander doesn’t made many friends and Paige has a nasty ex that won’t leave them alone. Things are going good until one tragic night that changes all their lives for the worse and their lives will never be the same. Want to know what that was well you’re going to have to get the book and read it for yourself because that is all your getting out of me. Now I need to go get my tissues to catch the tears.

I absolutely loved Paige and her no hold back say whatever I son my mind. Even though she has a great family life and a loving mom and dad it doesn’t mean she has had an easy life. The relationship she has with her BFF Brandi is the best they can tell each other anything just say it how it is and not get upset with one another if they do they don’t stay that way for long. The friendship that Xander and Chase have is amazing too. Even though Xander tries to fight the feelings for Paige the sparks are there and they are spectacular. The day Paige’s Mom and Dad find out about them is great I enjoy watching these two squirm.

BT Urruela did a good job on his first novel he had me turning the pages devouring this story. I so enjoyed these characters they came alive for me I was right there going through everything with them and when tragedy hits I was a blubbering mess even though I knew it was coming I still didn’t want to admit it. It’s like I said these people became my people and I wanted to protect them and didn’t want anything to happen to them. All I can say is I want more and need more of Xander, Paige, Brandi and Chase.

BT Urruela was an infantryman in the US Army from August 2004 until February 2011. #WOTR23 #Review – The Polar Bear’s Fake Mate By: Sophie Stern

The Polar Bear's Fake Mate (Shifters of Rawr County Book 1) by [Sophie Stern]

One bear. One human. One big, fat lie.

Justin
You’d think that with a backstory like mine, the idea of taking a mate is unbelievable. You’d be right. The only reason I’m agreeing to this entire “mates” thing is so that my mother gets off my back, my shareholders are happy, and I continue moving forward in my career. I’m the face of a multi-billion dollar company. I don’t need any scandals in my midst.

Rebecca
The offer is for one year. One year of pretending to be this guy’s mate, and then we can have a quiet divorce. He just needs his shareholders off of his back, and me? Well, I’d like to not starve to death. Only, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Justin. He might have money and brains and incredibly good looks, but there’s a secret that lurks behind those beautiful eyes.

And I intend to find out what it is.

THE POLAR BEAR’S FAKE MATE is the first book in SHIFTERS OF RAWR COUNTY: a new shifter series from Sophie Stern. There is no cheating and a guaranteed HEA for our happy couple. You may also want to check out THE DRAGON’S CHRISTMAS TREASURE for a sneak peek at life in Rawr County!

Once they have it narrowed down the ladies are whisked off to a remote resort to a face-to-face meeting.

Rebecca’s life is unraveling she cannot find a job and her roommate is leaving. If she doesn’t figure something out, she will be homeless before long. When she sees the ad for a temporary wife, she decides this is the adventure she needs.

When Rebecca arrives at the resort, she meets a guy in the elevator there were sparks. Justin sees Rebecca in the elevator he knows this is the one and sends the rest away. Rebecca holds back knowing Justin can break her heart. Plus, she knows he is hiding something but she cannot quite put her finger on what it is.

I enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read more of the series and learn more about these characters. There was so much going on here and the twist. Great start to a series.

#WOTR23 #Review #Audio – Stitched Up Heart: Combat Hearts Series, Book 1 – By: Tarina Deaton Narrator: Hayden Bishop

Stitched Up Heart (Combat Hearts Book 1) by [Tarina Deaton]

As an Air Force medic, Bree Marks saw the worst the War on Terror had to dish out. Now a physical therapist, she uses her experience to help other veterans heal from their physical wounds; while she battles her own emotional damage.

Blaming himself for his best friend’s suicide, former Army Ranger Jase Larken, retreated from life. To honor his best friend’s memory and assuage his guilt, he started an outdoor adventure company to help veterans with PTSD.

Bree had better things to do than catch her cheating fiance in bed with another woman. Jase is something better – for a night at least. For the first time in years, Jase wanted more. When he finds her again, he doesn’t give her another chance to run.

Jase’s protectiveness grates on Bree’s independent nature. She’s dealt with her fair share of alpha-male, door kickers and doesn’t need one telling her what to do now. But as a new danger emerges, Bree and Jase must face their pasts, before someone’s obsession with Bree destroys any chance they have of a future.

Can be read as a stand alone. No cliffhangers within the story.

I purchased this audio book.

When your BFF reads a book and tells you that you have to read it because she knows you will like it. You do not ask questions you pick it up and listen to it.  She was so right I did enjoy this one not only was it a good story but the narrator took it to another level.  Hayden did a great job.

Bree just had a crappy day. Found her fiancé in bed with another woman so she decided to hit the bars with her BFF. I loved Denise and seeing her and Bree’s friendship. Bree ran into Jase at the bar and decides to have a one-night fling. The next night she is out the door and never plans on seeing him again.  When Jase wakes up and she is gone ticked him off. He thought they had something. When the stars line up Bree is brought back to Jase and he is going to hang on to her and not let her run again.

These two are amazing together. They both have their demons they are trying to forget but they keep working their way back. They each understand what the other is going through and knows what the other needs. I loved that Bree was just as tough as Jase. She is no weak female that needs Jase but strong enough to stand up to him.

I enjoyed this story so much I have to say the narration set this one apart from other audio books. I am excited to read more of this series.

Tarina has spent her entire life in and around the military – first as a dependent and then as an enlisted Air Force member.

Blood Magic: An Ariel Kimber Novel, Book 3

Blood Magic is book 3 in the Ariel Kimber Series.

Ariel Kimber isn’t your average seventeen-year-old girl. She’s recently discovered she’s a witch with magic and is looking to find her place in a brand-new world. Her place in this new world is in a coven with seven guys.

After all of the horrible things she’s been forced to endure, Ariel was looking forward to building her new life with the family she’s found herself a part of and focusing on healing with Dash after what Chucky did to the both of them. After the blood that had been spilled, they all struggle to put those memories and the incident behind them. It’s easier said than done, though.

Quinton is plagued with guilt and the rest of them struggle with the fact that they almost lost one of their brothers and Ariel is left with a permanent reminder of the incident.

New bonds are forged, and just as things are starting to settle down again for Ariel and her coven, the Council of Elders makes it’s first appearance in Ariel’s life. And they don’t plan on going anywhere any time soon.

I’m enjoying listening to this series.  The narrator does a wonderful job of captivating me and I have a hard time pausing it. Narrator, Melissa Schwairy, does a great job with all the different characters.

I cannot tell you how much I love Ariel and her guys.  It amazes me at how well these guys and Ariel fit together like the perfect puzzle pieces.  It is fun to do a reread and remember all the small things you forgotten.  Julian and Ariel couch scene and him sending the guys the picture of Ariel, be still my heart. I love Dash but here again Damien is stealing pieces of my heart.

I cannot wait for more of these audio books.

Review from 2018:
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

This series is amazing the more I learn about these guys I love them more and more. They are each so different but I find each trait fits each guy perfectly and it is something that complements Ariel. I love the way Ariel is learning all she can about the guys. It is heartwarming to see all the guys want to be with her and do things for Ariel.

So I adore Tyson and find myself falling for Quinton AKA panty thief. Loving me a little salt and pepper sandwich just saying. The couch scene with Julian was just yeah these guys amaze me with the care and concern they have for Ariel. It cracks me up that Ariel talks about stealing Dash’s cat. But the relationship that I am most interested in is Ariel and Damien. He has intrigued me since the start. To see someone not want any part of Ariel to watching all the things he does for her just makes my heart skip a beat.

I love seeing the guys and Ariel’s relationships evolve. There ewe so much going on in this book mostly finding out more secrets Ariel’s mother had hidden away. To the council that by the way makes my skin crawl and looks like they will be stirring things up for Ariel and her men for a while. I loved how Ariel stood her ground and said what she wanted to the council even if it made her men nervous the way she spoke to the council. Ariel is on a mission and is not going to stop let’s just hope she doesn’t open up Pandora’s Box. I cannot wait to see what happens next and learn more about the guys and Ariel.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I enjoy Brandy’s RH writing style and KB Everly is a new to me author. I was excited to hear this was a women MC and RH. Really could it get better than that fierce women and guys. Plus you do not see many women MC books.

There is world building in this one so the beginning is a bit slow but it does take off. The push and pull between Sidra and Goul was electric. The chemistry between them was explosive. Then there was Bowie and Pitch although ok they didn’t seem to click with Sidra like Goul did.  Maybe it was because there was so much buildup and history between Sid and Goul that it was hard for me to get to that point with the others.

I enjoyed the story line of clean Female MC that is there for their community.  I also loved the other characters in the book. I would like to know more about all of them and their stories.

#WOTR23 #Review – Turbo (The Steels MC Montana Charter Book 11) by: Michel Prince and Wren McCabe

61660429. sx318

In book eleven of The Steel MC Montana Charter: Porsche ‘Turbo’ DeGrassa isn’t one to sit still. While she’s always up for a challenge or a new project, she tends to take them on without ever completing anything. Never in her life has she had a place become more than a pass through to the next adventure, and yet, she’s now five years into living with the Steels in Montana and itching to find something or someone to finally keep her from spinning like a top through life.

For months now, Michael ‘Bugs’ Hanover, has been wondering why his daughter had become distant. The ordinarily bubbly eight-year-old now is reserved and quiet. When he discovers the unthinkable at pick up, he snaps, sending his daughter and him on a cross-country trek to hide out with former SEAL Thomas ‘Hack’ Creek and regroup. His daughter’s safety and future are his only concern. While justified by all rights to the wrong he committed, the law may see it differently. The last thing he needs is a stunning woman connecting with his daughter and him when the stop was supposed to be a harbor in a storm.

A wild woman, much like his ex that didn’t keep his daughter safe, was now the one the little girl ran to for comfort. For Porsche, stepping in with a broken child cannot be a temporary project abandoned for the next fun opportunity. While Michael needs to move on, Turnabout Creek offers him a life after service if he can find a way to stay out of prison. Will he strive to stay one step ahead of the law? Or will he fight for what is right and the chance to be with the Turbo charged woman dancing her way into his life?

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I purchased this book.

So excited to finally get to read Turbo aka Porsche and to meet one of Hacks military buddies. I liked Porsche in the past books but to see her and get to know her better was a treat. If you didn’t know Hack is my favorite so to be able to see so much of him in this book was icing on my cake.  I think besides Hack and Preacher Girls book this was one of my favorites.

Porsche is trying to overcome her past and demons while trying to find her place in the Steel MC. She loves to escape her mind by dancing. She also has the task of helping Chief raise money for a new fire truck and the plan she comes up with is THE BEST. Between dancing and organizing this fundraiser she thinks she is focused.

Mike is on the run with his daughter Sydney and finds his way to Hack knowing he can help. Sydney’s story is a horrific one of abuse and let’s say Michael is beating himself up for not putting the pieces together sooner to identify it.

This story had me in tears, laughing and had me needing to jump in the story and give hugs all round. To see Bugs, Turbo and Syd come together support one another and work through things made my heart happy. What made my heart burst was to see how the entire MC came together to help in any way possible to assist Bugs and Syd.

On a side note: We get to meet Hacks baby and Michel Prince I love the nickname thanks for that.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I loved reading the story of Adria and Luke. He is so level headed and understanding when it comes to Adria. His wolf not so much he is demanding and Luke has to hold him back in many instances. Adira is the Gamma in the Alumbra Pack and is treated as an equal with respect.

Adria and Luke lay eyes on one another when he is at the Alumbra pack to retrieve his sister and bring her home. The moment Adria sees Luke she knows he is her fated mate and runs. Luke is on a mission to woo her and let her know he is the best mate around. Adria decides to go with him to take his sister home to see his family.

Let’s just say not everyone in Luke’s pack is happy to see Adria. She is powerful and must threaten them because now she has someone after her. Luke is torn between staying with his pack and leaving to stay with Alumbra pack. Can Adria and Luke make things work with someone trying to take out Adria. Will Luke be able to choose between leaving his family behind to keep Adria safe or stay with his pack and keep her safe with someone after her.

I loved Luke he was so understanding when Adria said she wasn’t ready for him to mate her. He was able to stay in control and keep his wolf in check. My heart did hurt for Adria for a second the way Luke reacted when give news by his pack leader. I also loved seeing the bond Adria and Luke’s sister have. Even though, she is Luke’s big sister it is like she is Adria’s little sister. Adria is always protective of her and looking out for her best interest.

I received a copy of the audio of this book from the author.

I read this book a few years ago.  I fell in love with these guys and Ariel. It was fun to listen to the audio.  I forgot so many little things I was nice to be reminded.  The narrator, Melissa Schwairy , was very good. I felt like I was right there in the book. I didn’t want to push the pause button when my real life needed attention.

Here is my original review:

So when you are on a road trip with your BFF and she starts to read this book to you while you drive stating you just have to read. Well you listen to her and let me tell you she was right.  I am hooked on this series.

Ariel Kimber has not had an easy life mostly thanks to her mother. Her mom abuses her and has men going in and out her door like people going in and out a revolving door. Her mom meets a man and uproots her to a strange town and new school with no friends. The hurt doesn’t end there being the new girl at school proves to be difficult especially when the town knows her mom’s rep.  When she meets her neighbor’s things start to change for her.

Tyson lives with his Uncle Quinton and twins, Able and Addison.  Ariel becomes fast friends with Tyson but she is leery of Uncle Quin. These four are keeping a big secret from Ariel and she has no idea how much she has in common with them or why she is drawn to them.

The connection these guys and Ariel have is off the charts. The surprises and twists Mary Martel puts in this one has me wanting more and more as I read. The characters are different in their own way and I want to know everything about each one..yes, even Uncle Quin he is so brooding and mysterious.

I am so glad my partner in crime made me listen to this one.  I am hooked and so ready for the next book.

#WOTR23 #Review – ICE (Sin City MC) by: Michel Prince

60847742. sx318

The members of the Sin City MC never leave before all the cards are played.

Being a wild card is par for the course for the Sin City MC’s Maxwell ‘Ice’ Winter. The current Road Captain is tasked with getting the men to their location and back again safely by knowing the back roads, law enforcement traps and safe places to tuck away if danger arises. What he’s not sure of are the five-year-old twins dropped suddenly into his care. While he’d been fighting with their mother for more visitation his life isn’t set up for full time daddy duty. And a score needed to be settled with whoever took their mother from them.

Bree Stanton is like most in Vegas, a transplant. Thousands of miles away from her family in Georgia she missed the old neighborhoods. Generations of people leaving, only to come back. There was no old lady sitting on a porch with the latest gossip. Instead she was met with people confused by her wave at the mailbox, shutting doors to her. All, but one, with a set of adorable twins making her feel like family. When the kids wander to her house because mommy won’t wake up she’s pulled into a world of chaos. One the woman used to the certainty of mathematics is unsure she can handle.

Between Ice’s need for revenge, the threat of the murderer returning and want to protect the littles calling her Auntie, Bree has to remember adrenaline fueled romances never work. Will her logical and cautious nature short her heart of a man worth taking a chance on? And can Ice settle his affairs and teach the first woman to break through his cold heart what it means to be claimed by Sin?

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I purchased this book.

This was a great intro to the Sin City MC. I so enjoyed Ice, the MC guys, and the story line. Most of all the connection between Ice and Bree was great.

After the death of his twin’s mother, he is determined to take care of his kids any means necessary. However, there is Bree the neighbor is also determined that she will protect them any means possible.  Even in that means leaving her home and stepping into the MC life to protect them. Ice is the Road Captain of Sin City MC and can navigate any map but he is having difficulty navigating Bree.

Bree is an only child and moved away form home to build her own life and follow her dreams but she still wants to make her parents proud of her. Sometimes her dreams and her parent’s expectations clash a bit.

This book pulled me in and I have to say even though Ice could be an ass he did take up space in my heart. There was some good twist that I didn’t see coming. The chemistry was great to see between Bree and Ice. Those twins where pretty great too I wouldn’t mind seeing what those two were up to in their teens and older years. Ice will have his hands full that’s for sure.
