Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

This is my first CC Wood book. This is the story of how it all began. How vampires of the Bitten series came to be. I was drawn in from the start it was a quick read and I didn’t want to put it down. The love Aveta and Alaunus have for one another was amazing. They truly balanced one another out.

Aveta was the town outcast. Alaunus was being groomed to take over. Aveta and Alaunus were in love but his father promised his hand to another. Aveta saves Alaunus life after he is cursed but he is not the same when he returns. Even though things are looking up for them until an evil witch gets involved and they are torn apart again.

I enjoyed getting a glimpse at a few of CC Woods Bitten series characters. The ending had me sitting with my mouth hanging open and my heart breaking in two. I really want to know more about these two and this series.

about the author

A native Texan, C.C. grew up either reading or playing the piano. Years later, she’s still not grown up and doing the same things. Since the voices in her head never shut up, C.C. decided to share their crazy stories and started writing books.

Now that she has a baby girl at home, C.C.’s non-writing time is usually spent cleaning up poopy diapers or feeding the poop machine. Sometimes she teaches piano, cooks, or spends time bugging her hubby and two beagles.

BLURB:

I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.

The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.

Killian Shepard.

Shep.

We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into a woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.

He’d be back.

He was always meant to be mine.

He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.

So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.

I got my revenge.

I married his brother, Kael.

Now we’re one big happy fucking family.

angies review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

*Big breath in and out. Wipes my teary eyes and looks at my lappy trying to figure out how in the heck I am going to write a review for this book of amazingness without just blabbing and telling you the whole sorted story.*

Maverick…she has loved and I mean whole heart loved Killian her entire life.  She has grown up knowing he will be her forever.  Promises made and kisses stolen but yet he comes home to destroy her by marrying her sister.

Kael is Killian’s younger brother who has loved Mav his entire life.  He has been by her side for everything.  He has helped her when she fell and celebrated with her for every victory. He has also loved her for as long as he can remember.  When he married her he really and truly married the woman of his dreams.  Too bad she didn’t return that love.

Killian was doing the right thing by Mav.  He was waiting for her to grow up but he was plotting to have a forever with her but then everything changed in the blink of an eye.

The story killed me.  The very first chapter you can see a whole lotta emotion…… We can feel Mav and Killian’s chemistry but at the same time I am rooting for Kael.  We can see how much he loves and had loved Mav.  He was there to heal her heart after Killian betrayed her.  He was slowly becoming her everything and my heart was so happy for our couple….and then…BOOM…the closet flies open. Everything changed in the blink of an eye.  The book made me a mess. Who do I want Mav with?  Kael or Killian?  Her present or her past?  Her best friend or her forever love???  Is she destined to be a Swan or a Small Fry???  I loved and hated each man at different times in the book for different reasons but then when we find out why they did things………..omg my heart would just bust wide open for them.

I am a huge fan on KL’s writings and she is an auto buy for me because her writing is flawless and has so much emotional depth in it.  If you haven’t read her stuff, you are missing out and need to one click the rest of her library.  If you already are a fan this book will make your heart skip a few beats like every other book you have read.

EXCERPT

Lola Maie woke to Rodney moving fast out of bed. “Get dressed. Someone’s outside.” His voice was low and firm. It was no doubt a command, which she followed immediately trusting him completely.

A multitude of lights moved across the long windows lining his bedroom. People were outside. A lot of them.

Then she heard it.

It was a low thumping, something she felt in her sternum before it registered in her ears. Lola Maie’s eyes went wide as she recognized the rapidly growing sound of a helicopter.

Rodney pulled on a pair of jeans laying over chair. In the moving shadows of flashlights racing back and forth, he looked enormous. His broad shoulders, silhouetted against the shocking white of the helicopters eye, seemed six feet wide. Rushing toward her, he all but lifted her off her feet, tucking the bed sheet around her as he swept her towards a small door. “I want you to get in this closet and lock the door. It’s a panic room. Under the carpet in the left corner is everything you’ll need. You don’t open this door until I tell you and not before.”

Lola Maie just stared at him.

“You hear me? Promise me. Right now, say it!”

“I promise.” She breathed.

Then he shoved her inside and slammed the door. “I want to hear it click Lola Maie!” He yelled through the metal door. The command in his voice brooked no argument and with a shaking hand she reached out and turned the deadbolt. After such a warm night of intimacy, having the cold hard door between them felt deeply wrong.

“Good. Now wait for me, baby. I’ll be back”

Lola Maie’s heart squeezed listening as the thunder of his steps became more and more faint as he ran. Until finally there was silence. It was the worst sound she’d ever heard.

#AuthorSpotlight – Cowboy’s Break by @LexiPost #Western #Romance

cowboys-break-cover

Cowboy and former detective Vance Gallagher never thought he’d have a second chance to convince Rachel Henderson they were meant to be together, nor did he think he’d want to. Now, after seven years, thanks to his old police academy friend, Vance is knee deep in numbers and computers, determined to save Rachel’s ranch and his own heart.

Rachel hadn’t expected to see Vance again…ever. In fact, she planned on it. Saying goodbye to him had been the hardest thing she’d ever done, but she couldn’t handle her sister, the ranch, and his job as an undercover detective all at the same time. Now she’s with him every day and buried feelings just won’t go away.

The closer Vance gets to solving the mystery of the missing money, the more convinced he becomes that Rachel is the one for him. But when prize animals start disappearing, he has to choose between revealing the culprit and keeping the woman he’s always loved from harm. He just can’t catch a break.

EXCERPT
Rachel Henderson sucked in her breath as the door to the diner opened and a tall cowboy strode in. What the hell was Vance Gallagher doing here?

His chiseled jaw and boyish good looks hid a mature man of strong character and confidence. She knew better than anyone exactly how experienced and loyal he was.

“Rachel? What are you looking at?” Hunter McKade waved his hand in front of her eyes. He was a family friend that went back as far as her first tricycle and he effectively pulled her attention away from the man scanning the crowd.

She turned her head in the futile hope Vance wouldn’t see her. “Nothing. Just people coming and going.”

Her answer wasn’t nearly clever enough for Hunter. The man had been in Afghanistan and a police officer before that. He could tell right away she lied.

Hunter looked over his shoulder and around the wall behind him. “Vance! Over here.”

As he waved, Rachel’s stomach turned over and her mouth went dry. She couldn’t do this. “He’s the friend you said could help me?” Her voice rose to a much higher pitch than normal.

Hunter turned back toward her. “Yes. Vance Gallagher is the best there is when it comes to detective work that involves finances.” He paused. “Are you okay? You’ve lost your tan in three seconds.” He paused again, studying her. “Do you know Vance?”

She grabbed her purse. “I think it’s the creamer. I’m going to the restroom.” She slid out of the booth they occupied and stood. Vance was barely ten feet away and he stopped as recognition dawned.

“Rachel?” His baritone voice sent memories kaliedoscoping through her mind.

She spun around and strode to the ladies room, her heart beating a two-step in her chest as she expected his hand to clamp down on her shoulder at any moment and stop her. Pulling open the bathroom door, she glanced back as it closed.

Vance stood rock still where she’d left him.

She locked the door and walked to the sink, her breathing ragged from her surprise. Running the water, she scooped it up and rinsed her face. As the water dripped off, she looked in the mirror.

“You need to get a hold of yourself, woman.” She snorted. “As if that’s gonna happen.”

Vance Gallagher was the only man she’d ever loved…still loved. And it hadn’t been that superficial love based on his warm brown eyes, dark brown hair and toned physique. She’d broken both their hearts over seven years ago when he’d worked for the Austin police force.

He’d gone into a deep and dangerous undercover operation and after almost three months of worrying and wondering if he was alive, she’d known she couldn’t live like that. She’d embarrassed both of them by repeatedly going to his chief and asking if he’d heard anything.

“You were a weak, pathetic girl, Rachel Henderson.” She grabbed a couple paper towels and wiped her face and hands. While Vance was undercover, her father had died of a heart attack, her mother was diagnosed with stage-four cancer and her sister had become pregnant at the ripe age of seventeen.

When Vance finally emerged from the operation, it had been a full six months. He’d come to her expecting a happy reunion, but she couldn’t do it. He’d wanted to help, but his job came first. He was good at his job and she hadn’t wanted him to have to choose. “Yup, you made the decision for him, didn’t you? That’s what every man wants, a woman who decides for him. He’s got to hate you by now.”

Her heart lurched. She thought she’d buried those feelings six feet under, but obviously there wasn’t enough dirt in all of Daisy Creek to keep them repressed.

She still loved him. He’d accepted her for who she was, a rancher’s daughter, no more, no less.

“You’re an idiot.” She scowled at herself in the mirror. “The most noble, good-hearted cowboy in all of central Texas and you kicked him out of your life. Good job.” And now, that man was here because her childhood friend had called him to help her. Her!

“Nice, this should go well. Hi, Vance. Sorry about breaking your heart. Now could you help me save my ranch?”

She looked at her purse sitting on the sink counter, the insufficient funds notice folded up inside. She’d called Hunter’s mom to find out where he was and had been surprised to discover his wife had died and he was living with a woman and working at a nudist resort in Arizona. She hadn’t seen that coming. But if anyone could help her, she’d known he could.

Hunter arrived and looked over what she had. When he said he had a friend nearby from his police academy days who had specialized in financial investigations, she breathed a lot easier. She couldn’t lose her ranch. It and her sister were all she had left of her family.

Now she could barely get air past her lungs. She didn’t want to face Vance again. Already the feelings she had for him were floating toward the top, cresting over the walls she’d built around her heart.

She had a decision to make. Face him and save her ranch or ditch his help and try to manage on her own. The problem was, if Hunter couldn’t figure it out after looking over everything for the last three days then how could she?

She had to save the ranch. That was her mantra since she called Hunter. It was the only stability she had and she worked hard through everything to hold on to it. Her sister, though not at the ranch every day, called it home. Crystal had helped to keep it from bankruptcy once before because she loved it.

“You told Hunter you’d do anything to keep it.” She frowned at herself. “So are you still the weak pathetic girl from seven years ago?” She nodded at herself. “No, you’re not. Now go out there and face your issues head on.”

Right. She stared hard at herself before noticing she’d plastered tiny strands of her blonde hair across her forehead and she had a piece of hay stuck on her sleeve. Impatiently, she pushed her hair back into place and threw the hay in the trash.

Other than that, she looked pretty much the same as the last time she saw Vance.

She shrugged. “What’s it matter. You’re not going on a date. He already knows you have no waist, too-long legs and an ass that’s bigger than it should be. Stop stalling.”

Giving herself a final scowl in the mirror, she picked up her purse and moved to the door. You can do this. She could accept Vance’s help if he was willing to give it. He would be working with Hunter, after all, and not her.

She opened the door and halted. What if he hated her? She gripped the handle as her stomach roiled. Please don’t hate me.

Maybe he would refuse to help. Or maybe Vance had much better things to do than help an old girlfriend who had dumped him. A man’s ego could only take so much.

She swallowed the lump in her throat. She could play “what if” all day, but all she had to do is walk a hundred feet and get her questions answered. Slowly, she released the door and walked toward the table.

Vance’s heart lurched as he gazed into Rachel’s blue eyes for a second, her face unchanged over the years except for a darker tan, her skin still satiny, and her chin still stubborn.

Then she walked away from him…again. Her hips swaying and her pale blonde braid swishing right and left with her gait.

His gut twisted. Was she married now? Did she have a husband and children who helped her with Yellowwood Ranch? Was the man of her heart easier to “handle” than him? Anger rushed over him and he gritted his teeth.

Finally, he turned to look at Hunter, who stood studying him. Damn, he hoped the investigation wasn’t about Rachel’s husband cheating on her. His hands fisted of their own accord.

“So are you going to give an old friend a welcome or just stand there like a statute all day?” Hunter’s lips quirked up at the corner.

Vance relaxed his hands and gave his friend a one-armed hug. When they parted, he shook his head. “Wow, you are just full of surprises.”

“I hadn’t planned on that. So you know Rachel?” Hunter motioned to the empty seat across from him and sat.

“Yes.” Vance slid into the booth.

Hunter raised his brow. “That’s it?”

“Tell you what, you tell me why you’re dressed like Johnny Cash and I’ll tell you about Rachel.”

Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

This was my favorite Ren yet. Ren is taken out of his comfort zone and going on a vacation with Dahlia, Adelaide, and Lucien with one drawback he cannot dream travel to their destination. I saw a new side of Ren in this book but don’t get me wrong his snarkiness was still there. Watching the interactions between Ren and Adelaide and then Adelaide and Lucien was amazing and heartwarming.

The adventures they go on are nothing short of hilarious and eye-opening. To see what Ren went through to make Dahlia happy had me laughing. As you know Ren is not an outdoors family vacation type guy but he does it for Dahlia. All I can say is look out for goats and strange old women. I was cracking up through this.

In true Sarah Noffke fashion she does toss in a twist that had my heart hurting but all in all this was great to see the bond Ren built with Dahlia, Adelaide, and Lucien and the bond between Adelaide and Lucien. I really would like more of Ren but if this is the end it was a great trip.

EXCERPT

There are some things guaranteed to stay imprinted on a woman’s brain for the rest of her life.

First kiss? Check.

First love? Double check.

First sexual experience? Triple check.

First glimpse of her boss’s naked ass? Quadruple check, and Lord have mercy.

Hypnotized by the spectacle taking place right before her eyes, Kaitlin Cross white-knuckled the kitchen counter and swallowed hard. On the other side of the window, Ford Beckett—the number one source of her daily frustration and desire to drink—stretched his arms over his head and twisted his broad shoulders a smidge to the right, his rock hard glutes and sleek back muscles flexing. He repeated the motion, this time to the left.

So help her God, if he bent to touch his toes she’d be done for. Dead on arrival. Shock paddles wouldn’t revive her.

Every inch of him was absolute Grade A bronzed perfection. Not a single tan line anywhere. Despite that mouthwatering fact, in the nearly five years she’d been working as his PA she’d never once seen him sunbathe in the nude. Until today.

She should look away. For her sake, not Ford’s. The shameless devil wouldn’t give a flying squirrel’s butt about her ogling his ass. He’d shown off a hell of a lot more than his firm tush in the dozens of XXX-rated films he’d starred in before moving out of the spotlight and starting his own production company. Knowing him, he’d probably turn around and flash the whole monty if he suspected she was peeping on him. Thank God he didn’t—

Cursing under her breath as he pivoted, she quickly sidled toward the cupboards. Close call. A loud splash a few seconds later announced his dive into the pool. Deciding to risk it, she peeked toward the window just as he surfaced. He slicked back his glossy sable hair and glanced toward the house. Even from this distance she could make out the wicked sparkle in his eyes and the wolfish hint of his teeth.

Sonofabitch. He’d set her up with this peep show. She’d bet her entire month’s salary on it. This little stunt went right in line with the numerous ways he’d been messing with her lately. For the last month and a half he’d jumped on every conceivable opportunity to tease and torment her. It’d all started that damn day she’d lost her cool and pushed him into the pool. Instead of accepting her threat that she was finally quitting for good, he’d hauled her into the pool with him. Then, in his eternal quest to ruffle her feathers and throw her off balance, the goddamn maniac kissed her.

Worst of all? She couldn’t stop thinking about the hot pressure of his lips against hers. Jeez Louise, it hadn’t even been that great of a kiss. Barely lasted a second. But that solitary second tipped her world off kilter. Although he hadn’t tried to kiss her since, every once in a while she’d catch him looking at her a certain way. Like he was not only considering it, but planned to thoroughly annihilate her equilibrium in the process.

God save her if that happened.

She wanted to believe she could hold her shit together and resist him. She was not a weak woman, for crying out loud. But Ford Beckett was no mere mortal. The man could charm the panties off of a nun. She’d heard plenty of tales about his legendary status between the sheets. Or in his case, pretty much every venue known to mankind and accessible to a film crew. Despite her overwhelming curiosity, she deliberately refrained from watching any of his old movies—for the sake of her sanity and so she’d be able to look him in the eye every day at work. There were some things she was better off not seeing. His O face during one of his countless money shots topped high on the list. Still, it hadn’t kept certain jackwagon colleagues from sharing tidbits with her. Like apparently Ford was quite the multitasker. Not only could he please two women at once, he could do it while riding a horse. How the ever living hell was that remotely possible? Did three people even fit on a horse? Was there a midget involved? And goddamn it, no, she refused to find out.

Narrowing her eyes, she watched him swim toward the opposite end of the pool, the crystal blue water rippling in his wake.

He was up to something. And she didn’t trust him for one hot second. She grabbed her coffee mug from its perch beneath the Keurig’s dispenser and stalked in the direction of his home office. Though truthfully, she tended to think of it more as their office. She spent more time in it than he did. When you got right down to it, she spent more time in it than she did her own condo. Maybe she should move in and be done with it. But then she’d have to deal with Ford 24/7. She barely resisted the urge to strangle him as it was. For sure she’d be in some major trouble if she lived in the same house with him. Not to mention she’d have no reprieve from the pesky, inappropriate fantasies he stirred in her. The ones that didn’t involve potential murder charges being brought against her. She could handle those other kind. It was the ones that left her aroused and in need of a serious session with her vibrator that proved hazardous to her wellbeing.

Bad enough having sinful thoughts about her boss. The fact that her boss was Ford—a man who had longer relationships with the ham sandwich he had for lunch that any woman he slept with? Yeah, she should have her head examined.

Or better yet, find a guy to end her seven-month dry spell. That had to be her problem. Since breaking up with Russ, she’d put entirely no effort into dating. Partly that was due to the crazy production schedule with Ford’s newest project. The spicy, adults-only show was doing better than any of them predicted, earning the coveted title of most-watched late night series on the air for their network—something they were all ecstatic about. But the show’s success also came with the price of none of them having a life for the last few months.

Now that they were on their mid-season hiatus? She was getting laid. Plain and simple. And taking a damn vacation. Hell, she’d get laid on vacation. No strings attached. No awkward morning after. No having to see the guy again. Freakin’ perfect. Best part of all? A whole week of not being subjected to Ford’s ass—naked or otherwise—tempting her with impure thoughts.

Pumping her fist, she walked into their office…and stalled short when she spotted his camo PJ bottoms draped across her seat. Approaching the garment with all the caution she would a crouched lion, she inched forward and pinched the dangled leg between her fingertips. Oh Lord. The flannel was still warm from his body. And she didn’t have to press the fabric to her nose to get a good whiff of the woodsy body wash that constantly killed her concentration whenever he insisted on crowding into her personal space. Which was pretty much every other second. It was impossible to focus when his bigger-than-life presence invaded her senses. To add fuel to the fire, she always dredged up the craziest scenarios in those situations. Especially when they were in the office together.

The fantasy her twisted subconscious loved to latch onto? Ford spanking her. If he tried such a thing in real life she’d go ballistic on his ass. Seriously, the only way they’d recognize him afterward would be through his dental records. But for some reason her mind insisted on going there. She could see it too clearly.

He’d do something to piss her off—because hello, that was damn well guaranteed—and she’d rip into him. Instead of cocking that infuriating grin of his that always made her teeth grind, he’d plunk down in his chair calm as can be and tug her across his lap. Before she could cuss him out properly, his palm would land on her butt with enough sting to earn her gasp. She’d squirm to avoid the paddling, but the movement only made things worse by rubbing her crotch against his thigh. Within seconds, her clit would be at attention, tingling and greedy for more intense friction. Desperate to ignore the traitorous demands of her body, she’d bite her lip, killing her whimpers before they ratted her out. Little good it did. Somehow Ford knew precisely how her body betrayed her, and being the devil he was, he intended to take advantage of it.

Without saying a word, he’d yank up her skirt and massage her reddened buttcheek through the lace of her panties before sliding his hand inside. His touch on her bare skin? Indescribably sinful and forbidden. She shouldn’t, but she wanted more than the lazy glide of his fingertips across her rear-end. She craved a bolder caress, down where she ached for it most. As if he’d read her mind, he’d trail his hand lower, tracing the crack of her ass, and then gliding his fingers along her pussy. By that time she’d be embarrassingly drenched, and the bastard would let her know it in no uncertain terms, swirling through her wetness so that the air would be thick with the incriminating slick sounds of her arousal. All the while he played with her, the hard bulge poking into her belly taunted her, promising even more exquisite pleasures to come. All she had to do was reach down and—

“Damn, darlin’. Next time wait ‘til I’m in my flannels before you start fondlin’ them.”

Melinda's Review

I received this book for an honest review.

This right here was phenomenal!!I dove into this and Cook and Carmen captivated me from the start. They had chemistry from the first time they saw each other and Cook could read Carmen like an open book. HE always knew what she wanted and needed. Ok OK let me start from the beginning.

Carmen had it all college, sorority sisters, and a boyfriend that was the one. Well so she thought until her heart was crushed by said boyfriend and sorority sister. With the help of her BFF (AKA FB stalker) from home she found out her ex was not in an MC and had “brothers”. So turnabout is fair play and Carmen has masterminded a brilliant plan (or so she thinks). What is that plan you ask that right she is going to sleep with all his brothers. Fair is fair since he slept with her sisters. Plan A turns into Plan B and she enlists the help of bartender Kat. However, there is one thing Carmen didn’t take into account for and that was meeting Prospect Cook.

Cook is amazing he knows everything that is going on around him and keeps to himself. He gets Carmen to open up and may find things out on his own but he doesn’t share about himself much. Carmen is falling for Cook but he is a Prospect and she needs to be with officers to make her plan work. OH Boy does Carmen have a lot to learn about the MC world.

I found myself laughing even snorting a few times. Carmen’s antics to get under her ex’s skin or maybe even Cook’s was hilarious. Never knew what you would get when Carmen showed up at the bar, sass, seductive, grungy just off work or even maybe Kmart mom LOL. I have to say I absolutely loved her PJ’s but the best was what she does when Cook give her permission to wear something sexy.  Her sass was the best and how could you not fall in love with her. I also enjoyed seeing her ‘friendship’ with Kat and her interactions with the brothers and even the women. I have to say her dates were the best and the after dates were even better.

I cannot wait to read more of Kim Jones MC’s. She has a way of drawing me in and not wanting to do anything until the last word is read and then I try to keep turning the page even if it says 100% at the bottom.
