#WOTR18 #AuthorSpotlight – Attending Author Laura Hawks @AuthorLHawks

Laura Hawks

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Ms. Hawks has always been interested in writing in some form or other. A few years back, she was involved with and then ran a Star Trek Interactive Writing Group which was successful for a number of years. Yes, she is a trekker and proud of it.

A few years back, she received her Master’s Degree in Ancient Civilizations, Native American History and United States History.

It was at this time she got involved in role playing on FaceBook, which gave her ample opportunities to grow and hone her writing ability.

Today she has several books out, including the Demon Trilogy, a couple of stand alone’s and a non-fiction souvenir book on the Balconies of New Orleans. She recently wrote a Suspense/Thriller which is her second non-paranormal book.

She lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her three companions, all males… cats. She travels as much as she can to various Author/Reader conventions and loves to meet established fans and make new ones, some of which she considers friends more than fans

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve always been writing in some form or other… first as part of and then running a Star Trek writers group, then as a newspaper journalist, a role playing writers group and finally as a published author. I started writing books because of published friends in my writing group insisted I send work to a publisher. They liked it and the rest is history. I was first published for a novel in 2012.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward, Graham Masterston and Suzannah Daniels

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

How much you have to market and how much I hate editing.

What are you working on now?

The third in the Spirit Walker’s Saga (Paranormal Romantic Suspense) and the second in Shattered Fairytales (This time working on a corruption of the Little Mermaid). Also getting ready to start a new YA paranormal series.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

Mostly a pantser, but I do plot out notes.

#WOTR18 #AuthorSpotlight – Attending Author Dawn Brower @1DawnBrower

Dawn Brower

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

USA Today Bestselling author, DAWN BROWER writes both historical and contemporary romance. There are always stories inside her head; she just never thought she could make them come to life. That creativity has finally found an outlet.

Growing up she was the only girl out of six children. She is a single mother of two teenage boys; there is never a dull moment in her life. Reading books is her favorite hobby and she loves all genres.

When and Why did you start to write?

Fall of 2013. I started to write because my stepsister dared me to. I’ve been a writing fiend ever since.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

I read things across all genres. I have a deep appreciation for the written word. Recently I just finished reading The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series (well the two books that are currently available.) by Hailey Edwards. The way she strings words together is pure magic–like brushstrokes that paint a picture in your imagination. If you like urban fantasy you should definitely check out her work.

I also love Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, Nalini Singh and Sherrilyn Kenyon. My go-to authors in historical are Tessa Dare, Julia Quinn, and Johanna Lindsay. Contemporary I like Jaci Burton, Avery Flynn, and Carrie Ann Ryan to name a few.

I have almost everything Lexi Blake has written in audiobook–but I haven’t had time to listen to them. A good friend of mine loves her and I plan on giving her a go next. At least before RT in Reno because I’m sitting on a panel with her and I’d like know something about her work before then, lol.

Basically I read anything…

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

That I can still do it. Each time I sit down to start a new book I think that I can’t possibly finish a whole book, and yet, I do. It amazes me each and every time.

What are you working on now?

I just finished writing Earl of Harrington and sent it off to my editor. It’s part of this huge coordinated release with 11 other authors. The series is The Wicked Earls’ Club. Next I’m writing the final Heart’s Intent book which will release early summer.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

Mostly pantster with a little plotter tossed in.

#WOTR18 #AuthorSpotlight – Attending Author Amy Hale @AuthorAmyHale

Amy Hale

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Amy Hale and I’m the mother of two amazing young adults who bring so much joy to my life. I’ve been happily married to the love of my life for almost 27 years. We currently reside in Illinois and are owned by one very self-absorbed cat named Jasmine. My husband and I are motorcycle enthusiasts and love to ride in our spare time. When we aren’t on the open road we enjoy watching Mystery Science Theatre 3000, spending time with the kids, and daydreaming about taking a seaside vacation.

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve been making up stories and poems since childhood. I started writing professionally in 2003. I worked for various online magazines and websites in the health and diet industry. I also had a popular blog on similar health topics. I moved to writing fiction in 2014, with my first book debuting in January of 2015. Writing heartfelt and exciting stories for a living has been a lifelong dream of mine. I’ve always loved the way the written word can bring the imagination to life.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

Just a few of my one-click authors include Julia Quinn, Denise Grover Swank, Eric Asher, Jamie McGuire, & Colleen Hoover.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

I’m always surprised at how a story will take on a life of its own as you write. You can plot it all out and then suddenly a character or situation changes things and you’re being pulled into a totally new direction. I’m often as surprised by the twists and turns as my readers are.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on my latest Havenwood Falls NA novella titled Flames Among the Frost.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I’m a plantser – I do both. I start my stories with a beginning and ending in mind. Then I pants it for a while until I get a feel for how the story will progress. As I near the middle I start plotting out the general ideas for each chapter to assure I’m staying on track. I really like letting the characters lead the way, but it helps to have some organization too.

#WOTR18 #AuthorSpotlight – Attending Author AD Ellis @ADEllisAuthor

A.D. Ellis

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

A.D. Ellis I’m a mom, wife, inner city teacher, and author. I enjoy reading, writing, napping, and teaching myself to crochet. I love spending time with my friends, laughing, eating, tasting new sweet red wines. I’m pretty much addicted to chocolate and hot tea.

When and Why did you start to write?

I started a story in October of 2013 while on Fall Break at my parents’ house. I had been thinking of the story for a while and just decided to see if I could do it. That story (For Nicky) was published in April of 2014 and, nineteen books later, I guess you could say I was bitten by the writing bug.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

My local writer peeps: TC Winters, Jillian Jacobs, Anya Breton, Ava Cuvay, Lori Wood, Cheryl Brooks, Donya Lynne, Lisa Caviness, Roxy Mews, Aly Grady, Melanie Jayne, Aleatha Romig….the list goes on and is a LONG one, but I have very talented writer friends right here in Indiana!
In my male/male genre, I love Kaje Harper, Missy Welsh, Finn Marlowe, Keira Andrews, Kay Simone, Ella Frank, Riley Hart, Felice Stevens…seriously, I could fill this entire page with my friends and fellow male/male romance genre writers.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

It’s not concrete. Some days things work, some days they don’t. Words will flow one day and refuse to come the next. The process I used for one book may not be the same as I use for another. Ideas pop into my head at the weirdest times. Sometimes I go back to those ideas and they become great stories, other times they sit and marinate, or maybe they never go anywhere at all.
For me, the writing process is very fluid.

What are you working on now?

At the moment of writing this interview, I’m working on the third (last) book in my Blueridge Junction Boys (The BJ Boys) series titled Bound to Fight.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I am a pantser who likes to have a bit of a plan. Or a plotter who enjoys when pantsing happens. Really, I can’t start a book without SOME sort of plan, but most of my stories unfold during the actual writing.

#spotlight #PromoBlitz #Renegade #Traitor #ShannonMyers #OneClickIt – Renegade & Traitor, Renegade Series Book 1 & 2 by Shannon Myers

Renegade (Renegade: Book 1)

Mike-
I may wear a badge, but I haven’t been on the right side of the law in years.
There’s no coming back from the things that I’ve done. I’m cut from the same cloth as my old man and guys like us- we don’t deserve second chances. Why does she make me feel like I’m worthy of just that though?

Lauren-
My entire life had been a struggle until him.
He makes me feel like I’m someone else…someone without a past. Officers are sworn to serve and protect, but I can’t shake the feeling that he’ll be the one to destroy me.

Traitor (Renegade: Book 2)

Lauren
One box
Lives were lost and relationships destroyed because of that one box. I don’t care what the cost is, I won’t stop until I have answers. Even if it means declaring war on the detective who once had my heart.

Mike
Every war has its casualties
I was just naive enough to believe that it wouldn’t hit so close to home. There’s so much blood on my hands, that I’m guilty by association at this point. I don’t know how to keep Lauren safe without betraying the club, but I’m willing to die trying.

This book is NOT a standalone. It is the conclusion to Renegade.

Shannon is a born and raised Texan. She grew up inventing clever stories, usually to get herself out of trouble. Her mother was not amused. In junior high, she began writing fractured fairy tales from the villain’s point of view and that was the moment she knew that she was going to use her powers for evil instead of good.

In 2003, she moved to Denver and met the love of her life. After some relentless stalking and a few well-timed sarcastic remarks, the man eventually gave in to her charms and wifed her so hard. They welcomed a son in 2007 that they named after their favorite Marvel superhero, Spiderman.

Sick of seeing beautiful mountains through their window every day, the three escaped back to the desolate landscape of the west Texas desert in 2009. She welcomed her second son not long after and soon realized that being surrounded by three men was nothing at all like she’d imagined in her fantasies.

After an unplanned surgery in 2014 and a long pity party, she decided to pen a novel about the worst thing that could happen to a person in order to cheer herself up. She’s twisted like that. Thus, From This Day Forward was born and the rest, as they say, is history.

Not only does Shannon enjoy stalking people, she also has a fondness for being stalked. Visit her at www.shannonshaemyers.com to keep up with her latest schemes and shenanigans.

#AuthorSpotlight – Hell Yeah Cowboy Collision by @KandiSilvers1 #Western

cowboy-colision-cover

Former reality star, housewife Kendall Swanson, has it all. A luxury high-rise condo in Los Angeles, an expensive convertible and her job is personal assistant to television’s hottest producer. What more could a girl want? Certainly not what her boss asked of her. Go back to her small town, and for his next reality TV sensation, find the ultimate single cowboy to host the ranch “makeovers”. Faster than you can say “stuffed turkey” it’s goodbye palm trees, hello Kerrville, AKA Hell, and yes, it’s frozen over. At least on her parent’s front lawn. How bad could the holidays with her family be? Other than the reindeer in the house and Deacon Cutes being back in town.

Deacon Cutes wasn’t expecting Kendall to blow into town in an over-priced car and designer handbag. He should’ve known she’d be back, he was here for the same reason. The only reason anyone returned to the small town was for weddings, funerals and the occasional holiday. One wedding, one after party and he’d be back on the road singing country songs to star crazed fans—make that after thirty days of community service for a minor infraction.

Wait, did the reindeer just talk? Time to lay off the sauce and not the cranberry kind.

EXCERPT

“Who wants carrot cake?” The church organist offered up happily, having been excluded from the proverbial bomb dropped in the living room.

Fritz reared, his body bumping both Sadie and Kendall. The cake went up and Kendall fell back. Deacon reached out to stop her fall but instead with the momentum both went over. The cake landed as the tree crashed to the floor with a scatter of ornaments and tinsel. Garland landed on Kendall’s face. Her soft curves sandwiched between the fallen Christmas tree and Deacon’s body.

He’d be a liar to say he hadn’t pictured himself on top of her. However, no clothes and no audience had also been part of that erotic image. He removed the garland from her and stared down into her eyes. From where he was laying, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize their bodies fit together perfectly. His groin stirred as his chest experienced her breasts coming against him hard with the shallow breaths leaving her lungs.

A flicker of anger crossed her features and she gritted her teeth. “Considering the tree is under me,” she whispered in seething temper. “I highly doubt that is a branch poking into my hip.”

Of all the comments and of all the girls he could have been in the situation with, he couldn’t think of one he’d rather be pressed against. The scent of her became damn near intoxicating and it took every ounce of strength not to kiss her senseless. He leaned in close to her ear and purposely blew warm breath against her skin. “It’s not a branch, baby, but most definitely wood.”

She hissed and struggled to get up slapping him lightly, which induced him to laugh. “I hate you, Deacon!”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

kandi-silvers-pic

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, I still call Sin City home. I’ve always been a sucker for romance novels and movies, especially romantic comedies. Writing is more than just words to me it’s captivating slices of characters’ lives and sharing them with the reader. I’m a firm believer that heroes and heroines had a life before page one of any story and their past as well as life experiences, made them who they are.

Coming from the southwest I have a major soft spot for cowboys, but also love suspense, a bit of intrigue and kick-ass heroines. Of course, there is always the time to slip in a good paranormal. I try to keep my writing diverse and always on the naughty side.

Happy reading!

“Nice ink you’ve got there.” He gestured towards the half sleeve she had on her right arm and she couldn’t help but smile.

“Thanks, I love my art on the body and off of it.” She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before she opened them again. It had been a long day. “Do you have any?”

“Tattoos?” He lifted his eyebrow and smirked. “One, but I’d have to take off some clothing for anyone to see it.”

Damn it! He’s flirting. “Jagger.” Sawyer said as if she was exasperated with him already, but secretly she was really wondering where on that delicious body of his it was located. Not that she’d ever admit that out loud or anything.

“That’s my name. Speaking of, I never did get yours,” he said just as they’d reached her car.

“Uh huh, now if I gave you that the mystery would be over.” Her keys jangled as she grabbed them from her pocket, but Jagger leaned against the driver side door before she could open it. “And, right now I’m still unsure if you’d like what I had to say. Best to play it safe I think.” She took a step forward hoping he’d take the hint and move out of her way but the stubborn stud wasn’t budging.

“I don’t know any man who doesn’t like a challenge sweetheart and I will figure you out. So consider me intrigued.” He smiled and stood straighter. “Now, how much have you had to drink?”

“What?” she asked totally taken off guard by the question. “I am not drunk.” Hell, it had taken her over an hour to finish her first beer, and she hadn’t even finished her second one.

“Let me be the judge of that.” He held his hand out and wiggled his fingers. “I have a feeling we’ve met before I just can’t seem to place it yet, and if that’s the case you know I’m a decent guy. So I think maybe you should pass me your keys and I’ll make it my duty to get you home safely.”

“Absolutely not!” she said and gripped them tighter.

“You need references darlin’? If so, feel free to march back inside and get as many as you need. I know almost everyone inside including the owner,” he said and waited.

Sawyer was in complete shock. In fact, so much so, her mouth was literally hanging open. Of all the nerve…wow. She fidgeted and then narrowed her eyes at him. “There’s no need. I appreciate your concern but I’m perfectly capable of taking myself home.”

He chuckled in response and then crossed his arms. The smooth tan skin and bulging muscles of his forearms distracted her and she muttered another curse under her breath when she looked back up to his face and he winked. Busted!

“Humor me.” He repeated, “Are you always this pigheaded or is all of it reserved just for me tonight?” He held out his hand again. “Come on just consider this some good old southern hospitality. You get home safely and I feel better about it.”

“Fine, it’s not like I’ve been given any other choice.” She handed him her keys and stomped her feet as she made her way to the passenger side. “Stubborn? Huh!” She huffed. “Takes one to know one.”

“It’s all just part of the package.” He teased. Once they were inside and all buckled up he turned towards her. “Now were to.”

Sawyer gulped as she looked into those hypnotizing green eyes of his and knew that she was royally screwed. Because the moment she gave him the address to her folks place he’d know exactly who she was and that might not be a good thing.

“Maybe we can help each other,” she said looking up at him. He didn’t know what she had in mind but listened to find out.

“I’m a single mom. I don’t have a steady man because I don’t want one hanging around my two kids who are right now with my mom. She doesn’t babysit often and aside from Marcie, I don’t leave them with anyone else. I have a full-time life that includes a job and no time for a relationship. ”

“And?” He squeezed her shoulders, urging her to make an offer he wasn’t going to refuse regardless of what it was.

“And—I have certain biological needs I’d like to satisfy with something other than plastic.” She closed her eyes, her blush denying the intimacies they’d just enjoyed at the same time her hand stroked his thigh, promising more.

“Well as to those biological needs—seems like we can find a way to get them satisfied. When you’ve got the time, I’ll find the place.” He pulled up next to her car and put the truck in park, idling in front of her sister’s house, waiting for Kiley’s answer.

When she remained mute, he decided coaxing was in order.  “You do the calling,” he said, switching on his truck’s overhead light to search in the glove compartment for paper.

“I’d just as soon the whole town not know we’re carrying on,” Kiley murmured, her blush turning her pink cheeks to ruby.

“Carrying on?” After the uninhibited fucking they’d just engaged in, her old-fashioned description made him smile.

His quick rummaging turned up no paper, so before shutting off the overhead light, he held her hand and wrote his number on her palm. “If you change your mind and don’t call, it’s okay. I’ll not bother you. If you do call, I’ve marked your number a TF.”

“TF?”

“That’s military speak for taboo frequency—a contact too important to miss. You call when you’re able to get free and I’ll make sure we get together.”

He let her get half out the door before he added his last addendum to their deal.  “As to the plastic, you might want to bring it along for a ride or two. No sense in letting it feel neglected.” He liked a little variety in the sheets and he figured he’d let her know up front, he wasn’t all vanilla. He had a feeling neither was she.

EXCERPT

He blew out a breath and offered a congenial smile, along with the truth. “I have to confess, Doc, I don’t believe in ghosts and all that mumbo-jumbo.” He crooked his fingers for emphasis. “I mean, yes, I know there are stories. But in my experience, the majority are just stories that you tell around a campfire on Halloween.” He hated to sound like a condescending ass, but he felt she should know where he stood.

“If you’re finished?” She handed him a mini-video camcorder. “Turn on the night-vision button and you should be able to see everything quite clearly in the dark.”

“But I just said…”

She tucked a small transistor-looking device in her pocket and held a miniature walkie-talkie in her hand. She jabbed a small flashlight in her mouth as she zipped up her hoodie.

Nash thought his heart might stop altogether at the sight of her perfect pink lips enclosed over the end of the flashlight.

He blinked as she jerked the flashlight out of her mouth and pointed it at him. “Mr. Walker, please understand. Your inability—your refusal, even—to believe in the existence of the paranormal has no bearing whatsoever on whether it exists or not. They don’t need your permission.” She shook the light at him. “In my world, in my experiences, paranormal activity certainly does exist.” She strode to the door and opened it. “Now, shall we go? All I ask is that you follow me and keep the camera running. Do you think you can manage that?”

Nash chuckled. Glasses and bossy. Could this get any better? He sure as hell hoped it would. He trotted down the steps after her, quietly humming the tune of the movie that brought ghost hunting back to life, so to speak. He was about to sing the chorus when she stopped suddenly and spun to face him. He lifted the camera, avoiding disaster as his body slammed into hers.

She pressed up on her toes, pushing her face into his. “One more wise-crack, Mr. Walker, and I may have to use my magic to put a spell on your dick.”

“Sorry.” He smiled. Little did she know she already had.
