#Review – Dark Dreams and Dead Things (Dead Things #2) by Martina McAtee

Dark Dreams and Dead Things (Dead Things, #2)

17-year-old November Lonergan spent her whole life feeling like an outsider. She was right. She’s a reaper like her mother; like her two cousins, Kai and Tristin. The supernatural world believes they are part of a prophecy to save them from an evil known as the Grove. Ember just wants to survive high school and fix the fallout from bringing back her friend.

Old enemies are lurking; waiting for their opportunity to strike but the pack has a new problem. A group of legendary hunters has resurfaced, threatening the reapers and anybody who stands with them. They are making good on their threats too; attacking those closest to the pack.

Their only hope of defeating the Legionaries involves trusting a stranger to perform a dangerous spell to advance Ember and her cousin’s powers. But Ember has a secret; a secret she can’t tell the pack. One that leaves the pack vulnerable.

An attack on pack allies, leaves one member of the group injured and another missing, along with a mysterious girl named Evangeline who may play a bigger part in this than any of them realize. As the Legionaries are closing in, the pack must trust their enemies, enter hostile territories, and play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a psychopath. Their entire plan lynches on a dangerous bargain, but rescuing one member of the pack could mean losing another in their place…possibly forever.

It’s amazing when an author can continue a story and make it just as great, if not better, than the first. Martina, my hat’s off to you! After reading the first I just had to know what happened. I didn’t realize how addicting this story was until I finished the first… and the second…then had nowhere to go (bring on book 3!). This story is still witty and funny but, as the title indicates, it is dark. I felt like it’s about finding a way to fight the monsters you can’t see. Ember and the crew have experienced it all. Knife fights, blood rituals, and deaths. Or at least they thought they did. Then you throw a prophecy in the midst of the craziness and all the freaks come out! While Ember and her cousins are trying to figure out what exactly they are themselves and how to harness their power, they now have to prepare for a war that they didn’t realize they were part of. It seems all they can get is a bunch of half-truths, but in true paranormal fashion the fight is on! And of course we have some new characters! It’s very Mace-centric! In the first book Mace is our resident bad guy, but kinda good, maybe, lol! But he is also very mysterious and we never really get a good look at what happened to him or what his story was. Well he is the bad guy I just had to know more about. Thank the gods Martina gives us his backstory! It explains soooo much about him. And Silas, well he is very special, the kind you love to hate to love. He is a new constant in the story that will keep you trying to figure out his angle. As with the first story this one is very intense but it is darker. It is nail biting, keep you on the edge of your seat, suspenseful reading. I can’t say much about what happens because there are so many twists and turns and I don’t want to give anything away. Absolute intense sequel and soooooo good! Definite must read! I can’t wait for the next!

#Review – The Vilka’s Captive (Shifters Of Kladuu #3) by Pearl Foxx

The Vilka's Captive (Shifters of Kladuu, #3)

She risked everything to save her sister.

Now she’ll need his help to survive an alien planet she never could have imagined.

Nestan hasn’t seen his people in six months. Trapped in his father’s new pack of rebel Vilkas, he is beaten, starved, and ridiculed for his loyalty to the Alpha his father murdered. All the best parts of him are stripped away, and he is becoming more beast than man. Until a human woman arrives to camp with beautiful curves and a constant smile. Before she is sold to another clan, they escape into the wilderness of Kladuu with enemies at their heels and the only home Nestan has ever known far, far away.

This is book three and Nestan’s story. Nestan is the son of Savas who is dealing in the flesh trade which involves trading human women for pleasure/slavery. When Savas went rogue he continued the flesh trade and took his son, Nestan, with him. Nestan has never agreed with his father’s ways and has always ended up a punching bag or someone to talk down to. Linnea is a human and stows away on a flesh trading ship to try and find her sister. When she is brought to the camp things get really intense. Linnea and Nestan face some trials with each other and were jailed together in Savas’s camp. Things get complicated….They escape but help a Draqon baby that was imprisoned too. This trio is then on the run in the jungle trying to get back to his Vilkan pack to give warning about the incident. Along the way they are faced with many obstacles but this trio just works. I love the world of Kladuu and the characters in the books. This book has a lot of diversity and how this diversity is overcome is truly incredible. The story is fast paced, action packed, and steamy but with a lot of real life struggles that most people face every day. I am truly enamored with these characters and this world. While this story gets pretty deep on an emotional level there is the perfect amount of wit, laughter and steaminess in there as well. One of my favorite lines near the beginning is “Shape-shifting wolfmen were hard enough to swallow, but this is like some kind of ridiculous fantasy novel.” And it doesn’t stop here. The best part about this couple is they find a purpose within themselves with each other. I’m loving this series!

#WOTR18 #MagicAndMayhemWorld #Paranormal Wicked *itch by Teresa Gabelman

What do tattoos, witches, vampires, a sexy shifter, and an earring-wearing cat have in common…? Definitely something WICKED!

Being a woman in the tattoo business isn’t easy, but Wicked makes it work. But being a witch with a headbanging, rock ‘n’ roll familiar, and having a sexy panther shifter as a landlord makes life… interesting. Throw in some vampire warriors and a whole town of shifters, and things are bound to get a little crazy.

Drop in and visit the town of Assjacket for this wickedly hilarious mixture of paranormal personalities.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book.

Gableman has once again given us a strong woman to root for with Wicked, it doesn’t hurt that she also gives us a hottie of a shifter with Thorne McAllister.
On the outskirts of Assjacket, Virginia, yes you heard that right Assjacket, there is a tattoo parlor run by a witch name Wicked. Along with her familiar, a sarcastic rock and roll loving cat named Bruce, she runs her shop and sticks to herself. After all that’s the way it’s been all her life.
Once her shop was actually in the town, but since its a shifter town and a lot of human’s don’t come to it she moved so that she would have more customers. She also moved so that no one in town would get her by her actions of helping a witch friend of her in need. Thorne, ah Thorne, is her yummy panther landlord. She wants to jump and tattoo that yummy panther, but she fights it.
With her last VC Warrior book Gableman introduced two new characters, sisters who are witches and now she has given us another.
I laughed my butt off with this story. Bruce keeps Wicked on her toes and when the VC Warrior Steve comes to town I really couldn’t contain the laughter.
Thorne is a yummy shifter that knows what he wants and what he wants is Wicked, he has wanted her from the moment he saw her, but he has a hard time convincing her of that.
This step into the Magic and Mayhem Kindle World is a awesome step for Gableman. We get strong and funny new characters and a kick a** story, one that still brings us a piece of our beloved VC Warriors.
I hope we catch another glimpse of Wicked, Thorne, and Bruce in the future.

#Review – Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things (Dead Things #1) by Martina McAtee

Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (Dead Things, #1)

17 year old Ember Denning has made an art of isolating herself. She prefers the dead. She spends her days skipping school in old cemeteries and her nights hiding from her alcoholic father at the funeral home where she works. When her own father dies, Ember learns her whole life is a lie. Standing in the cemetery that’s been her sanctuary, she’s threatened by the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen and rescued by two people who claim to be her family. They say she’s special, that she has a supernatural gift like them…they just don’t know exactly what it is.

They take her to a small Florida town, where Ember’s life takes a turn for the weird. She’s living with her reaper cousins, an orphaned werewolf pack, a faery and a human genius. Ember’s powers are growing stronger, morphing into something bigger than anything anybody anticipated. Ember has questions but nobody has answers. Nobody knows what she is. They only know her mysterious magical gift is trying to kill them and that beautiful dangerous boy from the cemetery may be the only thing standing between her and death.

As Ember’s talents are revealed so are the secrets her father hid and those in power who would seek to destroy her. First, this cover! I mean, who wouldn’t check the book out with a cover like this?! Second, the premise of the book promises lots of supernatural and ghouls alike! I mean, duh! YES, PLEASE! I have not read a story like this before. It definitely takes the paranormal world to a new level. This story is hilarious, witty and a bit on the morbid side in a fantastical way. Ember is just a teenage girl who is trying to get through life. She has had a terrible childhood and when her alcoholic father dies her world really does turn upside down. Her life goes from complicated to unrecognizable. There is a huge amount of characters ranging from our softies to the baddies. Most have a supernatural ability. And when they are all put together the story explodes! Naturally we have many secrets that are going through the process to be revealed but most truths come with more questions. Ember is really just trying to figure herself out and when she finally finds where she is supposed to be she isn’t sure if she can live up to what everyone expects her to be. She is drawn to the dead, like a moth to a flame, and she has no idea why. What I love about this book is how the story comes to life. The author does an incredible job with bringing all of the characters into play and giving them all a voice. We get to experience the monsters, illusions, redemption, fear, doubt, jealousy….just all the feels! This is absolutely one of my new favorite books. In fact, when I finished the book I went right out and purchased the second because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! And I was not let down in the slightest. Trust me, you need to read this!

#Review – SHIFT (Mackenzie Grey #1) by Karina Espinosa

SHIFT (Mackenzie Grey: Origins, #1)

It’s hard enough being an undergraduate student, an intern at Downtown Manhattan’s police station, and a bouncer at a local bar. Add her now ex-boyfriend who recently dumped her for the school’s resident bimbo—oh, and she’s a werewolf.
Mackenzie Grey meets her match when she is kidnapped by the Brooklyn Pack and tossed between Sebastian and Jonah—the Alpha and the Beta. Being a lone-wolf in the city is dangerous, and now that the Pack has found her, so can every supernatural being in the Tri-State area. And not even her sarcastic, smart mouth can get her out of this.
When a string of kidnappings involves Mackenzie in supernatural politics, she questions her new acquaintances and finds unlikely allies. Can she escape Pack law and keep her freedom—or will she be condemned to an unwanted path?

This is such a great book! A kickass heroine who is bending all the rules and showing she can play with the big boys! I actually won this book during a book release party. I have never heard of this author but I do LOVE a good shifter book. I was a little put off at the first sentence because it starts with how her ex-boyfriend left her for a bimbo. I didn’t want the book to be a bunch of high school type stuff but I was proven wrong and very fast. Mackenzie is this college student who is a werewolf. She is not sure how it happened and has no one to talk with about this change. She has an amazing friend, Amy, who reminds me of the saying “dynamite comes in small packages”. A trio of werewolves doesn’t make her quiver. Mackenzie has a strength and confidence about her that gets her a job as a bouncer at a nightclub. She runs into the local pack and this becomes trouble. She is still trying to wrap her head around the whole mess while attempting to get answers from them about her. She is having an extremely difficult time with the pack as she is unwilling to bend to their practices and rules. There are many tough decisions, things that could scar her for life, but she takes it in stride as she understands that sometimes you have to break the rules. She is still an extremely independent woman but has to lean on someone when things continue to go awry with her ex and the kidnappings that are now involving her. This is an extremely witty and cunning story that is full of badassery. I got absolutely sucked in and could not stop until the end and even then I needed more. I will be continuing this journey of Mackenzie’s. It’s absolutely captivating. Kudos to the author!

Oh what can I even say about this? Aliens, humans, werewolves, dragons, danger, romance…..and the list goes on and on! If you are reading this review because you were pulled in by the cover then I suggest you dive right in to the story. The cover is only the beginning. The story starts off with Jude making a crash landing on an alien planet. Right from the start the heat goes up. The fighting is intense and Jude proves to be bada**. Gerritt is the Alpha of the Vilka’s and happens to be in the same area as Jude when she crashes. Right away he is smitten. He has this undeniable pull to Jude. He can’t let her out of his sight but they are driving each other completely insane! They are constantly in danger but watching each other’s back. The banter between these two characters….and our side characters….had me laughing out loud at times. It is refreshing when you have such an intense, action packed story with the perfect amount of funny and hotness. It had an incredible beginning with an amazing end. The world building makes you feel like you are on Kladuu and the characters feel real. This is such an easy read to let you escape. I couldn’t put it down and am anxiously awaiting the next installment. Bravo!

Lone Wolf Connor is in a desperate situation. Ever since the death of his mentor, the animal inside won’t stop ripping him apart and trying to take over. There’s only one way to stop Lycans who’ve lost control: death. Before that happens, he’s going to seek revenge on the very people who have turned him into a monster. All for Connor is a paranormal romance novel with over 65k words. It’s a standalone novel with HEA, hot and sexy scenes, Lycan action and no cheating. It takes place in the True Mates Universe but works as a standalone novel.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

Of the three Lone Wolf brothers, Connor is who I’ve been waiting for. There has been something that has drawn me into him since he first stepped onto the page in his sister’s book. Something beyond the beard, the brooding, and the muscles.
I knew the story of his youth was gonna be rough, but I had no idea just how rough.
Evie left her home to follow her dreams of stardom, she’s working part time as a secretary at Lone Wolf Security to help herself financially. She’s been there since the beginning and has been attracted to Connor since then.
Connor has been making sure that Evie is safe since someone was trying to kill her roommate and Owen’s fiancée Selena, he just never stopped after things were settled. There is something about her that calls to him, calms him even though he knows that he should stay away from h since his wolf is so unstable.
There is so much going on in this book!! Evie gets to work on Broadway, but with a crazy pop star that has a stalker so Creed Security is called in to help with keep the spoiled pop star safe. Well they are only called in after Connor, who’s only at the theater to watch Evie, keeps a light from falling on the pop star’s head.
Connor is trying to get revenge on the people from his childhood, a childhood full of horrors that no child should have to go through.
Evie and Connor start dating!!!! Connor finds his birth family!!!! There’s just sooooo much going on!!!!
Montgomery has done such a great job writing about how these brothers became the Lone Wolves that they are. Connor’s story is by far my favorite of the trilogy.
I am sad to see the end of the Lone Wolf family, they will be missed. If you have not read any of these books you are missing out.

#ComingSoon #Review #Shifter Destiny Disgraced (Talon Pack Book 6) by Carrie Ann Ryan

The Talon Pack continues with a new twist to the Packs and a revelation no one was prepared for.

Mitchell Brentwood is aware that others think he’s the harsh taskmaster Beta trying to keep his Pack alive, but they only see what he wants them to know. He’d once thought he had his path laid out before him, but when his future was violently ripped away, he vowed he’d never let anyone close again—especially not a young wolf from a traitorous Pack.

Dawn Levin may be younger than the war that destroyed her people, but she knows she must still pay for their sins. She’s ready to find her way in this new world where wolves and humans blend as one, but first, she needs to fight her attraction to the dark wolf that stands in her way.

While the two struggle with their feelings and burning attraction for each other, they can’t ignore the world that shakes beneath their feet. There is a new enemy on the horizon, one with revenge and the unknown on their minds. An adversary that might be closer than they realize.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

It’s been a year since the end of the war and the Unveiling things should be good for the Talon Pack, but something new is coming and it has all the packs on edge.
Mitchell is the Talon’s beta, he’s one yummy but grumpy wolf. He’s been keeping a secret from his family for years, nothing that could hurt them mind you, but it’s a secret from his family and it’s a doozy.
Dawn is a wolf from the Central pack, well they aren’t a real pack yet. She is a strong wolf who is a dominant maternal, but with know kids around she is lost.
Years ago it was the Central’s Alpha that started the war with the Redwood pack, during that war some of Central’s decided to take a chance and break away from their Alpha because they wanted no part of what he was doing. It was because of this war and the fact that the Alpha consorted with a demon that the Moon Goddess took away the pack bonds from the Central wolves that were able to escape, making them unable to mate, have new babies, and no hierarchy.
Mitchell has been helping to train the Central pack, since they can feel that soon the Moon Goddess will bless them with the pack bonds once again. He seen Dawn there and wants nothing to do with her, he also has seen her at the barista job in town and refuses to give in to the draw he feels.
Dawn thinks he’s yummy but knows he wants nothing to do with her, but that changes when she is attacked by a rogue wolf. They can deny their wolves any longer. Mitchell and Dawn realize that they have the potential to be mates, but neither is ready for a mate yet and decide to just be “friendly”. Lol.
OMG! Mitchell’s story before Dawn just killed me, talk about a tragic back story. When he tells Dawn about it, she realizes that even if she was ready to be Mitchell’s mate, he will never want a mate. It’s just crazy all around, but they finally get it together.
Ryan, promised a new big bad for us and she did not disappoint, the revelations that came out in this book came out of no where and I can’t wait to see where we go from here.

A Wolf’s Hunger is a series of standalone Shifter books each with a HEA and absolutely no cliffhangers.
Full of passion, intrigue and Paranormal Romance. Jam packed full of suspense, romance, thrills and hot Shifters.

Goodreads

The plans we have for our life and what fate has in store for us never seem the same. Love me some Mako! The pack is in the middle of a terrible situation and they are being selective in who they trust with and within their pack. Robin, a mage, pops in unexpectedly and announces that she is their new interim healer. Mako starts in with the hunger and has no idea what this new feeling is. He has found his once in a lifetime mate. The pack was burnt by their previous healer/witch so they are skeptical of Robin. Robin, being the mage that she is and growing up in a pack, doesn’t trust the wolves. Mako and Robin fight the attraction but in the midst of this there is a traitor and the pack is being attacked. This is where I leave you with what the story is about. The push and pull between Mako and Robin is unmistakably hot and romantic. This author can take these incredible characters and pull you into their world while making you feel every iota of their rage and hate, passion and love. I was sucked in from the very beginning and could not put it down. Love, love, love me some Mako!

**This is a stand alone but I recommend reading Saint first as Mako picks up right where Saint leaves off. I believe that if you read Saint first some of the backstory will have more meaning for you. **

I have been many places and done many amazing things. My motto has always been that you can choose to watch life pass you by or be the one spinning the world. You have to get out and live. Life won’t come to you!

Writing is just one of my passions that I’m lucky enough to be able to express. I also love music, reading other people’s books, but most of all spending time with my kiddos.

The characters in INK are very near and dear to my heart. Some are very closely fashioned after real people in the real world. Many of the experiences that Shay has had actually happened, of course there haven’t been any murders – oh wait there were but not like in the book. That’s a whole other series!

INK is currently slated to be a 6 book series (0-5). I hope that you enjoy INK: Fine Lines and fall in love with Aiden and Eli just like I did!

#NewRelease #Review #Shifter Loving Quinn: The Lone Wold Defenders Book 2 by Alicia Montgomery

Happy-go-lucky wolf shifter and hacker Quinn never saw the point of committing to just one person for the rest of his life. After all, with his devilish good looks and charisma, he could have any woman he wants. Any woman, except the sassy almost-witch Selena, who seems resistant to his charms. While he denies his attraction to the curvy redhead, his own animal craves her attention, and Quinn finds it difficult to stay away.

Having no magical talent meant Selena was at the bottom rung of her coven hierarchy. Mocked by her own family and pitied by the rest of her coven, she builds her own life away from them. When an offer comes that could finally give her the respect and standing she’s always wanted, it should have been easy to say yes. But a certain sexy and handsome Lone Wolf shifter has sent her into a tizzy, and she risks the chance of being welcomed back into the fold by giving into her own desires.

When Quinn’s past comes back to haunt him, it puts Selena in the line of fire and he’ll do anything to protect her. However, Selena has problems of her own and she finds herself having to choose between the life she’s always dreamed of or bet her heart on commitment-phobic Quinn. Staying together only means danger and pain, but can they really resist the attraction between them, which could end up imploding both their lives?

If you LOVE reformed playboy/virgin paranormal shifter romances, then READ this book!

Loving Quinn series is a paranormal romance novel with over 60k words. It’s a standalone novel with HEA, hot and sexy scenes, Lycan action and no cheating. It takes place in the True Mates Universe but works as a standalone novel.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

Quinn is the Techie of Lone Wolf Security, he is also known as a ladies man or in today’s vernacular a man whore. However, there is something about the best friend of the brothers secretary that he’s drawn to he is going to be the one thing he never is with a woman, her friend.
Selena Merlin is a New York librarian and witch, but she’s a witch in name only because she was born without powers much to her dismay. Being a witch without powers means she’s low man on the witches totem pole and can be banished from her coven at anytime, so she is being forced into a arranged marriage by her father. She knows what type of guy Quinn is but believes him when he says they can be friends.
First off let me say arranged marriage?? What is this Victorian England?? I get it, I really do poor Selena is having to do something for the good of her family that she doesn’t want to do, we’ve all been put in that type of situation. She’s so use to doing things for everyone else and being last in the witch world, she finds it hard to put herself first when she’s in it.
Second, friends with Quinn? Uh, yes please!!! Lol!! I love these two finding their way with each other, the LOTR movie nights are really sweet!!! When they do decide to move it into something more it kills me that they hide it from their friends, Quinn’s family, and that she hasn’t told Quinn about the marriage deal or told her father that she’s not going through with it.
Speaking of Quinn’s family, man that is one humdinger of a plot twist. Nope, these lips are zipped you’re gonna have to read it.
Oh, and someone keeps trying to kill them!!
These are the questions that you’re asking yourself as you’re reading: Are Quinn and Selena Fated Mated? Does Quinn find out about the arranged marriage? Will Selena ever put herself first? Who’s are they trying to kill Quinn, Selena, or both?
By the end i was happily wore out, and laughing my tale off at Jolene and the epilogue. I can’t wait to see what Montgomery has in store for us with Connor, i just know it’s gonna be a beast.

Alicia Montgomery has always dreamed of becoming a romance novel writer. She started writing down her stories in now long-forgotten diaries and notebooks, never thinking that her dream would come true. After taking the well-worn path to a stable career, she is now plunging into the world of self-publishing.

Sexy shifters, billionaires, alpha males, and of course, strong, sexy female characters are her favorite to write. Alicia is a wanderer, along with her husband, they travel the world and have lived in various spots all over the world.
