#Review – The Vilka’s Captive (Shifters Of Kladuu #3) by Pearl Foxx

The Vilka's Captive (Shifters of Kladuu, #3)

She risked everything to save her sister.

Now she’ll need his help to survive an alien planet she never could have imagined.

Refusing to believe her sister died during her Falconer Elite flight exam, Linnea Quincy infiltrates a flesh trading ring and is hand-delivered to an enemy camp on Kladuu. But she’s not the only captive there. Her cell-mate happens to be tall, dark, and brooding… and the son of the enemy.

Nestan hasn’t seen his people in six months. Trapped in his father’s new pack of rebel Vilkas, he is beaten, starved, and ridiculed for his loyalty to the Alpha his father murdered. All the best parts of him are stripped away, and he is becoming more beast than man. Until a human woman arrives to camp with beautiful curves and a constant smile. Before she is sold to another clan, they escape into the wilderness of Kladuu with enemies at their heels and the only home Nestan has ever known far, far away.

If they can survive Savas, the man-eating Katu, and a fire-breathing, acid-spitting Draqon baby, they may just return to the ones they love… and find each other.

This is book three and Nestan’s story. Nestan is the son of Savas who is dealing in the flesh trade which involves trading human women for pleasure/slavery. When Savas went rogue he continued the flesh trade and took his son, Nestan, with him. Nestan has never agreed with his father’s ways and has always ended up a punching bag or someone to talk down to. Linnea is a human and stows away on a flesh trading ship to try and find her sister. When she is brought to the camp things get really intense. Linnea and Nestan face some trials with each other and were jailed together in Savas’s camp. Things get complicated….They escape but help a Draqon baby that was imprisoned too. This trio is then on the run in the jungle trying to get back to his Vilkan pack to give warning about the incident. Along the way they are faced with many obstacles but this trio just works. I love the world of Kladuu and the characters in the books. This book has a lot of diversity and how this diversity is overcome is truly incredible. The story is fast paced, action packed, and steamy but with a lot of real life struggles that most people face every day. I am truly enamored with these characters and this world. While this story gets pretty deep on an emotional level there is the perfect amount of wit, laughter and steaminess in there as well. One of my favorite lines near the beginning is “Shape-shifting wolfmen were hard enough to swallow, but this is like some kind of ridiculous fantasy novel.” And it doesn’t stop here. The best part about this couple is they find a purpose within themselves with each other. I’m loving this series!

Monsterland….Disneyland….what’s the difference? Monsterland is what happens when Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies are for real, for real. The monsters are real and living in hiding or in containments camps. It is ruining the economy but the hero comes in just in time to save the day. He has this amazing idea to have these creatures live in Monsterland for “observation” turned theme park. Some people have their reservations but others are crazy psyched to go to Monsterland. Wyatt gets an amazing chance to go to opening night of Monsterland and go behind the scenes as well. He takes his friends and his little brother to opening night. Boy! They are in for the time of their lives! Buckle up and get ready for a crazy, unhinged, wild ride! Things aren’t always what they seem and you will be in the middle of chaos in no time. This is the first book I have read by Michael Phillip Cash and it won’t be the last. One of my new favorite authors!

An epic ending to an incredible series! I dove into this story expecting loose ends to be tied and the story coming to a close. What I didn’t expect was the intensity of the story. It was crazy awesome! The truths finally come out! It has taken me a while to get my words together for this review because I can’t stress the epic-ness (lol! told you I was struggling) of this series. The journey that Shay takes will really make you relate to her. She has been controlled and manipulated for as long as she can remember and has gotten sick and tired of it. As the series went along she has been realizing she is strong but with Bold Strokes the strength really comes out. She turns into the strong and independent woman that we all want to be. Then we have all our favorite guys in the mix, Aiden and Eli, Carl and McNab, Gabriel and Cullen. These guys all add the necessary roughness that we come to expect from the Bella-verse. The push and pull of these characters in this world is written perfectly. I have gotten so attached to the characters, well, because we all know someone like them, and I wasn’t sure exactly how this was going to end. I mean, the ultimate questions arise….Does she stop the Specter? Who else is gonna die? Who gets the girl? OMG! YOU MUST READ THIS BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SPOILERS HERE! The whole journey has been breathtaking, skin crawling, funny, sad, with failures and so many strengths. But most important are all the twists and turns that absolutely keep you on the edge of your seat constantly trying to figure the angle out. It’s about figuring out that you ARE going somewhere even if you don’t know exactly where you are going. Oh the madness! An absolute must read! Kudos to the author, Bella! Girl, you rocked this!

#Review – Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things (Dead Things #1) by Martina McAtee

Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (Dead Things, #1)

17 year old Ember Denning has made an art of isolating herself. She prefers the dead. She spends her days skipping school in old cemeteries and her nights hiding from her alcoholic father at the funeral home where she works. When her own father dies, Ember learns her whole life is a lie. Standing in the cemetery that’s been her sanctuary, she’s threatened by the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen and rescued by two people who claim to be her family. They say she’s special, that she has a supernatural gift like them…they just don’t know exactly what it is.

They take her to a small Florida town, where Ember’s life takes a turn for the weird. She’s living with her reaper cousins, an orphaned werewolf pack, a faery and a human genius. Ember’s powers are growing stronger, morphing into something bigger than anything anybody anticipated. Ember has questions but nobody has answers. Nobody knows what she is. They only know her mysterious magical gift is trying to kill them and that beautiful dangerous boy from the cemetery may be the only thing standing between her and death.

As Ember’s talents are revealed so are the secrets her father hid and those in power who would seek to destroy her. What’s worse, saving Ember has put her cousins in danger and turned her friend’s lives upside down. Ember must learn to embrace her magic or risk losing the family she’s pieced together.

First, this cover! I mean, who wouldn’t check the book out with a cover like this?! Second, the premise of the book promises lots of supernatural and ghouls alike! I mean, duh! YES, PLEASE! I have not read a story like this before. It definitely takes the paranormal world to a new level. This story is hilarious, witty and a bit on the morbid side in a fantastical way. Ember is just a teenage girl who is trying to get through life. She has had a terrible childhood and when her alcoholic father dies her world really does turn upside down. Her life goes from complicated to unrecognizable. There is a huge amount of characters ranging from our softies to the baddies. Most have a supernatural ability. And when they are all put together the story explodes! Naturally we have many secrets that are going through the process to be revealed but most truths come with more questions. Ember is really just trying to figure herself out and when she finally finds where she is supposed to be she isn’t sure if she can live up to what everyone expects her to be. She is drawn to the dead, like a moth to a flame, and she has no idea why. What I love about this book is how the story comes to life. The author does an incredible job with bringing all of the characters into play and giving them all a voice. We get to experience the monsters, illusions, redemption, fear, doubt, jealousy….just all the feels! This is absolutely one of my new favorite books. In fact, when I finished the book I went right out and purchased the second because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! And I was not let down in the slightest. Trust me, you need to read this!

#Review – SHIFT (Mackenzie Grey #1) by Karina Espinosa

SHIFT (Mackenzie Grey: Origins, #1)

It’s hard enough being an undergraduate student, an intern at Downtown Manhattan’s police station, and a bouncer at a local bar. Add her now ex-boyfriend who recently dumped her for the school’s resident bimbo—oh, and she’s a werewolf.
Mackenzie Grey meets her match when she is kidnapped by the Brooklyn Pack and tossed between Sebastian and Jonah—the Alpha and the Beta. Being a lone-wolf in the city is dangerous, and now that the Pack has found her, so can every supernatural being in the Tri-State area. And not even her sarcastic, smart mouth can get her out of this.
When a string of kidnappings involves Mackenzie in supernatural politics, she questions her new acquaintances and finds unlikely allies. Can she escape Pack law and keep her freedom—or will she be condemned to an unwanted path?

Goodreads

This is such a great book! A kickass heroine who is bending all the rules and showing she can play with the big boys! I actually won this book during a book release party. I have never heard of this author but I do LOVE a good shifter book. I was a little put off at the first sentence because it starts with how her ex-boyfriend left her for a bimbo. I didn’t want the book to be a bunch of high school type stuff but I was proven wrong and very fast. Mackenzie is this college student who is a werewolf. She is not sure how it happened and has no one to talk with about this change. She has an amazing friend, Amy, who reminds me of the saying “dynamite comes in small packages”. A trio of werewolves doesn’t make her quiver. Mackenzie has a strength and confidence about her that gets her a job as a bouncer at a nightclub. She runs into the local pack and this becomes trouble. She is still trying to wrap her head around the whole mess while attempting to get answers from them about her. She is having an extremely difficult time with the pack as she is unwilling to bend to their practices and rules. There are many tough decisions, things that could scar her for life, but she takes it in stride as she understands that sometimes you have to break the rules. She is still an extremely independent woman but has to lean on someone when things continue to go awry with her ex and the kidnappings that are now involving her. This is an extremely witty and cunning story that is full of badassery. I got absolutely sucked in and could not stop until the end and even then I needed more. I will be continuing this journey of Mackenzie’s. It’s absolutely captivating. Kudos to the author!

#Review – The Dark Forest: The Revelations of Oriceran (Soul Stone Mage #2) by Sarah Noffke

The Dark Forest: The Revelations of Oriceran (Soul Stone Mage, #2)

The Kingdom of Virgo has lived in peace for thousands of years…until now.

Azure’s world flips when she discovers her father is the emperor of Terran. Wait…was the emperor.

Now the two are prisoners in the Land of Terran.

Azure must escape and locate her mother’s soul stone. The virus that stole the queen’s magic is going after her very life, and the soul stone is her only hope.

Azure must save her mother. Create alliances with savage beasts. And win her people’s favor to keep the crown.

However, Princess Azure now has a taste for adventure. If being queen means she must sit on a throne, then to hell with that.

Welcome to The Revelations of Oriceran.

A magical world tied to Earth, and nothing like it.

*NOTE: There’s cursing in this book because these witches and wizards are just rude like that. If cursing isn’t for you, then this might not be for you.

Goodreads

What is going to happen next?! That is the question. Azure and her father, who is human and was the emperor of Terran) are imprisoned for treason. Azure has to find her mother’s soul stone or her mother is going to die. In the first book she made some new, quirky friends on her quest through the Dark Forest along with her best friend Monet. With the help of these guys she and her father are able to escape with her mother’s soul stone. Now the next part of her journey begins. Along her travels back through the Dark Forest she is foraging new alliances with other unlikely groups. She is faced with immense amounts of diversity and her true colors are shining through. She really is someone that wants to help all peoples and creatures of her planet but she wants to be proactive. Watching all of these characters develop has been amazing and quite inspirational. The characters definitely have their own personalities and each of their quirks have made this journey so much fun to follow. Monet, by far, has to be one of my favorite characters in this series so far. He can be such a baby but is super witty and really does have Azure’s best interests at heart. The banter with Monet will keep you laughing and rolling through this amazing adventure!

#Review – Forever Cursed (Never Ever Series) by Sarah J Pepper

Forever Cursed (Never Ever Series)

Captain James –

Peter may as well be imprisoned on Neverland with us for he consumes Miss Bell’s thoughts, stealing her away from me. His retaliation is a constant threat of which we cannot escape. Even so, that pathetic excuse of a man is the least of my worries. Corrupt and vile creatures rule this tiny spit of land, brought here by fairies, by Miss Bell.

Whether she admits it or not, she needs my protection. Yet, I catch her glancing at my severed arm with pity in her eyes. She thinks of me as weak, injured, and any number of inadequacies. Feck. I will not stand for it! I will protect her, even if it costs me my life.

Miss Bell –

Captain James makes no attempt to shield the darkness harbored in his eyes, like he wants me—needs me—to see what most people do. Ruthlessness. Turmoil. Devastation.

“Remember that the same hand I use to caress your delicate skin has been stained with the blood of my enemies,” he says, cupping my cheek. “Do not assume my affection for you is something others have experienced. Understood, Miss Bell?”

I understand. Hell, I am counting on it. Peter would rather see me dead than in the arms of another, and I have no intention of dying—especially not when Captain James makes me feel so alive.

Forever Cursed is the second story in this dark and twisted fairy tale series. It goes along the premise of Peter Pan but with an intense desperation for vengeance. Captain James Hook and Miss Bell have come back to Neverland, a place where bad people are trapped. People Miss Bell brought to the island. Peter is absolutely obsessed with Miss Bell in a bad stalker-ish kind of way. Captain James is hurt as his hand has been cut off. But both are hell bent on protecting the other. Neverland is jam packed full of Bell’s past and everything seems to be creeping up on her. This is an insanely intense book. It’s full of passion, corruption, greed, and violence. This is about finding your true and perfect love and coming to terms as to how deep it runs in your heart and bones. These two are like “Bonnie and Clyde”. Better to be on their good side than on the bad side. I have a feeling Bell’s past is going to end up the bad side. This story is incredible!

If you are reading this review because you were pulled in by the cover then I suggest you dive right in to the story. The cover is only the beginning. The story starts off with Jude making a crash landing on an alien planet. Right from the start the heat goes up. The fighting is intense and Jude proves to be bada**. Gerritt is the Alpha of the Vilka’s and happens to be in the same area as Jude when she crashes. Right away he is smitten. He has this undeniable pull to Jude. He can’t let her out of his sight but they are driving each other completely insane! They are constantly in danger but watching each other’s back. The banter between these two characters….and our side characters….had me laughing out loud at times. It is refreshing when you have such an intense, action packed story with the perfect amount of funny and hotness. It had an incredible beginning with an amazing end. The world building makes you feel like you are on Kladuu and the characters feel real. This is such an easy read to let you escape. *I received this book in exchange for an honest review*

Who doesn’t love a fairy tale? Especially a twisted fairy tale! Yes, please! This book has merged a few of my favorite genres into one. Dystopian, paranormal, fairy tale with a twisted happily ever after. This is a great re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. We start with Quill. She escaped the trapped life in the city under her sadistic father and is living freely among the Desecrated. She is trying to help others gain this freedom as well. All hell breaks loose when she goes into the city trying to gather information on other Desecrated that were kidnapped. Here she runs into tall, dark and handsome. She hates him! Loathes him! She then finds her sister by accident and does all she can to help her escape. This is where things get tricky. She gets caught and ends up trading her life for her sister’s. Now Quill is on this incredible journey learning things about the world that are supposed to be make-believe. She is one strong woman and brings even the most strongest of man, or “other”, to his knees. Desecrated Beauty is action packed and fast moving. The author will keep you wanting. Once you start you will have to finish! I look forward to more in this series.

FANGIRL TURNED WRITER. SLYTHERIN SHADOWHUNTER FROM DISTRICT FOUR.

I’m fairly confident that I came out of womb reading the book. I’ve always loved stories in whatever medium they come. Books, movies, television shows… It didn’t matter. I didn’t discriminate (I still don’t!). It was only a natural progression that I become a writer myself.

I’ve been telling stories for as long as I’ve been reading. Even if it was just standing in front of my family acting out dramatic retellings of my day or making up stories of my own it didn’t matter. It was only a matter of time until I branched out into being a real writer and sharing my stories with friends and strangers alike. And you know what? It’s the best job in the world.

I write dirty, sexy stories about humans & their supernatural lovers. I grew up dreaming of being a Greek Goddess, not a Princess, so I wrote a book about it. In my Grace of Gods series normal humans find out they possess the souls of Greek Gods within them. They are whisked out of their lives and brought to Mount Olympus, thrust into the new and dramatic lives of their Gods.

The Veiled Path to Destiny

If she had never been at a crossroad before, Daria found herself at one now.

With one foot in the distant past, the other remains firmly entrenched in the present. Daria tries to come to terms with the memories of her previous life as they inundate her mind on an endless loop. Can she deal with the past and find a way to walk the path that is laid out for her future? Is she brave enough to face her destiny, or will she walk away?

Iauron has his Queen back…or does he? His is aware of Daria’s lingering doubts about him as she tries to retain her humanity in the face of remembering and accepting who she once was. Though the main threat to her life is temporarily incapacitated, he knows it cannot, and will not, remain that way forever.

Not fully Verisiel nor Daria, is she strong enough to meet the coming threat head on? Can she come into her powers and stand by his side? Can he let her go if she cannot accept the whole truth of her situation?

Big questions remain with few answers in sight, and time is running out.

Goodreads

An amazing heartfelt book. This story is about the illusion of time and how this luxury can be easily taken away. Daria has been whisked away to the fae realm. She has been told she is Veriseil, the fae queen and she struggles with this day in and day out. She has always been an independent woman and feels like she is drowning in this new world and life. She has no say in this and it wrecks her emotionally. Iauron, the fae king, is ecstatic that he has found his queen. But how does he show her that he loves Daria and not just Veriseil. There is a delicate push and pull between the characters that becomes intense at times. And low and behold…the bad guy is still out there and will stop at nothing to bring down the fae queen. And what happens when you mess with fate? Karma comes back tenfold to all involved. This is truly a wonderful story of true love….and new love. A beautiful follow up to Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams. I can’t to see what Jolanthe Aleksander comes up with next!
