#WOTR19 #ThrowbackReview – Catching Raindrops (The Sutter Family, #1) by Heather D’Agostino

Catching Raindrops (The Sutter Family, #1)

Ever feel like your entire life has been planned out for you before you were even born?

As the only girl in the Sutter family and daughter of an ‘almost Olympian’, my parents have always had goals for me. I never questioned them and always strived to be the best. I thought I knew what I wanted in life until I didn’t.

One mistake, and the straight path I had planned was suddenly crooked. Goals that I’d worked for since I was little didn’t seem so important anymore; And the one place I never thought I’d go back to was the only place I wanted to be… home, where I found comfort in the most unlikely place.

At six years my senior, Brock Foster has always been unattainable. He was the boy that filled my fantasies. I resigned myself years ago to never feel his touch, never know what his kisses were like, or to have him wrap me in his arms. I never thought when I came home that he would still be there, or that he’d remember me.

Sometimes the future that we think we want isn’t what we need. Sometimes those bumps and turns mold us into who we were always meant to be, and sometimes they lead us to who we should have always been with.

Brock Foster helped me to embrace my path. He taught me to stop and catch the raindrops, and open myself to love again.

Returning to the Sutter family is like returning home. Seeing Emma all grown up is wonderful.

Coming homework the summer after being away at school Emma is hiding a lot from her family and when she does tell them she doesn’t tell them everything about why she came home. No one knows the whole truth but her. She doesn’t expect to find the boy of her teenage dreams has come back to town and is all grown up and looking yummy. She wasn’t looking for love, but that is what she found.

Brock wasn’t looking to find someone, he especially wasn’t looking to start dating Emma Sutter. He remembers her as a teen, and now that she is all grown up she just……….. But he knows when she finds out his secret it’s gonna be bad, heck when her dad finds out he’s gonna be dead. Why? Because Nick Sutter is his boss!!!!

D’Agostino never fails to make me cry, even if she isn’t trying too. Emma and Brock are hot and sweet rolled into one. Nick and Leah are everything they were in their story, but better as parents. When Emma has to explain the real reason she came home for the summer, her parents are unbelievably supportive of her and Brock shows what a true man is by listening and following his heart.

When she goes back to school will they be able to make a long distance relationship work? Are her parents still going to support their relationship or will her dad make it so hard for Brock that he has to quit his job? I’m not telling!!!! However, I will tell you this; if you’ve never read The Shattered Series, which is about Emma’s parents, you can totally read this book. It’s the start of a totally new series and you will not be lost. Im looking forward to the next book and I hope that Mel puts Aaron in his place.

When and Why did you start to write?

In 2012 I started writing as a fanfiction writer. I published my first full length novel in 2013. I found my love of reading again, and I wanted to try my hand at writing.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

T. Torrest, J. Sterling, K. Bromberg, Aleatha Romig, Gail McHugh, K. Linde, and the list goes on…

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

The writing part is the easiest. I’m a pantser, and that’s the only part of my life that I can do on a whim. I must plan everything else out. My characters control my writing. It’s the only time I let go. I must be in control with everything else, it’s a character flaw. LOL

What are you working on now?

Secret project. Shhh I can’t give any details yet. My betas don’t even know the deets. I just finished book 3 in my Sutter Family Series and I have plans for a spinoff on the Broken Series to start this summer.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

a pantser

I’ve always known what I was meant to do… surf. I’ve spent practically every day in the water since I was six searching for the green room. This is where I met my best friend, Ryan. We’ve been inseparable for the better part of our lives. He has always ‘just a friend’, and I am ok with that.

As time passed, our friendship evolved into what I thought could be love, only to be tested. A chance to go pro, to find the green room, was right within my grasp. I had a choice to make… Ryan or the future I’d only dreamt about?

I receive this book from the author for an honest review.

I have been so ready to read this book.  The story of Jess and Ryan has been in the Sutter series since Catching Raindrops, book 1.

Jess and Ryan are soulmates, but Ryan lets jealousy get in the way of his heart.  Jess lets fear and anger push her away from the person she knows will make her happy.

As far as we can remember it was Jess and Ryan.  They were discovering surfing together along with human sexuality *wiggles eyes* Ryan always wants more, and Jess always pulls back.  She knows she loves Ryan and he her, but they are only kids.

When competition gets in the way and the two break up, Ryan turns into a jerk.  He only cares for what makes him happy and for what can hurt Jess.

Jess tried to leave the beach and memories of Ryan but when she comes back to Ems wedding she is forced to deal with her past and Ryan’s new future.

I loved that Em’s wedding was the wake up call Ryan needed to go and chase his dream….Jess.  He knows this is who he needs to be with and will do anything he can to be with her.  We all know how those Sutter men are when they get a plan in their head….unstoppable.

Jess is done with everything, but she makes Ryan work and work hard at gaining her trust and affections again.  She will not be just another one of many for Ryan’s girls.

When the conflict of the story happens and our couple are put into some trouble, we see then pushing toward and away from each other.  WE see Ryan unwavering in his devotion to Jess while Jess falls apart.  Can Jess finally open he eyes and see that Ryan is the man she needs and will Ryan prove to Jess that she is enough for him???

synopsis

I had it all once…I was popular, a jock, the center of attention in any group, friends that followed me everywhere. I thought I ruled the world, and in my high school I did. Girls threw themselves at me, and I used them knowing they’d never mean anything until I met her…Danielle Reed.

I never planned on liking her or even falling in love, but I did. I fell hard, and I ruined it before it could really begin.

It’s been eight years now. I never thought I’d see her again, but here she is. The thing is, she can’t stand me. She reminds me every chance she gets of what a horrible person I was, and how she hopes I rot in hell. I know it would be simpler to just move on and forget about her, but I can’t. I can’t let her go, and I don’t want to.

Danielle Reed will be mine again. I just need to make her remember.

Say You Remember is book 4 in The Witness Series.

Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Mason, Mason, Mason what can I say I had a love/hate relationship with him throughout this book. This story goes from present time to Mason and Dani to past Mace and Dani. This is where the love hate comes into play. I would love Mason in one chapter and hate him in the next. The two sides to Mason were like night and day I loved who Mason is now but wanted to throat punch younger Mace.  Mace was a DB jock who could have anyone he wanted that is until a bet between teammates. Can I say I truly disliked Mace best friend Brad and wanted to unleash on him.

Daniele was a pain Jane in school so when Mace started showing her attention she fell hard but Mace being Mace hurt her by shattering her heart. Now years later she has a job to do and is shocked when she runs into none other than Mace. Can Mason prove to Dani that he has changed and is not the same guy he fell for in high school.  I loved seeing the things Mason did to try to prove himself to Dani.

I loved how the story went from past to present giving us small glimpses of what happened between Mace and Dani in the past. I enjoyed getting little glimpses at a time instead of the story starting from the beginning. Seeing the banter between Mace and his sister when they were younger and then to see their relationship when they were older was amazing. The way Dani is hard on Mason and makes him work hard for her forgiveness is priceless. This is a wonderful second chance story.
