#WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlights – Daryl Banner

Daryl Banner

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi! I’m Daryl Banner, and I’m an author of M/M and new adult romance, post-apocalyptic fantasy, and dystopian fiction. I’m also a composer, avid gamer, and LOVE to play any piano I see. I sometimes go live on my Facebook author page just to play the piano, chat with my readers, and goof off =)

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

I feel the most grounded when I write in the comfort of my home. I can’t eat while I write!

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting people and socializing and just being a silly human being with no pressure. I look at signings sometimes as vacations from my writing work!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I would love to meet JK Rowling and Chuck Palahniuk. They both have deeply inspired me in very, very different ways. JK Rowling has such a delicate way with story, character, and emotion that both makes it feel so purposeful and yet totally effortless. Chuck Palahniuk has this brilliantly diabolical way of yanking out the very worst (and the very best) out of the human spirit and putting it on display like some grotesque piece of art. I love them both.

What author would you love to write with?

I think it would be fascinating (and a little terrifying – and inspiring!) to write with George R R Martin. Though, if we were to collaborate, I’m afraid we wouldn’t release something for 10 years. But I’d like to think it’d be well worth the wait!

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Nothing emotionally quite compares to the night I finished writing the final book in my Beautiful Dead trilogy. It was the first series I “finished” (though there is a second trilogy I’m writing now that follow the original trilogy), and I had such a deep mixture of sadness and pride for having completed something. I remember the night vividly. I remember the music I was listening to. I remember how “complete” I felt inside. I remember lots of tears, but also smiles. Whenever I get lost in a book or get frustrated with the progress of another, I always think back to that moment, and it keeps me going.
