Anna Hague

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Anna Hague and I live just a little north of Indianapolis IN. I also work as a sports writer/photographer for a local paper. My husband and I don’t have any children, but we’ve hosted 11 foreign exchange students. Before Covid, we did all kinds of activities. Now we’ve gotten content hanging out at home with our two dogs and three parrots. We are planning some vacations this year and plan to visit one of our kids in Italy in a year or so. I started publishing in 2016 and the best thing is all the wonderful people I’ve met in person and online.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I think the other books are harder. You have so many ideas with the first, and after that one, you have to find something that will make the new book unique and just as interesting to the reader as the first.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I’m using secondary characters as the MCs. By using them, I can dive deeper into their lives and personalities the reader didn’t really get to see in the previous book. So both the reader and me get to know all kinds of things we didn’t know before.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t force it. If the words aren’t there, leave it alone for awhile. I had to take a break for medical reasons. I had no desire to write. Now after the hiatus, I’m really excited to be back writing.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Because of my job, my hours are never set. I try for an hour everyday and days I’m not working, I aim for five to six. But I have to get full permission from the dogs, and they don’t always agree.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Jamey from Captured Hearts. He was my first, but I still love him. He did something really horrible, and through three books and a span of almost 18 years, he cannot forgive himself even though others have.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Thunderstruck would be a great Netflix movie because it’s a paranormal. I think Chris Hemsworth and Mila Kunis would be a good pair.

What is your definition of success?

It’s certainly not about the money. I think from Page 1 to The End is success. The whole process of writing a novel is challenging at every turn. The story, the conflict, the pacing, the resolution. It all takes so much of yourself and sanity to complete.
