ARC Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from Booksprout to leave an honest review.

I love this series and these guys are tough but so loving and protective when it comes to their ol’ ladies and family.  I will always “one click” this series, TBH even though I received an ARC I also preordered it and I will purchase the audio when it comes out.  I was not sure about this one before jumping into it only because I didn’t know the main characters very well.  They are not as prominent in the other books but side characters that are known by main characters.  Michel and Wrin did not disappoint this was just as good as the other books.

Doc has been best friends with Red for a long time and has been helping most of the Ol’ Ladies over video chat.  Doc is receiving death threats and need to get away while they figure out who it is.  So she decides that it is time she pays the residents of Turnabout Creek she has been treating a visit. While visiting she runs into another visitor, one she names Chief.

Wendell Washington has been in the Navy for 20 years and is retiring. After loosing his wife and son years ago he doesn’t quite know where he is going to put down roots.  He never had to think of this before because he has always been on a ship with others giving orders.  He makes the decision to go to his friend Annie’s wedding in Turnabout Creek.  He is still haunted by the loss of his wife and son and has to work through a lot of issues while here.

Chief has PTSD when it comes to dealing with the loss of his wife and son but Doc is able to help him with this. Chief and Doc have amazing chemistry from the start but can Chief overcome the thought of being able to protect Doc unlike he was able to with his family. I thought their banter and jabs regarding the others choice of military branch they served in was great.  I enjoyed seeing Chief open up and learn to trust the Steels.

I enjoyed seeing all the Steel men and their Ol’ Ladies. I love when the men jump in and protect whoever needs protecting and will deal with anyone who stands in their way of doing this.  This one had my emotions breaks my heart when emergency’s come up and no matter what Red and his team does, they cannot change the outcome but they do deal with the reason why the emergency came up. I just want to say I loved seeing Hack in this one, I love him so much. We did get to see all the Steels and their family and it was nice to see them all again.  I also liked that we learned a little more about Red. It is always a good day when I get to read about the Steels and their families. Now I have to wait for this one to come out in audio so I can listen to all over again.
