MM MARCH MADNESS!!

March 6

Twinsie Talk is proud to present the 3rd Annual MM March Madness – a month to focus on the M/M, F/F, M/M/F, M/F/M authors. We love these books and want to share it with the rest of the world. Each day we will post an interview. We will also include any reviews that we have done on these books as well as links to the books.

Our hope is that you will love this genre as much as we do! <3

Today is devoted to Donya Lynne

author bio

Donya Lynne is the bestselling author of the award winning All the King’s Men Series and a member of Romance Writers of America. Making her home in a wooded suburb north of Indianapolis with her husband, Donya has lived in Indiana most of her life and knew at a young age that she was destined to be a writer. She started writing poetry in grade school and won her first short story contest in fourth grade. In junior high, she began writing romantic stories for her friends, and by her sophomore year, she’d been dubbed Most Likely to Become a Romance Novelist. In 2012, she made that dream come true by publishing her first two novels and a novella. Her work has earned her two IPPYs (one gold, one silver) and two ELit Awards (one gold, one silver) as well as numerous accolades. When she’s not writing, she can be found cheering on the Indianapolis Colts or doing her cats’ bidding.

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

Coloring in adult coloring books has become a bit of an obsession for me. I’ve obtained a huge collection of colored pencils, gel pens, and coloring books, and like to use coloring as active meditation. It’s really helped me with coming up with ideas for my stories.

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

HARDER! LOL. I write series and standalones, and I can definitely say writing series is harder, especially if you write saga-like series like I’m doing with my All the King’s Men Series. My Strong Karma Trilogy wasn’t as hard but was still challenging. When you write a series, you have to be diligent about keeping a series bible so that all the details are recorded and remembered for future books. I also like to reread all my books occasionally to make sure they stay fresh in my mind. But series writing is so challenging that I need to write the occasional standalone to give my brain a break. But a lot of readers love series. They love getting into the characters and living inside that world for a while, so that’s why writing series is worth the effort.

Where do you do most of your writing?

I do most of my writing in my home office, but I will occasionally write in the easy chair or on the couch for a change of perspective.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

I’m currently reading Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I like to read books I wouldn’t normally read when I’m trying to freshen up or give new life to my writing. I’ve also started reading Uprooted by Naomi Novik for the same reason, and because I’ve heard so many good things about it The third book I’m reading is November 9 by Colleen Hoover. I just love her writing. She’s such a fabulous author. As for suggestions, I highly recommend the Struck by Lightning Series by Cecelia Tan for anyone who wants an erotic read. I also recently read Pretty Broken Girl and Pretty Filthy Lies by Jeana Mann and LOVED them. She has such a way with words. Such a joy to read. And Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite books, so I have to give it a nod here. As for m/m books, Hot Head by Damon Suede is a must read, and anything by AJ Rose (I loved Power Exchange and Safeword).

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

I think this genre is growing, albeit slowly. There is a rabid audience for LBGT books but not a lot of authors writing such books when compared to other genres. I think that the proliferation of digital publishing and self publishing is a huge reason for this growth. In the past, publishers seemed to shy away from such books, which is a good thing for self publishers.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

That the rules are always changing. And, in fact, that the rules are merely guidelines. But you have to know what the rules are so you know when it’s appropriate to break them, and how to break them.

What are you working on now?

I am working the final edits of my 7th AKM novel, Bound Guardian Angel, which my readers have been begging for since I wrote the first novel, Rise of the Fallen. This is Trace’s story, and Trace is a very special, iconic character. It’s available for preorder on iBooks, and the Amazon preorder will be up sometime in April. iBooks preorder link: https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/book/bound-guardian-angel/id1073719836?mt=11&at=1000l8vX I’m also working on BLACK, book 8 of the AKM Series, which is also available for iBooks preorder; Slave, book 9 of AKM; What Comes Around, the followup to my Strong Karma Trilogy; two standalones; and an erotic trilogy I’m very excited about. So, yes, I have a lot of projects at some point in development.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

I’m pretty boring. I simply like to relax on the couch. I could be reading, sleeping, watching Ghost Adventures, or writing, but I’m always on the couch on Saturday night, probably because I’ve worked my butt off all week. But when the weather’s nice, I sometimes like to sit in my office with the window open while I’m coloring and listening to the outside world for a little while.

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

The highest high came last October when I hit the Smashwords Top 25 bestseller list with two books, based exclusively on iBooks sales. Coming Back To You hit #7 and Full Circle hit #13, and the list was published in Publishers Weekly in December. October was my best month for sales to date. Very exciting. As for my lowest low? I haven’t really had one. I’ve had low sales months, but the ride has still been exciting and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. If anything my lowest low came BEFORE I published my first book, and was the reason for me to finally go for it and make writing my profession. I’d been studying writing for ten years with the intent to publish, so when events in my life took a devastating turn for the worse, I decided the time was now. I’ve never regretted that decision and haven’t looked back since.

Today is devoted to Jenna Galicki

author bio

Jenna Galicki writes in multiple genres including m/m/f, m/f, and m/m. She is predominantly known for her Radical Rock Stars Series. The Prince of Punk Rock (Radical Rock Stars Book 1) was a finalist in the 2015 Bisexual Book Awards.

Jenna is a strong advocate for LGBT rights and marriage equality. A native New Yorker, she recently relocated to Southern California with her husband and two dogs. She’s a Rottweiler enthusiast and an avid music buff. When she’s not hunched over a computer, you can find her front row at a rock concert.

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

I’m a huge animal lover. I’ve been a vegetarian since I was a teenager and stopped consuming all milk products about 5 years ago. I’m working my way to vegan.

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

I have written a rock star series, but it wasn’t my intention. The original story about Angel, Tommy and Jessi was a big one and halfway through writing it, I knew it needed to be 2 books. As it turned out, it needed to be 3 books. While writing the first book (The Prince of Punk Rock) I new right away that Damien had a backstory that needed to be told. I knew his past in my head and loved his story. It needed to be put on paper and shared. The other characters evolved and Jimmy’s story also needed to be told. It actually worked out very well in regard to the original story about Angel, Tommy and Jessi because their relationship needed time to progress and develop before they found balance.

Where do you do most of your writing?

I usually write in my home office with my 2 dogs at my feet, but I always take either my tablet with me in case the opportunity arises.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

Caught! by JL Merrow (smart is the new sexy! 🙂 )

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

I think the m/m genre has exploded. I have no idea why, but I’m very happy about it. I want to see boy/boy on the shelf right next to boy/girl.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

I’m surprised at the velocity of stories running around in my head! They take control of themselves and have their own path. I have my foot on the gas, but the characters are the ones driving.

What are you working on now?

The last novel in the Radical Rock Stars Series, Punk Rock-A-Bye Baby, was released on Jan 27. I have a m/m short in the Hearts Afire Anthology that was published on Feb. 14.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

Go to a rock concert!

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

The highest point had to from the Bisexual Book Awards. The Prince of Punk Rock was a finalist in the Romance Category. This was voted on by a panel at The Biwriters Association. They probably never heard of me or my books before they read The Prince of Punk Rock. It was an honor.

Low point? That’s a hard one to answer. This has been an incredible ride.

The Prince of  Punk Rock Review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

So my blog is focusing on MM FF MMF MFM and all the mixes in the middle this month (March 2014). I saw the promo for this book and thought WOW and it even would fit with our theme so I reached out to the author for a copy. I sat and read this book in not time at all. I couldn’t put it down. These characters captured my heart and attnetion from the very first page.

Tommy is some kinda lucky man. He is married to Jessi. She knows he is bisexual and will do anything to make him happy. She allows him to bring men home and she watches and even participated with Tommy while the other male is playing with Tommy too…however no touching of Jessi is allowed….They have a happy marriage and the world is good. Tommy gets a message to meet this Angel guy for an opportunity in his up and coming band. Jesse and Tommy go and BOOM INSTANT chemistry. Angel and Tommy have this instant pull. Jessi even sees it and does some match making. I was thinking “man she is some kind of awesome to be OK with this and even encouraging it.” The three start to have a happy relationship but you see Jessi have cracks….she is begining to wonder if Angel will take Tommy away. Along the way of the story, there is great band news, unhappy family revilations and alot of sex….snickers…but you prolly figured that right??!!

Angel is VERY gay and even when Jessi is trying to seduce him, he will not budge. I have to admit I felt the sting of the rejection like Jessi did and was a little bit sad that Tommy never picked up on it. He is intune with this wife but sometimes I felt Angel was more intune with her and their love was platonic.

I was devistaed in the story when you find out about the secret that Tommy adn Angel kept from Jessi. I too was so hurt that this woman who sacraficed everything willingly for the man she loved would keep things from her. I was proud of her for standing by his and Angels side to take care of the drama nbut hurt like she was. I also was very happy with her postion at the end of the story. I am happy to see Jessi taking care of Jessi. I read the blurb for book 2 and I have to admit my heart is hurting at the drama that will be taking place in book 2…..omg i dont know if i cant take it……..

Between a Rock and a Hard Place Review
I received this book from the author for an honest opinion.
When I read the first book if the series I was just hooked! I mean a married couple with an openly bisexual husband who has a curious wife that opens her marriage to an openly gay man….and it works!!!
Well this part of the book really , really makes it hard for the threesome. Jessi can’t go on tour with Angel and Tommy. She has to stay behind and finish school. The time without Jessi was a little “honeymoon: for Angel and Tommy. However, Jessi gets very insecure of their relationship. Words between her and angel are not nice and Tommy is pulled between the two loves of his live. His wife means everything but his partner is just as important.
Well, Angel and Jessi find some common gournd and realize that they both are insecure when it comes to the other. Angel is afraid that if it doesnt work out, he is the one getting walking papers because Jessi is the LEGAL spouse of Tommy.
When that drama is worked out Jessi has new drama to work out with her new business. Tommy realizes that Jessi is his rock and roll heart and soul. If she will not be able to participate in the tours and travel, then he is done with the music industry. He has realized he is a bit of a slacker with both his loves and is going to step up his game to prove his loyalty and love to them both.
The next book, I am soooo excited to read. It is going to be a great story. I cannot wait for it either!!
Punk Rock-A-Bye Baby Review
I received this book from the author for an honest review.

AHHH!! This book!! I loved it so much!! I have been a big fan of the series and was super stoked to see that the trio would be having a baby. Jessi, Tommy and Angel have come full circle in this series. They have embraced their polyamorous lifestyle. They have also been able to put all jealousy to rest and been open to a full, loving relationship.

When Tommy decides to officially marry Angel, I was so excited. Too also see Jessi as on board made me happy. When the three officially become a family and they decide on adding a baby, I. WAS. STOKED!! Their honeymoon does end up causing some trouble for them in the future but the trauma also helps to reinforce their bonds. The ending chapters made my heart pitter patter but I can’t say why because I think it was the best part of the book. It made my heart soar!!! It was the unexpected Cream Cheese Frosting on my already perfect Red Velvet Cake Book!!!

I loved seeing the rest of the band and am hopeful that we may see another punk rock baby from Alyssa and or Audra???? Maybe? Perhaps? I would be down for reading about Damien and Alyssa because his is my FAVORITE of the guys!!

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner, My character have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

Please come follow me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/felice.steve…
and my author page at: https://www.facebook.com/felicesteven….
There is a wonderful group of dedicated readers who call themselves Felice’s Fierce Fans who’d love for you to join them and talk about Rescued, and find out about other books I have in progress

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

I am a reality show junkie!! I love the Real Housewives shows, as well as Say Yes to the Dress, as well as true crime shows like Forensic files and Snapped

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

Most of my books are series. When I was strictly a reader I loved series because I fell in love with the characters and didn’t want to say good bye to them.
They are harder because of the timeline. I’m terrible keeping track of years passing, and thank God my editor knows to watch out.

Where do you do most of your writing?

On my sofa.  LOL I work full time so I get up early and write late when I come home from work.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

I just finished Red River, a shifter MM book by one of a favorite author, Cardeno C.  Anything Cardeno writes, I read. I also love Josh Lanyon Riley Hart and recently became hooked on the Infected series by Andrea Speed. Jordan Hawk’s Whyborne and Griffin series is also a favorite.

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

I do! And I’m thrilled. I think that people are becoming more adventurous and willing to try other types of Romance they might not have been willing to try in the past. But i don’t lump MM Romance in with pure Erotic Romance or Erotica. I think once people read the stories they see the love that grows between the men and that there isn’t any good reason to hide it. Love is beautiful no matter the gender.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

Writing is HARD!! And Good writing is even harder! LOL. There is so much to learn about the craft; it’s never ending.

What are you working on now?

I have a book releasing on January 28th and a Valentine’s novella coming out, of course, on Valentine’s Day. I am planning to add to a short story that was published in an anthology last year and make it a novella. And I am working on a full length book about a man who’s never come out of the closet who falls for the radio psychologist he called one night on a dare.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

I’m such a homebody! I love curling up on on my sofa with my glass of wine, some cheese and watch television.

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

The highest high was getting the email from Loose Id that they had accepted Rescued, my first published book, for publication.
My lowest low was reading very mean spirited reviews of my books. I don’t do that any more.

MM March Madness – MARCH 3 – Daryl Banner

03-03 - Daryl Banner

MM MARCH MADNESS!!

March 3

Twinsie Talk is proud to present the 3rd Annual MM March Madness – a month to focus on the M/M, F/F, M/M/F, M/F/M authors. We love these books and want to share it with the rest of the world. Each day we will post an interview. We will also include any reviews that we have done on these books as well as links to the books.

Our hope is that you will love this genre as much as we do! <3

Today is devoted to Daryl Banner

author bio

Daryl Banner is an author and composer who graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Theatre and Psychology.

He does not write in any single genre, as his stories tend to span several. He is most inspired by the smart and unlikely hero, but urges you (the reader) not to fall in love with them; they may deceive you with their innocence. He is thrilled by putting his characters in terrible situations where they must face choices and challenges that seem impossible to overcome.

Daryl Banner writes science fiction / urban fantasy, M/M romance, and post-apocalyptic fantasy. He cannot wait to hear what you think about his stories and welcomes (and responds to!) all feedback.

Interesting tidbits: Daryl is also an obsessive piano player, video game enthusiast, and occasional actor. He’s been remixing video game music for over fifteen years, and is a passionate Final Fantasy fan. You can feed your ears with many of his remixes (as well as his original music) on his YouTube page:
http://www.youtube.com/DarylBanner

He also composes original soundtracks that accompany some of his books. You can listen to and download them here:
http://darylbanner.bandcamp.com

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

When I need an escape from my own writing, or just need inspiration, I don’t really read others’ work. Instead, I escape by playing video games, composing music, and programming. I know, super nerdy, but video games transport me to a totally different world and fill me with joy. Composing is like speaking a different language I’m fluent in; I sit at my piano and just play for hours, or sit at my computer and synthesize music from scratch. Programming works the math part of my brain and excites me the way that fitting a puzzle together gives you a thrill. It’s also sorta mental exercise, which helps me think more clearly when I sit back down to write.

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

Most of my books are all series. The Brazen Boys were an easy series to write because they were all standalone, so each book could stand on its own sexy feet. My fantasy/sci-fi series – The Beautiful Dead, and OUTLIER – are both thrilling for me to write, because building a world where the reader can live in it and experience thrill and love and loss is a strength and joy of mine, and I like to take them on a memorable, impacting journey that makes it all worthwhile.

Where do you do most of your writing?

Honestly, my room. I have a lot of cool lamps that I light up at night, and I swallow myself up in my favorite video game soundtrack of the day and just go to town writing. I have a little workspace set up in my garage when I need a different location, as well as a laptop that I’ll curl up with on the couch.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

Like I said in a previous answer, my escape from writing is usually in playing video games, composing, or programming. But I will say the latest bunch of books I’ve read were a few Chuck Palahniuk books (I recommend Damned if you have a strong stomach, but not its sequel Doomed) as well as the Song of Ice and Fire series (i.e. the series that Game of Thrones is based on). Most of the only work I read lately is my own when I’m editing, or some fellow author friends of mine whose work I also format and edit.

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

The M/M genre is definitely growing, though I can’t say in which way. I’d like to say I contribute a very unique perspective to the genre, being a gay man myself — and a somewhat unconventional gay man, at that. My gay romances don’t tend to be sweet and love-centered (though some are), but rather more true to my own desires, centered around male-bonding, buddy-buddy intimacy, and what I like to tongue-in-cheek refer to as “bromances”. They may not be as sex-centered as others, but they are quite sexually charged in essence. I write in more of a 90% foreplay 10% actual sex, because seriously, I find that a zillion times more exciting than just tearing off clothes and getting to the point. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I feel it so necessary to provide my own voice to the M/M genre in hopes that others who are like me may realize they’re not as alone as they think.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

Despite your urge to write something that “pleases the masses”, you’ll always have a stronger personal (and reader) payoff when you write something you’re truly inspired by. Yes, maybe you won’t sell as many books, and maybe you’ll also invite people who don’t understand you or who want more sex or who will criticize your point of view, but you’ll know you did your story justice, and oddly (and yet unsurprisingly), that matters the most in the end as an artist. This is our craft, and it’s our duty to respect it and honor it the best we can, and to never stop learning.

What are you working on now?

At this moment, I’m working on a Beautiful Dead novella, which had a prologue released with the Beautiful Dead Box Set – which includes all 3 full length novels in the series ( http://www.amzn.com/B018TDAZJ0/?tag=darybann-20 ) Though it is not M/M in nature, fans of my M/M Brazen Boys series have responded very positively to it.

I’m also developing/planning the third book in my OUTLIER series, which features a M/M relationship among two of its POV characters. It’s a sci-fi / dystopian series set in the last city on Earth where everyone is born with a unique, special ability. It features M/M and M/F relationships; be forewarned, it does have violence and sexuality, and is an “epic-style” read (meaning it’s long and has many side-stories) and portions of the stories end in cliffhangers. These are not books you will easily forget.
Book 1 – http://www.amzn.com/B00M1XUK7W/?tag=darybann-20
Book 2 – http://www.amzn.com/B0172A5OHE/?tag=darybann-20

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

I’m so lame. If I’m not writing, I love to grab myself a tasty snack, watch some Saturday Night Live, drink something fruity (or even an iced root beer will do), and then play video games into the dead of night until my eyes go crossed. Wanna join me?

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

I’ve come to learn that no matter when I’m at my highest or lowest, I’m a natural born worrier. I’m constantly cautious and always have my eyes peeled like some survivalist in the woods of the author world. I don’t ever want to feel too accomplished, even when one of my books hits the top of a category or is received with tons of praise. I always strive to tell a better story, to figure out new ways to excite and surprise my readers, and to grow as a tinkerer of words. I owe it to my readers to never give up on them and to keep the stories fresh and new and shocking. Without them, I’d be nowhere.

Dorm Games

Ok soooo I bought this book because of a couple reasons…1. My blog is focusing on MM books this month. 2. OMG the cover 3. OMG the hawtness of the synopsis and lastly 4. the price…I mean come on 99C for a novella of yummy…yes please!!

I sat down and read this book in about an hour so if you are just needing a quick, hot read then this is it for you. Essentially Michael is in stalker love with Andrew in his Psych class. He even goes as far as to literally follow him around campus one day. The Gods were on his side and he and Andrew had to partner up for a project.

Andrew is Mr. In-Control. He is Mr. Top foooor sure. We, along with Michael, are not even sure of Andrews sexuality and then he makes up “games” for the two of them to play which essentially get them naked. YUMMMMY!!! Andrew is a very focused man and will leave Michael high and dry if he doesnt follow Andrews rules…again super hawt!!

This is a really short book but I enjoyed the relationship that the two men build. I really loved the ending. I dont want to add alot to the review becasue it is a novella but trust me…hawtness and yummy MM loving. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Jen's review

This was very enjoying light read for me. My Twinsie sis, Angie, suggested that I give it a read. Well it was a great recommendation. I usually don’t spend a lot of time reading novellas mainly because I’m pretty greedy and almost always want more…LOL. This was my first Daryl Banner book and I loved his writing. I thought the story flowed well and I loved the entire concept of the plot.

Essentially this book is about two college men using games to explore who they are. Michael is comfortable with himself as being gay but has never really experienced a relationship much less much sex. Andrew is the hot hot guy that Michael can’t seem to not stalk and want. A project in a class has these two guys working together and from there the game begins. Andrew likes to be in control and Michael is just the perfect man to help him learn that although he may need rules and discipline in order to feel in control of himself sometime you can be “played” playing your own games.

This story is very seductive and although it is short it most definitely will have you totally engaged in the first chapter. I loved the erotic teasing sex scenes that were sizzling hot. I also loved the dynamics between Michael and Andrew. They are both just looking for more and the journey to discovering it was a great ride. I hope we get to find out more about these two charismatic men. If you enjoy a short steamy read then go check this one out it is most definitely worth it.

On The Edge Review

angies review

I received a copy from the author for a review.

OHMYGERD!!! This book is sooo freaking funny and sooo hawt. Its like melt your panties hawt ladies!! But I laughed a few times in the begining because seriously we have all been Derek a time or two in our life.

So this book is about lonley birthday boy Derek. He is throwing a pity party for himself wth multiple bottles of wine. He sees Edge on the web site he frequents. He begins to type and laugh about all the stuff he would never really say to anyone EVER and then…click…he sends it!! Edge reads it , laughs and then BOOM COMES OVER!!

Now before Edge gets to Dereks house Derek (remember drunk) has…well…..uhm…..handcuffed himself and is suck!! LOL When Edge appears, he and Derek begin to flirt and the chemistry is INSANE!! OMG. Edge gets his name because he keeps his “clients” on the Edge of “fun times”.

The night is quick but the life changes that happen between the two men were awesome. I really would love to read more from Edge and Derek. I wanna know what happened AFTER their night of fun.

author bio

Michele Shriver is a National and International best-selling author of women’s fiction and contemporary romance. Her books feature flawed-but-likeable characters in real-life settings. She’s not afraid to break the rules, but never stops believing in happily ever after. Michele counts among her favorite things a good glass of wine, a hockey game, and a sweet and sexy book boyfriend, not necessarily in that order.

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

I collect frogs. Not real ones, but every other kind imaginable.

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

I like series, and I write a series of novellas featuring hockey players. They can be challenging, because you have to pay close attention to detail and keep track of events from one book to the next, but the real challenge for me seems to be to write a stand alone book. Even if I’m not writing in a series, I seem to keep creating spin-offs.

Where do you do most of your writing?

On my couch using my laptop, usually with some sporting event on the TV in the background.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

Right now, I seem to always be under deadline, so I don’t read as much as I’d like. I always love Kristin Hannah, though. I want to write like her when I grow up.

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

I hope it’s growing! I never set out to be a FF writer, but I’ve always been a proponent of equality, and my first novel (After Ten) featured four college friends who meet up again for a ten year reunion. One of the characters is a lesbian who kept her sexuality a secret from her friends in school. I loved telling her story, and that of her wife… and kept telling in two other novels. It’s that whole inability to write a standalone thing I mentioned.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

I’m constantly surprised by this business, especially how often and how fast it changes, especially when it comes to what forms of promotion/advertising are most effective.

What are you working on now?

I’m in edits on book 4 of my Men of the Ice series, releasing March 1, and also have an upcoming box set of country-music themed romances.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

I’m pretty boring. I’m probably just at home watching a hockey game or college football game while I try to get some writing in.

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

Ironically, both happened at the same time, the same event. Last fall, I was part of the Christmas Pets & Kisses boxed set with fifteen other authors, and we had an amazing release week, and I achieved my highest bestseller ranking on Amazon and highest author rank. We thought it meant big things for us… but when the USA Today bestseller list came out, we found out we didn’t make it (even though we know for a fact that we sold more copies that week than one of the sets that made the list- explain that one to me).

It was disappointing, but made me more motivated to keep working hard to achieve that goal.

author bio

A.D. Ellis spends the majority of her days loving and wrangling two school-aged children, a husband, and a Yorkie with a stubborn streak a mile wide before heading to the inner city of Indiana to teach a challenging group of alternative education students in grades third through sixth. Most days she hits the gym after school in hopes of running and lifting away the stress and headaches of the day before picking up her children and squeezing a whole day’s worth of loving and living into the too-short hours before bed. It’s no wonder Ms. Ellis lives for the slower, easier days she gets to enjoy on breaks from school.
Growing up in a small farming town in southern Indiana, A.D. is grateful to her mother for passing along the love of reading. With her nose constantly stuck in a book, Ms. Ellis became accustomed to friends and acquaintances snickering and shaking their heads at her love of reading.
A.D. never dreamed of being anything but a teacher, although there are certain times of the year when she laments her career choice. Ms. Ellis had a story idea floating in her head for about a year. After persistent prodding from a friend, A.D. put pen to paper and began writing her first story in October 2013. From that moment on, she was hooked. Taking the people and stories from her head and sharing them with readers is a scary, exhausting, rewarding, and fulfilling experience which A.D. plans to continue until there are no more stories banging around in her mind.
A.D. Ellis’ work can be found on both iBooks and Amazon. Please contact her on Facebook, Twitter, or her website.

Tell us about something about you (not included in your normal author bio) that maybe not everyone knows about you.

I’m terrified of deep, dark water (think ocean or lake where I can’t touch).  I’m addicted to M/M stories right now.
I am totally obsessed with tea and want to drink it all the time and try different types.
I was born on Easter Sunday, but my birthday has NEVER been on Easter again.

There’s been a trend in writing a series. How do you feel about series? Do you write them? Do you think they are easier or harder?

I have two series out, and one more I’m working on right now. But the series I write are not continuation stories, they are stories involving different characters. Each book COULD be read as a standalone.

I don’t like cliffhangers unless all the books are already available, so I don’t write cliffies. My series started getting harder to write because of all the people involved. I made a family tree for my readers but it was just as much for myself so I wouldn’t get people confused!

Where do you do most of your writing?

99% of my writing is done in my bedroom at my little office desk area.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions for your favorite books (beside your own, of course)?

Based on my obsession with M/M stories, it’s safe to say that I’m reading something sexy with two hot guys.

Do you feel that this genre is growing? And what do you contribute to that growth or decline?

I do feel the M/M genre is growing. I see more and more stories out there each day. I think it’s growing because it’s more and more accepted. Also because readers have realized how much they enjoy the M/M genre, so there’s more demand for stories in this genre.

What is the most surprising thing you have learned about writing?

How much fun it is. How emotional it is. And how much I avoid writing bad/rough/emotional scenes. When I know a rough scene is coming it’s normal for me to balk and avoid it for 1-2 weeks before I finally just suck it up and write it.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on a M/M 3-book series titled Something About Him. There will be three books (standalones). The series will start with Bryan & Jase: The Beginning (this is a short story). Then the books will continue with Bryan & Jase, Nick & Brody, and Barrett & Ivan.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?

If the kids are home, we are usually just hanging out while the kids play, grabbing a bite to eat, maybe getting groceries. Don’t be jealous, we live a wild life.
If the kids aren’t home (this doesn’t happen often, they are only 10 and 8), my husband and I will usually go out to eat and maybe watch a movie. If we have time we may stroll through the mall or Kohls. Again, try to rein in your jealousy. 🙂

Tell us about the highest HIGH and lowest LOW in your career so far. How has it changed you?

Highest? My book, Loving Josie, won a bronze medal in the romance category in the Readers’ Favorite 2015 International Book  Awards.
Lowest? I don’t know that I have lowest. I mean, bad reviews here and there stink. And not being able to find that perfect promo secret makes it hard, but I really don’t feel like I’ve had a LOW in my career. It’s all been a great learning experience and tons of fun to meet and interact with readers and other authors.

Sawyer Review

 angies review

I received this book from the author for an honest opinion.

I am a fan of MM…not gonna deny it, so when I see this sign up for the book I jumped. I also wanted to read something from this author because a lot of my friends read and enjoy her stuff.

This book is a spin off from another Torey Hope Series. I haven’t read any of it or the book before (Decker) that is Sawyers brother. I didn’t feel like I missed anything but I do I believe I might have gotten more enjoyment out of reading Decker’s book too. But again, you don’t need to read it to understand the story and plot.

This book is a wonderful look at the struggles that Gay and Lesbian teens/young adults face when dealing with telling everyone they are out. It lets you in on the hurt they feel when their loves ones banish them or say hurtful words when they finally do admit their true feelings.

Sawyer has known he was gay but only let his best friend Katie in on it when he was a teen. We see him come to terms with it and flashback to when he told his closest family and friends. We see him struggle with his identity in college. Now he is an adult and is looking…looking…looking. He can’t seem to find THE ONE.
When Sawyer and Luke meet all bets are off. Luke will not allow himself to feel what he feels and Sawyer will not let him ignore the feelings. The men have a lot to overcome between Sawyer’s family who doesn’t support him and Luke’s traumatic past. I liked the story but at times felt it was a little bit jumpy from scene to scene. I did like the resolution at the end and hearing about Luke’s life was sooo sad. I would love to go back and read Decker plus I really hope that Adam might get a book. He is sooo funny!
