Anaconda Nights

Some say ignorance is bliss, at least that’s what Tinley tries to tell herself when she sees the fresh meat on display at Anaconda. When she steps on the party bus, she has no idea it will be leading her to an exclusive resort with escorts that cater to a rich woman’s every need.

At first, she is afraid to give in, but when Adam enters the scene she can’t seem to get enough of him. His hard body, sweet silky voice, his eyes…if she could actually see them. All the men at Anaconda wear masks to protect their identities while keeping them mysteriously sexy at the same time.

All the same, she can’t help but wonder what would happen if she just tore the mask off. Would she be pleased with what she saw, or would the person beneath the mask lead her down a whole other rabbit hole altogether?

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

When Elissa asked if I would like to read her new steamy novel, I said sure thing.  Who can pass up steamy right???  I liked the premise of the story and the whole “mystery man” so I jumped in.

Our girl Tinley is a hot mess.  She is so worried that people don’t take her seriously because she is a woman, that she works herself to the bone.  When her sister is getting married and is having her bachelorette night, she forces Tinley to come.  She doesn’t tell her where they are going which is essentially a legal reverse brothel.  Instead of the ladies doing the servicing, it’s the men who are.  Needless to say, Tinley freaks.  When she meets her “escort” for the night she is a bit stunned at how good of a time they had and books another weekend with him.

Seeing Tinley realize she can be a woman, feminine annnnd formidable in the workplace was priceless.  Tinley reconnects with herself and soon embraces her sensual female side thanks to her time with Adam.  When the next weekend happens and we find out who Adam is really…..welllll, I think we all saw it coming .

Seeing Tinley deal with her feelings and emotions while making major life changes after her weekend was awesome.  We also see Tinley making Adam work for a chance at a future with her.  The couple have some serious issues because she is worried she can’t satisfy man who has been “hooking” up with multiple ladies or so she thinks.

I enjoyed the story and liked the ending scene.  It was really sweet but super funny as well.

Ever since childhood, I have enjoyed reading stories as an escape from life. When I was a teenager I started to write my own stories that kept me entertained whenever I ran out of books to read. When I was accepted into Illinois Summer School for the Arts in my Junior year of High School, I knew I wanted to become a writer. I graduated from Illinois State University in December 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and began my teaching career, hoping to find moments to write in my free time.

After seven years of teaching, I decided to focus on my writing and made the decision to put my teaching years behind me so that I could create the stories I had always dreamed of. I am now happily married and a stay at home mom. I try my best to master the art of multitasking to get everything accomplished and write in any spare moment I can find.

#WOTR21 #6YearFamily #AuthorSpotlight – Elissa Daye

Elissa Daye

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hey all! I’m Elissa Daye. I wear several author hats at the moment as my alter ego Melissa Davis and new pen coming soon Missy Davis who will write sweet contemporary romance, not Daye’s brand at all. I believe we all have stories to tell inside us and sometimes we don’t get to pick what they are, which is why I write EVERYTHING instead of sticking with one thing. It can get confusing after awhile, especially when you switch back and forth from one voice to another, but it sure keeps me hopping.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I would say the first book in the series is usually the hardest. It’s also the one you continually want to go back and change or add more to. There are things you don’t think about until the second or third book in, but if we constantly look back we’ll never move forward. Setting up the world in the first book, especially if you write paranormal, that can be exhausting. And when you add more to your world, you have to keep a running record of your rules governing your world, and all of the things that came before. It’s fun though. I like to keep a folder per book and keep all the important info from that book in one spot.

What comes first? The plot or characters

I would say a plot idea comes first, but then I find my characters who often have ideas of their own as we get into the storyline. I tend to follow them wherever they lead me.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Anne Rice. Not just because she is an amazing author, but I feel she fights for any author, even those of us who are less traditionally published. I would want to spend whatever time I can just soaking in her brilliance.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

What inspires you? How often does your muse keep you up at night? How hard was it to be a trend setter and write erotica when it was so taboo? Nowadays it’s everywhere.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Blurb writing. I still don’t have it down. It’s an art form that escapes me sometimes. That back matter, it’s everything. It helps draw readers in and it’s so hard to do that in just a few paragraphs when your entire book has so much more in it. You also don’t want to give your entire plot away in the blurb either.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

It’s actually a recurring one. It happens every year I get to meet with fans at a book signing. I love talking to people about my books. I love hearing what they love to read and seeing the joy they have for all the books. There’s nothing like watching people drag carts of books around the room, each one lovingly picked out and stored in a special place in their homes. Their love for us, it’s amazing and it keeps us motivated to not let them down.

What is your definition of success?

Most people might thing making a best seller list is a measure of success. For me I’ve learned that lists are like unicorns. I feel the most impact I have is when I have made someone feel something about my story. I have had a few people toss at least one of my books across the room. I’ve had some in tears, and also have been told what pages some of them mark to come back to later. *wink wink* You know who you are!

#WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlights – Elissa Daye

Elissa Daye

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Elissa Daye. I live in Normal, but have always considered myself abnormal. I don’t fit inside any particular box, which is why I cross genres so frequently.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

You can find me writing anywhere in my house with a table, legs covered in a blanket and feet warm and toasty in fluffy socks. What kind of food? More like caffeine. Nasty habit that I’m trying to break, but it keeps the muse awake.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting all the fans. I love when people come up to talk to me. The best days are the ones I don’t even have time to sit down. Then again, the after party with the readers is also fun!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Oooh, that’s tough. I think it’s a tie between Anne Rice and J.K. Rowling.

What author would you love to write with?

My cousin, Jordan Deen. Although we have written a book together, I miss writing with her as our lives have been traveling a warp speed in different directions.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Hearing how one of my books made someone throw it across the room. The ability to make someone have such a reaction to something I’ve written is an amazing feat. Being forgiven after the fact, was good too.

To top that off, it was time for the annual alumni mixer which Keira has made it a point to skip each year, but her boss, Paranormal Romance author, Claudia Woods decides she would like Keira to attend with a hearty donation on her behalf. While Keira has a good working relationship with her boss, denying her requests isn’t something she is in the habit of doing.

So Keira travels to her alma mater, with the ghosts of her past to keep her company as she relives the life she thought she had left behind. Keira never imagined that Daniel might be there. The very sight of his face brings up memories that she had thought were long buried.

Would her school girl crush turn into more than a fantasy?

Book 2-

She found his dark brown eyes and took in his wicked smile. “You must be the Big Bad Wolf.”

“At your service, Little Red.”

Twenty-eight year old actress Rowan Montgomery has the role of a lifetime: the public image of World-Renowned Paranormal Author, Publisher, and closet Vampire–Claudia Woods. Since Claudia can’t venture out during the daylight hours, Rowan’s spunk, good looks and knowledge of the vampire’s books makes her the perfect candidate to promote Claudia’s work to the world while keeping her undead status a secret.

Rowan’s imagination could never have conjured her current reality; Vampires, werewolves, gargoyles, eccentric butlers named Igor, and other fantastic creatures are around every corner. Like living in some kind of strange mystical dream, Rowan finds the new world she’s thrust into to be one of the most thrilling adventures possible. Every inch of his body is covered in sex appeal, and he knows it. Unbeknownst to Rowan, he is hiding a family secret that should send her running for the hills. Instead, she finds herself pulled in deeper.

Everything about Ethan makes her lose her mind. Rowan wants nothing more than to hold him at arm’s length, but his mere presence makes all sensible thoughts flee. If she lets him get too close, he could discover the secrets she must keep hidden from the world, especially if she wants to keep her job and all the perks that come along with it.

After a short time in the spotlight, strange things begin to happen to Rowan, starting with the appearance of wolves, that seem to be nothing more than a coincidence. Before long, threats come rolling in for the stand-in Author, and it becomes clear that not all is fair in love and war when it comes to the Book Industry. Rowan is caught in the crossfire with traitors, spies and snarling fangs around every corner.

How long will Rowan survive in Claudia’s world before she loses herself completely?

Book 3-

When would Claudia learn that some mistakes weren’t worth repeating? The very instant Ren walked back into her life he had already threatened to ruin the life she had created for herself. The paranormal author and owner of Legacy Press had everything to lose when it came to the handsome vampire who had changed her existence so long ago. Ren had always been able to wrap her around any one of his delectable fingers with the playboy swagger that had drawn every woman to him. Could she withstand his manipulating games this time without losing herself in the process?

#WOTR18 #AuthorSpotlight – Attending Author Elissa Daye @daenira

Elissa Daye

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Elissa Daye

When and Why did you start to write?

I started writing odds and ends when I was a child. I loved reading so much that I wanted to recreate the magic for myself. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I really attempted to finish a complete novel.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

I love J.K. Rowling. She’s an inspiration to me even though we write completely separate genres. Anne Rice and Christina Dodd are two more of my favorites.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

It’s cathartic. Seriously, who needs therapy when you can work out some of your issues through your characters. Maybe that’s why I get so lost in their stories.

What are you working on now?

Almost Home a contemporary romance with a leading lady dealing with a traumatic past. It will be an emotional rollercoaster for sure.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I do a little of each actually. Sometimes, I just want to fly by the seat of my pants and let the muse take over. Other times, I need to find ways to strengthen my plot. I do more plotting for my fantasy titles than my contemporary romances.

***COME CHECK OUT ELISSA! SHE’S COMING BACK!!!***

My time here on this world was embittered from the start. As a carrier, I had very little choice in the matter. The demon inside had been planted long before I even had a voice. From the very minute my first breath entered my body, she was coiled inside like a venomous snake. The Brotherhood wanted to control me, to keep their demon Gladius inside a host that they could groom from birth, but as soon as my mother caught on, she ripped me away from their evil clutches and kept me hidden from their reach. Under her tutelage, I had learned how to keep the monster at bay.

In the darkest night, my life had spiraled to a meaningless end as my time as a mortal subsided, for I had fallen under a spell woven by the vampire Demetrius. After draining me to the brink, he tossed me aside and left me to die with the first morning light. My propensity for survival he had not calculated.

Now, I was left with a single purpose, destroy the man who had obliterated the calm control I had kept over my life, over the monster that slithered beneath.

Goodreads

This has it all! Demons, monsters, evil incarnate, vampires, cults, witches….I could go on and on. Grace is not your normal everyday girl. She was born into a world where things go bump in the night. She was born to bear a demon in her body and soul. The only thing is she was raised to be able to keep the demon at bay. She works and tries to stay off the radar to keep away from The Brotherhood. Their only mission is to bring Gladius, the demon inside of Grace, to the surface. She is enamoured by Demetrius and lets her guard down. He turns her to a vampire and leaves her to die. She is found by the Night Order who want to enlist her help to keep demons and vampires at bay. She is brought into a new world and is no longer on her own. She is with other vampires and mortals who want to help her rid the demon inside. Of course there is a love story here. She has been on her own for so long that receiving help from anyone and having any luck in gaining her trust has been incredibly difficult. She has things she must do to keep her sanity an one is going after the man that did this to her and to rid the demon.

Pity was for the weak, and that was something I never considered myself. I had been a fighter most of my life. From the time I was a child, I had learned that the world would never make it easy for me. I had to push against the machine if I wanted to survive, and I had pushed so hard that I carried battle scars, some visible, but many more that were not.

From the moment I was born, life was a series of missteps in directions that twisted and curled into roads where the streetlamps never seemed to work. Darkness had followed me like a harbinger, circiling around until I had no other recourse but to embrace the path that was paved in front of me.

The story has great characters with so many different personalities. I absolutely love paranormal and this has a great twist on something that can seem so overdone. Grace’s struggle is real and you feel it to the core. It is a fast paced read with lots of action and some hot scenes. A must read!
